PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: Teams left Maputo for Zanzibar off the coast of Africa. At the airport, Charla/Mirna took a well calculated risk and surged ahead of everyone else. Eric/Danielle got pulled off their plane when the airline overbooked their flight. They were left behind with Teri/Ian and the Guidos. Danny/Oswald caught up with Charla/Mirna, but Charla/Mirna came in first for the second time in a row.
Sixteen hours later, the Guidos edged Teri/Ian, who were eliminated.
Six teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Phil: Zanzibar's Old Fort, the sixth pitstop in a Race around the world. After falling more than 1/2 day behind, can Joe/Bill stay in the playing field?
4:20 am, Chirla/Mirna, CLUE.
Make your way to Warsaw.
Find this palace, Chopin's boyhood home, for the next Clue.
Teams are booked on a flight scheduled to arrive in the next morning 11:25 am, although they are not obligated to keep those tickets.
Danny/Oswald, 4:28 am.
After a confessional in which they eschew alliances of any kind, they agree to head to the airport with Charla/Mirna for a better flight.
Uchenna/Joyce, 7:55 am.
Dustin/Kandice, 8:00 am.
One blonde, Conf: We're gonna get to see Chopin play piano!
Other blonde: He's dead.
U/J go to South African Airways and (yes, they're right about African time) they wonder whether the agents will open the office on time.
So Uchenna gets on the phone to a travel agent.
D/K go to a travel agent.
Chrla/Mirna are already there.
The woman writes Uchenna's name in front of Dustin/Kandice.
D or K: Hang the phone up!
Uchenna: This is a competition.
Mirna: Say bye-bye!

Hours later, C/M and D/O are still negotiating fligh ttimes.
Uchenna gets a flight which goes through Frankfurt, arriving Warsaw at 9:10, same time as D/K.
Departing the pitstop. Eric/Danielle, 3:15 pm.
Danielle doesn't know where Warsaw is.
The agent offers D/O a ticket arriving in Warsaw at 5 pm. Bwah!
Uchenna/Joyce take off on the first leg of their flight, and they'll leave Africa out of Joburg.
Eric/Danielle are shocked to see Charla/Mirna still in the travel agency.
Danny: Seven long hours.
Eric/Danielle argue. Is there a travel agent closer? Maybe they'll go? Stay? Shaddap, you're stupid, no you're stupid ...
Eric/Danielle find another travel agent.
Eric: Anything earlier (than the ticket they already have)?
Man: All full.
4:00 pm, C/M and D/O leave Zanzibar, and will fly through Nairobi and Amsterdam. Eric/Danielle still pissed at each other.
Departing 7:01 pm, Joe/Bill.

Guidos are happy to see Eric/Danielle in the airport.
It's now dark.
Eric/Danielle aren't happy at all.
They leave at 7:55 pm, flying through Kilimanjaro Airport (Arusha/Moshi) and Amsterdam.
In Kilimanjaro Airport, they are delayed just enough to watch their jet close the gate. (And there's only 1, maybe 2 flights a day to Amsterdam from there ... ouch!)
Joe: You radio that plane! We have tickets!
Danielle: Are you kidding me?
Agent: Not possible.
Danielle: Why is it not possible?!?
Eric: We're gonna be stuck here for god knows how long.
Bill (or is it Joe?) runs out onto the tarmac, as if he can stop the plane.

I just want to say that my predictions of a window of 4:3opm to 7:00am were the closest I have ever guessed and pretty close for all the racers.

The two teams decide to leave for a hotel, despite the fact that the Guidos don't trust E/D not to leave them behind.
THey agree on a 4:30 wakeup call.
Frankfurt.
Uchenna/Joyce get the word - they have to go to a transfer desk of Lufthansa.
Man: I suggest you go to the gate directly.
(It's boarding!)
Uchenna to agent: Our flight leaves in 15 minutes.
Man: You cannot make it.
Joyce: Can we please get on??
U conf: We got yanked off the flight.
Morning.
E/D will fly out of Arusha to Mombasa and Frankfurt.
Guidos have the same flight.
Knights in shining armor await at the palace of Chopin's statue.

C/M and D/O are the second plane to arrive, apparently as D/K's taxi takes them to Chopin's ghost playing on the lawn.
CLUE: DETOUR.
Perfect angle, or perfect pitch?
Phil: Tasks related to a 19th century composer, and Marie Curie.
Perfect pitch, make your way 3/4 mile to a palace, tune one key of a keyboard perfectly, for the concert pianist to play a tune.
Perfect Angle: Pick up a mannequin at a boutique, use an x-ray machine to locate a clue inside the mannequin, which is a destination that they'll read on the x-ray machine. Has to be read at the perfect angle.

C/M's taxi driver drops them at a church instead of the palace, then takes off.
Nobody wants to give them directions.
The piano player sounds good, now that D/K are done.
D/K, CLUE: Jan Sobieski Lazensky.
Phil: They have to figure that the clue is about this Monument.
C/M enter a building where they are given the cold shoulder.
Mirna: Do you know how to speak?
They go back outside.
Danny/OSwald's cab takes them past Mirna/Charla, standing with a finger in the air.
Oswald/Danny pick tuning a piano.
C/M try another building, and finally get directions from the concierge.
D/K, CLUE: Make your way to the next pitstop on the grounds. Last team to arrive may be eliminated.
Man: Welcome to Poland.
Phil: Dustin/Kandice, you are team #1.
Both: WHEW!
Phil: Some good news. You've won a trip for 2 to Puerto Rico.

Danny sits down to play Chopsticks on the piano.

C/M arrive at the DETOUR.
Mirna: Perfect ANGEL, or Perfect Pitch.
Charla: Angle.
Attempting to tune the key, D/O destroy the piano string!
U/J go into some building.
At every turn, Joyce hears pianos.
Some guy comes at them with a violin.
Their cabbie took them to the Music School!
Charla/Mirna find the piano and try to tune the keys.
Tink, tink ... Horrid!
U/J finally get directions from someone who speaks good English.
For some unknown reason they get back in the same cab.
D/O and C/M are incompetent at tuning keys.
C/M's pianist quits.
Mirna: It was pretty good.
Pianist: Not good.
Mirna: We keep trying.
U/J get the DETOUR clue.
Joyce also says "Perfect ANGEL."
They'll tune a piano.
U: We have no idea where the other teams are. We haven't seen another team for 24 hours.
Charla: Oh! They broke a string!
Oswald contemplates giving up on the pianos.
Charla contemplates the same thing.
Mirna: We've been doing it for an hour.
Danny: Ay, Dios Mio!

He sees them and laughs.

Oswald: This is a CLUE?
Conf: And the pianist was nice to look at, too.
C/M give up at piano tuning, and decide to attempt the other Detour.
U/J arrive just after Charla/Mirna leave.
Joyce conf: I used to play the piano. I know where Middle C is.
(Yes and ... ??)
Charla/Mirna are frustrated, but find La Scada where their mannequins await.
They will transport it to the laboratory.
Charla: They don't have any women mannequins?
Charla and Mirna are carrying a mannequin around the streets of Warsaw, but can't get any directions.
Finally they drop it on the ground and take a seat.
Phil: Oswald/Danny, you're team #2.
Both hug.
Mirna: Does anyone speak English?
They find a woman.
It's getting dark. Shadows are long across the streets.
Parts of the mannequin fall off as they walk him toward the lab.
Charla: You're supposed to cover his private parts.
Piano tuned, Uchenna and Joyce get their CLUE.
They're still with the same cabbie.
Charla/Mirna find scissors and all sort of stuff in the mannequin. They haven't found the right angle.
Phil: Uchenna/Joyce, you're team #3.
U: WHOA! For real?
Phil: For real.
Joyce looks shocked.

Travel to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp.
Phil: Where over 1 million people were killed in genocide.
First, they have to find tickets to charter buses scheduled hours apart.
And you know for not being a TBC this was a great idea with the time spread to have these episodes on the same night.
Dustin/Kandice at about 11:00 pm find out the first bus leaves at 1:00 pm.
Finally having arrived in the right city, E/D and Guidos cabs racing through the streets of Warsaw.
Eric: We'll just have to duke it out.
Bill, to cabbie: Go! Go! GO!!

Conf: Tensions are high. Figuring out how to do this. You can't make up 10, 12, 14 hours. You can only play the hand you're dealt. In the first Amazing Race, we got far behind and never made it up.

There are two airports on either side of ARUSHA. One is ARK, the small airport pictured in your post. The other is JRO, Kilimanjaro International Airport, which wasn't there when I was a travel agent (and may not have been there when you last traveled in that area) since it was built in the late 1990s. JRO is modern and beautiful from what I understand from my research.

All flights in Africa and to Europe were on Tuesday Dec. 5 except for the one taken by E/D and J/B out of JRO. All Europe flights were on Wed. Dec. 6.

I have some very interesting flight information that indicts the travel agent who did the flight arrangements for Eric and Danielle out of Zanzibar. The Guidos had no choice given their "get to the airport ASAP and take anything" mode but to copy what Eric and Danielle were doing. What those teams actually did was to fly to Kilimanjaro International Airort (JRO) onTC7909 departed ZNZ 1955 arriving JRO 2045. What they were attempting to do at JRO was make a 10 minute connection to KL571 for Amsterdam. Any travel agent knows that a minimum bookable connection is much longer than 10 minutes anywhere in the world, so that was an illegal connection to start with. I am totally unsurprised that the KLM airplane captain was not interested in compromising his schedule to accomodate the 4 travellers on that basis.
The really strange thing is that KL571 was travelling first to Dar-es-Salaam before going to AMS and it was not departing for AMS until 2305. There was a Precision Air flight from ZNZ PW451 departing 2120 arriving DAR 2140 that would have been an easy and legal connection. It looks to me that the travel agent cost them big-time, as KL571 arrived AMS at 0710 and might have gotten them on the same connecting flight to WAW as C/M and O/D departing at 0740 arriving 0940. The next later flight was KL1363 departing AMS at 0915 arriving WAW 1110, which still would have been a huge improvement over what actually happened to them.

Question regarding Eric & the Sausage Eating - Knowing that the Guido's couldn't leave until he & D had finished, & knowing that D sometimes gets a little flustered, does anyone else think that maybe Eric PURPOSELY ate at the EXACT pace as D. (To prevent her from feeling pressure - from Guido or anyone else). :hyper:

Not risky puddin. Neither Eric or the Guidos could leave until D had finished HER sausage.
Only reason i brought it up was that it was inferred in videos that either: Eric was being slow on purpose to screw over the Guidos....or Eric was a lightweight who couldn't even eat as fast as D. (Also he is being skewered on other crap boards.)
My point was that he was being NICE to D (& smart for his team) to NOT have D munching alone on Sausage after the other 7 people had long since finished. (He ate at the same pace as her, much like a good skier would slow down for an average skier.)
