Ma Weasel under the persecution complex.
-
teams are caught off guard by a surprise ending when they arrive at the mat.
I hope it's not like last season in India where they had the false pit stop.
Since there's not much to the town of Cody, I predict a clue box at the Buffalo Bill Cody museum. Either inside or outside near the large statue of Buffalo Bill.
The Irma Hotel is another possibility.
-
I hope it's not like last season in India where they had the false pit stop.
I'm willing to wager that is what it is. I think you got it Pedaler. It says at the mat, not pit stop. It was quite a surprise last time.
-
Get ready for the eyebrow! ^/^ (I wish I had the animation of it that was posted last season)
-
It probably is the false pit stop. Good to know that Amazing Race is reusing that from a previous season. (If the eyebrow is given, someone better put the picture up here!)
-
The spoiler from Pandora (Terrestrialball) is the reason I'd vote against a TBC for this leg. She mentioned a couple of things: first, a car would be given away; second, the producers wanted a "real cowboy" to be a greeter (at the last TBC--India--Phil worked alone).

Maybe thats it!
A Car is the surprise at the mat, not a TBC just a suggestion
-
A car could be the surprise but as of now TV Guide has no mention of a eliminated team for this episode and also then we would have 3 teams going to Montana then racing through Toronto , so still ?? unless they split the 2 hour finale into 2 episodes ..?
also "teams are caught off guard by a surprise ending " , sounds like more than one team and with the caught off quard does not sound like a prize .. more of a :whew: .
I guess its wait and see till we get more info .
ETA: but Slowhatch you bring up a good point ..why have a "cowboy " & " car " brought in if its not a pitstop , right now I get it >^% ? :t-up:
Could it be that we still have the clip * dreads it * episode coming up ? like on Dec 6th or something ?
( sups I've been looking and can't find that animated eyebrow picture {l{ )
-
OK this is how I read it ..
A: "if" Wyoming is next then the car prize should be for Montana which should be EP10 making Wyoming EP11 Dec 6th .
or B: I'm reading it wrong.
Here is the scoop the way I heard it. I know ________ that
own a ranch near the Fishtail/Absarokee area in Montana. He told us a week
after the Race had started that one of the pit stops would be at this ranch.
I guess they filmed it sometime during July but he didn't pinpoint exactly
when. He also never told us how many teams were left at that time. He has
never watched Amazing Race so I don't think he would be making it up. He
told us that they wanted a "real" cowboy to greet the contestants so it must
be a pit stop. He also told us that the winners of that leg of the race win
a car because they had to bring it out to the ranch. He said some of the
teams had to leave in the middle of the night to drive to the airport in
Billings which also leads me to believe it is a pit stop.
-
Can't the Montana Pit Stop happen on Leg 11, the first half of the Finale on Dec 6th?
Opps, I think I meant Dec13th! |(
-
I wish CBS would release the finale detail already Chateau ..that sure would help .
my guess :
LEG 10)Nov29th~EP10 Cody,Wyoming (teams are caught off guard by a surprise ending when they arrive at the mat) Non-Elim??something else ?? TBC ?
LEG 11)Dec6th~ Ep 11 Fishtail/Montana Elim ( a team wins a car ?)
LEG 12 ..)Dec13th~ Ep 12 finale Toronto, Montreal and Niagara Falls /Final Pitstop? ( team spoiler/sightings July 30th ) Final 3 Teams
per Chateau :
Mon July 25 Leaving at staggered times in the morning teams drive 237 miles to Heber City to find Little Bart, Park City, Yield, ski jump Roadblock. Teams check in between 1 and 3 pm. NEL
Tues July 26 Nov. 29 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) "Don't Talk to Me like I Was an Animal or Something" Every minute counts as the Race continues towards the $1 million prize and teams are caught off guard by a surprise ending when they arrive at the mat. Leg 10 part oneTeams start between 1 and 3 am, drive to the Grand Tetons, surprise. TBC
Weds July 27 Dec. 6 Leg 10 part two Yellowstone, Elimination # 7.
Thurs July 28 Dec. 13 finale Leg 11 , Montana, Pitstop, NEL
Fri July 29 Leg 12 Toronto
Sat July 30 Toronto, Montreal
Sun July 31 Niagara Falls, Joseph Davis State Park, finito.
-
my guess :
LEG 10)Nov29th~EP10 Cody,Wyoming (teams are caught off guard by a surprise ending when they arrive at the mat) Non-Elim??something else ?? TBC ?
LEG 11)Dec6th~ Ep 11 Fishtail/Montana Elim ( a team wins a car ?)
LEG 12 ..)Dec13th~ Ep 12 finale Toronto, Montreal and Niagara Falls /Final Pitstop? ( team spoiler/sightings July 30th ) Final 3 Teams
This makes alot of sense making the car as the final 1st place prize before the million. This would also mean each episode is only an hour unlike the usual 2 hour finale.
-
Item posted today on Wikipedia summary of TAR8 lists the PITSTOP for LEG 10 to be in Fishtail, Montana at a ranch outside of Billings. This is most reliable source and has all kinds of inside information on what goes on where during all TARs (great source for checking back on former TAR races. So it looks like EP 10 is a complete episode and does not include Phil's raised left eyebrow! That would leave three teams to race on EP 11 to Toronto, Montreal, Niagara Falls, and Davis State Park
But Leg 10 could be yet another NEL (Bransens again!) since there was one report which looked pretty reliable that there were four teams on the Air Canada flight number 418 arriving in Montreal from Toronto on July 30 at 5:10PM. The four teams included one with four girls (Godlysisters); a parent and three kids (Weasels).
-
What Wikipedia does not credit for Pandora or Moi' for the Fishtail, Montana location ;) ?
Also, Pandora if your out there we would love to have you come on in and say hi that we can thank you ..promise we are nice here and hearing from you would make our day :yaya: .
)-** Wikipedia is wrong , they forgot the Wyoming leg :whsl: ..still holding out for a TBC Leg and that famous raised eyebrow. (http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7108/21047az.gif)

Item posted today on Wikipedia summary of TAR8 lists the PITSTOP for LEG 10 to be in Fishtail, Montana at a ranch outside of Billings.
Ah Ha!!!! LEG 10 not episode 10. If episode 10 is Wyoming and it is a TBC then they are still racing and technically Montana (episode 11) is still LEG 10!!!!!!! Look at season 7 and you'll see that Episode 7 & 8 are both considered the 7th leg of the race.
|#'
Now both you and puddin are right! :999:
-
Your a good detective Sups ! Right ,no mention of a pitstop in Wyoming so yeah Gman & I are both right :cheeky:
Item posted today on Wikipedia summary of TAR8 lists the PITSTOP for LEG 10 to be in Fishtail, Montana at a ranch outside of Billings.
-
Yep, all that Wikpedia lists is the final destination and none of the other events as they have for everyother TAR and other eps of TAR8; so all that is known now is the final Pit Stop of Leg 10. And Leg 10 could include an overnight along the way in the Tetons or in Jackson Hole or Cody, Wy. Just have to wait for more information to come in. And Leg 10 or Episode 10 could include an overnight in Cody and then on to Billings as we have tomorrow in Episode 9 covering Leg 9 over two days (July 24 and July 25). And remember schedulers, we are running out of time if we have the teams in Toronto and Montreal on July 30.
-
Ha Ha, the Weavers were too dumb to layer their clothes in case of non-elimination. Now they're walking around in shorts while everyone else is warm. It's gonna get real chilly up in the balloon. Think anyone will loan them some long pants --- I don't think so Tim!!

I hate to complicate matters but the balloons may not be from Park City Balloon Adventures (http://www.pcballoonadventures.com/) as originally thought. Here's another company--Morning Star--that describes itself as Park City's "premier" hot air balloon company (jeez, how many are there?). An interesting feature of their website are the photos from each days trip, searchable by date. I've included one of the July photos to show the similar balloon designs. Go here (http://www.morningstarballoons.com/gallery/index.php), choose July 2005 from the drop-down boxes, and you'll see there's a gap between 24-27 Jul. (I found the company while looking for a launch site; still haven't found it).

Phil voice: The Bransens and Linzes have a mid-air collision.
Hot-air balloons collide, then seem to run conjoined in mid-air.
Phil voice: And the Weavers confront the Linzes.
After an EQUALIZER of some sort ...
Mom Weaver: Are you sorry you wasted your YIELD?
Scene of Weavers, smiling.
Linz: Huh!?
Mom Weaver : You will be!

I had actually called one of the balloon companys when we were trying to identify the intro caps. They said the usual meeting/pick up point is across the street from the Park City Radisson. I think there is a big field there. It's probably not uncommon for more than one balloon company to take off from that same location.
We might be able to determine if that is the Radisson in the background of pic with the Weaver's walking towards the other teams.

The CBS end-of show promo seems to show that the pit stop is a normal 12-hour one, and the first teams leave close together between 1 and 2 AM, with the Weasels leaving later at about 4 or 5AM, but they all meet up again at a typical and traditional TAR BUNCHUP at the start point for the Balloon Ride. The scene of them waiting seems to be just before sunrise at 5:30AM. I would guess that the balloons get launched at around 6AM. And is it a race or just a ride before they get their next clue to drive north with their trailers to Jackson Hole, WY a mere 225 miles. Then on perhaps to Cody a distance of 150 miles which could take them through Yellowstone National Park past "Old Faithful" and/or the "mud volcano" Perhaps here is another overnight campout, and then on to Billings, Montana and the PIT STOP at the nearby ranch. Or they just drive another 150 miles on to Billings. But are we sure they go to Cody? From Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons (which we have spotted in opening flash cards) they could drive through Yellowstone past the "mud volcano" then continue north another 160 miles through Red Lodge to Billings.

Being detained by "an unpredictible volcano" could be the MUD VOLCANO located in Yellowstone National Park on the road that leads to Red Lodge and Billings, Montana. Or they could be leaving the Park on the way to Cody, Wyoming. Take your pick.

Another family breezes through an otherwise challenging task while the other teams struggle attempting to control the herd of animals.

Rebecca enjoys surfing and horseback riding. Her proudest accomplishment is getting through the turmoil of losing her father without going crazy.
Rachel is a junior in high school who likes four-wheeling and riding horses.
-
Don;t know if it matters but I think the vidcaps of what looks like the Weavers crashing isn't so afterall ..they may have just had a rough landing and bounced around abit cause you can see the dude handing them the clue .
Maybe the best clue was the end of show voiceover ? The Bransens & Linz do collide. Could be a the Weavers put a hex in the Linz team " are you sorry ? you will be !" :winkC:
NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil voice: The Bransens and Linzes have a mid-air collision.
Hot-air balloons collide, then seem to run conjoined in mid-air.
Phil voice: And the Weavers confront the Linzes.
After an EQUALIZER of some sort ...
Mom Weaver: Are you sorry you wasted your YIELD?
Scene of Weavers, smiling.
Linz: Huh!?
Mom Weaver : You will be!
-
Don;t know if it matters but I think the vidcaps of what looks like the Weavers crashing isn't so afterall ..
You're probably right. If they weren't supposed to be landing then that would mean there were 3 balloon crew flying with them and I don't think they would have that many. Also, there are people on the ground by the side of the road -- balloon chase team?
-
First, if the Weavers are "safely landing" are they landing on the side of a hill or what? Notice how small the car and people below them look. And is he actually handing the Weasels a clue, or is one of them just holding the clue with instructions about how to do the balloon ride. And do the four-person teams fly the bags by themselves, or is there an experienced crew along with them? Would you go up in an hot air ballloon when you have never flown one before?
Now this morning on the CBS Sunday Morning program there is no mention of "the latest family to be eliminated from the Amazing Race" appearing on TES this week - just plugs for Romber, the what's his name pirate winner, and the latest castoffs from Survivor. So again a hint that there is either a NEL this week, or another surprise. In today's Washington Post television magazine the plug for Tuesdaya's TAR says "A surprise ending catches the teams off guard when they arrive at the mat." Phils arched left eyebrow? An award of a car would not be much of a surprise since each winner of a leg has won either $40,000, a life-time supply of gasoline, or a trip to some exotic place. A simple non-elimination would not be much of a surprise either. So the hint is certainly pointing toward Phil's eyebrow and another TBC.
But then we have CBS's release saying "teams are detained by an unpredictable volcano on their way to the PIT STOP." Of course, this could mean that while they are heading toward the eventual pit stop after being delayed by the MUD VOLCANO IN YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, they are met with Phil's raised eyebrow at the mat (perhaps in Cody, Wyoming) and will be faced with a TBC and will eventually reach on The Next Show (Dec. 6) , the pit stop for Leg 10 at the ranch near Billings, Montana, as announced previously. :Xmas:
-
Well we don't have too much worked out .... everyone's busy with the holiday weekend so I'll take a very preliminary stab at it.
Teams make their way to Park City and take hot air balloons to a location a little north.
(They might loose their campers at this point as chase teams and SUVs follow the balloons to where they land.)
Upon landing get clue which will lead to a detour -- shovel coal or build railroad (sorry, I'm not clever with naming detours)
Get clue to travel Yellowstone and find old faithful.
Get clue to travel near Cody for roadblock, Cowboy Up.
Get clue to travel TO THE MAT
I've been searching horse, cattle and dude ranches in Wyoming to try and find one with the flags in the pic below. No luck yet. There are alot of them and not all have pictures.

No luck pegging the ranch either ..what type of hat is this and what does it mean ? something to do with the ranch?

I think I've found the location, or a location, for the balloon task.
The first is the shot from the promo.
The next is a Google earth imitation of it.
The last is a straight satelite image (i.e. looking directly down) of the location.
-
Just studying the clips looking for clues.
First pic shows both Linz and Godlewski are at the detour at the same time.
Second pic: I agree that the one in the back looks like a Weaver girl but I don't think the one in front is. The only Weaver small enough would be Rolly or Ma Weaver and with the limited clothing, the clothes don't match.
Pic three shows someone with similar clothing and the horse might be the same. Who is it? A Bransen?

Still trying to digest all that turkey and clear my brain of stuffing, cranberries, etc. eetc. But time to start trying to piece together what we do or do not know about Ep 10.
Looks like they make run to Balloon Launch site. A typical bunchup will occur as teams wait for 6AM opening. So Weasels leaving approximately 4 hours after the leaders will catch up, but still be no. 4 in the launch cycle.
What's next?
Working on the railroad. Do we have location? Utah?
Detour? Haul rails or haul coal?
Then off to a working ranch or through Yellowstone past Old Faithful and the Mud Volcano?
Working ranch seems to be Roadblock, but for two to do, herd cattle along trail and into pen?
Off to Cody, WY - Museum? Mat and the raised eyebrow for TBC?
-
Working on the railroad. Do we have location? Utah?
Gman Sups has identified the train as the 618 Heber Creeper that runs through Wasatch Utah but finding the actual railyard that they are at isn't as easy as you would think .
http://www.uen.org/counties/wasatch.html
-
I'm not taking too much stock that train 618 is used or even seen after what we saw with the Natchez riverboat and the fake Little Bart. |(
With that said, a possibility for the train depot is the Ogden Historic Union Station. It's large like the one in the vid caps and it's used as a museum. They might not have teams at an actual working depot due to safety reasons.
http://www.theunionstation.org/
Here's the Google Earth image and a pic from webshots.
-
Who knows Sups? I still like the 618 idea also ..wouldn't ya think this railyard location & cattle/dude ranch would be so easy to find ? :ballX:
( love your penguins ..heehee )
this was Slowhatch's idea back a few pages
A visit to the Golden Spike (http://www.nps.gov/gosp/map/gsmap.html.htm), maybe?
-
I think Sups' estimate is closer to the mark. All the pictures I've found of Golden Spike monument show it to be in the middle of nowhere: no rail shed, no maintenance yard, no nothing.
On a different subject, I've found some more matching pictures from the MorningStar balloon site, including the red-star balloon used and a "uniform" shot that matches Puddin's vidcaps: white shirt (with red MorningStar logo) and white khakis/chinos. Still no luck on the launch site, though.
-
Checked web site for Golden Spike National Park and they have rails there for an annual "spike driving" contests; also two working steam locomotives the "Jupiter" and "119". Also an engine house for these fully functioning replicas. The park is about two hour drive from Salt Lake City north of Ogden and Bringham City. Would make sense to visit here for "americana" theme of TAR8. Try this for more info:
http://www.nps.gov/gosp/pphtml/activities.html
Went back and checked pix on previous page about railroad activity and it certainly does not look like the
Golden Spke National Park. Perhaps the Ogden museum, since you do see a pix of ancient rail car with the Godly sisters around it.
Comment made by someone previously that we see two dudes helping the Weasels when they are up agains a hillside, that one is giving them a clue envelope. I think this wouldn't happen while they were still in balloon but afterwards when they finally land. They seem to be up on a hill and there are people watching guite below them. Did the Weasels crash against the hillside and the two crew members are trying to get them free so that they can land.
-
Here is a route that teams may take to get from the Salt Lake City area to Jackson Hole (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=from%3A+ogden,+ut+to%3A+jackson+hole,+wy&ll=42.395066,-111.187134&spn=3.637768,4.310486&f=d&hl=en). It's about 6 hours!
The Weasels, however, may opt for a 'shortcut' through Las Vegas perhaps.
The route is shown from Ogden but it could also have been made for Provo where that 618 engine lives.

There are actually 4 crew members in this shot (I thought there were 3 previously). There is someone standing outside the balloon to the right of the guy with the clue. They may have overshot the landing a bit but it's clear it isn't a crash or there wouldn't be all those crew there to assist.

The 618 runs to Provo and originates from Heber City. I didn't think they would go back to Heber City and Provo is south so I started looking at other options. I thought they would probably head north from Salt Lake towards Wyoming so I started looking for steam train depots to the north. They had one in Brigham City but it was too small. Ogden Union Station is the best option I've found so far.

Another good possi bity for the "working on the railroad" gig is at the Tooele County Railroad Museum just to the west of SLC at the junction of routes 36 and 112. It has a working steam locomotive, rail yards, a dining car, etc. See below:

The main attraction of the Tooele County Musuem is former Tooele Valley Railway 2-8-0 No. 11, built by Alco in 1910 and 2 wood Tooele Valley Railway cabooses, ex-BA&P TVR 03 and ex-D&RGW TVR 04. The steam locomotive is on display next to the original Tooele Valley Ry. Depot, now on the Register of Historic Places. The engine has been restored to its original appearance. The depot houses artifacts and displays from Tooeles heyday when the Tooele Valley Railroad served the smelter just east of town. Today the smelter and the railroad are both gone. In the small railyard visitors can view a snowplow, several freight and passenger cars, and railroad maintainance-of-way equipment.. A miniature live-steam railroad offers short rides around the museum grounds on Saturdays during the summer. Operating hours are from 1-4 PM on Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

If they go all the way to Jackson Hole for the cowboy task, they might go here:
http://www.lostcreek.com/
Lost Creek Ranch is just of many Dude Ranches in the area. The scenery around Lost Creek matches that which we had in the opening flash scenes.
So it may be here that they have to herd the cattle through the gate marked with flags.
-
I'm stumped ..anyone with good hearing ? on the CBS promo someone ( Female ) says "you guys rule this one " and its said or dubbed around the Horse task , can anyone figure out who it is ?
The clue says that one team has an easy time with the Herding so it could be that this team comes in around first to the mat ?
-
This may or may not be anything but the only time a confessional was on the previews was:
1) Ep. 6 Paolos (they won the leg)
2) Ep. 9 Linz (they also won)
3) Ep. 10 Weavers --- ???????
Could also be that TPTB know we'd figure that out so they're misdirecting us? :nonoC:
-
Oh and we have Chris Godlewski's strange confessional from last week that never mentioned and now that you mention it Sups the Weavers confessional background is recycled from last week but is different than the other team confessionals background from the library ..off to check out the insider clips IF they will play .

I finally have some time, since the holiday to post some things I definitely know and others I think I might know. What I don't know is whether it will help or not. So here goes:
First up: No it won't be colder up there. Only 2 degrees per thousand feet typically. Sometimes it is actually warmer (a temperature inversion), especially on a calm morning. Also the heat from the burners are quite toasty.
They will probably launch around 6:30am. Sunrise is at 6:20. A balloon cannot launch prior to sunrise (unless they have lighting equipment) due to FAA regulations. We also see the crown man (the guy holding the rope at top of balloon during inflation) with a shot of the sun just rising. At this point they are about 10 minutes from launching.
I suppose we need to define the word crash. Yes - both "crashes" (midair and landing) seen in the previews are perfectly normal. Some landings may be harder than others and you may drag longer on some, but in all actuality, evey landing is a controlled "crash". The midair crash is called "kissing" and all seems fine. Fabric to fabric is fine. Won't hurt a thing. Based on my knowledge and what I see here, I say no the Weasels are not harmed. I see nothing unusual.
The two guys on the side of the basket on their knees are just crew stopping the balloon. Yes it appears he has landed on a hill. My take is so they will be closer to the road. Nice pilot for doing this.....if he only knew what/who he had in his balloon. :/ He might have landed the farthest from any road.
The flight time: Based on the perceived altitude from the pictures, I can say with confidence they will be flying a minimum of 30 minutes. They would need that much time to attain that altitude and then return to the ground. I would guess that they fly closer to one hour. Their landing location will be based soley on the wind directions at those various altitudes. From the vid caps it is obvious two balloons are close together and one is a ways away. Not knowing what wind direction the winds aloft were on that day, I will base my estimated direction and distance on the pressure altitude and surface winds that day (7-26), I will estimate that they traveled about 5 miles or more ENE. from their launch location.
Launch location I have no idea. Why would they drive back to Park City? Although they would be launching from the edge of town, not near the airport and it appears based on the time of morning that they do just walk across the parking lot. If we could find the launch location, we would have the landing area.
So there you have what I think I know about the subject of Hot Air Ballooning. Now for you super sluethers if any of you are in my area, I would love to take you for a ride in my balloon! I live in the center of the US. So if you happen to pass by, look me "up". :thumbC:
-
Krazi, can you use that location I found above as a point along the way? Like a 5 km long line going ENE.

This one???
They have been up a bit by now. So it wouldn't necessarily be 5 miles from that location. Let me look at the series of in flight pictures and let me see if I might be able to determine altitude and/or some other things. I'll Mr. Krazi help me. Two heads are always better than one.
-
Yes. And, by God , it even looks like they are going ENE in this shot!
-
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR_Promo_EP10/f65e10f0.jpg)
Yes Chateau. If you can plot from just SE of Silver Summit Parkway in a ENE direction, let's say for a few miles to be safe, then I think we can look for a road with significant incline running perpendicular. Now keep in mind the balloons may or may not land in the same general vicinity of one another.
-
We can determine the direction of the road needed based on the Weaver's landing. Now the surface winds were more coming out of the SW so they would have been travelling more NE as they got closer to the ground.
Woo Hoo - I finally get to help. :danceC:
-
I'm just watching you two have a go at this {| ..nice work Krazi |#'
-
And I just got lucky because they are flying balloons. How cool is that ??? Way cool for me :)*
Well it's way past my bedtime. So I'll check in the morning and see if we can make any headway. Nite Nite
-
I believe that picture with the White building circled is the Rolls Royce Plant out there
Rolls Royce Gear 6125 N Silver Creek Dr
Park City, UT 84060 - 7041
(435) 649-1900
Not sure what help that is but just some various info.
-
Sure looks that way Sarabea. |#'
Krazi -- if it helps with the flight plan you're working on I had posted earlier that one of the balloon companies said they launch across the street from the Radisson Park City. Slowhatch found another company that was probably used (Morning Star). TAR probably used more than one company since they needed balloons for 4 teams plus some for camera crew.
"I had actually called one of the balloon companys when we were trying to identify the intro caps (Park City Balloon Adventures). They said the usual launch site is across the street from the Park City Radisson. I think there is a big field there. It's probably not uncommon for more than one balloon company to take off from that same location. We might be able to determine if that is the Radisson in the background of pic with the Weaver's walking towards the other teams."
-
thanks Sarabea |#'
Question for Krazi , if two teams collide in mid - air would it be the person manning the balloons fault or would it be no ones fault like maybe just the wind ?
-
We're getting down to the nitty gritty, so can we identify with any kind of sureness the various locations for tonight's TAR?
But first, it is pretty well assured now that there will be NO ELIMINATED TEAM on Wednesday's TES . The main attraction is our old friend from Survivor - Rupert. No mention of anything about (no commercials either) TAR8. Could the surprise be an appearance of Rupert at the mat somewhere???
Our locations:
1. Balloon Ride starting at dawn. (ROUTE TASK) Park City or somewhere else?
2. Working on the railroad (DETOUR) Ogden, Tooele, Helper, or Provo, Utah?
3. Herding cattle (ROADBLOCK) Wyoming or Montana?
4. (ROUTE TASK) Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Cody?
5. (MATT) Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Cody?
6. TBC, RAISED EYEBROW, NON-ELIMINATION, something else even?
-
Using the shadow angle of that light housing on the building:
This shot was taken between 9:15 and 9:26 am
-
:danceC: any ideas on the Roadblock Chateau ?
-
wow and wow as always! very nice work everyone. :thumbC:
i keep thinking about what they would be doing in the balloons and wondered if it would be like when they went up in the eye in london. they have to spot something before they're brought down? or maybe just go up and land close to somewhere.
i somehow think that the weavers end up first and the bransens fall back to last. leaving the linz and godlewskis the middle, likely in that order. the weavers will get there "you will regret it" moment this week.
btw, love the christmas smileys :santaC:
-
From Kraziladi regarding the balloons:
They will probably launch around 6:30am. Sunrise is at 6:20.
From Chateau regarding the railroad task:
This shot was taken between 9:15 and 9:26 am
That doesn't leave much time to get from the balloons to the rail station. I'd guess the railroad station is the Ogden one.
-
This shot was taken between 9:15 and 9:26 am
Chateau, I don't know how you do what you do but it's cool. As puddin asked, can you tell anything about the roadblock since it is probably one of the last tasks before the pit -- um mat?
I "think" that everything we see is done in one day. However ... I checked out all the clothes and this week it's hard because they are wearing warmups in the morning. The only thing that isn't working is that the Bransen girls are wearing tan pants at the detour and black pants at the roadblock.
-
thanks Sarabea |#'
Question for Krazi , if two teams collide in mid - air would it be the person manning the balloons fault or would it be no ones fault like maybe just the wind ?
It would be the pilot manning the balloon that was the highest prior to "kissing". I would not consider touching fabric to fabric a collision. Sometimes it happens due to trying to go up or down to find a specific layer of wind (for directional purposes). You do have to be very careful and maintain the same altitude as the other balloon so you remain fabric to fabric rathar than basket on fabric - that is not good ]*] . Also while "kissing" you just have to wait for the wind to take on a different direction or speed until you seperate. The pilot just basically has to wait for this to happen.
-

Good call cinni. I will lean toward to spotting something from the air ala the eye of london. I don't think they would have specified a landing sight. As much as I enjoyed my stint ballooning for reality TV ]][ (stay tuned) I would never have agreed to saying I could land in a specific location.
-
:danceC: thanks Krazi & everyone else
listening to the promo again , a Linz boy maybe Nick yells out "Ramming Speed" before the balloons kiss.
Female voice says " you guys rule this " we don't see who says it but its during the Horse roadblock and could be dubbed ..sounds like the Godlewski with the big boobies but could be anyone .
Weavers bio says they ride horses but this is herding cattle so who knows ? we don't know that the other teams have riding experience .
We see the Weavers doing Coal and the other team doing Rails ..which one is faster ? It's hard to say ..we see at least 3 teams bunched up at the rails Linz/Sisters/Bransens ...according to Walder he " shines " at the detour task ..do they place second ?
Could be the Weavers do well this round but do they take a wrong turn again on the way to the surprise waiting for them at the mat? or as cinni has posted do they get their revenge by coming in first only to find out they keep running or whatever the twist is ?
The Godlewskis are shown having a hard time with the horses ..miss-direction ?
final thoughts
Weavers first , experience
Bransen or Linz second , no idea how they do at the roadblock ?
Godlewskis shown having a hard time with the horses ..Last place ? or do they " rule "
-
Bransen girls are wearing tan pants at the detour and black pants at the roadblock.
Maybe they were instructed to wear special clothes like the racers were in Louisiana.
I "think" that everything we see is done in one day
I think the same. If so, the cowboy task can't be too far away. I would guess Southwest Wyoming because:
1) The terrain is very arid with no tall mountains in the background unlike the Jackson/Yellowstone/Cody/Fishtail area.
2) It would be fitting for a cowboy task to be performed in the Cowboy State. (that means it won't happen :lolCX:)
-
:thumbC:
I do think they will launch close to the Radisson: #1 The shot of the Weavers in the parking lot looks pre-dawn - not pitch black. #2 - The white building shown from the Linz Balloon is approximately 2.5 miles NE of the Radisson. And there is a road about a mile or so past that which appears to have a raised elevation on the southern side.
I will try to see if I can get a google map over hear. I have never tried.
-
Krazi, I did a straightline measurement with Google Earth and got 4.25 miles from the Radisson to the auto plant in the overhead shot (heading NE).
-
A close up of the white building, from the morning star balloon site.

:danceC: Thank you! And it does look as though they would be south of the white building. That is perfect. I'm just learning google maps, so not so good at estimated distances ther.

I have a gut feeling The sisters come in last too, because that pic of them alone at the railroad to me looks like they fell into last, but who knows, its just my gutt. I would say Weavers first, but i cant see them beating the Linz/Branson at detour (prolly cant beat the sisters either) so they may arrive behind while other teams struggle ahead of them, and they could only pass maybe the sisters. I am just saying becuase the past 6 legs teams have come in first in two consecutive legs (Branson 3/4, Paolo 5/6, Godlewski 7/8) so now Linz will porolly hold up the tradition. Also in London AR7 it made it look like all teams struggled and like RA stuggled way ahead of other teams.
But who knows. Like i said its just my gutt.
-
On further review, I do not feel that the railroad gig is at the Ogden Railroad Museum which is at the old Central Station in town, there is too much open space around the site, with several rail spurs with cars parked on them. Looks more like that depicted at the Railroad Museum in Tooele. Just guessing, of course.

Here is a Google Earth image that matches a promo shot.
It turns out to be taken from right in the same area as the large white building that shows up in the other shot from the Linz's basket.
The GE image below has a 4.25 mile long line going from the Park City Radisson to the white building.
-
Could this be the railroad ???? It's the Heber Valley Railroad, where Gman found the 618.

actually Sups gets the credits for the 618 Heber Creeper and I still say this is our Railroad Depot that we see , guess we'll know soon enough :grinC:
Good pictures Krazi !!
-
Soo Sorry Sups.
Then do they fly to Billings ??? and do the dude ranch the next day ???
-
Good job with the Heber Valley Railroad Krazi. I couldn't find any real pictures and the Google Earth image was too blurry. To tell the truth didn't look too hard because I didn't think they would go back to a city they just visited. Guess that's what I get for thinking! (%#
The 618 is stationed there. Sometimes the most obvious is the answer.
-
Then do they fly to Billings ??? and do the dude ranch the next day ???
They could also fly to Jackson, Wy.
I was looking at Chateau's timeline post and the race is running out of time. If they go back to Heber City, it's about a 400 mile drive to Yellowstone National Park. I don't know if the race has a whole day of driving left to spend.
-
It looks like Ma Weaver scored some souvenir t-shirts for her family from MorningStar balloons: a good move if you've just been mugged by Phil.
-
It also looks like they went down less than 2 miles from the start.
The start was the near the white building. The path or dirt road in the grass is unique and it is seen when one of the Linzes comments about going down now to start the race again.
-
I was really disappointed. How is it possible that the Linzes going in first place get stuck in last because of a technical difficulty. There better be a bunch next episode to make it up. I really like these guys and they do work great as a team.
The Sisters are getting on my nerves they scream and fight to much.
Lets just hope the Linzes get back to the first places and the Weavers and sisters to last. :danceC:

It happened last week to the sisters they went from tied for first to last also. the race was so badly planed out its been a moneth (next Tues) waiting for a elimination no wonder ratings have significantly declined. It was also so stupid making teams wait for the fountain to go off.
This race just keeps getting more rigged and rigged RA flight turns around, and the sisters, and Linz get no time credit for there camera crew totally sucking.
And until you race for a month with siblings you really cant complain about the sisters fighting becuase i think they are the most normal team ever to race. I relate to the sisters more than any other team in race history. The Linz and Branson are to nice and clean its just not real, and the weavers are just nasty. The sisters fight bicker get on each others nerves and still love each other and have fun.

Puddin, Your internet skills continue to amaze me.
A couple questions if you please:
How do you determine the URLs for the Insider videos?
If I want to view the Insider videos in Real Player, what would I change the wmv type to?
Thanks.

Oh I just got lucky with the insider clips , they forgot to add the Charmin commercial :lolCX:
Pedaler you can play the links in realone
open realone
click File , copy and paste the URL
it will open up the media browser and give you an error (Action canceled ) but give it a minute and the video should load .

<cut >
Walder : it isnt hard to see them grow up and mature I think every parent wants their children to grow and be self-sufficient ,successfull people and so its a good feeling to see them mature and be able to do that ..uh its been awile since I gotton into to the ,there not little girls anymore ..you know that hurt but uh ..you know .. uh ..their young ladies now and you have to deal with it

Puddin, could you do me a small favorino? :yaya:
I need a screen cap taken at a very special moment of the balloons rising. The exact moment is when the camera is looking up at the Bransen balloon just after it gets off the ground and the Linz balloon is already up high in the background of the shot (the Linz balloon is of course up higher than the Bransens. If you can, try to take the capture with as much of the Bransens balloon visible as possible. As the frames go by their camera rotates and some of the Bransens balloon falls off screen.
Muchas Gracias

Is this it?

Oh My God. You guys are so nice!
Here is a sketch of the shot I need! The time on my tape says 9:51 into the show (with preview and credits but commercials cut out).
-
This is the first frame I could get prior to the camera rotating; before that, it's just flames shooting out of Walter's head.

What the heck is Chateau up to now? *%#

Perfect Slohatch. Thank you so much.
Now I have a little work to do.

I was going to put this in TWoP but theschnauzers found a more elegant way to pin down the date. Here’s to accuracy.
There is a way to use the Moon to determine whether the leg took place on July 26th or July 27th. I know, everyone is groaning, but if you follow along I think you may find this satisfying.
In the past we have use the phase of the Moon to set a date for a shot. Later on, we were (or more specifically I was ) tricked by canned shots of the Moon suck in willy-nilly. How many times have we seen that airport takeoff where the wing slowly passes through the full Moon? Lots.
This time I have a whole new approach using the Moon’s position to distinguish between two dates.
This shot was taken as the Bransen’s balloon just lifts off the ground. If you look closely you will see that the Moon is also in the shot. It looks very small because the Moon subtends only one half of a degree of arc in the sky. Photographers often make the Moon look larger in photos by using a special lens. So we expect it to look larger. And there is the “Moon Illusion” (http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/3d/moonillu.htm) that psychologists have studied for years. Believe me, that is the Moon in the shot. According to this site (http://www.jgiesen.de/SME/), at 6:52 am*, on July 26th, 2005, in Park City, Utah the Moon’s altitude (the angle up from the horizon) was 51.9 °. It’s up pretty high. That’s how it manages to get into the shot. But it is not the altitude that helps us determine which day it is. The Moon’s azimuth will be the distinguishing feature of the day. In particular, what we can measure from the shot is the azimuthal angle between the Sun and the Moon.
If you ever see the Moon at the same time on two successive days you may have noticed that it has changed its position. It lags behind by about 15° each day. That is plenty big enough to measure. So (using the same site), at 6:52 am on July 26th the difference between the Sun and Moon’s azimuth angles was: 201.9 - 68.6 = 133.3°. And on the 27th it was 183.8 - 68.8 = 115.0°. Now, look at the shot. Since it was taken from almost perfectly below the balloon we can measure the angle by using the balloon itself as a big protractor. Doing that we measure that the apparent angle from the Sun to the Moon is 128°. That matches best to the 133.3° predicted by the astronomical data for July 26th.
*Here is where the 6:52 am time of shot comes from:
Driving from:
Park City High School
1750 Kearns Blvd, Park City, UT 84060
To launch site:
6250 Silver Creek Dr Park City, UT 84098
Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=from%3A+6250+Silver+Creek+Dr,+Park+City,+UT+84098+to%3A+1750+Kearns+Blvd,+Park+City,+UT+84060&f=d&hl=en) has it at 5.3 miles and taking 8 min. Let’s make that 9 min due to towing a trailer full of balloon gear.
The Weavers would be getting there at 6:00 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 = 6:39 am. The Bransen balloon appears to be a hemisphere on the ground when the Godlewskis arrive. So that amount of progress is achieved in 10 min. By the time the Linzes are a few hundred feet up the Bransens look ready to go and the Weaver’s balloon is now one of those hemispheres on the ground. So that shot was at 6:39 + 10 min = 6:49 am. . So the Bransens probably got off the ground 3 min later at 6:52 am for the looking up shot.
Thanks Slowhatch!

Amazing Race Cowboy Roster... (http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchentable/msg1123132826442.html)
just talked to Joe. (He's stuck in the meadow and was waiting for his wife to come pull him out...LOLOL). He said he was going to contact the producer, after the season ends, and ask if he could get a tape of everything filmed during the task. I enthusiastically agree.
Here's a few of his observations: He doesn't think Mr. Weaver really died but ran away. They gave him and the other fellows the lowdown on how well they could ride and how they didn't really need the safety schooling. LOL
The three brothers and sister were very VERY angry because the video equipment ran down the battery in their vehicle and put them at last place. He said they didn't take any frustrations out on them (the cowboys) but then, they probably knew they were outmuscled. LOL
The sister group were very nice, he said, to him and each other. He said the two who rode wanted to do it again.
One lady (don't know which group and Joe couldn't remember) was miffed because she was wearing shorts and thought the show producers SHOULD have warned them they would be riding horses so they'd know how to dress. I suspect it was Mrs. Weaver but we're not sure.
He said things were pretty tense during the task. It was the cowboys responsiblity to keep the teams out of trouble and make sure they didn't get hurt. Do you remember the scene where one girl had trouble stopping her horse and the cowboy was saying 'you're alright. You're alright' while he rode up to her? That was Vance and yes, he was worried. JD says he was scared when one woman stepped off and had her feet through the stirrups. Notice none of the guys were ever far away from the contestants? The producers were hoping two teams would have to move cattle at one time. Joe was relieved when it didn't happen. He said he was glad when it was over and nobody got hurt but I'll bet if you talked to any task instructors on this show they'd all say the same.
Joe says they were filmed a lot the day before the task. It'd be so great if we could see everything filmed!

Nice find, Puddin.
He said he was going to contact the producer, after the season ends, and ask if he could get a tape of everything filmed during the task.
Joe shouldn't hold his breath on that one; even racers don't get their own footage.

sorry the @$@#$$#@ link wont work (:;)

Here's a quote from the same message board:
The cattle are my brother's Jamie.
The cowboys brought their own horses.
The horses the race people rode are from an outfitter in Star Valley. I went a on wagon train with this outfitter a few summers ago and took pictures.
It might be that the same outfitter was used to supply the wagons for Ep11. Here's a list (http://www.starvalleywy.com/ofits.htm) of Star Valley outfitters. There's more than one company offering "covered wagon" adventure vacations; I suppose the covers could easily be stripped off for TV work.

Nice discovery Puddin! I shared a little bit of it at TWoP where they have a lively discussion on the Weasels thread. Hope you don't mind.
