Yes you did Chateau !! :jumpy:

:jumpy: Thanks Puddin. The crocodile god is Sobek. Given enough time, the temple can be identified. I don't remember Egypt being mentioned at all. ???

(http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR10/introcaps/th_9-17-20060084.jpg) Vietnameses use Roman characters. I guess this is where racers pick up new clues.

DEFINITELY looks like Barcelona. here are some of my pictures overlooking the city from the hills (I think from Parc Guell)... I definitely remember it being a very flat city and that there were only very, very few buildings that are very tall (La Sagrada Familia being one of the most prominent)

The statue of Christopher Columbus is also known as Cristobal Colon, and it's right by the waterfront -- it's at the very end of Las Ramblas (the famous street with crazy street vendors, side shows, and such).

does the clock look familiar moox03 ?

No it doesn't... when I first saw it I thought it was western-looking but if you look up close at the face of the clock, it looks like there is a floral-esque design. Maybe more indicative of an Islamic culture? Kuwait? Now is Egypt a possibility?
-
Oh moox03 I didnt find the clock but some great pictures searching Kuwaiti clock towers !! :yaya:

Hey all. I'd be glad to kick in and try to help identify some intro caps. Do we know which pics are re-craps? I don't want to spend alot of valuable time at work (LOL) looking for a pic that is from a different season.

That's Chinese text on the red paper. Not Cyrillic (Mongolia) nor Roman (Vietnam). Looks like a medical hall to me.

:jumpy: Think I found our "golden boy". If you flip the vidcap of the golden statue (mirror view), then it looks a lot like the Peter the Great statue on the Moscow River. (Notice his right arm is raised. Oh those monkeys at CBS, messing with our minds. :meow:
It's a recycled image.

The middle picture shows robot jockeys, adopted because the (mostly UAE) sheikhs were in trouble over kidnapping children for use as camel jockeys (see here (http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/fs/2005/50940.htm)). The cap on top may be a robot or just part of a saddle, it's hard to tell.
-
Cool on the statue!

(http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e390/freelancer2k/TAR10spoiler/intro/flash6.jpg) (http://www.crystalinks.com/khepri2.gif)
TAR has a habit of covering different regions of the revisited country (a very good thing). This means the temple should be in the south of the Egypt this time. Aswan? Perhaps even Sudan. The geographical fits in well with the two elephants, more commonly found in the South. Is that a scarab at the top? If it is the temple's probably for Khepri (symbol in picture).
-
 This vidcap looks like the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek. Only thing, it's way too modern looking, too new, as are the columns behind it. Reminds me of a theme park. :-\

In Vietnam, it's a custom to dye their teeth black. See http://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nhuộm_răng_đen
She's probably work in a Chinese herb store ???
-
I thought the same thing about the croc statue, Boingo -- the courtyard it's in looks like it's in minor disrepair though; weeds coming up, etc. The temple looks way too well-maintained too, like a reconstruction.
-
Could the camel be a recycled image -- they did have to transport camels in Oman last year, right??
-
These camels have harnesses for racing.
-
I'm working on this ..brb ( thanks for the photobucket banzai !)

more info about black teeth in English:
http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/Vietnam/North_East/Bac_Ninh/Bac_Ninh/photo179422.htm
Most of old women in the country side of Vietnam have blackteeth like this. According to tradditional Vietnamese sense, black teeth is considered as a beauty of old woman . This message was indicated in many old literature of Vietnam .
They use tradditional liquid to dye their teeth. After dying the teeth will also last longer ( That is why Colgate did not make big investment in Vietnam and target only Vietnamese kids)

Just throwing this out there....could this be a Russian T-90 Battle Tank, or a Chinese Type 96 or Type 98 Battle Tank ? Still looking for a matching pix. ???
(http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5505/war2ip1.th.jpg) (http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=war2ip1.jpg)
Cool masks, puddin.
ETA: If it's Russian, that would mean Belarus is a possibility. Pretty crazy, huh? Bwaaahahahahah!
Update: Could it be the Russian made M-84 Battle Tank (used by countries like Yugoslavia or Croatia)?. See pix below.
Or is it a Russian T-72 Battle Tank ? link (http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~minorinn/-a_tanks/T72/-T72.html)

A possible match on the schooner: the Isla Mauritia (http://www.2afrika.com/site/safaris/diversion.asp?DiversionID=71), which makes regular runs from Grand Baie. I can't find any large photos of the ship, but the paint job looks the same.
More Mauritius stuff: the waterfall may be in the Black Gorge area. There's one at Chamarel that's close, but I can't call it a match yet. And an amendment: Holy Lake is what the locals call Grand Bassin (http://www.nationsonline.org/album/Mauritius/slides/Grand%20Bassin.html), a small crater lake that Hindus believe is connected to the Ganges (commercial kmz attached).

A schooner ! I couldn't think of what to call it :lol3: ! Great Slowhatch !!

I'll be damned Slowhatch none of the Isla Mauritia links work :umn: ! what the hell ?

(http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e390/freelancer2k/TAR10spoiler/intro/camel3.jpg) Kuwait flag? ???
Good catch on the flag Banzai !!

You mean the ship's site, www.islamauritia.com? Yeah, the links are dead, and I only found one google cached page. You might try the Wayback Machine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php), but even their cache has a lot of the pictures removed.
-
Another tank possibility: Finland (http://www.armyrecognition.com/europe/Finlande/Finlande_index_materiel.htm) has some T-72 armor as well the pine forests seen in the cap. And Signal posted (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php?topic=8610.msg128474#msg128474) about an obstacle course in a swamp.
-

Thats what I meant Slowhatch .. how awful for us they dont update their sites  . From what I can see your schooner looks like a match
 This vidcap looks like the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek. Only thing, it's way too modern looking, too new, as are the columns behind it. Reminds me of a theme park. :-\
 Reminds me of a video game Boingo , like you have to climb from the lowest level to the highest .. see the last one has a flag of some sort ..

could that cap be from kom ombo??
-
At the bottom of this page (http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/temples.htm) there's links with pictures to just about every temple in Egypt; no matches so far. I agree with Boingo, the caps have the look of a Hollywood set.
On a different topic, the black teeth could be caused by chewing betel nut (a disgusting habit that would make an interesting food challenge), but Vietnamese women also lacquer their teeth for social custom--see here (http://www.dentalfind.com/Black_Teeth/).
-
i think if u find the pillars in the backround we will find where the heck that statue is

Just throwing this out: the touareg are well-known for the indigo blue head cloth called a Tagelmust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagelmust).

-
Cool stuff, banzai. The chariots in the vidcap remind me of Egyptian chariots, not Roman. Kinda like what Ramses would drive. LOL. The "feather dusters" on the horses heads is a dead giveaway. LOL. (as if I would really know).
Reminds me of a video game Boingo , like you have to climb from the lowest level to the highest .. see the last one has a flag of some sort ..
kinda like Super Mario Brothers. :lol3:
the caps have the look of a Hollywood set.
yeah, sure does look fake. BTW, I never thought of the Finnish T-72. I was trying to match the military patch on the tank commanders uniform in the vidcap, but it's too blurry.

:umn: The more I look at the Sobek vidcap, the more I wonder if the columns behind the statue are actually a stylized lotus flower water fountain (sans water). Maybe connected with a hotel or touristy something.

Possible, Boingo. The Egyptian "temple" could be from a place like:
Pharaonic Village (http://www.pharaonicvillage.com/) in Cairo or Akhenaten City (http://www.geocities.com/acplc/reconstruction.htm) in Luxor. Both are reproductions of ancient sites. Unclear as to the current status of the latter, and still no clear photo matches.
-
can any find pics of the area around the Temple of Sobek at the Fayoum Oasis ??
-
Probably Arabian horses right ? the whole Ben Hur and all ? Just looking for a possable Chariot race location.
At Jerash, the newly restored hippodrome, Circus Gerasa, with its original stone seating and carceres (starting gates) provides an ideal arena for a thrilling spectacle such as the citizens of the Roman Empire would have been able to see some twenty centuries ago.

Looking closer at the temple it seems the elephants more closely resemble a "criosphinx (http://www.eaudrey.com/myth/sphinx.htm)" or ram-headed sphinx (http://www.discoveringegypt.com/karnakg.htm). They were mostly in the Thebes area, esp. Karnak. What does it mean? If it's a re-creation, it means...nothing :-\. This place may turn into the Puesta del Sol for this season. :knuckles:

so your saying they went back to the karnak temple again?
Nope; it just looks too unweathered, even shiny, to match any shots I've seen of real temples. In the Sobek cap, you can even see what looks like the skeleton of an unfinished column. A movie set (maybe related to the chariot races)? An outdoor theme museum? I have no idea, it's a puzzle ???. What makes it a little more difficult is that if it's not genuine, then it doesn't necessarily sit in Egypt.

Found this on a temple in Vietnam: "The temple, acknowledged by the state as an historic site, is a low building. On the tip of the roof are the traditional symbols found on Vietnamese religious structures: two dragons bowing to a flaming disk that represents the sun." The sun is pretty evident in the caps, so it's probably not China.
Spoilerers take note: Vietnam has a Forbidden City of it's own at Hue with dragons everywhere, it's one of the places where Flo broke down in TAR3.

great another find Neobie ! :jumpy:

I think the tank is the T-72 too. And those are pine trees. No luck with the insignia.

Don't remember Viet Cong nor North Viets having T-72 main battle tanks. That leaves perhaps Mongolia or China.
-
from wiki
The T-72 was the most common tank used by the Red Army from the 1970s to the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was also exported to other Warsaw Pact countries and Finland, India, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yugoslavia, as well as being copied elsewhere, both with and without licenses

Their facial features look more like Thais, Cambodians or Laotians. Their skins are darker since they live near the equator.

:'( OK, I'm bored to tears looking for Sobek, so let's have some fun with the Vietnam vidcaps.

Guess how you get up to the top of Tibidabo Hill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibidabo)?
Tibidabo is a hill overlooking Barcelona, Spain. There is an amusement park, a TV mast (Torre de Collserola), and a Catholic church at the top, which can be reached by a funicular railway, by bus, and by car.

Maybe it's another dead-end and maybe other people have checked it out, but I'm getting a good vibe about this spot in Cairo...
From touregypt (http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/kidsguideegypt1.htm):
Media Production City contains a number of open air shooting areas, as well as the Mubarak studio complex and its own dedicated theme park, Magic Land.
Still looking for images, but there's this bit of info (http://www.touregypt.net/mpc.htm) too:
Magic Land (children's village), covers an area of 15,000 sq.m, within the Integrated Activity Area. A 230 m. long entrance gate (Egypt's Gate) was built showing models of most renowned tourist attractions and monuments of Egypt, such as Pharaonic temples, Bibliotica of Alexandria, Giza Pyramids, citadels and fortresses, Saladin's Citadel etc...
Still looking for an image match...

Cairo's Media Production City (MPC) is simply massive, extending over 35 million square yards of desert, near the famous Giza pyramids, a few miles southwest of Cairo. Producers will find outdoor stages with standing sets featuring just about everything a filmmaker might need: a 60,000 square-foot Islamic village, a Pharonic city...

eta: do you think this is where they hold the Chariot Race ?
Sure, since Egypt is off the list. Besides, it's an Egyptian set on a movie studio. What's the chances they have chariots too. This may explain the North African in the blue turban. Morocco seems a bit out of the way, could it be after Mauritius?
Yeah, the golden boy does look like he has an 18th century hairstyle. Any one of a dozen American patriots comes to mind. Could also be 19th century European. I even thought it might be in the Soviet (monument) style.
Hmm...Morocco is right across from Gibraltar. Think they get to Barcelona via Morocco-Gibraltar? Couldn't be any further away though.
-
I guess that was a stupid question afterall , of course thats where the chariot is done  = me

good job, puddin. TAR went to Bollywood in India so it's OK to go to another film studio.

Just throwing this out there, since Morocco is now on the list of countries TAR10 visits.

I go away to Tahoe for a couple of days and I miss all the fun! :knuckles: Great work on Morocco, Puddin  :jumpy:. I could find only one example of a Ouarzazate chariot race, from a Ten Commandments remake (source (http://www.contrasto.it/eng/reportage/dettaglioprod.asp?idprod=1285)). Boingo is right, the blue man group (tuaregs) task is somewhere nearby. As for the statue, look closely and you can see what looks like a construction skeleton (unless the hatchwork is the result of a picture problem).

Don't leave us again Slowhatch .. I was worried :kuss:
So the statue might be impossble to find ?
I can tell you its not in the tens thousands pictures , from gilded to gold and I searched in all countries we know and think they might go .
I even checked South America & North America ..thinking I've seen it before . Ah well I think I'll just give up :snicker:
Glad you had a safe trip Slowhatch !!

can any1 match up Louis XVI to our missing statue?
-
This Finnish photo (http://mikko.pp.fi/public/Mauritius/slides/012%20Isla%20Mauritia.html) is the closest I've gotten so far to the Isla Mauritia; you can see a hull number but it's too small to read (fwiw, some interior shots (http://www.info-mauritius.com/forum/album_showpage.php?pic_id=3384)). The ship makes regular excursions from Grand Bay to the Maratim hotel at Turtle Bay; my guess is that it's parked for the show at Grand Bay, because of the Merville beach connection (I couldn't find an address for the Merville beach resort other than "north Grand Bay").

btw , nice schooner Slowhatch :)

Don't forget this bad boy. (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR10/introcaps/intro01.jpg) There's a waterfall database on the net, but it's kind of useless. I've tried googling " X waterfall" for images (replacing the X with spoiler countries), but no luck so far.

mauritius (http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=mauritius+falls&btnG=Search) has some falls but they don't look that "misty". I thought it might be Victoria Falls but dunno ?

These photos were taken in Kyiv, capital of the Ukraine.
Rodina Mat means something like "Mother Russia".
It may not be a very popular statue these days, but it's very dramatic.
It's made of titanium and it's 62m tall - the height of Nelson's Column in London.
And it stands on a 40m plinth, on top a hill overlooking the Dnipro river.

Re: Amazing Race 10 Spoilers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we just have 3 NEL's still then -- that is, if we have a TBC somewhere too -- for example, something like this (the placement of NEL's is pure spec):
EP1: Seattle, WA (USA) to Beijing, China - ELIM
EP2: Beijing, China to Gachuurt, Mongolia - ELIM
EP3: Gachuurt, Mongolia to Hanoi, Vietnam - ELIM
EP4: Hanoi, Vietnam to Halong Bay, Vietnam - ELIM
EP5: Halong Bay, Vietnam to Chennai, India (JUNE 6-7) - NEL #1
EP6: Chennai, India to Kuwait City, Kuwait (JUNE 8-9) - ELIM
EP7: Kuwait City, Kuwait to Grand Baie, Mauritius (JUNE 11-12) - ELIM
EP8: Grand Baie, Mauritius to Madagascar (June 13-14?) - NEL #2
EP9: Madagascar to Lohja, Finland (JUNE 15-16) - TBC
EP10: Lohja, Finland to Belarus (June 17-18?) - ELIM
EP11: Belarus to Ourzazate, Morocco (June 19-20?) - NEL #3
EP12a: Ourzazate, Morocco to Barcelona, Spain (JUNE 21-22) - ELIM
EP12b: Barcelona, Spain to Paris, France to New York, NY (USA) (JUNE 23-24)
This also doesn't count Bilal & Saeed's elimination as a "pit stop" elimination. Another interesting thing about this new NEL twist is that it makes an NEL in the middle of the finale pointless, so we won't have one there.

Oh its like a monkey off my back, all this time I was looking for a man :lol3:!
Heres the spoiler Slowhatch,it came from Signal :)
Signal (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php?topic=8610.msg128474#msg128474)
I got some new info,
Few sources have said that the race continued to Belarus after Finland. And I don't think it was just a connection point.
-
I've attached a kmz for the Rodina Mat. I've looked around for Ukraine tourism and Belarus tourism and the results are slim (on the other hand, running through a mine or swamp is the last thing I would think of for Finland :hlol). A lot of the interesting stuff, like the Swallow Castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Swallow%27s_Nest_%28Crimea%29_2.jpg) and 7-km bazaar (http://www.2odessa.com/wiki/index.php?title=Seventh-Kilometer_Bazaar), is down by the Black Sea. One more time: :yess:

:yess: Nice one puddin. Looks like our "golden boy" turned out to be a "silver girl". :snicker:
This find raises puddin to the "La Puesta Del Sol" level of TAR detectives. (a rare breed indeed).
You deserve the TarJunkie999 "dancing banana" victory dance. :whip: :lock

:jumpy: You absolutely rock. Are we done here?
Aah right we still have the waterfall. I'm 80% sure it's in Mauritius/Madagascar though...

WJW :woohoo:
That's Wow, Just Wow!
I put it into Wikipedia for you Puddin.
And we have High Rez in Kiev! Here is the Rodina Mat

Now we know where the whole "Belarus/Estonia" rumor came from...they went to Ukraine instead...which of course is nextdoor.
-
:hyper: I'm just glad we got the location fixed before it happens or umm...I mean in TV time not real time :D .
-
I mentioned in another post that my parents live in Ukraine -- I even THOUGHT about the Statue of the Motherland but thought -- "no, it's silver." YEAH, PUDDIN!!!!
BTW, you can climb that statue -- my dad has done it. Possible roadblock?
I have been waiting for them to go to Kiev forever! Woohoo! Can't wait to do some spoling with new clips!!
-
Great mwooden! any ideas of why it looks gold? I'm having a hard time finding a picture or reasons why?
mwooden can you give us a timeline update when you have time? :kuss:
heres one picture, sort of goldish..is it the sun playing tricks?
-
New route spec in the spoilers thread, Puddin! Also, yep, think it's just a lighting thing that's making it look gold.
-
Thanks gingher!!!
So that I could help in the Google-ing soon.
It's "Ouarzazate" NOT "Ourzazate" :)
And on Morocco still, I saw this pic on wiki:
So the falls on the preview might be the Ouzoud Falls :)
-
Hate to be a wet blanket, seeing as how we have all the intro caps pegged now, but that tank isn't at the museum in Kiev. I've been to that museum a couple times and there's no terrain like that (mud, pines) anywhere around that area. The tank very well could be Ukrainian, but it's not at that site.
-
I questioned the tanks mwooden, it was just a guess.
-
No problem. Just search for an armored unit or tank proving ground nearby (it might be a museum, like the Dennis/Andrew FF, but...I doubt it). Until we can read the uniform (I've had no luck with the patch so far), that's about as close as we're going to get, because the pine forest and mud are generic.
-
Hey, another newbie delurks!!
I have been avidly following the messages here and am quite impressed! :hallo25
Now onto some info regarding the tanks, DH sent me this link in this regard. It appears that just 43 little miles from Kiev is Desna Military Base and for a price, people can shoot, drive a vehicle or live like a soldier.
Here's the link:
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/TRAVEL/NEWS/10/09/ukraine.tourism.reut/index.html
Glad to be posting here and thank you all for the great spoilers!!

Welcome aboard MrsEbbles :hithere: ! I just checked out the link and DH's lead is looking good !

Welcome aboard MrsEbbles :hithere: ! I just checked out the link and DH's lead is looking good !
:yess:
He looked at the tank picture with driver that's upthread and recognized the tank (despite it's added-on greeblies) and knew instantly that it was Ukrainian. He couldn't figure out the patch due to it being too blurry. He then found some pictures of various models of the T-72 and T-80 Russian tanks but just sent me this link to the article instead. I can post the pictures he found if you like.
Ahhh, the joys of being married to a man who loves TAR! :hearts:
-
From the link:
From AK-47 assault rifles to T-72 tanks and Mig-29 fighter jets, Ukraine is offering anyone with money to burn the opportunity to fire, drive and fly the same military equipment that during the Cold War was on hair-trigger alert for a NATO attack.
The tank in the credits is a T-72.
And it is close: 47 miles away from Kiev

Nice MrsEbbles,we hope you and DH stick around an post with us :jumpy: !
Now are we done here? :yess:

Nice find, Mrs.E! :waves: According to the Alaris site (http://www.alaris.com.ua/eng/index1.html), Desna/Desniansky is the closest firing range to Kiev:
Clients of Alaris company may visit any of four offered firing ranges of Ministry of Defence of Ukraine:
Desniansky firing range (50 km from Kyiv).
Angarsky firing range (Simferopol, Yalta region at Crimean peninsula).
Uzhgorodsky firing range (20 km from Uzhgorod).
Yavorovsky firing range (70 km from Lviv).
-
Nice work, Mrs. E! :yess: Intro caps are done!
Looking forward to D/K with a grenade launcher.
-
^^ yep! looking forward to that, too. (they will be there right? :lol3:)
Hope my falls will be right :)
-
Just adding a pic from the Alaris site (http://www.alaris.com.ua/eng/index1.html) Slowhatch put up -- looks like our tank and our terrain. Can't determine which of their locations this pic comes from, but since the pitstop is in Kiev, can't imagine they'd go any further than Desniansky.
Yep, think those falls are a match, qingher!
