No, I'm sure CTV will find away around that, maybe airing the second part Monday night or at 7PM and moving desperate housewives. Who knows.

From Sucks:
PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: Teams raced from Ushuia to Maputo. Eric/Danielle sparred with Joe/Bill. "Peace! Peace!" "Freaks! Freaks!" Teams got chummy with a rat, and Charla/Mirna fell into last place. Teams got lost, and some endured a messy Detour. Charla/Mirna surged back ahead and arrived 1st at the Pitstop. Uchenna/Joyce got lost in the streets of Maputo (Joyce: I don't see the numbers!) but were spared elimination.
Seven teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?
-

-
Phil: This is Maputo, resting on the southeastern coast of Africa. The Fortaleza in this influential port city was the 5th pitstop in a Race around the world.
Charla/Mirna, 9:07 pm.
CLUE, Fly to Dar Es Salaam, TZ.
Phil: Nearly 1,400 miles to the largest city in Tanzania. When they land, they'll travel to a ferry terminal and pull a number for a dhow ride to Zanzibar.
-
i hope you capped danny/oswald confenstion there puddin

Mirna's been curling her hair again!
Uh0oh--what we calling a taxi on the way to the Pitstop for E/D isn't! Taxi from the fort! Oh, no!
-
C/M conf: We want to prove that our 1st place finish wasn't just a quirk!
D/K, 9:47 pm.
Conf: We haven't been 1st yet, but this might be our leg.
They joke about Mirna's "too hot to handle" shirt.
Teri/Ian, 10:13 am.
Ian conf: If I'm gruff, I'm gruff. I make no apologies about it.
Danny/Oswald, 10:18 pm.
Conf: The stress of the Race is getting to people. It's important to stay grounded, and have fun.
Joe/Bill, 10:32 pm.
Conf: Major mood shift as the competitive Race gets smaller. Can't trust ANYONE!
Eric/Danielle, 10:33 pm.
D conf: We're both forming opinions about each other.
E: That's where the Tanzanian devil lives!
U/J, 10:36 pm.
Okay why is the drop out better with geography then the current college student...
-
Charla/Mirna's taxi gets them to the airport. They're wondering if ANYone is still up at this hour.
Woman: Tomorrow, a flight to Dar. We open 5:00 am.
They beg the woman to hook them up now, but she defers until the morning.
Mirna picks up the phone on her desk.
She protests.
Charla and Mirna have a ridiculous accent talking with the woman.
Dustin/Kandice try the "honey" approach and don't have much success with the woman, either.
Teri/Ian decide to bed down in the airport.
Teri: Why?
Ian: Where will we go?
Teri: The hotel!
Ian: But traffic will be horrendous.
Teri: But it's only 11:00.
Ian: You want to be in the back of the line, or be inconvenienced?
Teri: I cannot believe we're gonna stay here.
T conf: Ian is opinionated, black and white, nothing inbetween.
Ian: I'll try to explain it to you one more time. I don't want to be 7th in line to wait for tickets.
-
..OMG we are so stupid!! C/M's confessional was from Tonights show :groan:

MORNING.
Teri: I can't stay here another day.
Charla: Maybe they have a flight to Miami?
Man: The Dar flight is full.
Teri: Can I get Standby?
The other teams appear equally screwed.
Mirna finds a 7:00 flight out of Maputo to Joburg, but they decide they will take the risk to get on standby for the connection, which is totally sold out.
Other teams weigh the options.
Joe/Bill are suspicious of whether Charla/Mirna's move is smart.
Mirna/Charla get on teh flight, as the onl yteam.
Woman: None of you will get on the 8:30 flight to Dar. I suggest you try SA Air 9:45 am.
Ian is disgusted.
The teams line up.
Joe/Bill: So now Mirna and Shmirna look like geniuses.
In Joburg, Mirna makes friends with "Christo."
Christo gets down to Charla's level.
Mirna and he hold hands.
Mirna: Please! You're working overtime for us!
Charla: We're religious people, but that was a little awkward, holding hands ...
Charla/Mirna get tix and hug the ticket agent, and Christo.
-
The other 6 teams get in line at South African Air.
Eric/Danielle and a couple of others try to make friends in the SAAir office.
Joe/Bill just wait.
Ian stands in line impatiently.
Man: I can sell you the tickets. Air Tanzania, 13:15 departure , arrive Dar 18:30.
Looking at D/K, U/J .... "No more space." All of you are on the Standby list.
-
arghhh I can't beleive we overlooked that

-
9:55, Charla/Mirna leave Joburg for Dar.
11:45 am, Joburg sees the other six teams on standby for Dar.
Chaos at the ticket agent.
Oswald/Danny get tix. They celebrate.
Uchenna/Joyce, Dustin/Kandice, Eric/Danielle, get tix.
Teri/Ian and Joe/Bill are SOL.
Man: Sorry, I wish I could accommodate everybody.
-
An hour an a half time difference! :groan: :groan: :groan:
-
Eric: I expect somebody to pull us out of here.
Man: Where are Eric and Danielle?
Teams: They got on.
Man: Eric/Danielle, there has been a mistake. You must get off the plane.
Eric: Will anybody give up their seats for $50 cash, right now?
No takers ...
Eric/Danielle get off the plane, stuck in the Joburg jetway.
COMMERCIAL.

OMG! Not a flight till the NEXT DAY! I'd be crying too!
HAH! the boat is late too and I feel some seasickness coming on!

Joburg Airport.
Eric/Danielle watch the plane leave as they are escorted to an evening flight.
E tries to calm D.
E: Just relax. Let's see what he can do for us.
Man: I have flights with SAA tomorrow.
Danielle is pissed.
Man: I've put your names on Standby.
Teri: Can you help us?
Ian to man: You're just going to abandon us?
Man: Standby for 9:55 tomorrow.
Teri: Another night in an airport?!?
2:52 pm, Charla/Mirna arrive in Dar as I start to cry, because I want to go there this summer!
In Joburg, three teams alternately celebrate and bemoan their common fates.
FORODHANI! (Dock in Swahili) Yes, Swahili!
Charla/Mirna get boat #1, "tomorrow 5:30 am."
Charla: That's a long, long time.
Man: There's a storm coming.
Dar Int'l Airport, nightfall.
Dustin/Kandice, Danny/Oswald, Uchenna/Joyce arrive.
They reach the ferry area, and race for the tokens.
Man: Second dhow leaves 8:30 am.
-
Swahili
Where they hell is Jeremy now! He speaks some supposedily.
-
D/O get the other 5:00 departure, and D/K and U/J get 8:30.
At about 5 am, D/O pretend that they're cruising each other and Mirna/Charla.
5:30 am, Dhow leaves for Zanzibar, at daybreak.
Beautiful.
The three teams still in Joburg form a line at an empty ticket counter.
Uchenna on the 8:30 dhow, correctly reminds everyone that the slave trade used dhows just like that, to ferry slaves out of Africa.
Man in Joburg: Only TWO on standby. Eric/Danielle, I can check you in.
Teri: I can't believe this. Definitely no more seats?
Man shakes head, no.
Teri: Just get me out of here.
Ian: Maybe there'll be more.
No more.
Joe/Bill: We'll be stuck here for God knows how long!
E/D's plane leaves.
Teri/Ian and Guidos still in Joburg.

  phil is holding jeff's torch snuffer for survivor: zanzibar :lol3:
-
Ian: Is there any other airline today?
Man: Air Malawi, at Noon.
Both teams head for that ticket counter.
On the 1st dhow, Charla hurls over the side of the boat.
Danny/Oswald give her a cold compress.
Charla: Much better! Thank you!
Mirna: Charla and I were together all day, so it was nice to have other companions with us.
Finally Joe/Bill/Teri/Ian leave Joburg on Air Malawi.
Charla/Mirna and D/O reach Zanzibar.
CLUE: Solve it, or Schlepp it?
Phil: Solve it, 1/3 mile to a hotel, put together a 62 piece puzzle recreating a local style.
Schlep it, 1 mile to Kijagwani lumber yard, load 2 x 50 pound logs which are used to make Dhows. Deliver to the shipyard for the next Clue.
Both teams decide to do Solve.
Charla, seeing the little fishy pieces: Are you KIDDING ME?! This is gonna be tough!
Danny/Oswald and Charla/Mirna are in sight of each other, basically competing.
2nd dhow, Uchenna: My great grandfather was a pirate!
Joking, D/K: You're going home, buddy!
Mirna conf: Wer'e both very driven people.
M to C: Pick up the pace! Come on, Charla! Don't stop!
Danny/Oswald: FINISHED! CLUE: Make your way to Kikungwi.
Phil: Home to members of the Maasai tribe, on the island of Zanzibar.
-

-
D/O stop at a fruit market.
(Apt much?)
Mirna/Charla ask their driver to go faster.
CLUE, C/M: Who's on target?
Phil: ROADBLOCK.
They must use a traditional wooden weapon called a Rungu. Throw it 65 feet, destroy a clay target for the next clue.
C/M notice that D/O aren't at the site yet.
They also marvel at the jumping ability of the Maasai warriors.
Mirna tosses the rungu, and misses by miles.
Danny/Oswald next to arrive.
Seeing C/M: Ay, Dios Mio!
Oswald to Danny: Mira! Alto! Mas! Asi!
Finally Mirna hits the target and does a cartwheel!
CLUE: Make your way to the next Pitstop.
Phil: Old Fort in Zanzibar's stone town. Last team to check in may be eliminated.

Oswald: She must have been praying to her grandmother and grandfather!
Danny hits.
D/O get the CLUE and head to the pitstop.
Mirna: We're looking for Philly.
Charla: MISTER PHIL TO YOU!
Mirna walks into a bathroom looking for Phil.
Man wearing hat: Welcome to Zanzibar.
Mirna: Asante!
Phil: Charla/Mirna, you're team #1. Two in a row! Too hot to handle! You've won a 12 1/2 foot Catamaran.
Both: What's that?
Phil: A sailing boat.
Phil: Oswald/Danny, you are team #2.

Chateau now wonder we couldn't find C/M's confessional spot in Maputo
-
U/J decide to do the puzzle.
What?! D/K want to haul 50 pound logs?
Actually it was easier than it looked.
Joe/Bill and Teri/Ian finally make it on the plane headed to Dar.
Confessionals: Gonna race until the bitter end.
I love the way they paint slogans on the dhows, the way Matatu owners paint slogans on their vans.
Eric/Danielle want the dhow to leave like right friggin' now.
U/J finish the puzzle in 3rd.
D/K finish the log hauling in 4th.
Eric/Danielle take the long dhow ride to Zanzibar.
The final plane arrives in Dar with Teri/Ian and Joe/Bill.
-
Guidos and Teri/Ian get into their respective cabs.
Ian: This is it. Just us two teams. One of us goes home. This is the end for one of us.

Joe/Bill reach the Forodhani (dock) seconds ahead of Teri/Ian.
Man: Leaves at 8:00.
Ian: Dammit!
At dusk, Uchenna "this is cool!" starts the Rungu challenge.
D/K haven't arrived yet.
Darkness falls, he's still tossing.
He hits the target and imitates Maasai jumping. Whee!
A group of Maasai jump with Uchenna.
Uchenna conf: This is a dream come true!
Eric/Danielle reach the Detour.
Phil: Uchenna/Joyce, you're the 3rd team to arrive. You have to wait 30 minutes before I can check you in.
D/K hit the target and leave.
E/D finish the puzzle and head for the Rungu toss.

Phil: Uchenna/Joyce, you are team #3.
Uchenna: YEAH!
In the night, Guidos and Teri/Ian set off for Zanzibar.
Phil: Dustin/Kandice, you are team #4.
Danielle clips the mask and gets credit for breaking it.
Ian conf: Guidos are great people but we don't want to get eliminated.
Phil: Eric/Danielle, you are team #5.
-
Teri/Ian and Guidos both choose to do the puzzle.
Guido conf: We did what they did, so there was no chance of them getting away.
Both teams feverishly try to solve the puzzle.
Ian is getting frustrated.
Guidos are working better as a team.
Teri: Go around with this yellow.
Ian: They're painted on both sides, you realize that, don't you??
Guidos finish.
Ian: Wow. You guys are good.

Actually a little surprised that Uchenna & Joyce made up enough time over Dustin & Kandice to survive the 30 minutes without losing a place, will be curious for final check in times.
-
Teri/Ian finally finish their puzzle.
Guidos cab has a substantial lead.
Ian: Catch-up time.
It's morning now.
Rungu toss in the morning.
Teri: Maybe somebody will get stuck at the Roadblock?
Ian: The "somebody" can only be the Guidos.
Teri: There's always a chance.
Guidos break the mask and head for the pitstop.
Seconds later, Teri/Ian arrive at the cluebox and Ian will toss the Rungu.
Teri: You can do this!
Second toss, Ian gets it.
They head for the pitstop.
Stuck in traffic, Guidos get tense.
Ian: We're not gonna throw in the towel until Phil says we're eliminated.
-
Preview Preview Preview--we need a GOOD one!
Fingers crossed....

old fort...
Did i have the wrong fort :lol3:?
-
Teams race to find the Fort entrance.
Phil: Joe/Bill, you are team #6.
Both sigh.
Teri: Phil, we're coming!
Ian: We're coming!
Phil: Teri/Ian, you are the last team to arrive. Sorry to tell you, you have been eliminated from the Race.
Teri: I'm sorry to be eliminated.
Ian: But we're going home to a great life.
Teri: Twenty-five years of a great life. Ian loves me like no one else can.
Ian: I wouldn't want to be in life without her.
-
NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: Danielle loses patience with Eric.
Arguing, talking over each other.
D: Grow up!
Phil: Charla suits up to take on a formidable foe.
Charla trundles around in knight's garb, then gets tossed off a horse.
-
Knights? Wooded forest? Toto--I don't think we are in Tanzania any more! Poland or another Eastern Europe country? Looked like the Grimm Brothers to me--where are they from???
Where is G-Man??
-
Did I say thank you mswood ? :thankyou: :hearts:
-
I cannot believe the time difference between the teams. I read somewhere that Phil mentioned that at one point there was a strech of more than 15 hours between racers. That ones where checking in as others where checking in. Can this be the case??
On another note, did you see his face when Erick and Daniel were at the pitstop. He looked as if he just woke up. jaja.

I noticed that too. The Zanzibar native wasn't there to greet them. Poor Phil.

Just got back from work. Well, wrong again ; congrats to Apskip and Puddin for sussing out the long dhow ride. I'm checking the weather underground for anything that might have held up the boats. So everyone's agreed that the fort is our "grassy area"?

SLOWHATCH, I wouldn't bother checking the weather. What you saw was a producer-invented strategic delay to make sure that what happened in Thailand in AR1 did not happen in Tanzania in AR11. There was no really bad weather. They just wanted to slow down Charla/Mirna and Oswald/Danny so that did not get too far ahead(and I incorrectly said in another post earlier today that they don't do this except with airplane flights or boarding). They are almost 24 hours ahead of Joe/Bill right now, but only about 12 hours ahead of Eric/Danielle as best I can figure it.

PEACH, the second hour of next week's episodes is going to be POLAND. However, the first week is still unknown. I think there may be a task or two in Zanzibar City before leaving for Nairobi. Then I expect a pitstop in Nairobi which may be TBC or NEL. Then on to Warsaw.
-
Oh--NEXT week is the double feature--thanks!
You don't think Nairobi is too touristy? I've spent quite a bit of time there and it is very much a crossroads with loads of expats--I just think it would make our teams way too visible for TPTB this season, since they have really seemed to try to go to out of the way, less touristy places so far to keep our guys a little less visible.
I can see them flying out of here or Dar though...
-
An hour an a half time difference! :groan: :groan: :groan:
Peach, no big deal but it's 10 mins short of 2 hours.
9:55, Charla/Mirna leave Joburg for Dar.
11:45 am, Joburg sees the other six teams on standby for Dar.
-
Here's something from The Early Show: Teri stated that they finished at the pitstop just 2 to 3 minutes behind Joe/Bill. Their time lost at the puzzle was almost made up by Joe/Bill getting lost at the Old Fort finding the correct entrance.
Teri also made the statement that it was bad luck with the airlines in Johannesburg that caused them to be eliminated. I will just point out that the 4 teams that snuck upstairs and worked the South African Airways(or was it Air Tanzania?; it's a code share flight) office all got converted into seats because they had earlier times on the standby list while Ian/Teri and Joe/Bill who stayed at the gate did not get into the standby list until later and didn't get high enough priority. So much for LUCK.
Also, guess who showed up as the last guests on Regis and Kelly this morning? DAVID and MARY! I didn't see it as I was viewing my tape of The Early Show, but they were on last after Borat, who did fabulous schtick with Regis on the street in Manhattan.
-
I have due to the fine efforts of another forum discovered the mileage from Zanzibar Town to Kikungwe where the rungu toss Roadblock took place. It was slightly less than 25 km or about 15 miles. The driving time of 30 minutes used in my earlier timeline is a decent estimate for that distance.

Look again at Regis and Kelly. He is still recovering from quadruple heart by-pass surgery. R and K most often have a repeat on Monday mornings when they are out doing other sticks over the weekend.

I agree that:
- the producers held up the dhows...not only to prevent a runaway team, but also to prevent a logistical nightmare. (Phil would have to "greet" folks 24-36 hours apart - on different continents - he's good...but not THAT good).
- the "grassy area" (with those pesky mosquitoes) was in the old Fort. Since he had to fly BACK from (Kenya?) & teams were going to come in at intervals throughout the night (& early morning of the next day), production probably just parked in on the field for the 12-18 hour period.
- this was THE long interval (15 hours?) between first (C/M) & last (Guido) placed teams that Phil mentioned in his interview.
- Nairobi will NOT be used for tasks...maybe a place for a stopover (& as importantly a place for R&R and some needed bunching). It was mentioned on another thread of a very nice hotel / safari type lodge was "thanked".
Except for a couple of hours here or there, all teams (& even production) havent' seen a bed for over 2 days. (& I don't think Guido has seen on seen a bed for 3 days). Look for a little R&R in Nairobi & then on to Poland for 2 tasks, the TBC mat & then 2 additional tasks prior to the pit stop.
:umn:
-
Wecome hound109!
I'm still not convinced about Nairobi for anything but possibly a flight/airport thing. And IIRC, the lodge thanked was in Arusha, Tanzania so I expect that they may just omit that leg of the race entirely. There goes our best chance of Safari type tasks!
Teri/Ian mentioned on the Finish Line that they had either three total nights without sleep or two airport nights + the dhow trip--I think it was 3 total but will have to check to be sure. Sounds like everyone was taken by surprise that airline tickets were so hard to come by due to the Hajj.

Thanks georgiapeach! (& everyone can call me hound...or noob...or %$#@&%$*#@ (:;))
It looked like to me that Teri & Ian and team Guido each spent two airport nights (maybe they slipped away the second night to a hotel...does anyone know?) & then spent the next night - 1. on the dhow to Zanzibar 2. Doing the puzzle task 3. Tossing the thing-a-mi-job & 4. Checking in the next morning. Three incredibly exhausting days (especially for 4 folks in their 50's). Almost TAR 1 worthy (no indian train trip though).
& didn't Ian & Terri present themselves great this time around. Maybe they got a good edit, but I also bet that they (especially Ian) made a point of showing their good side. (also, didn't he just quit smoking back on TAR 3? That might have made him nutty too.) All in all a great show for them.
