Title: The Amazing Race: Asia 1
Post by: Neobie on October 01, 2006, 12:04:03 PM
Well, if anything, training ground for the real thing?

Here's (http://amazing-race-asia.axn-asia.com/index.php) the official website. Perhaps I should start the ball rolling?

This promotional picture...

... was taken at Regent Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia...

And leading from that, the teams walk-in (from the videos)...

... seems to be at Merdeka Square, which makes it the starting line...

And here's something possibly relevant to the American edition: "The teams will race around Asia and beyond..."

 Thanks, puddin! :snicker: I suspect there are some of our TAR clips in this preview.

A quick glance at the photobuckets reveals the following locations:

Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Red Fort, Agra, India

Sydney Opera House & Sydney Harbour Bridge,  Sydney, Australia

Suntec City Fountain and Raffles Landing Business district skyline,  Singapore

Jumbo floating restaurant,  Hong Kong, China

Auckland Skyline (Auckland Tower),  Auckland, New Zealand

Ferry boat,  Istanbul, Turkey

National Monument (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/Indonesia/Java/Jakarta_Raya/Jakarta/photo330403.htm),  Jakarta, Indonesia

 B:)

ETA:  Listening to the YouTube clip, I think the first stop is Tokyo.

If CBS can't stop us on the spoiling, AXN has no chance.

I should be able to cover the easy ones, so over to you guys for the Puesta del Sols and the Golden Boys!

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Boingo, the Colonial District (British, actually) is where Merdeka Square (http://www.cuti.com.my/Sub/Kl/guide_merdeka.htm) lies. That's the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (http://www.virtualmalaysia.com/destination/Sultan%20Abdul%20Samad%20Building.html) in your photo, on the eastern flank of the field. The videos suggest that teams walk in from the fountains, stand in a ring around Allan (that's the host) on the northern side, then run across the grounds over to their bags on the southern end, underneath the tallest flagpole in the world. No lack of on-lookers in the background, but I'm not sure if AXN cares.

Ha! I finally understood the first clue! It reads "shop until you drop", and leads the teams to Berjaya Times Square (http://www.timessquarekl.com/), on the opposite end of town near the Bukit Bintang shopping district. The fastest way there by taxi is for teams to cross the road first (really busy road with NO lights), but I doubt any of the 'foreign' teams would know that. Not too big a disadvantage though. I've posted a bit of detailed reasoning on why the first location is Times Square here (http://amazing-race-asia.axn-asia.com/forum/121/topic/304/), but dtyz87 has very concisely cleared it up for us.

It doesn't look like the teams know what they're in for (Sri Lankan team really thinking they're going shopping), but well, PUN coming right at ya! The rappel takes place near outside Lots 54-57 down a couple of storeys onto the Ground Floor, and an Esprit Stall (Lot G54-G57, Ground Floor) can be seen in one of the online videos. One of the girls falls by Bizzy Body Slimming though (Lot 06-64 & 65, 6th Floor), so we'd need to check if they're close enough to be in the same location. My opinion? Not a wonderful starting task (too... unprofessional), but you gotta love the pun.

I see other shots of the Petronas Towers, the Menara KL and the train station, but I guess those are just location establishing shots taken from within taxis. The pushcarts should be in Kuala Lumpur, but I think you can find them pretty much all over Malaysia. It's just the hawker culture...

All the opening sequence team shots look like they've been taken in the sequester hotel, the Regent, itself. (How lousy is that!) Howard and Saran can be seen in Oggy (http://www.ymchee.com/archives/000053.html), one of the restaurants within. And of course, the modesl in the pool. (We've got that one spoiled already.)

MELAKA, MALAYSIA

The next location I can bet on is Melaka, a two-hour bus ride down from Kuala Lumpur. No trains connect the two cities, but a taxi MAY be feasible, though pretty expensive. The picture shows one of those tourist-oriented rickshaws, and it looks like he's right in front of the State House Museum (http://www.reggie.net/malaysia/10220-600.jpg) at the foot of Bukit St Paul. I'm also pretty convinced that the Indonesian brothers are in front of one of the lesser-known churches in Melaka, but I don't have photographic prove just yet. St Francis Xavier is close, but it's not a total match.

The dancing challenge sure looks like the Mini Malaysia Park (http://www.cuti.com.my/Sub/Melaka/ayerkeroh/ark_minimsia.htm) to me. It's about twenty minutes out of the city in a district known as Ayer Keroh, and is probably the only place in a couple of hundred miles where you can find all the different types of Malay traditional housing together (I can at least see the Minangkabau of Negeri Sembilan and a couple of others).

The racing looks like it could be at Sepang, which has its own go-kart track. (I should know, I planned a TAR running across Southeast Asia myself.) Probably just product placement for Caltex though. I can't figure out the Pit Stop just yet. State mosque of anywhere? A stadium? Or maybe even Indonesia? Any ideas?

And guess who makes a surprise appearance in the opening sequence?

"Amazing Race 10 Sighting "
To those who are interested:
A friend of mine saw a team from what I guess is Season 10 on an Air New Zealand flight from Queenstown to Auckland, yesterday, June 2nd. The team spotted was 'an Asian couple, who looked very tired'. They were apparently en route to Singapore.

Apparently the Amazing Race came to NZ last week and they went to Devonport and one team asked my friend's sister's friends [xD] for money instructions on how to use the ferry!

1) long time, no post.
2) Wanna help spoiling too....BTW, Sepang and Indonesia are plausible destinations due to the Youtube clip.
3) I knew there was something about the New Zealand and Singapore spoilers supposedly for AR10.

What are some of the memorable moments viewers can look forward to?

Wu: Well, there's a car accident very early on in the race. There are people eating indigenous delicacies from a certain country and then vomiting all over the place.

It's not blended up worms or maggots or fish eyes like I had on Fear Factor, it's just normal food but some of the people on the show just couldn't take it.

A lot of times the contestants are pitted against their own fears so there are a lot of memorable moments where people are just bawling in their efforts to conquer the challenges and move ahead in the race.

AXN did a 30-minute preview of TAR: Asia yesterday night, and boy do we have work to do!

http://s139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/?start=all (http://s139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/?start=all)

Lacking the money and lacking the technology, I apologize profusely for these misaligned vidcaps (took photos of my TV using my camera). My curtain shows up in some of the darker shots, so please ignore them! (How embarassing.)

Below is speculation about what will happen, and I have arranged the vidcaps totally differently from the chronological order in which they appeared on the AXN special. Tbere's very little actual dialogue played during the programme, so there's not much to speculate on the audio part. Now that we're done with the TAR: Real opening sequence, surely you guys can spend some time helping the Asian audience! :kuss:

MERDEKA SQUARE, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/115.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/116.jpg)
Allan greets us in the middle of the Merdeka Square field. It is from here that (word for word) "10 teams will embark on a race around the world, for 100,000... US dollars." How contrived!

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/123.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/214.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/124.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/147.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/142.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/154.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/201.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/215.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/229.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/252.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/237.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/253.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/270.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/117.jpg)
The teams walk out from the northern end of the field to the starting line.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/270.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/15.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/275.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/131.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/119.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/120.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/121.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/122.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/209.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/210.jpg)
Allan gives his instructions, but he will never be Phil.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/276.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/11.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/277.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/112.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/12.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/17.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/18.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/19.jpg)
"Go!" and the teams are off.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/16.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/127.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/13.jpg)
The teams run over to the southern end, where the Malaysian flag flies. Sahil (India) beats the entire field by at least a third of the... field. Their first clue, according to an earlier preview, starts with "Shop till you drop."

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/261.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/208.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/211.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/106.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/107.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/227.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/228.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/108.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/109.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/110.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/111.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/103.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/104.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/105.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/306.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/102.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/287.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/290.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/292.jpg)
No transportation provided, so the teams' first task is to head over to the road on the field's eastern side to flag a taxi. Some teams stay on the side of the field, others jaywalk to the opposite side. You can see the camera crew in some of the shots.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/264.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/212.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/266.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/268.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/288.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/213.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/225.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/230.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/231.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/242.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/255.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/265.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/267.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/269.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/42.jpg)
Teams cruise through the city of Kuala Lumpur. In some of the shots you can see the Malaysian flag, the KL Monorail line and various skyscrapers.

BERJAYA TIMES SQUARE, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/307.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/82.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/83.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/113.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/114.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/7.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/78.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/79.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/80.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/81.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/4.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/217.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/47.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/48.jpg)
Taxis drop teams off near Berjaya Times Square, and they take off on foot. The vidcaps show Pudu Jail, next to the shopping mall. (Go figure.)

Pudu Jail

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/257.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/161.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/162.jpg)
Teams try to find their next clue within the mall.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/118.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/218.jpg)
From a previous preview, we learn that teams rappel INSIDE the mall from one of the higher floors.

Aubrey (Philippines) looks worried, but she's on the ground floor. Is this a Roadblock?

Completion of the task earns teams their next clue.

CRAFT COMPLEX, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/234.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/5.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/6.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/235.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/236.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/20.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/21.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/138.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/139.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/140.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/141.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/8.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/263.jpg)
Teams next take taxis to the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex (http://www.kraftangan.gov.my/page.php?xf_pgfr_id=PBM_KKKL). This follows soon after Berjaya Times Square, as the teams drive for the remainder of the leg. Looks like the yellow Detour envelope to me.

(http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/289/krafot5.th.jpg) (http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=krafot5.jpg)
Following the Google Earth image of the Craft Centre, we can link another set of clips to this place.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/10.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/204.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/205.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/309.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/219.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/220.jpg)
Teams on the plaza pointed out in the Google Earth image.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/308.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/304.jpg)
Not sure where these belong. The Mario Brothers (Indonesia) just completed a painting thing to get their next clue, and previous previews suggest that there is a dancing task to do with the lady. The two choices for the Detour?

MENARA KL, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Teams switch their taxis for cars, and Howard/Sahran (Sri Lanka) are seen here taking the road in to the Menara KL (http://www.menarakl.com.my/).

Teams walk up the hill through the Botanical Gardens to the clue. In the first two shots, Zabrina (Malaysia) tells the other teams "that way, go all the way up."

Lots and lots of driving. There's a toll gate, so teams do head outside of Kuala Lumpur. The Mario Brothers (Indonesia) get out and ask for directions a couple of times. Can someone figure out Francesca's map?

GO-KART RACING, SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/295.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/14.jpg)
My hunch tells me this should be at the go-kart track at Sepang F1 Circuit (http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/), but I don't have hard evidence. The suits are blatant product placements for Caltex.

STATE HOUSE MUSEUM, MELAKA, MALAYSIA

This is all I have so far.

MENARA KL, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

This matches a BASE jumping video here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xv8NvKg17w0), but doesn't that throw the hill climb sequence out of whack? Allan says "You are team number... three." in a VERY strange way.

MENARA KL, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Can you guess why the Mario Brothers (Indonesia) are so happy? Could the next destination be Jakarta? I'm putting this sequence as the Pit Start, as there is little other footage of teams at dusk, let alone at night. A twelve hour difference from a mid-day finish would put teams in the middle of the night.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/22.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/23.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/29.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/72.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/73.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/74.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/75.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/76.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/77.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/146.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/226.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/258.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/259.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/260.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/271.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/272.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/273.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/274.jpg)
Teams drive through the night. Andrew/Syeon (Malaysia), Laura/Andy (Thailand), the Mario Brothers (Indonesia), Sahran/Howard (Sri Lanka), Prashant/Sahil (India) are all safe for Leg 1. Is #146 Zabrina/Joe Jer (Malaysia)? If it is not, it means... (continued later). Also, can anyone figure out the map in #74? It has a railway line running down it.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/157.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/158.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/159.jpg)
Sahran/Howard (Sri Lanka) hire a cab to follow. "We need to get to the airport really quickly." "Thank you!" "We'll follow you."

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/30.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/296.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/297.jpg)
Looks like Kuala Lumpur International Airport to me. Air Asia did move over to the Low Cost Terminal a while ago, but I'm not sure if it was before or after the race. I see four different flights by Air Asia (the sponsor airline, which they will undoubtedly take) running from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta: AK952 at 7am, QZ7603 at 9.50am, AK954 at 1.40pm and AK956 at 6.50pm. Each flight takes an hour to get to Indonesia.

SOEKARNO-HATTA INTL AIRPORT, JAKARTA, INDONESIA

Prashant/Sahil (India), Sahran/Howard (Sri Lanka), Laura/Andy (Thailand), Ernie/Jeena (Philippines), Sharon/Melody (Singapore), the Mario Brothers (Indonesia) are seen in the same shots, so they probably all got on the same flight. (I'm not 100% sure if Sharon/Melody is with the main pack.)

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/240.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/241.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/254.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/256.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/94.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/96.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/97.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/31.jpg)
Aubrey/Jacqueline (Philippines), Francesca/Sandy (Hong Kong) and Andrew/Syeon (Malaysia) also make it. The only team not seen here is Zabrina/Joe Jer, were they eliminated in Leg 1? If it is, it means #146 is not them.

STREETS, JAKARTA, INDONESIA

Teams here are wearing different clothes from they did in Kuala Lumpur, so it's safe to put these in Jakarta, I suppose?

Based on an earlier preview, this leg ends at the National Monument in Jakarta.

THE ROCKS, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/56.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/285.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/286.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/293.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/294.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/299.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/302.jpg)
Sharon/Melody (Singapore) and Sahran/Howard (Sri Lanka) make it to the tiny park across from the Sydney Opera House at dawn. Looks like a Detour clue to me. The Mario Brothers (Indonesia) arrive later in the morning. The teams are now about 300 yards away from the Sydney Pit Stop in TAR2, the Metropolitan Art Museum.

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/300.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/301.jpg)
When the sun is up, a team prepares food very close to the first cluebox, right underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Who is this?

MOUNT EDEN, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

The cluebox is in a rugby field below the Sky Tower, and I'm thinking it's at Mount Eden, on the southern side of downtown.

Joe Jer wears white in Kuala Lumpur but black when she is cooking (thanks Banzai!), possibly placing the food cart task in Jakarta. If Leg #1 takes place over a single day, it means ALL ten teams make it to the Menara KL mat and survive. A non-elimination on the first leg?!

Seems interesting, I think I'll watch it!

Just some scheduling info for those who also want to watch it too, this premires on Thursday, November 9th at 8AM (yes, AM) EST.  I figured out the time zones because it premires at 9PM Singapore time.
If you can't watch it then (I can't, I have class at 8-9, dang), then you can watch it at 11am this Thursday EST.  Then, for the next few weeks, it'll be at 11:30am EST on Thursday (Still having a premire time of 8AM EST).

If you want extra time, here's the link to the site's schedule: http://www.axn-asia.com/schedule/index.php
Just add 13 hours to the schedule time there for times in EST, then you'll know when to watch.

Wow! That means the Qatar and around!

Bag. (Although this could belong in another location altogether.)

Bag.

No bag!

Sahran/Howard have their bags in the airport shots though, so they weren't mugged the first leg. Confusion!

Heh. The Taiwanese commercial (Episode 2 Preview) is so totally overboard with the hype...

"A million-dollar prize (not)...
... causes ten teams to 'destroy their humanity' (I really can't find a better way to translate this, but it's every bit as horrible as it sounds)...
... going through the most arduous experience known to mankind...
... a new reality TV show that will rock the whole of Asia...
... The Amazing Race: Asia, Monday 13 November, right after CSI at 11pm."

Come on!

AXN is showing a new series of commercials with a tie-in to Caltex, one of their (darned) sponsors. There's a nice little graphic in it showing various landmarks, some of which I don't think warrant even a mention if the race wasn't headed its way. Plus, it shows Sydney, which hardly constitutes as being in 'Asia'. Perhaps this commercial could yield some clues?

(http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/696/agraej4.jpg) Taj Mahal, Agra, India

(http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/2659/dubaimg2.jpg) Burj Al-Arab, Dubai, UAE

(http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/7404/elephantts7.jpg) Wat Chalong, Phuket, Thailand

(http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/787/mumbaiyb0.jpg) Gateway of India, Mumbai, India

(http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/6601/singaporesc8.jpg) Merlion, Singapore

(http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/9277/sydneyhf7.jpg) Opera House, Sydney, Australia

So... is this possible?

AXN did a 30-minute preview of TAR: Asia yesterday night, and boy do we have work to do!

GO-KART RACING, SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD

(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/295.jpg) (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q300/TAR_Neobie/14.jpg)
My hunch tells me this should be at the go-kart track at Sepang F1 Circuit (http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/), but I don't have hard evidence. The suits are blatant product placements for Caltex.

Very, very, very good job with the identification of the locations
I just thought i could help you out with the Go-Kart racing section, that's why i registered   I'm 99% confident that the go-karting task takes place in The Shah Alam Go-Kart Circuit (http://www.citykarting.com/shahalamcircuit.htm), next to the Shah Alam Stadium (http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/asia/malaysia/shahalam_stadium.shtml). Shah Alam is about 25km from Kuala Lumpur...

The reason I'm saying this is bcoz i spotted this while I was driving a few months back:

A closer zoom-in:

Sorry for the blurry pic... Took it using my camera-phone while i was driving... Anyways, it is clear enough to show the amazing race route marker on a "Persiaran Sukan" sign.. Persiaran Sukan is the road that loops around Shah Alam Stadium, and "sukan" is the malay word for sports.... While I was watching the videos on MSN soapbox, I couldn't help noticing one familiar area one of the teams were driving through:
In the photo you can notice the roofline of the building, and it looks like the roofline of several blocks of huge apartment buildings which are in Section 13, Shah Alam.. The palm trees that line up the road are also quite familiar, coz I pass that road almost daily... heheh

Here's a google earth screencap to help describe the area:
The yellow 'X' is where the route marker was placed... The red 'X' is the position where I think the team in the photo above were at... The go kart circuit is just above the red 'X', and the structure with the grey roof is the Shah Alam stadium...

Just to give a rough idea on when they did the shooting, the photo of the route marker that i spotted above was taken on 22nd May 2006, 5.33pm...
In this screencap(kuala lumpur, in front of pudu jail, near berjaya times square), there's a bunting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau Ministerial Meeting (http://webevents.bernama.com/events/nmm/?type=ma), which took place between 27 & 30 May... Those buntings are usually placed 1 or 2 weeks before the actual event, so the timeframe is pretty accurate.... They were in Kuala Lumpur around mid-May

I'm just a noobie in this investigating thing, but i find it interesting... hehehe.... It's more exciting to know that they came to where I live... but it's damn frustrating that I didn't spot the teams... haha... I would've driven one team throughout the whole Malaysian leg of the race if i had the opportunity.... Owh, I wanted to steal the route marker but something somewhere somehow told me "NO! The teams would get lost!"... the next morning I wanted to go back and steal it but it wasn't there anymore....  :'(

TVUP is fun ..I can watch our Amazing race again from the West coast channel. No worms no bugs..I recommend it.
I haven't figured out how to capture screencaps yet, thats TVUP's downfall.

:-\  TAR Neobie wrote on the TAR Asia AXN Forum (http://amazing-race-asia.axn-asia.com/forum/121/topic/16120/):

Quote
The episode wasn't utterly and completely horrendous (came close, but not totally there yet); it just didn't have the polished feel of the CBS version. The editing was confusing and it was hard to keep track of the teams (although TAR1 did face the same problems in its first (and only the first) epsiode), so there's always that sense of confusion hanging in the air.

Like the teams though, THANK GOD they have some semblance of a personality. I'm ashamed to admit that there were moments that made me chuckle! Allan, though, just looks (and sounds) so uncomfortable giving his 'speeches'. Did we have to go through the "You are team number...

...

...

...

threeeeee." so many times, with the EXACT SAME expression?

Room for improvement, room for improvement. A D grade for now.

(Me being the TAR purist will naturally have somewhat high expectations.)

:groan:  So, who was eliminated?  OK, looks like it was a NEL.

It appears to me that the greeter in the first picture is the town crier (to the left of the person in the white top) who was also the greeter on the top of the Museum of Contempary Art, and I can't see him in the second photo.

Maybe the dancing clue box is at Taman Mini Indonesia. Check out the palm tree behind Andy and the small bush behind Laura. They match. But the dancing is in another area.

The snake pit is probably at the zoo.  ???

Possibly, when you consider that the tasks in Sydney in TAR2 were all within about a 2km radius, and the TAR Asia tasks are in the same general area.

I can't read the script, but if you flip the photo you can get some numbers. 0361 is the phone prefix for Denpasar (Bali), if that helps.

Oh well, I think the script looks Latin to me. But it it also looks Indic (specifically Thai).
I hope we could get a better, clearer picture!

Looks like we have most of what's coming next week already...

Teams depart from Bali over a spread of what - six hours? Their next destination: Sydney, Australia. It looks like they arrive at Kingsford Smith Intl Airport (http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL/default.htm) at the crack of dawn, which would fit in nicely with the first clue being at the Rocks facing the Sydney Opera House.

Since these next two tasks are so close to the clue box, I'm reckoning it's a Detour. We see Sharon/Melody climbing up the Sydney Harbour Bridge (http://www.bridgeclimb.com/) (rehash of TAR2) and Andy/Laura processing prawns underneath the bridge (rehash of TAR8).

Looks like the Roadblock involves diving with the sharks at the Sydney Aquarium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Aquarium) or Ocean World Manly, and surprise! It's a rehash of the TAR4 Roadblock in Brisbane.

And of course, the Pit Stop at the Bounty. (Yay valor boreal!)

Oh, and that Wikipedia spoiler? Is so blown to bits. :whever:

Could the first clue be on the side of the bridge of The Rocks? It looks like the Sydney Opera House is facing out towards the left of the picture, which would correspond with the little park next to Circular Quay...

Quote
Before applying to work on the series, Zabrina had to consult her TARA team mate and friend Joe Jer first.

“I had to ask her permission because once I work on the Race, that would end the possibility of us ever being on All Stars .... if there ever is one-lah.”

According to that article, Zabrina can't be in All-Stars. Hmm.

Past winners in Amazing Race 1 to 10 were not given much consideration for AR11 All-Stars. The only ones who were on that show were Uchenna and Joyce. I expect that the same would apply to ARA All-Stars and few winners would be picked. AR11 was treated as mostly a popularity contest with marginal racers like Dave and Mary making it and many other worthy teams not making it.

Caught it on the Filipino news last week: Aubrey Miles (http://thefilipinoweb.com/celebrities/aubrey-miles-baby-boy) is now a mom...

In other news (TARA2 though), Marc and Rovilson are staring down at me at every street corner, every fast-food stall, and every department stall in the entirety of the Philippines. There's no escape, people!

I recently visited my sister in Devonport New Zealand, home of the NZ Royal Navy and also the most diabolical episode of any Amazing Race ever. Yes, the one thing I wanted to do in Devonport was to see the famous tree where that swing used to be. It is amazingly close to the ferry terminal. If a team turned left out of the terminal the swing was less than 200 yards away. Alternatives may be up to 4 miles away within Devonport. There is a horizontal branch of the tree where there are some wear marks at exactly the distance apart that a swing should be, but there is no other evidence that a swing was once there.
