Title: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*
Post by: MamaTo4boys on October 05, 2007, 03:08:34 PM
:yess: Im so excited. Can we talk about tonights episode (and following episodes in this thread).

RudyRules I apologize for telling you that Tami already had the baby. When we found out that FNL was coming back the thing I read said the season starts off with the baby born. I thought that meant the baby was here. It said it like it was (I can't remember exactly). But the thing I read tonight says that Tami goes into labor. LOL!

Oh my, lots to say.

First off, I just KNEW they were gonna have another girl, Grace. And  also Julie surprised me, I guess she really misses her dad.

Second, that new coach is sooooo already making me mad

And last I just can't believe Tyra and Landry - OMG!! That was just creepy to me.

Hi Mama, Sorry it took me so long to get here!
Not to worry about the baby stuff.  The article you read was kind of vague and I can see why you thought the baby was born before the show started! lol!
Hey thanks for starting this FNL spoiler thread.  It didn't even cross my mind since it seems you n' me are the only fans here.  Maybe more will become interested?  Hope so!

I guess the real shocker to me was the ending,,,and how that may affect FNL's future.  It just seemed not the right way to start off the season!!  Surely, they could've thought of something else.  ???  It was, as you said, creepy.  Dillon had been portrayed a clean small town...with typical probs amongst its population & therefore great drama for the viewers.  Yet I know creepy things do happen in small towns sometimes.  I wonder how all that will play out.  Guess just my wondering will keep me interested, huh?!

I was disappointed that Julie wasn't more accepting of her new li'l baby sis.  Yeah, I know she misses her dad...yet when he's there, she's such a jerk.  Well, they finally did have a good talk in the car when he picked her up at the night club, so I'll give her credit for at least having one decent conversaton with him.

I thought she'd be holding the baby & showing more acceptance for Li'l Grace.

The new coach may be one that "grows on you"?  I'm not terribly impressed, but he may turn out to be a dang good coach and guy?  We'll see.  He does have that tough coach look.  Just hope he has a positive attitude and leads the team that way.

Can't think of any more at the moment.  I'm just wondering how Tammy is gonna do with the two daughters so far apart in age and a hubby she'll rarely see!!

Later~~

I have a feeling that the coach may get fired and Jason takes over. I wasn't even mad for what he was on the field, thats a tough coach and I get that. But I do feel that what he said to Jason (gosh I act like this is real life lol) was just something I wanted to punch him for lol. Haha! The only thing I can think of with the Landry/Tyra thing is maybe they didn't kill him, but just threw him in the woods or something, and he was just unconscious. Or maybe this is something they will leave town together for. What do you think?

I was weirded out with all the drama, this is a drama show but maybe too much in the first episode. I mean the whole murder thing, the Garrity/his exs new boyfriend thing. And I dunno if I thought that Lyla would be back with Tim and maybe Tim would change but guess that won't be happening. I really like Riggins, and hate that hes gotta be the "alcoholic" :(

I do feel bad for Tammy. And I think Julie is jealous and just doing her teenage I wanna do my own thing. And I really hope that her and Matt do not break up.

I must git off here, but will just say I REALLY hope Julie & Matt stay together.  They seem so compatible and they're such a cute couple.  You're right, Julie is doing her teen thing...going thru a normal phase, but it still gets me how she acted more like a 6 or 7 yr old sister in regard to the new baby!!  Geeezz.  Oh well...
I'm outa here for now & hit the sack.  :nitenite:
Take care, gal.

Im not a huge fan of Tyra but would hate to see her leave town, although thats possible. I think Tyra has too many roles for them to let her leave though! Could you imagine her and Landry getting together? LOL!
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

Tyra isn't one of my favs, but her character is normal for a small town!  Loose living sort...but think she started improving herself when Tammy befriended her.  Tammy helped her realize there really are people who care...no matter what.

Nope, I do not see Tyra & Landry getting together...no way.  Landry is a naive lovesick puppy dog, setting himself up only to be hurt.  Hope he wakes up soon!

But now they share this murder, so I dunno. Although I think it will hang over their heads for the rest of their life if they stay together or not  I do think that her mom needed to be there for her. I think thats why her and Riggins were together in the first place, he didn't have parents and really neither did she.

Have you seen a preview for FNL for tomorrow? The only thing I watch on NBC is Sunday night football and that so I haven't lol.

Nope, haven't seen any FNL commercials.  I rarely have NBC on except for the nightly news & weather...but will try to remember to tune in for commercials.

I hope that's what happened...the guy is not really dead & recovers.  But in either case, Tyra/Landry must face the consequences eventually.  If the guy isn't dead, they will be facing HIM again...or his family?  And a law suit transpires?  It's hard to say where this event will take them, but that's why we love drama, huh?!  I just hope it's not as bad as last week's show made it look!!

I actually don't know about loving drama - I watch CSI Miami and thats about as much as I can take. I love scary movies but when things are made to look so real and my husband works night I just can't. That also has alot to do with us having like noooooooo neighbors and I get scared being at home with three kids kwim. I can't watch the news either and just started tuning in for the weather. LOL!!!

I just don't understand why they would have her get almost taken by him last season, then the season ends if he wasn't going to be INVOLVED this season kwim? One episode, I just don't think so!!! Maybe someone finds him, and he recovers and leaves them both alone? Or maybe he tries something with Landry and leaves Tyra alone. Hmm!

Also wasn't Tyra suppose to graduate last season? I know Matt was a jr, and I thought Julie was a soph but I reckon she might've been a jr. And I thought Riggins was suppose to graduate and Smash as well.

kwim?  And that would mean?  ???   I know a lot of acronyms, but not that one!
I'll get back with comments later cuz I'm falling asleep.  :zz:

Last night was crazy! First off that school science teacher was getting on my nerves. And is it just me or is it made to look like maybe people will start thinking they are together? I about cried when Jason told Tami what he told her! Awww!!!

And next weeks episode. Did you see the preview? Does Tami slap Julie? And hopefully its in the plan that Eric comes back to Dillion.

Wow. I was hoping that they wouldn't find the body and next weeks episode shows they do. They know its Landry because his dad finds the watch. AH! Im so nervous. And did you see if that was Tim or Street that gets arrested next week? I know they said "learning to walk again is hard if your in jail" but I think that was Riggins. Guesing both of them? I looooooove him and do not wanna see anything bad happen to him (jail). Im beginning to dislike this show for this reason. Jail/Murder/that dang kid that Julie is with. Im starting to get creeped out honesty. And Smash and Matt. Yikes! I was waiting for Matt to do something dramactic like quit the team.

Hey Mama, sorry it took me forever to get here.  I need to watch my tape to jog my memory on stuff, but will just say...it seems the writers are trying to cram too much, too fast stuff into the show to make it more exciting ?? than Season 1.  And they're doing this to hopefully not get cancelled.  I'll keep watching and see it thru before making judgement, but so far it's not as good as Seas 1.

It just seems a little too nervewracking this season! :groan:

I'm off to bed now...zzzzzzzzz

Hope you and your family are doing great!

Im glad with what happened with the Landry/Tyra thing. I was getting so nervous! But I don't understand what Landrys dad is thinking, unless he KNOWS what happened?

And wow, so much with Julie going on but hopefully things for her have changed. And im also glad Lyla is getting 'postive' attention this season..... I guess its postive.

I've gotta say I hope Jason is able to walk again :(

:ythat: I'm glad Julie finally saw first hand what a jerk that guy is.  Hopefully, she'll go back to Matt and appreciate him!

The coach stuff was (is) really sticky and who knows where that will go if the fired coach pursues a law suit.  It's so good to see Eric baaak with his family!!  Maybe things will get back to normal now.

NBC made sure to use political overtones with Jason & Tim's time in Mexico, but I won't go into my personal opinions about that.  Just hope Jason can walk again and the treatment he receives helps.

I think Landry's dad knows what happened and why Tyra and Landry are spending so much time together.  Incidentally, I loved how Tyra responded to the dad (last week) when she told him why she likes Landry!

Overall, I liked tonight's show!  It appears things just might be getting back to normal!  (for now!)

Am I the only one that missed what the coach said to Taylor, I had NO clue he was making a mafia threat until last night I read it on TV Guide :lol3: About "I have a family to". Who knows.

Really Mama?  Wow.  That sure as heck never occurred to me.  I thought he meant simply, that he has a family too...a wife and kids to support.  IOW, the ex Dillon coach needed the job just as bad as Coach Taylor...to support his family.
Hmmmm...interesting if he meant T H E  F A M I L Y as in The Godfather family!  :o
Scary........

Yeah, thats kinda scary if that is what he meant. Im glad I am not the only one who didn't catch it

Spoiler - I read that not in this coming episode but the week after that (November 9th) that Landry confesses to his dad that he killed that guy. Im getting NERVOUS!!!
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

I kinda figured Landry would 'fess up eventually, just wasnt sure if voluntarily or forced.  Was hoping it would be privately to his dad, voluntarily.
I still think his dad has it figured out from the missing watch and Trya being questioned about the rapist.  Now he's waiting for his son to take the step to confess, rather than being coerced.  And he hasn't told anyone in the police dept of his suspicions, or at least not that the viewers know of.

Im really nervous!!!  :lol3: I just don't want Landry in trouble. I guess im just like that! I hope it works out with Riggins/Jason to. We shall see tonight.

Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*
Post by: RudyRules on November 03, 2007, 02:27:46 AM
Landry's already in trouble, it's jsut he's now in more trouble b/c his dad is putting 2 n' 2 together.  If only Landry & Trya had reported the murder right after it happened, they would've both been better off...but then we wouldn't have much of a story!

I'm sure glad Matt set Julie straight about her wanting to see him again.  Good for him.  She's a spoiled brat who thinks everyone should cater to her wishes and when things go wrong, everyone should act as if she hasn't done anything wrong?  PUhleezz.

I'm glad Jason is OK and he isn't gonna get that experimental surgery!  Geez, gave me cold chills that he even considered it, but he's so desperate to walk again.  He needs to resign himself to the fact he probably never will & try to adjust to the idea.

I really enjoyed the show and all the great acting!  Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are sooo great...alone and together and deserve to be nommed for Emmys!  :yess:

First off, I still love Riggins. I really hope he gets his life together. And Jason actually brought tears to my eyes (dang pregnancy lol).

And wow, Buddy has always gotten on my nerves but even more now :lol3:

And im confused iwth the Landry thing. His dad is a cop, isn't it going to be kinda obvious WHY they gassed that car? I mean duh! I felt so bad for him. I honestly was shaking as they were driving, I thought Landry was going to lose it and wreck that car and something bad was going to happen!
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*
Post by: RudyRules on November 10, 2007, 03:55:18 AM
I'm confused on the Landry stuff too, Mama.  I think that was really DUMB for his cop dad to blow up the car.  Duhhh is right!  I thought his dad would, of all people, advise his son to confess to the murder and help Landry get thru it, even if it meant some jail time.  Landry has already show remorse for what happened, it was not premeditated, and it seems to me he would've been better off just confessing the whole mess.  Whateverrrrr.  Now his dad is implicated, so he's an assessory.  What a fiasco!!   :groan:

So how're things going?  What does your hubby think of the Broncos this season?  Does he think there's hope for them to improve enough to get in the playoffs??  I haven't been watching much football...so not sure what their problem is.

Thats what im afraid of, but my bil watched it and he said that they will just say the car was stolen that night? Which seems odd to me, then again the cops did say it was ANY GM and not just the wagons (at least I thought - although he told Landry it was just wagons, maybe to get him to confess). Uh!

Im wondering why there wasn't a football game, I thought there was at the end of every show :lol3:

Things are ok, my in laws are getting ready to move here so things are crazy. I don't know what is wrong with the Broncos, my team has two losses and one was from the Broncos (Steelers) but it seems like other then today all the games they won came from their kicker!!! I guess alot of it has to do with their center being out for the year, Javon just got knee surgery and I think the death of two teammates may have affected them. My hubby says were gonna be like Travis Henry - he has 9 kids  As for them bouncing back, I think they will. The race is on for the AFC West (Chargers had problems from the start, Raiders are 2-6 or something, and the Broncos beat the Chiefs today so im not real sure where they are in the standings). Its just going to be a divisional race, pretty much whoever beats the most in their rivals is going to win the playoff spot!

Maybe no football game at the end of the show b/c they showed the practices a couple times.  That new kid on the block with Riggins coaching him took up some time.  Isnt the new guy the ex-prisoner Lila asked Riggins to coach?

Yep the new guy is the one that Lyla is trying to help!!! He also got the job working for her dad. Thats how Buddy realize he would play good football, because when he was wrestling the pigs it reminded him of a tight end :lol3:

Hope you're doing real good, Mama!

Gotta go and then hurry back here for FNL!  I would tape it, but I'm taping Ghost Whisperer at 7pm.  I have a separate video reserved for FNL!

Ah the episode in two weeks (I assume because of Thanksgiving that is why there will not be a new one next Friday) already has me wanting to cry! I love Landry, and while I agree that he should've fessed up and still should I just hate that this even happened on FNL. UH! Why couldn't it have been Tyra, and then she would've gotten away with it because he tried to rape her again. Now im mad and upset. I just feel like they could've done something else this season. I was actually *happy* that we didn't really see a bunch of drama because of the murder this episode. All I remember was what he told Tyra. And really someone needs to punch her. I feel so bad for Landry just for what SHE has done to him, playing him and stuff.

Oh and isn't it bull that pretty much last weeks episode they basically re opened the case cause they made the comment that Tyras sister is a stripper (meaning shes a "word I won't use") and probably didn't get raped or attempted raped or whatever. UH!  :pull

Episode Recap: Pantherama!

Move over you man-slut, Matt Saracen. You've been replaced in my heart by Santiago. How sad, how ridiculously heart-breakingly sad was that look on his face in the very last shot? It just hurt to watch. I'm still shocked at the never-ending evolution of Buddy Garrity this season, and taking in Santiago for reasons beyond helping out the Panthers — in fact, because as trite as it sounds, he needs a son as much as Santiago needs a father — was so sweet and unselfish, that it would have shocked me a year ago. But this season's a whole 'nother thing, and Buddy's redemption has made even the most cynical of northeasterners (me) just want to start blubbering like I’m watching Lifetime or something. Sure, he has a ways to go, as evidenced by Tami's, "You've got a lot of steak and you've got a lot of sausage; get some vegetables in here," but it's a wonderful start, and for Santiago's sake, more than Buddy's, I really hope it works out.

And then there's Matt, who, as I've already pointed out, seems to be taking his time making up his mind about who he wants to date. Should he date his girlfriend, or his nurse? Or should he date his girlfriend and just kiss his nurse? Well, I'm still no fan of the cheerleader (too perky and obnoxious for my tastes, even if she does know her cars), but imagine if things go south with a girl living in your house. It can only end badly for our good friend, QB1. Make me eat my words, please, Matt.

Meanwhile, Matt's decidedly ex-girlfriend Julie is over-the-moon for her newspaper advisor, Mr. Noah Barnett (Austin Nichols), graduate of Columbia Journalism and former employee of the Milwaukee Journal. Barnett is a rather ambiguous character, isn't he? Tami obviously thinks something fishy is up in his relationship with her daughter, but I'm not so sure. I'm hoping that LanTyra is going to be the only, "Ripped from the headlines," type drama this season, and that we'll be spared the teacher/student thing. I don't think it's heading that direction, because I think that this is just about Julie needing to have a crush on someone. It's just creepy that it's her teacher that she has a crush on. Barnett seems smart enough not to make a decision that could ruin his career the same way that dating the daughter of two of his colleagues would.

I think maybe everyone in Dillon needs to just sit down with Smash's mom for 5 minutes in order to be told right from wrong. Smash may disagree, but she only has his best interests at heart in wanting more than just a football career for him. He may think, "College isn't a goal, it's a means to an end," but she knows what any former teammate of Jason Street should realize, namely that an athletic career is somewhat less than a secure future. Even if he does make it on to a top college team, there's no guarantee he'll go pro. And the sad thing is that it's not just about ego with him, because he obviously wants to give back to his mother and sister. But what do I know? He's very talented and maybe there's a very great possibility that he could, in fact, go pro. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this situation — especially anyone with a high school or college football background.

Worth mentioning are Tim's self-imposed homelessness, and Tyra and Lyla's choreography. In Tim's case, I won't have much to say until I see how living with the man with the ferret works out, and the Tyra and Lyla thing was a cute diversion. Nothing more, nothing less.

No new episode next week, and I'll be on vacation anyway, so let me take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. See you all in two weeks for what will hopefully be the beginning of the end for the whole murder debacle.

Aww I know whatcha mean.  Just watching Landry in the preview got me all choked up...but he's got to confess.  He's such a good honest kid, and cannot live with himself unless he goes in there and tells them exactly what happened.  Hopefully, he'll get a light sentence in view of all the circumstances.  How hard this must be for his dad...and then when his mom finds out....omg have mercy.  :'(

Oh I know he has to confess. I just wish this never happened. I know its "just a show" and all but it sucks. And then for that many episodes to be focused on it. I really wish the guy would've just been knocked out or something. I can't stand Tyra!

Can it pleaassssssssse be like "it was in self defense, thanks for coming forward..... case CLOSED"? If Landry goes to jail and this becomes a huge show about a trial I think I may not watch it anymore :(
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*
Post by: RudyRules on December 03, 2007, 03:19:38 AM
Good if it turns out a self defense issue, but I doubt it would ever become a small or huge trial centered show.  After all, Landry is not the main character in FNL, nor his situation.  They would probably just leave us with what happens w/out showing it all.  Then on with the main focus centered around the Taylors and the football team...at the same time adding new plots.

btw, I still have not watched the last ep.  Need to do it before Friday!

Yeah I doubt it would be a big trial but at the same time I didn't think this was going to be a huge part of the show as it is!

I saw in TV guide where its THIS episode where Landry comes clean, its not the rerun where he told his dad cause it says its new!!!! But it also says "even though he comes clean it still plagues his conscience <--- I can't spell haha..... anyways I am wondering if they 'let him off' because it was all in self defense and also his dad IS a cop ;)

I dunno if I can watch this anymore. This whole murder thing has ruined the show. Could they have THOUGHT of something else  I honestly enjoyed him 'becoming' a football player - why the murder and not just that :(

This is why I stay away from drama shows, but this was football and thats why I started watching it. Oh well.   :groan:

Murders are not a respector of persons, Mama.  They happen even in SMALL towns that seem like nothing that bad could ever happen!  I don't think it ruined the show.  It added something...the fact that small towns folks can be victims of horrible events.  It is reality.  Life goes on and I'm very interested in seeing how this event plays out.  Do "they 'let him off' because it was all in self defense and also his dad IS a cop"?  Well, I don't think b/c his dad is a cop has any bearing on being let off.  His dad was helping his son by detroying evidence, so HE will no doubt have to face up to that...get suspended for ahwile or something.  Whatever, maybe the Landry drama wasn't necessary to keep people interested in the show?  Either way, I will keep watching b/c the focus is still on the Taylors and the rest of the cast, not just on Landry.  I'm interested in the entire cast and how life goes on with all of them.
If I lived in Dillon, I wouldn't move away b/c of one horrible incident unless it was a threat to my life!

I know that it happens even in small towns (I myself live in one and always want to) but my thing is, this is a show about football, the Taylors are the main characters and here this murder has been drug out in this show. The whole stalking thing, I could've seen. Why couldn't Trya be the one that killed the guy. Do you see what im saying. Shes acting like a total you know what (being herself of course) and Landry just becoming a football "star" is having to go through this because of her lame butt. Im also mad that the case was closed then its reopened and blah blah blah! Make up your freaking mind people. Its also irritating that they mentioned that Tyras sister is a stripper. Ummm who cares? That doesn't give someone the right to try and rape her. This is what is making me mad.

I was so excited for this season, the baby and everything. I just KNEW Taylor would come back and coach for Dillion and everything seemed to be really fun but this murder is just irritating to me. Landry always has been the "good kid" and I could see a bigger plot of him going and doing bigger and better things, not being sat in some jail cell. But hey whatever!! Thats just how I feel. This show seems so dark and boring anymore. Again just my opinion. I swear they've only had 2 football games this season :lol3:

Im just saying that it didn't have to be drug out. Remember last year, there was ONE episode of a Panther getting arrested. Why not that? Why not take Landry out of the show instead of focusing on him.

So glad I got to watch it. Landrys dad always has the kindest, most loving things to say. For him to offer with Tyras lawyer to. Even as selfish as that girl really is. I really hope Riggins gets his life together. And im glad Julie finally came to with her little sister!!!

No new shows til the new year. Not cause of the writers strike, if I recall they did the rerun thing through Christmas last year as well!!!

Yeah, I really enjoyed the show tonite...esp for Landry & Trya even though Landry may not ever get over it completely.  Was happy to see Jason find a nice gal.  Wish Riggins would quit the dang drinking & get his life together.  Enjoyed the Taylor baby christening and hope Julie will fully come to grips with the family adjustments.  Julie has been on the pity potty too long!  And Matt...oh please don't tell me he's gonna keep messing with that "housekeeper-nurse" or whatever she is.  What happened to the girl at school...or why can't he & Julie get back together?  Guess he must prove he's a man?  Whatever...I don't like where Matt is right now!!  Glad Santiago got "into" the football game.  He is kinda scary...with his low self esteem and lack of confidence...but Garrity (& Coach) are doing a good job trying to help him.
Overall, great show tonite.  (must still watch last week's show!)

I thought when the cops showed up at Landrys house they were coming to get him. I don't know what happened to the girl at school for Matt, I think he just started fooling around with the nurse and forgot about her. I really do not understand it, but I think it seems like alot of it is her. That just doesn't *seem* like the Matt we know ;)

No spoilers, but something better!  :jumpy:

Thurs night at the Family TV Awards, Kyle Chandler was awarded Outstanding Actor in the Drama category!  Too bad he wasn't there to accept the honors in person.
They said, "...from FNL's first episode, his acting earned the praise of critics across the country, and is a major reason that Friday Night Lights has a place in almost everyone's Top Ten List."

Chandler deserves an Emmy, IMO!!  Hope he's nommed for it next year!

From TV Guide

Is it getting crowded in here? Taylor (Kyle Chandler) is feeling the squeeze both at school and at home, as a tornado damages a rival school and forces its players to share Dillon's facilities. The presence of Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) in the Taylor household means a big adjustment period for the family. Speaking of adjusting, Lyla (Minka Kelly) is having trouble dealing with her mom's impending marriage in the new episode "There Goes the Neighborhood".

Right awwwn Mama!  :wohoo:
It's hard to believe the show will air this soon.  I thought it would be mid to late January.  And I think there were only 5 eps already written B4 the Writers' Strike.  Maybe they'll show reruns after that?  Whatever, I'm looking forward to the new shows! :)
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

I dunno, I know when the show started in October they had 6 episodes to "try" and see how it did for another season. And I would think that as those were airing and they were getting good reviews on season 2 they kept writing. Thats why I think this show should be ok with the writers strike. LOL!!! Though, it doesn't seem that NBC was one that was hurt too bad or is that just me?

Anyways, they took the same break last year, I believe. I can't wait!  :yess:

Didn't the writer's strike start during the fall season...Oct or Nov?  I think most shows have the writing done long before the season actually begins.  So I think FNL should be OK and probably have enough eps to cover Season 2.  Hope so!  I'm anxious for it to start...

I was thinking it was early November. I do think that FNL should be ok. It seems that CBS has more problems then any of the stations I think. ABC wasn't goign to bring back According to Jim but they did, which im glad but I am wondering if thats cause they had episodes already done or something! Who knows.

Im excited for the next episodes to. Is it Friday yet? LOL!

That was a good episode but I just wish for once, just ONCE Riggins would be the good guy for once :( Im really mad about that. I think Julie and him were really cute together, and how he protected her from the tornado, how he went to get the baby formula, and how he made sure that guy did not do anything to her that night. I realize the whole letting her drink wasn't good but she is her own person. For what Riggins is missing in his life (parents, now his brother) I do think he is a great guy! I know I for one wouldn't wanna be his little sister cause he seems like a very protective person (not that its a bad thing hehe).

And whats with next weeks episode. Does he kick Riggins off the team? I couldn't hear that part...... I thought thats what it was but then it looked like that was Riggins that the other coach hit out on the field  :duno: If you noticed, lemme know. Gonna be a long week til next Friday!

Poor guy :( And I felt really bad with the whole fight thing, but one thing the Panthers won't allow is another one of them to go down fighting by themselves - even if they were picking on Landry!

Upcoming episodes!

January 11:
Jumping the Gun
Colleges pressure Brian for a verbal commitment; tension is high between Coach Taylor and Tim Riggins with regard to Julie; Tami and her sister continue to see things differently

January 19:
Who Do You Think You Are
The Taylors consider day care for Gracie; Lyla takes a job at a Christian radio station; Matt has a realization about his feelings for Carlotta; Smash's love life is scrutinized by those close to him.

Yeah, good ep!  Riggins is a good guy in his heart, but he just isn't channeling it in the right direction.  He's has the drinking prob, & he doesn't have any close family or friends.  He's been on his own, so to speak, as a kid.  It's sad, really.  He's a cool guy...just needs an adult figure who can really be his friend and mentor.  It really pi$$ed me off that Coach jumped to conclusions when Riggins was HELPING Julie, and didn't give Riggins a chance to defend himself.  (:;) Geee that made me furious!!  He's so used to needing to be TOUGH on the Panthers, that he has a real problem separating work from just being a regular guy.

I love Landry.  He's so sweet and like you say he treats women with respect.  What a good guy!  Tyra & Landry would be a mismatch I'm afraid, b/c she is sooo unsettled and so uncertain of what she wants out of life and who she wants.  I think she feels bad for Landry being crazy about her, but at the same time she cannot reciprocate in all honesty.  At least, she let him know though.  Wow, things sure got complicated this week!!  But I'm really enjoying the show & hope it's not cancelled after this season.

Geez, i'm really getting sheepy, so off to bed now.
I fall asleep at my comp a lot! :groan:

My sister thinks that he doesn't kick Riggins off the team, just tells him that he will not be sleeping/staying in the locker room.  :yess: So I guess that could mean he is still on the team which explains why hes pushed by the other coach!

I forgot it was on tonight til someone mentioned it earlier  Just a few more hours!!!! Im off to take a nap (its been a long week, plus sinus' and bratty kids  :'( ). Im ready for the weekend  :groan:

Great episode. Julie and Taylors talk made me cry. He always knows what to say. I did feel bad for the other coach but I also saw how the players acted and I believe they get that tude from their coach. As for Riggins, I am disapointed in what he did but at the same time that is the same guy that held a gun to his head. I just hope that this makes him get his life together and I truly believe that it will. Especially after the talk Coach Taylor gave him. The look in his eyes had change. And I was glad to see the previews because I am hoping this whole 'stealing from the biggest drug dealer in Dillion' isn't in anymore episodes. Hopefully Tim is right and he doesn't remember where he puts his $  :lol3:

Forgot to comment on Smash, that was sweet how it all happened! The whole cheering him on after he gave his "verbal commitment" and then him going home to his mom. She was giving him a hard time then saw the flowers. Sweet.

NBC renewed the show for a full 22-episode second season in May of 2007 after the first season completed airing. Season two episodes began airing on October 5, 2007.[2] Due to the 2007 Writers Guild of America Strike, only 15 episodes were able to be filmed before production had to shut down (which is many more than other networks shows). Their 15th episode could possibly be their season finale if the strike is not resolved in time.

Which means the last episode will air February 1

Leave No One Behind
Matt reaches a tough point in his life where nothing seems to really matter to him anymore, Tami’s relationship continues to grow with Tyra, as Julie becomes more and more jealous. Landry's new friend may screw up his relationship with Tyra, and Smash begins his 3-game suspension.

Wow Mama, you purdy well covered it all!!  Excellent recap! Thanks!
Sorry I haven't been around lately, just been occupied with stuff.  :groan:

I've been wondering if there would be a Season 3, but kind of doubted it b/c of the writer's strike.  Seems last night's show was the start of a "winding down", sort of?  That's the feeling I have.  :res:
How wonderful it would be if the Strike could be settled soon. ( I not only hope for FNL to continue, but for '24' to come baaaak!! )  :yess:

I was also touched by Coach and Julie's talk, and that Riggins was cleared of Coach's suspicions.  I like him, but he can be so rigid and judgemental at times.  Guess that's why he's a good coach, huh?!
He's also softhearted when necessary.

I don't think Matt is in love with Carlotta!!  It's lustful stupid crush!  Maybe I'm wrong, but eventually, I think he will wake up and go back to Julie.  Hope so.  She still cares for him.

Gosh, I hope Riggins puts the money back!  Everytime he seems to be improving himself he does something stupid!  :umn:
After Tim & Lila had their fling, I've felt they stayed attracted to each other, but have both escaped the reality of it by going their own ways.  Their eye contact is a sure giveaway. I've felt the chemistry between them from day one.

Hmmm...what else?  I guess I'll think of it later, & will be baaak.

Yes, what a great show!  I enjoyed it so much.  Just feel sad that the FNL series will probably end.  If it does, I hope it goes out with a few trophies!
 :jumpy:

So how are YOU doing, Mama?  Hope you're feeling good.  Didn't you fall or something?  Read it in one of the BB threads i think?  ???
Take care!  :hugs:

I don't want Lyla and Tim together, but who knows what will happen. I just feel like something is going to happen and he is going to find a sweet girl, get married and have babies (just kidding, but I loved that episode last week of him playing with Gracie hehe). Lyla is annoying to me lol. I've always seen her getting with that one guy that lives with Buddy (the one she helped), I can never spell his name!

Anyways, I just hope they don't focus on the $ thing, or nobody goes after Tim blah blah blah. Hopefully that drug dude doesn't notice. Not saying what he did was right but well the guy is desperate. Its sad his parents don't send $ (well his dad as we don't even know about his mom). And I really wish that the neighbor (Tim/Billys) hadn't moved because I believe his brother loved her and Tim would love to be in that little boys life  :'(

Isn't Matt just a junior? I believe that it could come back for season 3, we just gotta give it time! With the writers strike im sure it will be solved by then. LOL!

Forgot to answer you about me. I fell in December, sprained my ankle. Two days later I ended up in the ER with them thinking it was my appendix. Because of the baby they couldn't really help me. They drew blood three different times and didn't really find anything! But once again no more tests they can do and its just a deal with it thing because of the babe! I still don't feel better, but at least its not the throbbing pain everyday like it was for just about a month now (the 17th it will be a month). But it does come on at certain times. Im doing ok otherwise. Can't seem to sleep at night, and then with the boys I am so darn tired, plus this baby  I'll be glad when its OUT!  :lol3:

Can't wait to find out what this baby is. Im really hoping for another boy. My sister really wants a girl (shes due about 2 weeks after me but will prolly go late as this is her first), and I just know my luck that we will have the opposite  Her husband wants a boy though (he has two daughters) so that would be nice but im the only one thinking shes having a girl. And she has the girl gear pattern picked out already and the name and everything and I really wanna buy it for her shower. She will have a boy just cause they can't decide on a dang name for it :lol3:

Oy!  I forgot about the gal next door w/ the little boy that Tim befriended.  So she moved back and now I bet they get "reacquainted".  And definitely, Tim should be buds with the boy again.  Tim was a major part of his little life.  Then it might be good if she (what's her name?  should rewatch my tape!) ....& Tim resume their relatonship.  But I wonder if Tim will due to the trust issue?  She left him once so I dunno....
You know the old saying..."screw me once, shame on you; screw me twice, shame on ME."
Whatever!!

Sorry about your fall and the pain n' stuff you're having to tolerate.  Not fun, for sure.  You have your hands full!!  Then not getting sleep you need isn't helping.
Hope things get better for ya, Mama.
Sending many positive thoughts your way!  :kuss:  :hugs:

Isn't her name Jackie? She did move back? Ohhhh im so confused :lol3: I think I fell asleep towards the end or something cause I didn't see in the preview who he walks in with the rose in his hand  :duno: Do you know?

Anyways I could see her and Billy together but not her and Tim, he could be a good uncle though.  :yess:

Thanks for the thoughts! I think im getting the flu, oh the joys. I swear my immune system sucks when im pregnant. When im not im fine!!! I wonder if there is truth to that .... hmmm. Luckily my husband has been taking the boys in the morning and that way I get to "sleep in" lol.

Oh Gosh, I forgot what was in the preview.  Just watched and it shows a close up of Lila; next frame...Tim walking into a living room w/ a bouquet (doesn't look like roses to me).  Next frame, same room, looks like Lila and Jason kissing!!  OMG...could it really be THEM?  Sure doesn't look like Billy & Jackie (if that's her name).  This is taking place INside, a piano nearby where Tim tosses the bouquet after he sees them kissing.  It's NOT Billy.  The guy's hair is lighter than Billy's and the head really resembles Jason Street's!!  His hair is longer and straight.
If I recall correctly, either (or both?) Lila's and Jason's parents' homes have a piano.
:girly  Later EDIT!  Rewatched the preview: The kissing couple is not in a home, but in Lila's church OR, a studio not in the church?  where she starts her radio or tv job.  However, I bet the studio is IN the church.  Regardless, the girl is Lila.  And remember...she & Jason talked recently in her church about life etc? Well, it sure looks like Jason's head and hair to me!  Did you tape the show?  If not, maybe you could go to the NBC website and view the video.
(of course, even if it IS Lila and Jason, you know about cbs hype!!  So I'm not building up hopes. )

Ok I was wrong about Jackie.  I thought she was carrying stuff INTO her house, but the opposite!  She came back to pick up some of her stuff!  She's moving somewhere she doesn't know yet...but maybe Corpus Christy.  She told Tim the reason she kicked Billy out was b/c he lost his job and she can't handle two mortgages, to which Tim replied, "I could've been the first to tell you that guy can't hold a job more than 6 mo."  :groan:

I'm not sure if Lila would be totally happy with Tim OR Jason due to past circumstances.  And the ex prison guy?  uh-huh.  nope.  Too risky.  I can't think of anyone of the FNL cast who would be a good match for her and who wouldn't have anything to do with her past!

Well I think it might be someone other from church, like you said the new job. Who knows!!!! I feel bad for my Tim, and it looks like to me that Jason is out of the picture but then if you read the previews I think he was mentioned  :duno: Guess we will wait and see. Im sad this will be one of the last episodes :( CSI Miami's last episode was tonight and of course it ended unfinished. Darn writers strike.

No I didn't get a flu shot. I never have, everytime someone in my family gets one they end up getting the flu twice as bad then they normally would!

Found this in TVGuide Mag "You Tell Us", January 14-20 issue, Pg 6:

LIGHTS OUT?

"What's happened to Friday Night Lights?  It bears no resemblence to the excellent show I was telling everyone they just had to watch.  Are producers trying to lure more viewers with all the sex and drinking?  This strategy is only going to lose them the fan base who fought to keep this show on the air in the first place." --Jane Manning, Norridge, Ill

I don't really have anything to say for this episode. Hated the whole movie theater fight, even the dinner with the family of them saying they couldn't date each other. Ummmm, im glad the Gracie/daycare thing worked out. Felt bad for Tim AGAIN! And I felt even worse for the guy that lives with Buddy.

But overall, I love this show so of course i'll keep watching. Unlike most I like that it is sometimes predictable. Im not one for surprises :lol3:
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

It just seems to me like the producers are showing what they think the viewers want.  That predudice cr@p at the white folks dinner was disheartening to me.  Gee, Smash's family gets invited to dinner, but the hosts had ulterior motives for inviting them.  It was just plain mean and thoughtless to embarass their kids like that.

Poor Tim.  He is trying to do the right things, but it's like he has a black mark on him that won't leave.  I know he has brought a lot of his probs on himself, but dang, he's trying to improve himself, but just keeps getting a kick in the arse.  Grrrr.

Ok, will write more later...gotta git to bed!  :nitenite:

Yeah but it wasn't just the white folks, if you noticed last weeks episode where Smash's mom was getting mad at - whats her name? And then his sisters giving him dirty looks. Its because of the interracial dating they don't feel comfortable with.

And next weeks episode is going to be full of Smash drama  :res:

Oh I know, Mama.  Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.  I meant all the parents there.  It just seemed sad that the racial stuff was mentioned over dinner.   I know all the parents feel strongly about interracial dating, and the kids already know that, but the timing was wrong.  They weren't thinking of just being together as human beings & having a good time.
The interracial stuff was planned by the producers to give us more drama...and they succeeded!
Whatever, it was a good episode.

Oh I knew what you meant, I meant like it was the first time the white parents said something (isn't this their first episode??? ), but then last week Smash's family was having a hard time with it. I don't think they should've said it in front of the kids either, and they kinda put Smash's mom in that position. The dad of the girl didn't seem so concerned, weird that its the moms

I've enjoyed this season but the murder, the Tim getting worse then bad, now Smash getting in trouble - and according to the spoilers having charges pressed I must admit its not the show I became obsessed with.

And im glad Tyra wasn't in this episode - shes been annoying this season

Yeh, I must admit this season hasn't been up to snuff.  It isn't nearly as good as Season 1.  And last week, there wasn't even a football game to cheer at!!  I can really "get into" the games and cheer 'em on.
I know the bad and wierd things that's happening this season do happen in the world, & Dillon or any small town are not exempt from yukky bad stuff, but the general storyline lost its continuity.  I thought the storyline would continue to be centered more around Jason Street & Lila...and of course Coach & family...with the others "sidelined".

If Season 3 happens, where on earth will the story go I wonder!!  :ascared :o :help:

Im surprised we don't see more of Tyra though the last two episodes look like we will (with the volleyball team thing).

Don't really have much to say this episode. The meth addicts need to be smacked. Glad Lyla gave him the money, I so knew that was coming.

As for Tyra, looks like she enjoyed volleyball and it was a perfect fit for her. LOL! Still felt bad for Riggins.

Jason was doing good with the car sales. I think he will be GREAT!

Can't say I blame Smash for taking the apology back. The hug between him and his sister made me all teary eyed. Ummmm not much to add.

This season (especially these last few episodes) have been way predictible. Though I kinda like that

Not relaly looking forward to next episode. Not cause its the last but because of coach and Matt  :'(

Hey Mama, I haven't watched all of tonite's ep & hope to have time tomorrow.  Had an emergency Thurs night when I had to call 911 for my best friend Gary.  We were at the hospital until 3ish am.  He's ok, but sure gave us a scare.  He has a heart prob, but test results didn't indicate that was causing extreme dizziness.
Whew, i was fit to be tied.
He will see the doctors next Monday.

Me to. That boy has every reason to 'feel sorry for himself' so to speak.

Lets see, Julie breaks up with him for that one guy (didn't work out too well for her), then the Carolotta, just as he was falling in love with her she has to leave, he takes care of his grandma, holds a job and runs a whole offense, and his dad and him ended on bad terms last season (when he went back to Iraq and they had gotten in that fight).  :'(

...and before Carlotta, he had a g/f from school.  He dumped her for Carlotta! :groan: So he has brought a lot of it on himself, it didn't just happen!
Sad but true.  I think he will eventually get his act together though, and will make something of his life.  Hope so!

The above episode will be the last (number 15 of the season)!

Reposting this:
NBC renewed the show for a full 22-episode second season in May of 2007 after the first season completed airing. Season two episodes began airing on October 5, 2007.[2] Due to the 2007 Writers Guild of America Strike, only 15 episodes were able to be filmed before production had to shut down (which is many more than other networks shows). Their 15th episode could possibly be their season finale if the strike is not resolved in time.

According to the previews there is another new episode next week. But every article said tonights was the last because of the writers strike.

Yeah, everything I read indicated Friday 2/1 was the last ep.
Here's hoping they're wrong and the show will air next Fri with another new one...NOT a repeat!

Did you find out yet if you're having a boy or girl, Mama?

I'm all caught up on the show Finally!!

So Landry & Trya back together.  Do you think it will last?  I don't.  Tyra is too fickle to stay with one guy for very long.  Landry is a lovesick puppy dog, & very naive.

Aw gee, Mama, I keep falling asleep.  Will return later today I hope, cuz I do have more to say....

modified to get rid of the jillion 11111's and 0000's when I fell asleep..face on the keyboard!  :lol3:  When I woke up, I tried fruitlessly to get rid of them and they wouldn't delete!! grrr. I don't know if it was a site prob or my comp?  :whever:

So...Jason sold a van, using great tactics!  When he put his mind to it, he found he could be a purdy good salesman after all.  Hope he continues to succeed w/ his new job and show up those upper totem pole jerks who were making fun of him.  Being stuck in a wheel chair sucks, but Jason has what it takes to be successful when he sets his mind to it.

Let's see...what else?  Oh yeh...Matt.  What a mess he was...sooo unlike him BEFORE he got sidetracked with Carlotta.  Well before that...NOT forgiving Julie and getting back with her.  Do you think they might reunite eventually?  Julie sure messed up her chance with Matt, but I wonder if he may still have feelings for her?

Coach did a great job trying to straighten up Matt's act!!  Loved that scene!

Riggins.  Lila.  She won't admit it, but I think she still likes Riggins...a LOT.  The church guy is nice and would be good to her but her heart is not really with him...not totally.  Do you think?  I just sense she is using the church as an escape route from all the stuff she's been thru.  Jason, Riggins, then her mom and dad splitting up.  But what she's doing in the church is good for her too and she truly means well, imo.  I respect her for choosing that route instead of boozing or drugs.

Ok, there was more, but can't remember at the moment.  It was a great ep, and I'm happy to know there'll be at least one more!  ;D

Yeah and you know something about Jason, I think football and being the star quarterback and under all that pressure (you know the qbs get all the blame all the glory) has helped him become a salesman. I dunno, that is probably just my thinking.

I did like the scene with coach and Matt. After Matt said "why does everyone leave me" the look in coach's eyes looked like he wanted to cry. :(

As for Lyla her boyfriend seems like a jerkish kinda guy. I dunno.

We find out Tuesday if its a boy or girl.

That was sad about Matt saying everyone leaves him...and Coach's reaction.
 :(
Gee, his key players are out.  Smash, Riggins, Matt.  But that's reality, huh?

So this Tues you find out if you're carrying a boy or girl!  Cool.  Hmmm...I'm going to guess it's another boy!
Are you carrying the baby differently than your other pregnancy's?

Did I miss something? Matt and Riggins are out? Cause of the missing practice or what?

The only different thing is I haven't felt all that great this time around but the flu went around here bad like three times in 2-3 months and I got it twice so I wonder if that has anything to do with that. I went back and forth on boy/ girl but as of now I think its another boy!

I'm so sorry you've had the flu and hope you're OK now.

One thing I forgot to mention was Julie being so jealous of her mom giving Trya a lot of attention.  Julie is such a brat.  Grow up, girl.
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

Im really surprised that Julie isn't into sports. With a dad like Taylor. I understand her if shesj ust not insterested but do you see how she acts about volleyball? Seems to me she is just a brat about sports in general

Im glad Tyra finally found something she seems to love. And I have to admit I was glad that Landry broke it off with that girl, she got kinda annoying and fast :lol3: But I didn't think he'd go back to Tyra. His dad won't be happy bout that!
Title: Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2 *spoilers*

Yeh, it is strange Julie isn't into the sports scene....but some girls really don't care for it evne if they do have parent who is...I guess.

As tall as Tyra is, she's really good for volleyball and does a great job!  She seems to enjoy it a lot.

I forgot about Landry's dad wanting him to stay away from Tyra.
That other girl is really wierd  :lol3:  and was really making ME nervous! :groan: :res:
She & Landry are definitely not a match, noooo way.
Not that he and Tyra are either.  I just fear that Landry is going to end up getting hurt by her eventually.  A few one nite stands after awhile will get old and i  don't think they have anything substantial to keep them together long term.  I hate to see Landry get hurt by her again. :'(

Im glad im not the only one that thought that about her. Isn't Landry a junior (Matt is a junior so I thought that is what Landry is). And then that girl is a freshman, not that there is anything wrong with that. They seemed to have some things in common but your right, her character is one to make a person nervous :lol3: Maybe Tyra has 'grown' up, maybe him moving on was just what he needed to do to show her what she was missing. Who knows. Sad this is the last episode :(

Yeah, sad.  But if the Writers' Strike is in fact going to reach a settlement, maybe...just maybe...we'll see a Season 3 of FNL?? ???  (next fall?)
Omigosh how I sooooo hope-hope-hope sooooo!!  :yess:

Yep, that was the right thing for Landry to do. And I truly hope Tyra did learn from him what she was missing and took it seriously.  Maybe she did.  If so, and she honestly likes Landry and isn't just trying to redeem herself from her previous actions, then I say go for it.  She seems like an honest girl and Landry is honest.  Maybe it'll work for them?
Gosh, puhleezzz let the Writers strike settle so we can have scripted tv again!!
Esp FNL!!  It's like we get so attached to the characters that we feel a part of them.  (that's how I felt about Judging Amy.  Then they had to go and dump the series.  I was just sick about it.  :'( :'(  But I do have the entire series on video after taping the repeats from TNT  ;D  ;D)

My mom was obsessed with judging Amy.

I'll give it to Tyra, when she had the talk with her mom. She seemed serious where as she did not ACT like her mom and got mad at what her mom said. Know what I mean?

I think there will be a season 3, only because Matt and Julie are juniors. And we have to see them graduate! I think this Smash not on the team, is a way to wean him from us. Not sure about Tyra, but maybe she will hang around in Dillion.

ohh, thanks for jogging my memory about Tyra's talk w/ her mom.  Yeh, her mom is a real piece of work.  Good for Tyra, giving her mom heck.

Gee, I hadn't thought about Smash's character leaving the show.   As these kids grow up and leave Dillion for college or whatever reason, they might feature them on holidays...or not at all.  New characters will replace them.

About an hour ago, I tried a jillion times to open your new thread, but
couldn't.  No matter what I tried to open, it would start to open, then stopped and froze up.  I think it was due to all the photos someone  posted b/c they were just "setting" in the Most Recent Posts on the home page!  Lots of large photos in one thread jams it up sometimes, just b/c they're such large files.
Ok, I'm gonna go over there and hopefully be able to open & read Mama2FOURboys!! :wohoo:

TVShowsonDVD had this exciting news about the upcoming release of FNL: Season 2:
The other day we told you that an upcoming DVD of a Joaquin Phoenix film, Reservation Road, would include a bonus television episode, the second season premiere episode of Friday Night Lights. Fans will be very happy to know that they won't have to wait long to get the rest of the season, though!

An industry source, who wishes to remain anonymous, has informed us that they've received the heads-up that Friday Night Lights - The 2nd Season, will be in stores on April 22nd. That set will include all 15 episodes of the strike-shortened sophomore season (twenty-two eps were originally ordered by the network), including episodes that will air tonight and next week.

Since there are episodes still to be broadcast yet, Universal has not formally announced this release. Our source tells us that this is a done deal, though...or as much of a done deal as DVD release dates ever can be (they are always subject to change, of course, until you actually hold them in your hand). We won't get any other details, such as pricing or extras, until the studio makes the release official. But stay tuned and we'll bring that to you just as soon as we can!

Glad season 2 is coming out, but with the writers strike ending I was hoping this would be a show they would jump on. Oh and according to this its the sophmore season, but I thought Matt and Julie were juniors. Anyways, that could mean 2 more seasons if thats correct! I also hate that it ended like it did Friday, and that is all that will be on this seasons dvd.

Sorry I've been away from here so long, Mama.  Ya know, I can't remember if I watched the last ep!! arrgg.  I did tape it tho.  Now if I can find it after cleaning house for company this week...
I do know it's in a safe place! :lol3:

Well, in the new TVGuide, it has a pic of Smash in the locker room and all it says is: "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
The Panthers have played their final game this season.  It's up in the air if they'll be back. (NBC)"
That doesn't sound good...but you never know.  They may surprise us?
I've looked thru the Guide to see if there was more info, but haven't found anything.

I think its a good sign but who knows. You would think there would be some kind of way to find out if it could come back to finish the season with the writers strike being over with. Its kinda like my other show that ended with no ending (lol yeah there is a word but whatever). I guess it could always come back for playoffs, afterall the final game was the last one. No wait cause Smash hadn't did his 3 game suspension. UH!!!

Good to know the Seas2 dvd is out.  Thanks for letting me know, Mama.

Hey, do you ever sleep?  I see you on here day and night!!  BB9 is really keeping you busy, huh?

Friday Night Lights': back for season 3
By FRAZIER MOORE, AP Television Writer
1 hour, 13 minutes ago

NEW YORK - "Friday Night Lights" will shine again next season.

The acclaimed football-and-family drama will return on NBC for a third year after the 13 new episodes have aired on satellite-television provider DirecTV, in an unusual deal designed to spread production costs while rekindling a series whose audience until now has been as small as it is fervent.

The series will unfold weekly for DirecTV subscribers beginning Oct. 1. Then, early in 2009, it will be seen on NBC, which made the announcement Wednesday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Rumors of such a rescue for "Friday Night Lights" began circulating last month, but a final deal wasn't struck between the network, studio, producers and satellite service until this week, the participants said Tuesday. They agreed that negotiations were driven by a shared mission to give the series renewed life.

Executive producer Jason Katims recalled that, four or five weeks ago, network and studio bosses vowed "to figure out a way to keep this show on the air, despite all the challenges of justifying it from a business standpoint."

"And here we are," Katims said. "They did it."

"There is such a passion for this show among its viewers," said NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman, "and although you would hope that passion would have manifested itself in higher ratings," the new arrangement allows NBC "to have this jewel of a show and not even need to expand its audience to succeed on a financial basis."

Of course, hopes are high the audience will expand. (In its now-concluded second season, the show averaged just 6.2 million viewers, tying it for 117th place in network prime time.)

Premiering each episode for DirecTV's subscriber base of 16.8 million shouldn't hurt the series' prospects among NBC's much larger universe of viewers, Silverman said. And with DirecTV mounting an aggressive marketing campaign of its own, heightened public awareness of the series might carry over, drawing a larger audience for its later NBC run.

The deal was first discussed in January when Silverman and Eric Shanks, DirecTV vice president of entertainment, met up at the Sundance Film Festival.

"I'm a fan of the show," Shanks said, "and that was one reason why I was happy to be in a position to help it continue." And he had done business with Universal Media Studios, the network's production arm. A year ago, he acquired "Passions" for an exclusive season-long run after that daytime drama was canceled by NBC.

"Friday Night Lights" will be available to DirecTV subscribers on its entertainment channel, The 101. And while the deal is for one year only, both Silverman and Shanks said it might extend go that.

"I'm so enamored with the quality of the product that I really haven't set any particular ratings goals or subscriber goals for it," Shanks said.

Filmed in Austin, the series depicts a small Texas town unified by its high school football team, the Dillon Panthers. Kyle Chandler heads up the large ensemble cast as Coach Eric Taylor, whose never-say-die spirit seems to have served the series well since it premiered in September 2006 to ecstatic reviews but lackluster numbers. Despite its acclaim (including a Peabody award), an active fan community and continued expressions of support by NBC, the show seemed to live from week to week.

Until now.

"It's really reassuring to have a known quantity of episodes, and not have any question marks," said Katims, who now has a guaranteed season with which to work. "I think that will really energize our storytelling. I'm hoping to get the writers into a room within the next 48 hours." Production should resume in July.

But that will only be the start, said Katherine Pope, president of Universal Media Studios.

"We aren't just trying to keep the patient on life support for another season," she said. "This is about bringing the show to the next level, in quality and acceptance. This is about exploding the show! You think the show has been brilliant these past two seasons? This is going to be the best season yet!"

Ahhh...sweet relief!  That is sooo great how they've worked it out for FNL to continue and even draw a larger audience eventually.  Now, I wish I had Direct TV to get a jumpstart on Seas3!  That's ok, as long as it returns in 2009.  All great things are worth waiting for!
Thanks for posting that info and the links.

Also, CONGRATS on your 8000th post, Mama!   :wohoo:

No kidding?  I had no idea there was going to be a Seas3!  I have cable (50 channels), but not direct tv.  My cable is thru this small town's little phone company!  Gee, I wish it was on one of my channels.

So how are you Mama?  And the babe?  How is he doing?  Hope great!
