I was at the airport this morning to bid farewall to a family member .. but you probably don’t care about that.
Anyway .. I was at starbucks, talking to family; then I see a bunch of people running out of the departure gates with large bags and tons of Camera Equipment. I realized it was a reality tv show, and couldn’t think of anything except the ‘Amazing Race’.
I took some pictures with my camera-phone (which are quite bad). Then my cousin and I decided to go see what the whole thing was about. I asked them if it was the Amazing Race, they said it was a ‘travel show’ .. fair enough.
Then I figured, they are probably on a task .. lets help em cheat. They needed directions to Kuwait Towers, told them to go down the aiport road, hang a right on 1st ring and follow the towers. Then they asked if I had any money.. I figured they are semi-celebrities, so I gave them a kd. Then the camera crew asked for my persmission to record .. couldn’t read the contract, way too blurry. I think I might have given someone my first-born.
I then followed them to the Kuwait towers, took a couple more pictures.

Yep, probably a robot; sure is odd-looking, though. I'll stick with the Al-Atraf racetrack for the time being. Also, it's a common practice for owners to drive their pickups (not run) along the inside of the inner rail to goad their camels. :ride:

I ran "Kuwait sailing ship" through google and got this picture (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/what/transportation/boats_and_ships/497713_piece_of_rope_on_a_big_sailing_ship.php?id=497713) of a dhow with a similar deck and faked down line. Is that a roof or tarp over their heads, or just bad lighting in the cap?

Arrive in Kuwait June 9th
Izabela is vacationing in Mauritius ,Africa on June 12
and captures a video of at least 2 of the teams performing a roadblock with crew in tow~
My husband and I witnessed a Roadblock on June 12 while we were holidaying in Mauritius.
..the couples started showing up between 10-11am - the first two were very close to each other.
The detour involved kayaking out into the ocean. Not sure what they did out there but they were gone for about 1/2 an hour on average.
From memory the first team to arrive was all female, the 2nd a guy and girl - all quite young. They completed the task in that order but the leading team got about 5 minutes in between them.
We counted 5 teams in total.
The black female team were in the top five but unfortunately last.
We saw the Asian guy but he was off on the side drinking water and cooling down so we cannot actually remember if we saw him with his partner.
The black woman who did the kayak was a bit overweight and I'd guess not the fittest - she nearly died after that one!
One final point - there were 6 kayaks on the beach - perhaps a FF meant someone avoided this task?
The young m/m team arrived 10-15 mins after the leading couples. This 3rd team seemed to catch up some time with this roadblock but still left 3rd.

ive been rewatching some old tar's and noticed there has always been 1 extra everything than teams are left. just look at season9 finale with the alaska part where they make the ice fishing thingy's. 4 houses 3 teams. also its a very good possibility that there is back to back fast forwards or maybe theres more than 2.

Hey guys,
A couple of things regarding the previous posts.
1. There are over 50 Starbuck(s) in Kuwait .. and there is no way that guy is in the epidoe (the funny looking guy in red).
2. The picture with the black chests(?) are most likely at the base of the Kuwait Towers.
3. The Camel jockeys are robots .. they don't use people anymore. And the Camel tracks are quite far from the Towers (45+ minutes by car). And there aren't any bodies of water near the tracks (no oceans in the backdrop). The cancelling pit stop is probably the track; for the people leaving the towers.
4. The guy in the white dishdasha (arab clothing) and red top at the tower doesn't look like a Kuwaiti; could be someone brought in by TAR.
5. I am wearing a bright green polo ..and it not ****ty .. just really really bright ;D (I went to drop off a family member at the airport at 4.30am; wasn't expectng to be on a TAR).

Puddin, I think Peter/Sarah are in light blue for this episode -- check out the pic from the airport of the team in the currency exchange with camera guys standing outside the door. The light blue team is the only one unaccounted for in the other pics.

Oh I love trying to figure out who gets the fast forward. Since the clue says one team helps another to secure the ff my guess is that the team does get the ff. Without seeing any promos my first guess is that the Lyns get the ff with the Cho's help.

I hope peter and sarah lose .. the guy was a bit rude.. Either way; they were the last group to leave the airport (I even got to the towers before them). So I would assume that they finished the task last.

How nice that David & Mary have a FF leg to potentially boost them to the front. I wonder when the FF will become evident. Will teams know about it at the start of the leg or one or two clues later? If teams are told at the start of the leg that a FF is available, one strategy would be to take the FF to put more pressure on the NEL leg loser (David and Mary). That decision would be easy if you did not like David and Mary. B:)

Puddin, Sarah's not the only one with changing shirts. Kimberly starts with light blue tank and then we see her in a gray t-shirt.
Do we think that teams go straight to Kuwait Towers from the airport to get a clue? In the clue is Roadblock AND FF. One weird thing is that in the spoiler pictures Rob and Kim are leisurely walking at the towers. I guess there is an hours of operation when they get there so the teams bunch up? I wonder how a team gets behind by helping David and Mary secure the FF? It does look like the Cho's are at the roadblock alone and are later than the bunched teams (K/L, D/K, P/S, T/J). I don't see other teams when they show shots of them. I also can't tell if there are other teams shown with the shot of Kim up in the tower. You see someone in a helmet real quick but I can't tell if it is a team. I know I'm rambling. B:)

Point taken , I don't see Kim in the shots with S/D/T/Lynn .. but they are watching someone maybe Kim? just a guess ? It would seem they have to take turns.

From my point of view, i think they are taking turns to do the roadblock(again! :groan: :groan:) which i dont really like it. They should all perform the roadblock at the same time. Thats not challenging at all...they order would be the same once they leave the roadblock to another task........Also this season has lots of bunching up between all the teams. Well,sometimes its good to have that but why all the time? im so mad when unnecessary "bunching" occurs.

I don't think we have any clothing changes -- I think the women on the teams are required to cover their shoulders while in Kuwait out of cultural respect. This is the case in many Muslim countries.
Hence, Kim changes out of her blue tank top into gray shirt, Sarah covers up with pink shirt/blue jacket, Karlyn covers red tank top with red jacket when out in public -- she takes the jacket off in the cab, however.

OK I'm obsessed :wall:..I went through all the legs and cannot find Peter & Sarah wearing those conf clothes any where at the same time so I think its new . The question is IF they are to cover up in Kuwait out of cultural respect then why doe's Peter have shorts on if this is a Kuwait confessional ?
In Mauritius Izabela saw 5 teams ( the geeky girl part is still confusing but could be Edwin who could look like Lori ,TAR9 ) .
And Izabela also saw 6 kayaks , and also speculates that one team may have taken the Fast Forward and if a team did take the fast forward this could only be Peter & Sarah as Mary & David already used their's in Kuwait .
So I'm selling myself the idea that Mary and David did take the Fast Forward in Kuwait but got behind and did not come in first and were eliminated :-\ .

Puddin, as to why Peter is in shorts when they are in the confessional -- dunno. Maybe at the pit stop, teams are out of the public eye and have a little more leeway in terms of what they can wear. I definitely would have been changing into shorts first chance I had -- temps in Kuwait that week were 110+. :flamemad:

No :groan: The chest task comes before the RoadBlock and the Fast Forward. Remember in the Hungarian leg, they have to do a small task before the Fast Forward. Yeah, those old funny train cars, remember. And then Lori/Bolo went for the Fast Forward.

The 8:45 to 8:53 was for this shot and was based on the shadows cast by the towers and knowing where those cars were parked using GE.
I think Kuwaiti confirmed it as well later on. I would use his time since judging shadow locations has its errors.
Puddin, I missed the shot of Alabama at the Camel Races so my theory of what happens is trashed. Back to the drawing board.
Also, I can't find the spot where those treasure chests are. I've looked all around the tower location with Google Earth and nothing fits. Do they appear in video-continuity with the other shots at the tower? I have not seen the video yet. :'(

Yeah, the shadows in that shot are about the same as when they arrived at the towers. So they are just in a holding pattern until it opens and it is their turn.

I understand your logic. However, Phil's conversation with David and Mary at the last pit stop guarantees an elimination on the next leg.

Besides with that the 30 minute penalty would be a waste of a twist if we didn't have a pitstop.
However, in a new twist, the team that finished last learns they must finish first on this leg of the Race in order to avoid a penalty that could cost them the game.
In a new twist , one team learns they must arrive first at the next pitstop or it could mean the end for them .
With no elimination on the previous leg, all teams move forward racing to the next Pit Stop.

Actually the penality David and Mary got would have the same effect in a regular leg as in a TBC. The leg actually ends at the end of The TBC.
I would assume the fast Forward is the same that it takes you to the Pit Stop and they mat that Phil hands out addition clues isn't a Pit Stop.
I don't think they would do it, but it is certainly possible with what Phil said.

So back to the race :hyper: ..I can sleep tonight knowing that Mary and David are safe at least another week or so !!My TV guide for EP7 hints towards a NEL next week. Doubting Kuwait is 2 legs so what Izabela might have seen was a mix of the 6 teams and simply confused Mary as being Godwins partner ? And I suppose the idea of a fast forward in Mauritius is out the window too .
And this week Peter gets paid back for making fun of Mary's sore ankle and the rude Burger King comment !! Can't hardly wait !! Yay for Mary & David, I hope they win a nice trip for their children !! :jumpy:

Certainly looks like a camel track. If the USAToday blog, the author states the track he visited was 80 km from Kuwait City. This track is only about 20 km from the Kuwait Towers.

I've already been down the Kabad road, so to speak. A couple of sources put it at 80km northwest of the city (which would put it almost on the border), and another source cites it as 50 km southwest. No GE luck on either of those. There's more than one racetrack, though; and close to the Al-Atraf track I mentioned previously is a smaller track with a tower similar to the one Banzai mentioned. I've also attached a second possibility, a track south of the city with a very small tower.

Here is a possible reason why the next leg has such an odd start time. That is we see them starting in bright daylight (not a 12 hour pit stop).
There is a direct flight from Chennai to Kuwait leaving at 6:30 am on June 8th. ;D Mary and David would never be able to make that flight under standard 12 hour pit stop timing. That would make for a very unsatisfying play of the new twist.

In the Hungarian leg, Gus & Hera never catched up to the other teams because they were last in line. This small task acts as an equalizer. If the last team finishes fast, they can catch up with the first team. Or if the first team do badly, they'll end up last.

But I think that Karlyn is the shorter, more "petite", and generally snarkier one of the two. Lyn (or Lynette as Karlyn calls her), is the taller one who gave Peter some lip in the last episode on the train.
In the Kuwait tower clips, I believe that Karlyn is wearing the red t-shirt, and Lyn the white.

June 9th
I was at the airport this morning to bid farewall to a family member .. but you probably don’t care about that.
Anyway .. I was at starbucks, talking to family; then I see a bunch of people running out of the departure gates with large bags and tons of Camera Equipment. I realized it was a reality tv show, and couldn’t think of anything except the ‘Amazing Race’.
I took some pictures with my camera-phone (which are quite bad). Then my cousin and I decided to go see what the whole thing was about. I asked them if it was the Amazing Race, they said it was a ‘travel show’ .. fair enough.
Then I figured, they are probably on a task .. lets help em cheat. They needed directions to Kuwait Towers, told them to go down the aiport road, hang a right on 1st ring and follow the towers. Then they asked if I had any money.. I figured they are semi-celebrities, so I gave them a kd. Then the camera crew asked for my persmission to record .. couldn’t read the contract, way too blurry. I think I might have given someone my first-born.
I then followed them to the Kuwait towers, took a couple more pictures.

A couple of things regarding the previous posts.
1. There are over 50 Starbuck(s) in Kuwait .. and there is no way that guy is in the epidoe (the funny looking guy in red).
2. The picture with the black chests(?) are most likely at the base of the Kuwait Towers.
3. The Camel jockeys are robots .. they don't use people anymore. And the Camel tracks are quite far from the Towers (45+ minutes by car). And there aren't any bodies of water near the tracks (no oceans in the backdrop). The cancelling pit stop is probably the track; for the people leaving the towers.
4. The guy in the white dishdasha (arab clothing) and red top at the tower doesn't look like a Kuwaiti; could be someone brought in by TAR.
5. I am wearing a bright green polo ..and it not ****ty .. just really really bright (I went to drop off a family member at the airport at 4.30am; wasn't expectng to be on a TAR).

Here is a possible reason why the next leg has such an odd start time. That is we see them starting in bright daylight (not a 12 hour pit stop).
There is a direct flight from Chennai to Kuwait leaving at 6:30 am on June 8th. ;D Mary and David would never be able to make that flight under standard 12 hour pit stop timing. That would make for a very unsatisfying play of the new twist.

Thanks Puddin, it's my first time to Vegas so I am excited. I really am going to miss the race though and wished that CBS had the full show to watch like they do Survivor. I've GOT to get a DVR. Just hadn't gotten around to it.

The Radisson SAS Hotel
The Radisson SAS Hotel was, like all the other five star hotels in Kuwait, badly damaged during the iraqian invasion in 1990/1991. After the liberation it was completely renewed. Here, you have some views from the roof of the hotel to the Viking Club and to the Al Boom restaurant at the left. The Al Boom restaurant is located in a traditional Kuwaitian sailing dhow, behind the Radisson SAS Hotel, directly at the beach. The restaurant offers steak & seafood from the grill. Behind the Al Boom restaurant you see another ship under construction. It's the Al Bagalah, the largest wooden sailing ship which should ever be built. D&M are shaded in the shot. The wall that has the window stops seeing sun after 2:30 pm. I think D&M are in the shadow of the Dhow. That would mean the shot was pretty much after 5 pm.

RJ, I think my posts are out of sync with your question!
About the Dhow shadow in the GE image, that is some other day some other time. I was just amazed at how clear it is from the satellite view.
For the D&M shot the Sun has to be coming from the west (end of day) and actually a little bit north of west. That would throw the Dhow's shadow over D&M. At 5 pm the Sun was 13 degrees north of true west and 27 degrees above the horizon.
This is where I get my sun angles from: Sun Earth Moon Applet (http://www.jgiesen.de/SME/)
The rest is figuring out where the picture was taken and just estimating the angles. Banzai found some program that helps to do this but I have never craked it open. It would swallow me up I'm afraid. So I just estimate as best I can. Sometimes I will throw in a Cosine correction (that's the effect where you can make an angle bigger or smaller when you view it obliquely).

Puddin, I can't place the Alabama shot. If the white surface is on the Dhow (just speculating) then those building in the background need to match what we see in GE. I haven't been able to say "yes" or "no". Mostly "no" but I suppose I may not be looking in the right places.
If it is then the shot was bout 2:30 pm.

Oh I love trying to figure out who gets the fast forward. Since the clue says one team helps another to secure the ff my guess is that the team does get the ff. Without seeing any promos my first guess is that the Lyns get the ff with the Cho's help.

As best I can determine, the pit stop is below. There's more than one set of striped water tanks; I took Mary's directions and double-checked them against Mapquest and GE (kmz attached). Damascus road is on the right (sideeq, sadiq, various spellings--the sadik district is beyond Damascus), and 5th ring road is just above the tanks. Haven't found gharabally street or the feed lot yet, and I'll stick with my original estimate for the racetrack.

The Al-Gharabally St. is a 2 minute drive from the Kuwait towers, Its a tick lleft of the thumbtack. The pitstop/sideeq area is about 10-15 minutes away (depending on traffic). The Dhow is probably from the Kuwait Scientific Center which they probably recorded after the team was eliminated. The feed lot/track is off towards where Jahra is located, thats a good 20-30 minute drive.
