Yigo, Guam (12/15- 12/16)

chevy (http://www.outsports.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=5497&view=findpost&p=312439) posted on posts on Dec 16th( was on Guam for business this week ):I heard about the Amazing Race All Stars. As it turns out that I was on Guam for business this week and got to see a few of the All-Star teams complete in some challenges. For the sake of integrity, I won't mention what teams I saw but I did get to see them do the road blocks. It was interesting to see the behind the scenes part of it all just for a few minutes of footage. They did their competition on the AF base there and it was pretty cool. We were not allowed to take pictures for obvious reasons. I can't wait to see the episodes air in Feb to see how it turns out.

You will be surprised on who the final 4 will be. I had the opportunity to see all 4 teams in action during a stop in Guam in Dec. IT was very interesting to see what goes behind the filming. It will be interesting to see what actually makes it on TV. They probably filmed for a couple of hours to get just a few minutes of final footage. When the epsiode airs, I will give you more of my take on the "realism" of the tasks accomplished

 ^^^ Charla/Mirna were first with (again) a huge lead Eric/Danielle were next followed by...BQ's and...Cha Cha Chas's ( from what he wrote to Brad/foxburns (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,8579.msg172594.html#msg172594) )

Amazing Race Visits Guam
PNC Staff Reporter 16.DEC.06
10:22am Look out for a Guam stop in next season’s “The Amazing Race”. Guam was paid a visit by competitors of that reality TV show.
Guam was apparently a stop, and competitors were on Andersen Air Force, being filmed. The Pacific News Center contacted Air Force Officials, who confirmed the film crew was on base, but could not comment any further.

If the D/O confessional is Guam, it must be on a different part of the island. Most of the pictures I've seen of AAFB (like here (http://www.specialoperations.com/Images_Folder/POM/)--look for "Yigo" pictures) make it look flat.

No dedications for me? :rotf:

Oswald/Danny were wearing the same clothes when they were in the KL airport. [/random]

Northern Guam has a higher population density than Southern Guam, so if this shot is from N. Guam, it would have to be taken somewhere where no one lives within, I'm guestimating a mile near a mountain. Could the picture most likely have been taken near a beach? I know that to access some of the remote beaches here on island, you have to go down a slopy road (the one going to Tanguisson beach near Two Lover's Point is a zigzag road), so most likely you would see a hill/mountain near the beach.

There is a beach at AAFB (as Gman pointed out in another thread) called Tarague beach. The picture could be from there, but I don't know. Or maybe Ritidian beach, which is on the northernmost point of Guam. Any resemblance with this huge limestone rock from that place?

Okay so since I've said that N. Guam is more populated than S. Guam, it could be that the picture is from S. Guam instead, and not necessarily near the beach. S. Guam has a lot of mountains; maybe mountain ranges is a better term, or maybe hills (compared to, I guess, what you guys have seen). The highest mountain of Guam is Mt. Lamlam, standing at 1334 ft. There are smaller ones near it, and the picture could be from any one of those. How about Mount Sasalåguan, near Inarajan?

This Saturday, I have some time to spare, so I guess I'll go to S. Guam, because I'm somehow certain that the picture of the Cha's confessional is from there. Oh, and I'll print out the picture too, and show it to some people there, cause they might tell me that they indeed saw the teams doing tasks there.

Somehow it'll be a bit hilarious for me if the pit stop happened to be in a ranch.

;D  OK, so I guess this stuff belongs here (copied from intro flash sequence thread)

Or, as peach suggested, the chopper could be a MH-60S Knighthawk (http://www.sikorsky.com/details/1,,CLI1_DIV69_ETI848,00.html) used on Guam by the Helicopter Combat Support (HC) Squadron 5 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/navy/hc-5.htm) (now called Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO FIVE [HSC-25] ) .  They do a lot of "vertical lifting".

If I can find the time, I will try to find my old pictures from Guam (circa. 1982) including shots of AAFB, the hills and caves where the Japanese were holed up, beaches, etc.  They are buried somewhere. (Didn't have digital files in those days!)

This morning Australia (and Guam) time I placed a call to Glenn Webber, Operations Supervisor of Northwest Airlines, to set up a meeting for Monday morning prior to my departure from Guam. He was not in today, but he will be in Monday. Unfortunately, it is not known if he will be there before 11am when I have to board. If I can meet with him I will. If not, I will have the basis for a call ocne I get back to the U.S.

Just wondering, but would the colour of the grass indicate that it was autumn?
I'm probably way off, but Mount Finansanta looks similar.

 :hello2: :hithere: headcrusher!

That seems like a great lead!

Could you point me in the right direction for your pics of the MT please? For some reason, I'm thinking there is some airplane love going on here!

Hakekushu8--any luck in your explorings today?

Okay--looks like Mt. F is in the southwest--pretty far away from AAFB.

Headcrusher--they would have been doing tasks on 12/15.

Well, I drove around S. Guam yesterday without a camera, so no pics, sorry. Anyways, I enjoyed it, because it was only my second time driving around that place. I only stayed in the main roads: Rt.4 - Cross Island Rd., and Rt.17 which goes through the mountain ranges. I didn't really had enough time to explore the side roads, which would lead to places closer to the bottom of the mountain ranges and could also provide a view quite similar to the one the Chas were in. But most of those side roads go to private properties, (ranches, etc.) and I said, I really didn't have time to explore all of them.

So if you guys were to ask me where the Cha's confessional could have been, here are my picks:

Sorry I couldn't post the pics directly here. Copyright issues.

Thank you SO much for doing all that--I was thinking about you today cause I wanted to go too!

Great info--we can start to play with that this week.

Don't worry about the pics--I'm learning about that too!

Is that Mt Finansata mentioned above a possibility in your mind?

Nice picture headcrusher

Dec 15th/16th in the States is when they were in Guam
hakushu would know the weather better than any of us but this is what I dug up ...

I'm unsure but I think it was sunny. I was sick that day because of the intermittent rainfall earlier that week; same as in Hong Kong and Macau!. Oh, and it was also my finals, so I guess stress was a factor. [/rantdom]

I don't know about Mt. Finansanta, peach. If you look at the picture headcrusher has provided, there's a back mountain and a front mountain. Yeah, the area is quite mountainous, and I don't think there's any place in that area that is similar to the one found in the Cha's confessional picture, wherein the mountain has that slope going down to a flat area.

Both...sorta.  Student pilot, amateur photographer (better than being an amateur pilot and a student photographer I guess)

One thing that's bugging me about Mt. Finansanta.  The hiking site I found that picture at says it's a 6 hour, difficult, hike to the summit.  Would TPTB really set up a pit stop in rough terrain like that??

The same way all confessionals in HK were at night and not all got to the pit stop at night.  And they dont have that huge of a lead, lol, it was only a few hours and given their track record who knows if they even keep that lead!

D/O clothes at the end of episode 11 do not match the clothes they are seen wearing in the confessional we've had of them for a while now. The lighting in the BG shot of D/K and E/D looks virtually the same.

Dustin: teams are holding nothing back now and I think even more on this next leg everyone is just going to be fighting their hearts out.
Eric: we have the abilities to win the million $$ we just gotta concentrate, focus and haul ass.
Oswald: Danny & I have gone through 13 years of ups and downs but I think ultimately you know its how your result of disagreements at the end that sets the strength of the relationship.

This shot was taken either between 10:36 and 10:53 am or 1:37 and 1:54 pm (assumes December 15th).

Clarification of the AM vs PM may follow but it's time to watch the show here.

Don't spend too much time on trying to determine the takeoff time of the B-52 I don't think that particular flight had anything to do with the actual show.  Same may be true of the nose on shot of the C-17; that may also be stock shot.

But check the long shadow cast by the loadmaster as Charla and Mirna scamper up the ramp.

12. Macau 12/14 to Hong Kong to Guam
Teams should take the hydrofoil back to Hong Kong since the International Airport has superior flights to everywhere.
Flight options start at 1010 with JAL730 to NRT 1010 to 1500, then CO007 NRT to GUM 1715 to 1950 and end with the most direct routing of CEBU AIR 119 to MNL 1940 to 2140, then CO934 MNL to GUM 2310 to 0440. There are about 10 other combinations in between.

1.  I say either Dustin & Kandice or Charla & Mirna for the Patriotism.  And I say Danielle for the fear of losing for her team.

2.  Is obviously something about Danny & Oswald.

3.  Charla & Mirna are probably telling the pilot rapido, rapido.

Military bases? So more than one? Two major bases here: one is up north, and the other is down south (the Naval station is in the southwest).

I agree with Chateau that that line thing over Dustin/Kandice's horizon is the Pacific Ocean... It could be the Philippine Sea, because I'm thinking that the Pit Stop is still in the War of the Pacific National Historical Park. I'll check on Wednesday.

Anyways, I'm a bit annoyed that they did the Detour and Roadblock in the bases. There's other places here where they could at least the Detour. :-\

How about this spot?

I was looking for rocky stuff near the water.

It also has to be on the southwest of the island in order for the Chas confessional shot to be end of day with sun coming from their left rear.

The first frame here is tilted and looking south to get the same look as the Cha shot.
The next frames are looking straight down on the area and zooming out to show where it is.

Pink shaded area in picture 1 is blown up in picture 2.  The forest looking place with the paths is actually a hill/rock. I think it's the same one as in the picture 3.

Where is that Death and Duty sign from? Is it Ga'an point at Agat Beach by chance?

The picture of the mountain and "Death and Duty" does this refer to the caves that some Japanese soldiers holed up in for 30 some years after Guam was freed?  I just noticed again, are those Japanese characters in the upper right hand corner?  This would seem to indicate that the mountain, did have something to do with the Japanese hold outs.,

And I can't remember after all these years, is there a jungle warfare training site at the Naval base.  Marines perhaps? Or am I thinking of Saipan which we filmed at during the same trip back in '81?

Er... Agat is further down south of the place I've indicated up there, peach. The area I've taken a screenshot up thread is of the Asan Beach Unit (http://www.nps.gov/wapa/planyourvisit/asan-beach-unit.htm) area.

See the peninsula I've indicated as Adelup in picture 1 up there? The Ricardo J. Bordallo Government Complex is there, and that area is part of Hagåtña, the capital.

Honestly, I was only guessing with picture 3. It might, or might not, belong in the Asan Beach area.  It was just that the contour of the slope going down to the right side in that picture has some similarities to the contour of the hill/mountain behind the Chas in their confessional. ;D

Oh, and is this really the episode title? I'm confused. Someone at wikipedia wrote the ep11 title there, but I took it out cause I think he/she got it from here and I'm thinking puddin is only joking... ???

 Looks like BVM & TAR hooked into the annual Christmas (humanitarian) airdrop from Guam to some Pacific islands (albeit a few weeks earlier for TAR).  Andersen AFB was a participant last year.

Items being solicited are first-aid kits, garden tools, school supplies, toys, fishing gear, snorkeling equipment, hygiene products, canned and non-perishable foods and used clothing.
Don't forget guys chevy said he saw the teams performing the RB at the AAFB and the Detour sure looks like AAFB so the pitstop/confessionals maybe nearby?

:waves: Hi everyone been gone on business for awhile. My son is in Law enforcement and he was home last night as I was reading and catching up on everthing. He stated that you folks should grab some cold cases and with the great detective work you folks do you probably solve some cases. Any way in the confessional of D/O is that a water fall behind them? Keep up the great work.

Nice compliment--thanks!

That "zero gravity" stuff makes me think of the Vomit Comet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vomit_comet).

Okay I've been poking around both the naval base and the airforce base looking for anything to do with zero gravity flights.

The KC-135 Stratotanker is the plane used some years ago for zero-gravity flight training.
I eventually was able to place one of those at AAFB, but can find no mention of any zero-gravity training.  Wonder if this is just exaggeration? They might get to do some kind of jet flight but...

And teletubbies? Possible reference to flight suits?

Darn it all--what use is it having an Admiral in the family if he's not around when you need him!

What is Danielle doing--some kind or orienteering/jungle training exercise?

I am going to give the girl some brownie points because she has definitely done the harder challenges for her team. I did wonder last week when Eric used what I think? was his last Roadblock if she shouldn't have done that one and left Eric for what was sure to be coming...

1. Definitely Charla and Mirna for the patriotism, Danielle for the fear of losing

2. They won't make the final 3!!

3. Either BQ's or C/M

Hello. I'm back from Australia. 24 hours and some minutes ago on Guam I met with  Northwest Operations Supervisor Glenn Weber (only one "b" is correct) and his lieutenant Marie Lizama (she actually wrote and sent out the blog in December about what happened on Dec. 15 and 16 that has made Glenn a TAR celebrity).  I had a 7.5 hour layover in Guam International Airport and Hakushu8, an RFF member who lives on Guam, graciously deferred to me on this.

MEETING WITH GLENN WEBER AND MARIE LIZAMA
Glenn is expecting to  become a local celebrity on Guam as soon as the relevant episode airs (usually within about 10 hours after U.S. East Coast due to time difference). He got a lot of camera time when the F3 teams booked their flights to Honolulu via Tokyo-Narita on the afternoon of Saturday Dec. 16. The previous day was a big day at Guam International Airport as Uchenna/Joyce, the Guidos and Danny/Oswald all departed with Phil on CO904 through Nagoya Japan to Honolulu. Glenn told me he got a brief opportuntiy to chat with Uchenna and Joyce. Dec. 16 had Glenn as the only NW individual on the 2 ticket counters, I believe by choice since he knew what would be happening. First up was Dustin/Kandice, who booked NW 81 mid-afternoon to Narita and NW10 from there to Honolulu. Charla/Mirna actually booked the same flights through Continental's ticket counter. Last was Eric/Danielle, who had run into a NW 747 pilot who convinced them to take the 20 minute later NW73 to Narita to get the comfort of the 747. After Dustin and Kandice heard about this, they decided to change their booking to do the same. The connect time to NW10 was still quite adedquate. Their production crew of cameraman and soundman just barely made it through customs with their equipment to get on the later flight.

TV cameras at the airport caused a great deal of interest from passengers and others at the airport on both days. Recently, the local CBS station on Guam has been showing short advertising clips of some of the local TAR11 action from military bases. Glenn has not been on with Andersen Air Force Base of the Naval Base, but recent info suggests that Andersen is where the action and filming took place. I had as a seatmate from Narita to Newark today a Naval person who was not aware of any rumors about TAR filiming at the Naval Station even though she was not there at the time.

Personally i think Charla and Mirna should come in first.  But they are terrible at keeping leads [Malaysia!].  And i have a question!! I believe there is a spoiler at some airport with "pushy blondes" where was that?  Cause from it the impression i got was they were first at the counter and the teams behind them made fun of them.  So if this was in Guam for the blondes to be first at the counter mean they were first to leave the pit stop?

That's what we were thinking asamber, but C/M booked their flight at a different ticket agent so they could very well be in first.

Wow, so if C/M come in first (or even D/K) then:

- Half the legs of this season would have been won by C/M or D/K (F/F teams)

- E/D will be the first team in the American version of TAR to have not won a previous leg and to win the finale. They'd be the second team into the F3 without a win under their belt (the first being Lyn and Karlyn last season).

P.S I know it's nothing but some random just wrote the order of finish at next week's pitstop on wikipedia (haha reliable) as C/M first, E/D 2nd, Chas 3rd and D/K last. Obviously they haven't been following the spoilers.

P.P.S Poor Dani.

great job apskip!

I just did a search on NWA for SAturady flights out of Guam (I did this for the future assuming saturday flights in the past few months haven't changed much)

These are the only two flights out of Guam that came up:

NW81
3:45pm Depart Guam (GUM)
6:40pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT)
Aircraft 757-200

AND

NW73
4:15pm Depart Guam (GUM)
7:00pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT)
Aircraft 747-200

Both of the flights can leave at either of these two times out of NRT:

NW10
8:30pm Depart Tokyo (NRT)
8:20am Arrive Honolulu/Oahu (HNL)

NW22
8:55pm Depart Tokyo (NRT)
8:45am Arrive Honolulu/Oahu (HNL)

also the two flights above out of NRT were the only flights on NWA to Honolulu that popped up.

I did find these flights out of Guam as well but they were on weekdays.
CO6
12:00pm Depart Guam (GUM)
2:45pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT)

CO10
4:35pm Depart Guam (GUM)
7:15pm Arrive Tokyo (NRT)
Title: Re: EP12: "Oh My God, The Teletubbies Go To War."
Post by: anon1akacolby on April 24, 2007, 12:36:38 AM

I was just looking for flights from NRT to HNL leaving between 7:00PM and 8:30PM and the only flights that I can find are the following that leave at 7:00PM.  There is nothing later.  The next best flights are the NWA flights.

UA880
7:00 pm Depart Tokyo (NRT)
Arrive Honolulu (HNL) 7:18 am

ANA7024
7:00 pm Depart Tokyo (NRT)
Arrive Honolulu (HNL) 7:18 am

USAirways 6476
7:00 pm Depart Tokyo (NRT)
Arrive Honolulu (HNL) 7:18 am

Therefore it looks all teams will be neck and neck going into HNL.  IF C/M are on that earlier flight into NRT, the gods would have to be shining on them brightly in order for them to try and change tickets and make a 7:00PM flight.  That would be amazing if it happened but I don't see it happening.  That's almost impossible!

I am a long time lurker and I must say you guys are AWESOME!!  Normally I have nothing to add when it comes to spoilers but I was on the Watch with Kristin website reading the thread about the Amazing Race and a woman on there said she knew someone that helped the contestants when they were in Guam I wrote her and asked for any info  and this is what she wrote back

"I'd be happy to share what I know with you, and you can pass it on if you want.
A friend of mine was selected to be a driver for the teams that came to the naval base. The Beauty Queens were the first to arrive at the base, and this is who my friend drove. I believe they were the first to finish here as well. I have no idea whether all the teams came to the naval base or if they had the choice to go to the air force base. From the previews for next week, I'm pretty sure that Eric & Danielle also came to the naval base, and the Charla & Mirna were at the Air Force Base. The challenge on the Naval base involved a run through a jungle, and a short helicopter ride, I think. The challenge at the Air Force base, is part of a toy drop that Guam participates in every December, where they fly donated toys to nearby islands. I really have no idea how any of them did overall here. Hope this helps a little! "

I don't know if this helps at all.  I am also going to write her back and see if she has any times.

It looks like Dani is holding a Roadblock clue based upon the red part of the clue that you can barely make out in this vidcap.  So it looks like the search at the Navy base is the Roadblock.  That leaves the christmas drop and the vomit comet tasks.  Are those the Detour choices?

What the hell is our Zanzibar boat--in the same category as the Mt, the xylophone, the Dolphin maybe.(it's Philpper!)

Okay--we have Charla, Oswald, and Dani for sure doing the Roadbock. What are they holding? A walkie talkie or a GPS?

Detour: teams in yellow have wet face masks and a big brush--cleaning a jet is probable. (Does Eric have a big moouthful of water in that one shot?)

Others: Christmas drop--we only see Ch/M--the other Detour?

Helicopter: I think this shot shows a military person guiding a team member out to the heli--(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR11/ep12/sub/00524-24-2007.jpg)
does only one person go? Does this have to do with the pallets we saw before dangling from the heli?

Is this Dustin??  (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR11/ep12/sub/00624-24-2007.jpg)  Teletubbies?

What's with the PRE-confessional? D/K say in the video of them in our mystery field that it is either win or go home---I've been thinking that was the Pitstop confessional all along but sounds like when there are four teams still...

And I guess with MrsPreachers info and apskip's flight info it is safe to discount foxburn's info now? A huge Ch/M lead doesn't seem in the cards...

puddin--have you tried to reach chevy again??

peach  a lot of the times the teams recall what happened in a leg, so that could be taken out of context, for example "We were really bitchy today because it's either win, or go home"

I think we should (temporarily) discount foxburn's info for now, until we can analyze the preview a little more, or here from MrsPreachers friend what time Dustin and Kandice were at the Road Block, which I am assuming comes first in this leg.

umm I beleive the BQ's are  talking about being in the final 3? and the Cha's are giving their goodbye confessional? Didn't we already decide that?
and peach..the helicopters and Roadblock go together. And no to the chevy thing ..he knows where we are if he wants to post

I think we have two helicopter thingys--maybe?

This one (short ride??Blackhawk?) which matches the original screencap (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR11/ep12/sub/00524-24-2007.jpg)

and the other screencap one with the pallet--or are they the same??

The exact quote from the BQ's Is "This is do or die for us--either you win or you go home."

It just sounded odd--either you win or you lose would suggest finale...if you win you all go home....
The other sounds like final 4 still to me which is why I asked. Up till I heard that I was totally convinced that all the in the "field of gold" shots were Pitstop confessionals--it just made me think.

Probably just thinking too much!

From earlier:
Quote
Okay I've been poking around both the naval base and the airforce base looking for anything to do with zero gravity flights.

The KC-135 Stratotanker is the plane used some years ago for zero-gravity flight training.
I eventually was able to place one of those at AAFB, but can find no mention of any zero-gravity training.  Wonder if this is just exaggeration? They might get to do some kind of jet flight but...
now i wonder if this refers to the helicopter and was just an exaggeration?

Patriotism could be any of them.
Feelings of sadness--I know many think it is Dani but I think it is Charla--I'll bet she is doubting her abilities to run after Mirna has put her down so much.
Go faster? Well I'd say Eric but he'll be on the ground --so Dustin?

Awesome work on contacting Mr. Weber, apskip!

And yay for previews! :wohoo:

The Chas leave the Guam airport at dawn, so there should be hours of operation in their first task... probably the one in AAFB. Although we don't really know how early chevy saw them doing something there.

And from apskip's flight info he posted long ago, would this be their flight itinerary?

Quote
...CEBU AIR 119 to MNL 1940 to 2140, then CO934 MNL to GUM 2310 to 0440...

If only there is a clearer shot of this one... Never mind... good find sups!  That should be the Asan Bay Overlook (http://www.nps.gov/wapa/planyourvisit/asan-bay-overlook.htm). Well one less trip for me later on.  ;D

eta: Forgot to add in a picture of the Guam airport. The facade is shaped like a latte stone, prominent in Chamorro culture. The one with the Chas has the message "We Support our Troops" in a banner across the hemispherical cap.

I hate hours of operation  :knuckles: .. the Cha's should be behind the other teams at least an hour and a half from the time they leave the Taipa Macau pitstop. I guess thats why they were seen with Phil at the Ferry?

I zoomed in on it and It looks like a detour clue to me...Look at Mirna's pouch, is there a roadblock clue sticking out of it, or is that part of her shirt?

Didn't apskip or someone tell us the earliest flight? Maybe Phil was in no rush that day because there was no earlier flight for him to zip away on...

Great work Sups!

I found the location in Google Earth.  First image is tilt back to show how this one matches the scene int he various teams confessionals.  Then the next images zoom out to reveal the raodway that has a car going by in the confessional.

I heard back from my Source.  It is not a lot of specific info but I hope it helps.

"I don't know any specific times. It was morning I think, I remember her telling me that she and the other drivers went to lunch after they were done. My friend is a woman. I believe my friend drove them to one destination on base, dropped one girl off (sorry, I have no idea which one, she'd never watched the show before and didn't know who they were.) Then she drove the other girl to another place on base, picked the first girl up, and drove them back off of base. I think they were in rental cars. I have no idea if they did anything off of the base, they just needed drivers to be allowed on the base because they don't have military ID's. Hope this helps!!"

*A friend of mine was selected to be a driver for the teams that came to the naval base.
*The Beauty Queens were the first to arrive at the base, and this is who my friend drove.
*I believe they were the first to finish here as well. I have no idea whether all the teams came to the naval base or if they had the choice to go to the air force base.
*From the previews for next week, I'm pretty sure that Eric & Danielle also came to the naval base, and the Charla & Mirna were at the Air Force Base.
*The challenge on the Naval base involved a run through a jungle, and a short helicopter ride, I think.
*The challenge at the Air Force base, is part of a toy drop that Guam participates in every December, where they fly donated toys to nearby islands. I really have no idea how any of them did overall here. Hope this helps a little! "

Well I'm just getting back to this. Not trying to play the devils advocate but I didn't think that the D/O shot at the War in the Pacific Park would be right at the pitstop. They wouldn't be picking up a clue that would say run to the pitstop which was just a few feet away ---- would they?????

I know that the road in the background would fit but am I missing something else here?  ???

In Poland there was a clue at the Palace saying "search for the next pit stop in the palace grounds", so it can be another situation like that.

Holy crap, is that Kandice?   :js:

This shot was taken between 8:08 and 8:18 am (assumes December 15th)

The time comes from solar altitude.  So that means there could be a "4:17 pm" time that looks the same.
But, I was able to determine that the C-17s are parked in a certain part of the airbase and they always are pointed northeast or northwest.
The shadow goes from left to right (image is not inverted thanks to Mirna's watch on her left arm).
Given the parking arrangements of the C-17s, the only way that can happen is in the morning.

Yes it is!
Chateau, thanks for all these times. Does it take you a long time to figure all of this stuff out?

Are we thinking the detour or RB comes first?

I wonder if she packed her bikini for the race!  No wonder the no begging for $ rule.

The first time for a given location takes the longest.  It's faster after that because I can use the same settings.  But some of these shots are tricky and require  additional research.  Some get into 3D thinking and that's another matter.   ;D

Detour First (?) :

C/M are seen at detour at 8:08 - 8 18 AM. There are other shots of them however that look like it is later on in the day, which means they can't have gone to the pit stop AFTER the detour:

Chateau, is there anyway you can tell the time on this shot of Charla, who is doing the RB I believe:

I'm having some doubts about an actual Christmas drop. The nearest neighbor, Rota, is 45 miles away; even the shortest hop would eat up valuable racing time. But I could get behind an "amazing" drop where racers pack the food (Charla's carrying a rice bag) and drop it on a practice run to collect their clue.

Can you paraphrase that?

On the Charla shot, no, I don't see anything to work with.

Sorry Chateau, what I meant is if the Detour comes 2nd (followed by the pit stop), the shots of C/M from later on in the day wouldn't make sense, would they?

Those aircraft aren't the C-17's.  They are C-5 Galaxy's.  The nose of the aircraft is a giveaway,  it sticks out a lot farther (it opens up for front cargo loading), than the C-17.   The aircraft to the left of the C-5's is a KC-10 tanker,  and the large aircraft on the other side of the base look like they're the B-52's.   I actually don't see any C-17's in the google earth picture.

Guam to appear in 'Amazing Race'
By Mark-Alexander Pieper
Pacific Daily News
mpieper@guampdn.com

Guam will get some national exposure next week when CBS's popular "The Amazing Race All-Stars" series airs an episode filmed on Guam last December.

The game show took contestants through various parts of Andersen Air Force Base and will have them trekking through the jungles around Orote Point on Naval Forces Marianas.

The show is scheduled to air on Guam at 9 p.m. Monday.

CBS has a preview of the show available on its Web site. According to the preview of episode 11, one team is "overcome with feelings of patriotism at the U.S. military bases on Guam."
"We are happy to be a part of a reality show, but more than just being an exotic location, we're happy to give the contestants and viewers a glimpse into the Air Force's global reach and power projection," said Sgt. Chris Powell, of AAFB's Public Affairs Office.

Buzz Cafe employee Mike Benito said he watches the adventure show on occasion. The 32-year-old believes many Guam residents, including those that don't normally follow the show, will tune in next week to watch how Guam is depicted.

He said he's a little concerned that the shows may have be only filmed on military bases and doesn't want people to get the idea that Guam is just one big base.

"That's the way a lot of people who don't know much about Guam think anyway
but I think overall (the show) is probably a good thing if they show the good things about the island," he said.

"It's good exposure because you rarely see anything about Guam on a nationwide level unless it has something to do with brown tree snakes."

Found this here (http://www.airliners.net/discussions/military/read.main/64656/)

It may be the airstrip we see Danielle on.

Quote
Can anyone help identify these two abandoned Guam airfields.

Correctly identified as Orote Field, the second photo shows the old Japanese single strip airfield after the U.S. forces had repaired and enlarged the field during WW2.

The last photo is Orote Point. I believe the airfield was of the same name. It is no longer in use and is part of the U.S. Naval Station Guam (or that's what they used to call it!).

And a 1945 picture of Orote Point airfield.

And from a military guide: re the brown tree snakes:
Quote
The jungle areas surrounding the bases seem to provide an ideal habitat for the snakes. This habitat appears to have the highest density of snakes near the port areas.

Poor racers...

The Asan Bay Overlook doesn't seem be the pit stop. It's on Nimitz Hill, which is on a high elevation, hence the overlook. I stopped by there awhile ago to check it out (yay! I can say now that I went to a route marker destination!  :wohoo:) and I checked out the area Chateau encircled. It's actually at the highest point in the place, and a different ocean view can be seen from it.

I'm guessing either the Route Info would tell them to go to the Roadblock, because the Naval Station is pretty near here, or they hike down from that Route Info to a place below for the pitstop. I saw a circular clearing from the overlook, which is odd for me for some reason, so there. I didn't have time to explore this area awhile ago because I only had a few minutes before class, but on Saturday I should be able to come back to the place, maybe with a camera and rope.

And also on Saturday I should be able to explore SW Guam, which I didn't go to last Saturday, and now I regret. The pitstop could be there if it's not at Asan, see. B:)

Hehe, I said I wouldn't be going to the Asan Bay Overlook awhile ago, but I did anyway. My initial reason for being in the Asan area awhile ago was to check if the Asan Beach Park was the pitstop, but no it wasn't. :groan:

So far it looks like the teams take the most direct route from Macao via Manilla to Guam which arrives at 0440. Other flights through NRT seem to arrive late in the afternoon or early evening. Or all teams go from Macao to Hong Kong to Narita and then on to Guam arriving during the evening.  Perhaps going somewhere to find something and then going to AAFB and waiting for the place to open in the early morning after sunrise.

Probably a bunch point as teams head to AAFB but then have to wait for the base to open.  We have Charla and Mirna doing what looks like half of a detour at 8:08AM to 8:18AM (Chateau's best calculation) The second detour task seems to be scrubbing down a large plane.  A big question is do they actually make a flight to some near by island?  That is going to eat up a lot of time.

Later on we do see all four teams doing the ROADBLOCK at Orote Point Airfield which is now part of the U. S. Naval Station Guam (find your way through the jungle and take a helicopter ride somewhere perhaps). We have individual shots of Danielle, Charla, Oswald and Dusitin following the GPS hand held device leading them somewhere.

Then it is on to the pit stop.  D/O get Philiminated

I just thought of something that mrspreacher has been saying.

She said that D/K arrived first at the naval base, and that E/D came after them and that C/M went to the Air Force Base. That would make it appear to be a detour, since there are TWO locations that the teams are at - but she also said that her friend drove ONE team member to one area, and another team member to ANOTHER area,  which makes it seem like a Road Block. Which task was her friend participating in?!

If it was the RB then I say E/D are ahead of C/M in this leg, because they came after the BQs and after the road block should be the pit stop. Charla's confessional shot also looks darker then E/D or D/K's..

(sorry for the  B:) , I'm just trying to organize my thoughts! )

Michael, I think you may have gotten just a bit mixed up with MsPreachers info.

Her source mentioned seeing and driving the BQ's from the entrance of the naval base to wherever on the base they had to perform the task.

Mspreachers reference to Eric and Danielle and Charla and Mirna sounds like it was based upon what was shown in the previews.  Meaning based upon what is seen, Eric and Danielle are shown at the Naval Base doing the search task and Charla and Mirna on the C-17 is at the Air Force base.  I don't believe mspreacher was saying that E/D showed up next and that C/M went to the Air Force Base at the same time.   it's confusing I know because  had the same confusion.  At least I think I am interpretting her info correctly.

MsPreachers info:
Quote

Adding my two cents ..
Maybe they finished the RB in the order that chevy provided via foxburns but with apskips info here (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,11991.msg185677.html#msg185677) ..
( Remember we see the teams driving at some point in Guam and anything could happen, bad directions, car problems etc ..)

Most likely screnario at the Pitstop ( Unless theres something/task the teams have to do on the morning of DEC 16th before they can book flights)

BQ's
C/M or Cha's who wait out the MFE penalty
E/D or Cha's who wait out the MFE penalty
Cha's or E/D with Cha's going out on the MFE penalty

*I believe my friend drove them to one destination on (NAVAL)base, dropped one girl off. Then she drove the other girl to another place on base, picked the first girl up, and drove them back off of (NAVAL) base ( ROADBLOCK).
*The Beauty Queens were the first to arrive at the (NAVAL) base, and this is who my friend drove.
*I believe they were the first to finish here as well.
*I have no idea whether all the teams came to the naval base or if they had the choice to go to the air force base.
*From the previews for next week, I'm pretty sure that Eric & Danielle also came to the naval base ( ROADBLOCK), and the Charla & Mirna were at the Air Force Base ( DETOUR).
*The challenge on the Naval base involved a run through a jungle (Orote Point), and a short helicopter ride (ROADBLOCK), I think.
*The challenge at the Air Force base ( DETOUR), is part of a toy drop that Guam participates in every December, where they fly donated toys to nearby islands. I really have no idea how any of them did overall here.

UPDATE ON FLIGHT INFO TO GUAM

I double checked my flight info and need to change the originating flight and the time of the connecting flight for the first combination, which is the one all teams will logically take. I estimate that the earliest flight Dustin/Kandice could get would be 0500. Any of the following flights to Tokyo-Narita will work to arrive before 3pm:

NW2   departs 0830 arrives 1330
UA890 departs 0855 arrives 1415
CX504 departs 0910 arrives 1435
KA360 departs 0915 arrives 1445
NH912 departs 0940 arrives 1450

All the other teams should also be able to catch any of these flights.

In Narita, the connection is still to CO7, but the timing for that flight is depart 1550 and arrive Guam 2025. Presumably, there will then be hours of operation to again bunch the teams in case any made different flight arrangements and arrived later that night(up to 0440 was possible).

Thanks for the bribe Puddin!

I had been working on it already.  However, it looks like they are all shown sitting in a shaded area.  Except for the Chas who get a little bit of sun on Danny's cap.  That and a lot of guesstimating gives a time of 1:20 pm plus or minus an hour for their shot.

So my little summary is:

Teams arrive in Guam on the evening of the 14th.
Go find something.
Get clue to go to AAFB.
Drive there and have wait for Hours of Operation in the next morning (December 15th).
Detour to scrub stuff or air-drop stuff.
Drive to the Navel base (20 miles by crow).
Roadblock in the jungle
Find the Asan Lookout
Goto the pit stop (nearby the Asan Lookout)

Maybe the Asan Lookout is where they get the Roadblock instructions.

Chateau I like your scenario  :kissy:
So what chevy saw were maybe the detours not Roadblocks?

chevy posts:
*I heard about the Amazing Race All Stars. As it turns out that I was on Guam for business this week and
*got to see a few of the All-Star teams complete in some challenges.
*For the sake of integrity, I won't mention what teams I saw but I did get to see them do the road blocks.
*It was interesting to see the behind the scenes part of it all just for a few minutes of footage.
*They did their competition on the AF base there and it was pretty cool.
*We were not allowed to take pictures for obvious reasons.
*You will be surprised on who the final 4 will be. I had the opportunity to see all 4 teams in action during a stop in Guam in Dec.
*IT was very interesting to see what goes behind the filming. It will be interesting to see what actually makes it on TV.
*They probably filmed for a couple of hours to get just a few minutes of final footage.

chevy info via foxburns:
Charla/Mirna were first with (again) a huge lead Eric/Danielle were next followed by...BQ's and...Cha Cha Chas's

Yeah, I think people say Roadblock for any TAR activity w/o knowing if it really is a Roadblock.  The only reason we know it is because the show tells us, or we see red instruction sheets.  I guess an onlooker could hear a team say "ROADBLOCK" but they would have to be at the right place at the right time.

Yeah, I think people say Roadblock for any TAR activity w/o knowing if it really is a Roadblock.  The only reason we know it is because the show tells us, or we see red instruction sheets.  I guess an onlooker could hear a team say "ROADBLOCK" but they would have to be at the right place at the right time.
..and we don't know if this is how they arrived at the Detours or finished OR if its even all true?
chevy info via foxburns:
Charla/Mirna were first with (again) a huge lead Eric/Danielle were next followed by...BQ's and...Cha Cha Chas's

ETA: If true then the X-Mas drop/C&M was the faster of the Detour options? Maybe Dustin just makes quick time of the RB, we know Danielle is having problems..I'll still go with the BQ's coming in first based on apskips info. A lot could happen too such as getting lost ( Oswald wonders if they are even going the right way ) or other car problems.

Sorry off topic

Now, based on the curve of her back are you able to tell us the time that the photo of Kandice sitting on the dirty old mans lap was taken?

I still can't believe all this time I was assuming that C/M had this awesome lead from Malaysia - Guam!

I wonder if there might be more then one part to the washing the plane detour. The christmas drop must take a lot of time due to flying somewhere, taking off, landing, etc....

I can get a solid time estimate from that Cha shot if we can find some more tourista shots of the location.

I need to be able to see the relationship between the opening that people walk through and the opening that people view through.

Do you think that the order of the confessionals at the end of the last episode gave away the order of the arrival at the pit stop in Guam:

1. Dustin & Kandice
2. Charla & Mirna
3. Eric & Danielle
4. Danny & Oswald - eliminated.

That also matches with the airport booking to Hawaii, with D/K booking first, C/M at a different counter, followed by Eric and Danielle. (thanks to apskips)

I understand from reading hakushu8's post that while we see the Cha's at the Asan Overlook clue box--this may not be the pitstop?
Which makes sense>>clue box==go somewhere else.

So what are we missing??

I have 3) quick thoughts...

1)  We haven't yet accounted for the Zero gravity -- plane fly faster comment.
The only plane we have seen so far is the Xmas delivery one which doesn't look like anything to do with zero gravity.
And I don't think you can get zero gravity in a helicopter.
I placed a Stratotanker at AAFB but I think it may be a little farfetched to think they are going to do the classic zero-gravity vomit comet--but what then?
Some sort of fast drop jet loop thing?
Pilots help me out here please!

2) Could the short helicopter ride at the Naval Base/Roadblock be something to do with our pallet hanging from the helicopter screencap? Maybe they have to lower it, swing on it, what ever?

3)  Could we go somewhere else to do something else?
I keep thinking of our slightly vague but there Magellan connection with this race, And the place where Magellan reportedly landed in Guam is called Umatac Bay--not all that far from  the Naval Station.

Other things that look cool to do: Swimming with the dolphins, Talafofo Falls and gondola ride, caving with prehistoric drawings, --but we have seen no evidence for any of that.

Hopefully Phil's preview will give us a bit more to go on!

I just read Apskip's post.. so D/K and E/D have the same flight to Hawaii, which departs 20 mins later than C/M's? But why is the other flight safer? Is it likely that C/M miss a tight connecting flight and that's where they stuff up, while D/K and E/D pass them??  :groan:

I don't think it would take much to do a weightlessness task in a KC-135.  Basically to get "weightlessness" the aircraft needs is to dive than climb, a parabolic flight path.  It would probably take longer to get to altitude than to do the actual task.
I also don't think they'd be doing loops in the stratotanker anytime soon....I think the air force would like their aircraft back in one piece  :js:

The only planes I can see them doing loops in are the fighters.

:ninja  ....sorry I just love this icon.

Thanks headcrusher! I did mean that from what I hear the zero gravity KC-135 is VERY expensive to have to offer potentially 4 separate times. So that's why I thought of a different jet thing doing loops--but would that give you a zero gravity feel or just more G's?  I come from a family of pilots--but my flying lessons were long ago and far away!

And red_sox--I got the idea it was all a comfort thing--nicer plane? more room? and that it didn't affect the flight arrivals all that much.

But that shot of Mirna looking at her watch at security makes me think there is some kind of delay.

Below is a diagram that describes the parabolic pattern that Headcrusher mentioned (source page about Stephen Hawking here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6594821.stm)). You may also see it described as a "zero-g pushover." Zero Gravity Corp., which claims to be the only commercial outfit licensed for this stuff, is going to operate out of Vegas of all places  (pdf press release here (http://gozerog.com/articles/03_05_2007.pdf)). BVM has a lot of friends in the Defense Dept. from his "Frontline" days; I doubt he went commercial or even paid full price for this ep.
My guess? Until more info rolls in, I'm thinking "zero gravity" is just CBS nonsense.

If the source and the other drivers knew each other (probably did) then I'm sure when they went to lunch afterwards that they talked.  Also, if the source was the first to enter the base with their team then that would let them know that their team was 1st.  Same with 2nd, 3rd, or 4th based on what position they were in when they entered base.  So if the last team to be picked up by a driver would be driver #4 as 3 other teams had used the 1st 3 drivers.

Chateau I've studied GE and many pictures until my eyes are blurry. It looks to me like when you are looking at the view you are facing due north. You come into the circle from the south end. But I'm sure you knew that already. FWIW, the overlook opens at 7 a.m. so that could also be the hours of operation (depending on your timestamp of course).

If the detour is first then all teams would be arriving at the AF base about the same time. Chevy's statement of C/M being way ahead would only make sense if they finished the detour first. As for the cleaning detour, it reminds of TAR 9 when they had to wash the trolleys in Moscow. That seemed to take alot longer than the teams expected. So if C/M do finish first then how could the BQ's be the first to arrive at the Roadblock? Something is either missing in between or????

I wouldn't put too much into the BQ's getting tickets first at NW because C/M could have easliy been earlier at the Continental counter.

It will be interesting to see if mrspreacher can come up with more team citings.

Well, puddin tried contacting the person who said C/M where ahead with a huge lead and never heard back...the sighting also could have been a route marker which C/M got to ahead of everybody else, but like always killed their lead..

Hi, red_sox. You are misreading what I wrote. The two flights 20 minutes apart are from Guam to Tokyo-Narita. Everybody is going to be on NW10 from Narita to Honolulu. It's possible that Charla and Mirna's NW81 could have some sort of trouble and arrive too late in Narita to make the connection, but I consider that very unlikely.

On the safer question, I believe that the teams on NW73 selected it for the extra comfort of a 747 aircraft. It is not a safety thing for sure, since their connect tiem in Narita is 20 minutes less than Charla/Mirna  due to the flight times being the same.

What I don't understand is why they would take a flight that would shorten their layover time by 20 minutes. The original flight was due to land at 6:40 pm; the flight they chose with the 747 at 7pm and the connecting flight leaves at 8:30 p.m. 1 1/2 hours seems like plenty of time but why risk it for a more comfortable plane? Have they not learned a thing! Jeez, and this is for the finish!!! Crazy kids.  :groan:

I can't see anyone calling a Boing 747 "a more comfortable" plane.  UNLESS, that is, you are travelling in Business or First Class. Economy or cattle class on a 747 is a crowded, knee crunching, 3-5-3 seating coffin.  Especially on a Northwest flight.  Believe me, I have been there, done that.

There is a shot of Dustin posted together with the other three teams doing the Roadblock (Charla, Danielle and Oswald) and it looks like in this shot Dustin is being strapped into some kind of equipment (not the vest that the other three are wearing while trapsing around with the GPS thing in their hands)  This looks very much like a military type  strapping her into a parachute harness.  If I remember correctly this was SOP if you were about to ride in an open-door helicopter on Guam. My cameraman and I had to don such equipement when we flew by chopper all over Guam.  Of course we were actually sitting on the edge of the door with our feet hanging over onto the landing skid!  So if things have not changed in 20 years, Dustin is about to take off on the chopper part of the Roadblock after completing the GPS part.

I was kind of wondering if they would helicopter them to somewhere first and drop them off -- then they would have to use the GPS to find their way back. That would be cool.

Maybe one team member is dropped off in the middle of a jungle/forest whatever (thanks for the suggestion supsandalee) while the other team mate waits at the end of the RB (possibly the pit stop?) and the one who was dropped off has to find the other team mate. That would explain why mrspreachers friend drove D/K to two separate locations.

gman, I've been thinking the same thing.  The seats width and pitch are basically the same for economy on both aircraft so there is no additional room for comfort.  As you stated, the middle seats in economy are the worst.  unless they were alluding the creature comforts such as IFE (in flight entertainment) but economy is economy so I can't see them being that much different.  now if the 747 was newly modified or a newly acquired airplane (however, I don't think NWA has bought any new airplanes lately - I work in the aircraft making business so I know a little something about this.  ;) ) then the the aircraft could give a feel of being more comfortable.  *shrug*   AND I agree with you on NWA. I'm not a fan.

Haha--no problem at all, I really don't mind the questions. My friend said they were the first to arrive to the naval base. I have no idea if they were the first to arrive on Guam, or how long they'd been here and what they did before they came to the naval base, but I know she said they were the first to get to the base and she was the first driver picked.

Colby, supsandalee, and Gman, your comments on the 747 are all accurate for COACH class. However, I have a suspicion that the discussion with the 747 captain involved an automatic upgrade if Eric and Danielle went on his plane and I'll also bet that it applied to Dustin/Kandice as well. I'm certain that pilots can work the system to accomplish that if they wish, particularly for celebrities.

Suds, that sounds like a very good possibility.  Perhaps the chopper hop comes first then the GPS gig. That could also explain the vest-type garment they all are wearing which actually could be some kind of flotation device you also have to wear in case you come down in the water.

Good chance that after AAFB DETOUR they must make their way to Nimintz hill (also the home of the islands commanding Admiral) and find the lookout point.  Then they must make their way to the Naval Station for the next clue which is the ROADBLOCK.  Also it looks like once on Guam they must drive themselves around the island in vans of some sort.  But need to have someone else drive them into, on and off both AAFB and the Navy Base.

Not to belabor the point, but there are photos posted by Puddin yesterday in a new Ep12 thread that clearly show one member of each team with a GPS thing-a-bob and wearing a military floatation device:

     Danielle
     Charla
     Oswald
     Dustin

So this must be the ROADBLOCK since one member of each team is performing the task.

To me it now looks like the team member must ride in a helicopter a short distance over the Naval Base to a jungle training area, and then find their way back to civilization where the other member of the team is waiting. There is a shot (also in the new thread) of two people running toward an open door helicopter.  This looks very much like the same type of chopper my cameraman and I flew in when we were in Guam (hanging out the door and filming the island below).

'My name for this task is "WHO IS A SURVIVOR?"

If Chateau  is able to give us some times on the Cha's at the Asan Overlook, I think we'll have a better idea of whether that clue was a "go to the Naval Station or AAFB and do"....or  a head towards the Pitstop kind of clue.

Does anyone else think that the Charla confessional looks to be a lot later in the day than the E/D and BQ's??

Maybe Charla caught a cloud? My first thought was that it looked later too. The teams have to get from the Pitstop point to get to the ticket counter and maybe even had to do a small task before? Just thinking outloud.

apskip wrote:

* First up was Dustin/Kandice, who booked NW 81 mid-afternoon to Narita and NW10 from there to Honolulu.
*Charla/Mirna actually booked the same flights through Continental's ticket counter.
*Last was Eric/Danielle, who had run into a NW 747 pilot who convinced them to take the 20 minute later NW73 to Narita to get the comfort of the 747. After Dustin and Kandice heard about this, they decided to change their booking to do the same. The connect time to NW10 was still quite adedquate. Their production crew of cameraman and soundman just barely made it through customs with their equipment to get on the later flight.

Thanks Peach.  I wasn't really checking my speed at the time.  It wasn't one of those white-knuckles kind of drives.  Just comfortable cruzin.   That's why I was rattled enough to mount a defense.  There was no way he could have made a sufficiently accurate measurement (pacing) of my speed and I was ready to prove it.

I've been working on the Cha shot.  It's kind blurry and curved so I don't get the accuracy I was hoping for.

This shot was taken between 11:15 am and 12:45 pm (assumes December 15th)

Puddin - the small task would have to be *REALLY* small (like last seasons go to the church that has been under construction for 100 years) because they have a lot to do in the finale and it's only one hour - so I don't think it would effect the order of arrival at the airport.

There's been some talk in the geocaching forums the last couple of days about the preview. Some think the unit is a Garmin GPSmap 60cx; some think it's a Garmin Rino (it looks more like a Rino (http://spln.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p1255391reg.jpg) to me). I also came across this kind of scary page (http://www8.garmin.com/products/rino/testimonial.html) containing testimonials from soldiers serving in the desert who bought gps units with their own money because the gov.-issue stuff was kludge.

What I am thinking about the start of this episode in Macau is that thet small task others have mentioned makes eminent sense. How about a visit to a fish market? What if the price on the sign we saw in the not-shown-in-actual-story screencap of the fish on the table were a currency in Portuguese?

The only downside to this is the delay to reaching the Hong Kong airport. That could separate the teams onto different flights and routes into Guam, with different arrival times(like 0100, 0205, 0230) if they cannot make the 0935 latest departure that will reach Narita in time to connect with CO7.

I am going to track down each route again and list them in another post.

HONG KONG TO GUAM FLIGHT OPTIONS - Updated

I have previously listed the 5 different flights from Hong Kong leaving at 0800 to 0940 that will make a connection with CO7 in Tokyo-Narita. CO7 departs at 1550 and arrives GUM 2025.

Connections have been checked via Saipan, Nagoya, Hanoi, Canton, and Taipei. Nothing works for a simple 2-flight connection and no 3-flight connection will be superior in arrival time(for a given departure range) to the times indicated below:

CONNECTING THROUGH NARITA

JL732 departs HKG 1450 arrives NRT 2000, connecting to JO981 departing NRT 2130 arriving GUM 0205
CX500 departs HKG 1500 arrives NRT 2025, connecting to JO981 as above.
NH910 departs HKG 1510 arrives NRT 2015, connecting to JO981 as above.

CX520 departs HKG 1030 arrives NRT 1600, connecting to either CO964 (departs 2025 arrives 0100) or NW 82 (departs 2030 arrives 0110) ro GUM
JL376 departs  HKG 1045 arrives NRT 1555, connecting to either CO964 or NW82 as above.

CONNECTING THROUGH MANILA

CX903 departs HKG 1630 arrives MNL 1835, connecting to CO934 departing MNL 2235 arriving GUM 0430
PR307 departs HKG 1800 arrives MNL 2000, connecting to CO934 as above.
5J119 departs HKG 1940 arrives MNL 1940, connecting to CO934 as above.

This is really 4 primary flights in at 2025, 0100/0110, 0205, and 0430. None of it is likely to matter with hours of operation on Guam. Any teams catching the first set of flights will get some rest on Guam. There may be a flight or two that I have missed. There were more when I checked them months ago, but they seem to have vanished.

Has anyone figured out the estimated pit arrival times in Macao?  This would give us some idea of departure times from Hong Kong and whether or not there was time for a task (find a landmark, etc.) before departure.

Looks like in anycase a case of Hours of Operation (or wait until the base opens at sunrise)

Gman to answer your question ...from our very own mswood (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,12078.0.html)   :kuss:

I am guessing (damn overcast.  Its official the producers really hate Chateau…) that the Dustin & Kandice could have arrived at the Pit Stop between 2:00pm to 2:30pm.  With Eric & Danielle about 15 minutes behind them, and then 15 more minutes for Charla & Mirna to check in 2cd place, another 15 for Eric & Danielle to check in, and I am guessing Oswald and Danny are significantly behind that.  Say an hour to an hour and a half.

1.  D & K 2:00-2:30
2.  C & M 2:30-3:00
3.  E & D 2:50 (I still swear I see 1:50 on his watch but that would be damn, damn fast or perhaps off by an hour.
4.  Oswald & Danny

If the teams all leave the pit stop in Macao between 2:00AM and 3:00AM they will have 12 hours or so to cool their heels at the Hong Kong airport if they arrange for one of the six flights or so that leave between 2:50 and 7:40.  So in this case they may have to go find some place in either Macao or Hong Kong begore going to the airport.

The other possiblity is that they make the earlier connections through NRT but still arrive in Guam in the wee hours of the morning.  In any case teams will be arriving in Guam between 1:00AM and 4:30AM so will bunch up at the gates of AAFB waiting for the armed guards to let them in (leave your messy backpacks at the gate please).

If all goes well, except for Danny and Oswald, the teams all should arrive at the pit stop in Guam in mid-afternoon.

Please educate me on the anatomy of the Amazing Race location arrow. I'm talking about this one from the Shipwreck Beach location. Are all arrows like that? Yellow background, red arrow, with a black outline on both? Can there be any variations?

See, I was driving around Agat a couple of hours ago. And lo and behold, what do I see at a random location (see below), but a red arrow with a yellow background?! I checked it out, it's different from that one in Hawai'i in that it didn't have the black outline. It's made from cardboard-like material, about 2 and 1/2 feet long and 1 feet high. It's tied to bridge ledge-type thing, and it's pointing towards the direction of the cemetery. There's a small creek beside it, by the way. And then the small cemetery leads to the beach. I'm very surprised that it's still there, if it's indeed from TAR, because it's been 4 and 1/2 months already.

Haha, I wanted to take it, but I asked a man walking by if I could, and he said I shouldn't be taking it because it might be from the Mayor's office. So I didn't. Man, I wish I wasn't so compulsive as to just head there without my camera. :groan:

Anyways, I'll take a picture of it tomorrow morning (or maybe just get it) if I could, which doesn't really help our investigations because it's gonna be Sunday evening there in the mainland by that time. ;D

I have tried to start the ball rolling at least twice, but no takers on filling in the blanks.  Looks like the TAR detectives are lost without on the scene witnesses.  We have enough now to make some valid guesses on what is going to happen tomorrow night.  This is no time to "be bored"; this is the time to really put your mental abilities to work.

Let's have some intelligent input, lads.

Since all confessionals are shot in the afternoon, and that all teams get to the airport:

It's tied to bridge ledge-type thing, and it's pointing towards the direction of the cemetery. There's a small creek beside it, by the way. And then the small cemetery leads to the beach. I'm very surprised that it's still there, if it's indeed from TAR, because it's been 4 and 1/2 months already.

Haha, I wanted to take it, but I asked a man walking by if I could, and he said I shouldn't be taking it because it might be from the Mayor's office. So I didn't. Man, I wish I wasn't so compulsive as to just head there without my camera. :groan:

Anyways, I'll take a picture of it tomorrow morning (or maybe just get it) if I could, which doesn't really help our investigations because it's gonna be Sunday evening there in the mainland by that time. ;D

We should be able to dig up an arrow picture somewhere hakushu? Unless they forgot to do so all the route markers are removed quickly as we heard they were TAR8 Niagra Falls.

Yeah, they are popular.

As to the spoilers concerning teams arriving at the airport the the next afternoon.

Quote
F3 teams booked their flights to Honolulu via Tokyo-Narita on the afternoon of Saturday Dec. 16.
We really can't make a real judgment on the arrival at the Pit Stop at the end of this leg.

After all Charla & Mirna are famous for using hotels (for internet) or travel agencies to book.

But we also with clips see Eric & Danielle try this on occasion as well.

The only team that really doesn't (or hasn't been shown at least) going to travel agencies is Dustin & Kandice unless directed to.

But I do feel that Eric & Danielle will actually be the last to arrive at the Pit Stop and are only saved by Oswald & Danny's penalty just to further give ammunition to those who feel that they are the most undeserving winners ever.  Just to personally spite me.

Let's have some intelligent input, lads.
I concur that Oswald & Danny are eliminated ..  :kissy:
With no times put on the confessionals Gman, we don't know the arrival scenario but have 2 choice based on the spoilers

1st Charla/Mirna
2nd Eric Danielle
3rd BQ's
last Chas  orrrrrrrr

1st BQ's
2nd C/M
3rd E/D
last Cha's orrrrrrrr

or its all ass backwards but the Cha's are eliminated any which way it goes.

I'm missing something here--why we would think C/M could be first? Unless we don't think Xmas drop is a detour and you are thinking they have to do a third something?

I think we may have a lot of time in airports again--this is a long flight for our guys...

And if the plane Xmas drop IS a detour it is definitely before the Roadblock based on Chateau's times, right?

So the only reason you think C/M could be first is foxburn's info? I gave up on that...

And I think the C/M confessional looks later in the day...

And I love how that girl is showing off that hill like on the Price is Right or something.

Well based on roving reporter apskip we can assume that this episode begins with a 24 hour Pit Stop from the end of the last leg.

Since all confessionals are shot in the afternoon, and that all teams get to the airport:

Quote
F3 teams booked their flights to Honolulu via Tokyo-Narita on the afternoon of Saturday Dec. 16.

Do we have time for a 24 hour pitstop?

I was thinking they left the Pitstop in the early morning hours--got to airport--HOO--and then booked tickets  in the morning for afternoon flights out.

Apskip--can you clarify  :please:

Yeah, well I am an idiot.  So we have a 12 hour Pit Stop since we have reports of teams arriving on the 14th but performing tasks on the 15th.  That means teams must start out beofre 5am or so, and either perform some tasks (Doubtful based on the history of the race's is last leg), or that I read the quote to literally and that they arrived in the morning (though starting that early does give credence to the fact that team's order could be changed dramatically by checking hotels for internet or phone to get tickets before heading to the airport) and that teamsflights left in the afternoon.

Let's just say that there is only a 12 hour pit stop. I have Dustin/Kandice leaving at abou 0200 to 0230 and reaching Hong Kong International no earlier than 5am if there is no task to perform first. With the departure of the flights to Narita in the 0800 to 0940 time frame, it cannot be a 24 hour pitstop. It's classic bunching with all teams level. Eveybody could wind up on CO7 out of NRT to GUM, arriving at 2025 (in the evening). If not, then they will catch up on later than 0430(last alternative flight in), as no Guam tasks appear to start before sunrise.

We're mixing oranges and apples now.  Speculation on when teams are leaving on the next leg, while we are still put leg 12 together.  I don't think we have a 24-hour pit stop at the end of leg 11 since we see Oswald and Danny opening the clue for leg 12 and it is pitch black out so probably in the early morning which is consistent with estimated pit stop arrival times in Macao.

Let's keep Leg 12 speculation here in this thread, and put speculation about flights to Japan-Honolulu-San Francisco in the other thread for Ep 13 which is below this one.

I did not understand why Ep. 11 stuff was doing in Ep. 12 when I reponded earlier. Well, the joke is on me because it really was an Ep. 12 question. Here is the answer:

The Guam pistop has to be 12 hours. Teams will arrive whenever, but nothing will happen before about 0600 Dec. 15 because that's first reasonable light on Guam (I should know; I was just there and on April 23 it was black at 0530 and at 0602 the sun came up quickly; this is typical of an island near the equator). Teams have to finish sometime after about 1700 because if they were at the pitstop sooner they would be able to make CO 2 nonstop to Honolulu departing 0600 Dec. 16 and arriving 1705 Dec. 15. We know that this does not happen. On release from the pitstop on the mornning of Dec. 16 on guam, teams may elect to make phone reservations or visit a travel agency, we don't know. They do show up at Guam International Airport for ticketing (and maybe for reservations) and for changing those tickets in the case of the "demanding blondes". D/K and E/D go to Northwest, appropriate since they are the carrier, and C/M for unknown reasons go to Continental.

NW 81 and NW71 leave at close to 4pm and arrive in Tokyo-Narita around 7pm (see my earlier popsts for specifics). NW10 leaves NRT 2030 and arrives HNL 0825 on Dec. 16. That leaves the entire day for Hawaiian tasks before teams need to be on planes for SFO by 10pm.

Oh G-man just ignore all of that! We started in EP 13 talking about flights Guam--Hawaii and then somehow (well it was the doggone middle of the night for some of us ) we ended up talking about HK-Guam flights, thoroughly confusing each other. And then thanks to puddins magical teleportation skills we ended up back where we started...

I blame it all on too many NRT changes!

So ignore the whole conversation--we'll figure it out later if we ever get un-confused! :rotf:

Guess "only the Chateau" knows for sure....

I don't know.  I suppose the confessional could have been filmed way down there.  but remember we have that car that goes along a roadway in one of the confessional shots.  I can't see any roadways in the area of that hill.  There are some assumptions going on here that should be kept in mind so that if they are wrong we can still hang on to valid contingencies.

1)  Cluebox cannot be at pit stop
2)  Location of confessional is the location of the pit stop
3)  Roadblock starts exactly at the cluebox
4)  Roadblock takes place at a single location
5)  Shadows are always caused by sunlight  ???

Here is a scenario that may work:

Teams are directed to the overlook at the War of Pacific Historical Park (this is the cluebox that we see the Chas at)
It directs them to the Navel Base.  They are driven onto the base and they read a clue there.
It's a Roadblock.
Team member who elects to do the Roadblock is driven to a special location.
The non-Roadblocker is driven someplace else.
Roadlock gets completed and both are driven off base.
The clue directs them to Asan Beach where they look for something like old Japanese gun emplacements
Or maybe it just says to look for the pit stop mat.

Why did I always think they were on a runway at AAFB running to the next task after completing the Xmas drop?

I like your scenario though.

Any chance of time estimates on the confessional shots? Apskip thinks it needs to be close to 5 or one team could have made a really early flight to Hawaii the next morning which didn't happen.

LOL oops, I always just say HOH for hours of operation for some odd reason.

wow puddin it;s like you read my mind, I was watching TV and thought MAYBE she thought C/M where the BQs...I guess she might have seen a picture of D/K though because mrspreachers friend seemed sure that DK were the first team to arrive (wouldn't she have just said "two women" if she didn't know for sure?)

I have news from an unimpeachable source:  at the end of the program tonight we will know who the final three are.

No sit back and enjoy the show.

Golf ended on time so the penultimate episode of TAR should start on time at 8:00PM Eastern Time.

Puddin:  how about Jeff Gordon!!!

I just got frustrated by Stewarts gaining ground losing ground, getting upfront, going to the back that I just couldn't take it anymore when he fell back to 20th for like the 8th time.

Looks like that is where he finished as well.

Sorry for delay, I had to go do service hours at the school.  Reason:  Because that is the ONLY place I could find that had a grassy strip between two paved areas.  A few other factors come into play such as having ocean in the back and the shadow angle has to be something 9 am to 3 pm.

About the times, I think we have enough.  Remember the driver reported that all was done for them by lunchtime or noon.  Can't find the original post.  The Danielle shot is noonish, the Chas shot at the overlook cluebox is noonish, the Chas confessional is around 1:20 pm.

You will get to see if it is true in just a few minutes!

So much for Chevy's "exclusive"!  Wonder what he was smoking.

But they did follow pretty much our scenario.  Great going guys.

Shot of Oswald and Danny at the clue box at the lookout on Nimitz hill never made it into the final cut.

Thats how they arrived at AAFB Gman..I think  ???

hey, i posted the spoiler at sucks. I got the link from puddin at this forum and i pm'd this chevy character and he replied to me with this information:

Charla/Mirna were first with (again) a huge lead
Eric/Danielle were next followed by...
BQ's and...
Cha Cha Chas's (still in it in guam apparently)

Thanks for the link puddin...if he gets back to you post what he says, it may go to his credibility

Yay! I know the pit stop greeter.  :lol3:

I've gone to Fort Soledad two Saturdays ago... with the picture of Oswald/Danny's confessional in my hands... but I didn't think it was there! :groan:

I think teams were supposed to go to the Asan Bay Overlook first before the US Naval Base. I noticed that the Naval Base clue was not in any of the same frames as the team when they were in AAFB.

You know the greeter? How/why did she get chosen?

I was so sorry they didn't show the Asan Overlook but....

I just saw D/O on TES. Oswald said that there was a routemarker at an "Overlook" between the Detour and the Roadblock. They apparently had trouble finding the Overlook, which made them later to the Roadblock, which they felt contributed to their loss.

When asked why they were wishing for Ch/M for the win?? Oswald said it was because he regretted the "Teletubby" comment!

Yer, peach. I think I saw some shots of one of the teams (probably the Chas) heading up to the Asan Bay Overlook via Route 6 (Nimitz Hill Road, not sure if it's called that but that's where the Overlook is).

Looked at the tape of Ep 12 again and the teams probably did go to the Asan Bay Overlook to pickup the clue sending them to the Naval Base Guam.  When the teams pick up the clue after the detour at AAFB, you never actually see the teams looking at the clue - editors go to a close up of the actual clue with the teams saying what the clue reads only in a voice over which could have been post-recorded.  Probably had too much footage at AAFB and NBG and used up all the time on these two sites.  We jut lost some nice visuals of Guam, but nothing affecting the race outcome.

Makes me wonder how often there have been unshown clue fetches in all the previous seasons.  I think it is a smart production trick to use.  For making the show more interesting to casual viewers.  I just wish there was a published record of actual activities.  But then we would be out of business.

How did you figure that out Slowhatch?  :jam:

chevy  (http://www.outsports.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=37265&view=findpost&p=326377) speaks...
ok....here is my take on the episode shown tonight. I was there in Guam at the time of filming and got to watch all 4 teams compete. The day before the teams arrived, the buzz around Andersen was that the Amazing Race teams were going to be on base. How exciting since I am a huge fan. So, I show up at work around 730. We (my coworkers and I) got to watch the teams arrive with their escorts. 3 teams peeled off and did the engine wash and Myrna and Charla did the care package. We watched them throw the stuff in the box. We had the benefit of a Dept of Defense Public Affairs officer give us the entire lowdown on the events. If you see them underneath the canopy, my coworkers were just out of camera range. It was pretty interesting watching them. I would guess it only took them 10 mins or so to build the package. As you can tell from the footage, they actually didn't load the package onto the aircraft. In fact, the package they did build was broken down and re-done by the military unit after the filming stopped. After the team put the stuff in the box, the team was escorted down to a bus and taken to the aircraft. The bus stopped near the plane and they ran towards the plane. After the plane took off, I went down and watched the other 3 teams wash the engines. It was interesting to see the teams in those yellow suits. We got to watch the BQs run by us, followed shortly by Danielle and Eric (he waved to us), and finally by O/D. It was a good 20 or 30 minutes before the C-17 landed and Charla/Myrna left the airplane (back on the bus for the short ride back to their awaiting vehicle). I was sure that they would be eliminated since it took far longer for their detour. The public affairs officer only told us that they were headed down to the Navy base and would be doing something with helicoptors. Overall, it was interesting to see what was actually filmed and edited. A note about the aircraft footage. There were some cutaways to show a B-52 and a C-5. There wasn't even an active B-52 or a C-5 at the time they were filming. Strange they included those planes in tonight's episode. I am rooting for Danielle and Eric win but wouldn't mind if the BQs won either. Myrna and Charla are on my last nerve with their "accent of the week".

The old-fashioned way.  Remember a few months ago I posted the notice about WRP looking for a secretary in El Segundo? It got me curious, because I only remembered the MDR office. After a bit of searching, I found 200 N. Continental Blvd., the China Airlines building. Since it's only a few blocks away from Fry's (local geek store), I decided to pay a visit. It turns out that the ES office is much bigger than the MDR diggs. China Air and WRP are the only tenants, and WRP seems to command the lion's share of parking spaces. Judging from appearances (the guard stopped me before I reached the front door), the "shirt-sleeve" work is done at MDR and the "front-office" work is done at ES.

Now this is more like it. When the pilot reprograms Dustin's Rino, you can see coordinates that match Oronte point, and a date--13 Dec 06--and a time (could be 15:37, but it's a bit fuzzy; I'll look for more examples).

Very funny  ;). Seriously, though, BVM & Co. are moving on; google "profiles television production" and you can see they're hiring in El Segundo (and elsewhere) as well as looking for contestants for Oprah's new philanthropy show.
Back to the Garmins. All four showed the pilots at the same place. And the LZ coordinates I got off of Dustin's Garmin. The photo below (kmz attached) shows the locations; the two points are about 680 crow-flight yards apart.

More editing nonsense. When the first two teams arrive in Narita, the BQs say something like, "we need to get a boarding pass." Then it cuts to a counter scene showing a passport: Jimenez 7781 (last 4 SSN?). Dirty pirate thieves!  When D/O finally arrive, their passports have been magically returned to them.
