Title: I love Rob and Amber!!!! Appreciation Thread !!
Post by: puddin on February 04, 2005, 04:29:07 PM
Survivors Rejoin Reality
The latest reality stars to join ''The Amazing Race.'' Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich on why one million isn't enough by Josh Wolk

REALITY CHECK Brkich and Mariano want to win again

Hey, Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich: You just won $1.25 million on Survivor: All-Stars (counting Rob's second-place prize); what are you gonna do now? Forget Disney World, they're gonna try and get themselves another cool mil on CBS' The Amazing Race 7 (March 1). We caught up with reality TV's craftiest couple right before they hit the starting line.

When did CBS ask you to do the Race?
AB We just started mentioning it everywhere we went. [Reporters would] ask, ''So what's next?'' ''Well, we want to be on The Amazing Race.'' And CBS caught word, and next thing you know...

Will you not be happy until you've won all the money?
AB Why not?
RM We're just here to have a good time this time. Oh, we're taking the money home, too. Don't get me wrong. But we're here to have a good time.

Many Survivor alumni have pimped themselves out to other reality shows like The Surreal Life. Why haven't you done more?
RM A lot of people don't realize that you're not gonna make a serious acting career out of being on a reality show. And we get that. We're still gonna have fun while we can, but we're not nickeling and diming ourselves to every little offer that comes along. I've always loved Amazing Race, and she has too. For us, it's about having a good time and the money. The image and all that s---, who cares?

Since you guys already have a million bucks, will every other team on The Amazing Race want you out first?
AB Going back on Survivor would be pointless for us, because they would want to get rid of us right away. This show, they can't.
RM Yesterday they had an information meeting about the race. They mentioned the yields [where contestants can stall another team], and I'm thinking, Every single friggin' team is looking at us.... Then again, they can't use the yield on us if we get there before them.

Are the losers of Survivor: All-Stars still mad at you?
RM To some people, that was their life. Since that opportunity's gone, they realize they're not getting another one, and they'll never be able to let that go.

But, hey, at least they've got their moral high ground.
AB [Mimicking the holier-than-thou losers in the finale] ''I never told one lie'' — well, who cares, you didn't win a million dollars, either.

Title: Rob And Amber officially set for next AR
Post by: RudyRules on February 05, 2005, 08:49:54 PM
Altho I didn't like Rob & Amber on Survivor...I think they'll be a fun couple on TAR! ]#*
They got along real good on Survivor, interacted nicely, worked together, kept their cool. That doesn't mean everything will be hunky-dory in the Race, but for the most part...they'll be a GR8 team. I'm really looking forward to them being on! Cool! (^.# |#'

|#'I wanted them to win Survivor and would love to see them win TAR. They out-smarted and out-played all those on All-Stars. The former survivors should have known better to break them up and had the chance but blown it. Why is it their fault for playing a great game? /^^ I wouldn't have done it any different....remember it was for a million dollars.

I think Rob and Amber with their strong cunning abilities will go far. Will they win it?? I dunno. But it will definitely be an interesting TAR season with them on it. ]#*

GO ROMBER!!! ]#[

So im not that big of a TAR fan, I like it but Tuesdays are kinda rough. That said im watching this season cause I love the Romber and will deffinately be cheering for them. So im looking at the contestants for this season and the Brian guy thats with his brother Greg looks very very familar. So I had to think about it but about a year ago on the Fear Factor Christmas edition they got to pick presents to see what they had to eat. Well guess who was on that edition, and guess who picked the ant covers sack of crap. Then he sat there and talked and ran his mouth while Joe Rogan told him to eat well needless to say he ran out of time with the last bite in his mouth. Joe Rogan told him to go home and he lost it. So he will defiantely make for good TV when he looses, to Rob and Amber!!

I hope Romber will be entertaining. I do think that a third chance at a million bucks is a bit much, especially after one of them already won (and is sharing with the other, I suppose). That said, TAR will be a very different experience for them. We all know that winning or losing can hinge on a plane, train, or taxi. I too expect them to do well (and we have a quote from a TAR producer confirming that). It will depend on the other teams as to whether I'll be rooting for them. I'm going in with an open mind. I'd rather see Romber than some of the other ex-Survivors (such as Big Tom, Richard Hatch, or Lex).

Other teams I'd love to see race:
Hunter and Gina
Brandon and Kelly Goldsmith
Frank and T-Bird
Vecepia and Neleh (ha ha, just kidding on that one!)

yes, I think so, Rob. Maybe it will be like a car wreck, and you won't be able to turn away, even as your stomach churns in disgust.

Hey, about little mustaches and horns on the Romber photo? That would be an improvement.

I'm still waiting for Ami and Eliza. Maybe, Ami, Eliza, Leann, and Julie can go on the family one together? |#'

I hope they do well. I think they played survivor well and people hate them for that. I think they will be entertaining and will be a competitive. As others have said, there is some luck on the road blocks, detours and plane, trian and automobiles in this game. A little different challenge then survivor.

I think tar will get a little bit of survivor fans because of Rob and amber. I do think being at the same time as (different day) survivor could also hender the show ratings.

I want to join this lovefest thread. ]#[ I am a big Rob and Amber fan and am glad to see that they will be on TAR7. I think they will do well in the detours and roadblocks. I wonder how many gross eating ones they will do for this one. It seemed that TAR5 had contestants eating caviar, ostrich eggs, biting chocolate and TAR6 had the the spicy soup one which grossed me out and the deep dish pizza. I wonder if they will give TAR7 more Fear Factor like delicacies to honour Rob and Amber. Isn't chocolate covered cockroaches a delicacy in some country? I myself wouldn't consider that a delicacy but....

Its too early in the game to be anti-anybody or pro-anybody and I dislike all the negatives being spewed out in that other thread against Romber. If anyone of us were invited to participate in TAR we would jump over barrels for the chance. So lets not just sour-grape about Romber being on TAR7. Personally, I think that they will do well, they seem physically fit, attractive, and compatable (something I can not say about some of the other teams on TAR7 and other TARs) I think they are in it because the enjoy TAR and will do what they can to win without other teams banding together to "vote them off next"; in TAR you win or fail on your own. So my pick at the moment is that they are 3 to 1 which means I expect to see them around in the Final Three.

)') gingerman.  You express it very well.  (^.#  I totally agree.  What you stated about "win or fail on your own" is the key to the controversy about Romber!  I've given that a lot of thot & even tho I have not cared much for Romber in the past, I find myself now supporting them, b/c this IS a total different ball game than Survivor!  Each team is on their own and will win or lose based mainly on their mental/physical abilities. Yeh, there will be obstacles, but each team must figure out ON THEIR OWN...the best way to beat the obstacles.  Romber has the right to be there as much as anyone else...and if they get thru the Race w/o bickering/backbiting/insulting each other? I say KUDOS to them (and any team!) who can accomplish that.  I'm just so sick and tired of previous ARs w/ constant yelling/bickering/badmouthing/disrespecting each other.  Release from frustration & pressure can be handled in dignified ways.  I hope Romber convey dignity & show the world they can disagree agreeably and show respect for each other.  Sooo...right now?  I am wishing them my best....giving them the benefit of the doubt. Each team deserves that from their viewers!  If they prove me wrong & act like a$$es...well...I won't like them any better than I liked previous TAR teams.  ]//{
But initially...I'm giving them a chance.... |*|

You're right Gingerman! I guess it's not Romber that I hate! It is cBS for asking them to come back one more time! |(

TAR used to be made up of mostly ordinary people like you and me. Lately, TPTB have gone after models and actor wannabes. I don't mind a few, but when the majority are that way it disappoints me.

Besides Romber though, this season does look to have a lot of down to earth people. |#'

Rob and Amber find it Amazing some Race rivals detest them
By Inside Track
Thursday, March 3, 2005

``Boston'' Rob Mariano and his paramour, Amber Brkich, might be America's Sweethearts but they aren't exactly Mr. and Ms. Popularity on the set of their latest reality-show adventure, CBS' ``The Amazing Race.''

The ``Survivor'' couple, who made their ``Race'' debut Tuesday night, are feeling overrun by their fellow racers' contempt, according to TV Guide.

``I'm glad we have this opportunity to go head-to-head with them because I've always disliked them,'' trash-talked playwright-composer Patrick Vaughn who, with his mom, Susan, makes up one of the 10 teams trying to beat Rob and Amber.

Apparently, some of the contestants are miffed that the TV sweeties - who reportedly will tie the knot in yet another TV reality special - have already won $1.25 million between them from their ``Survivor'' stints.

Not to mention the fact that the Canton homey and his galpal are finding it somewhat easier to gain favors from strangers - a key component in ``Race'' strategy - because they are recognized by ``Survivor'' fans! And after all, there is $1 million up for grabs in ``Amazing Race.''

``I've never felt that much hate toward me before,'' says Amber. ``People were giving us looks and rolling their eyes.'' :-\

Added Rob: ``It bothered me because it was upsetting her, but I love to be the underdog.Bring it on!'' |5|

Executive Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says he doesn't feel too badly for the competitive twosome.

     ``They came after us,'' he said. ``They loved the show and wanted to be on it.'' {l{

They may have all not liked them, nbut they showed they are compteitors and when you are in a race you want to win agianst good teams ~ strong teams!!!

How many other TAR teams would have gotten out of their cab and helped move the car that was broken down?? I also think if that car would not have been broken down then they probably would have gotten first.

I Can see a few teams maybe changing their opinion of them. I can also see a few teams wanting to make a real alliance. Hey if people are going to hlep them, why not tag along to help you in a few legs!

He also bribed a bus ticket agent not to tell other teams that the 7 a.m. bus got to the destination earlier than the 6 a.m. bus.

i can't believe i'm posting this. but rob's strategy of using the lower placing teams to get ahead of the higher placing teams is very smart. they'll keep helping him as he knocks off the smarter/faster teams. then he should be able to easily race ahead of them. no one's ever thought of this kind of alliance. it's very close to his all stars strategy and it could take him farther in the game.

Say what you will about Romber but they are out to WIN just for the fun of it. Working with Ray to keep the back door on the bus closed was one stroke of genius. And did you notice that he had the book stacking thing so worked out not one book fell off the cart and he and Amber made it in only one trip. Ron and Kelly got them all there in one trip, but they kept falling off. The other three teams had to made two trips as they could only stack about 100 on the cart instead of the entire 180. Look out you other teams he and Amber have experience Outwiting, Outplaying, and Outlasting the other teams!!
Title: Romber Alert !

Amber Alert!

On ''The Amazing Race,'' the teams have to play by Rob's rules: The Survivors are the fittest in the second leg, outwitting, outlasting, and outplaying the other teams by Josh Wolk

THE BLONDE LEADING THE BLONDE Megan and Heidi couldn't get their routes done

Last week there was much chatter that Rob and Amber had too many unfair advantages as a result of their Survivor fame to make this game fair: Witness the American who recognized them and helped them out in Peru. But this week it seemed that no one in either Peru or Chile was a fan of the All-Stars and they still came in first. It's time for everyone to concede that Rob is just a great player. (As for Amber, it's time to concede that she sure looks cute as a button standing next to a great player.) Actually, their having won Survivor should be an advantage for everyone else who saw their strategies televised, not them: It was like being given game films of another team before the Super Bowl. But did anyone learn the right lessons? No.

Perhaps Rob has some kind of supernatural mind-erasure powers. The same thing happened in All Stars: No one remembered that he had broken all of his promises on Marquesas. He was one of the least trustworthy players to step onto the All-Stars island, and yet everyone trusted him, including Kathy, who had been on that previous season with him. How far does Rob's power to cloud people's mind extend? As an experiment, I would like to see Rob stand in a room holding a pencil; after dropping the pencil, he would ask someone to pick it up. When the person did so, he would kick them in the ass. Then he would apologize, take the pencil back, and drop it again, asking the person — still rubbing their own smarting ass — to pick it up again. I'm guessing that this would go on for about six hours straight, only stopping when Rob's pencil-holding fingers cramped up.

And now, the Race competitors stared in disbelief when he bribed a security guard not to tell anyone about an earlier bus and then lied about it. The indignation on Debbie's face when she said, ''It makes me nauseous,'' was laughable. Remember how self-righteous everyone on the All-Stars jury was over Rob's lying? And how many of them went home with a million dollars? Exactly. So stop complaining and start playing the game.

The ones I feel bad for are Ray and Deana and Uchenna and Joyce, whom Rob enlisted in an alliance and quickly persuaded to fund his bribe. I used to work at Lifetime Television, and my job was to watch every single one of their TV movies to make five-second promos. I painfully recognize these teams' sad, self-defeating dedication to Rob as the story line of every abused-wife weeper in the Lifetime library. Rob will keep telling Ray and Uchenna separately, ''No, you're the one we're with to the end. I care about you the most.'' Then each player will buy Rob a sandwich or give him a piggyback ride through Namibia, and Rob will screw them both over at the detour and easily get first place again. Then when those two exhausted and bedraggled teams finally crawl across the finish line, barely avoiding elimination, Rob will pull them both aside again individually and say to each, ''I'm so glad you're here. I love you, and we're in it together.'' And they'll perk up, saying, ''Gosh, Rob, you mean it? Allies forever?'' Even if Phil Keoghan tries to stage an intervention — saying, ''He's no good for you! You can make it on your own!'' — they'll reply, ''You don't know him like I do, Phil. The way he looks at me when he's tied my knapsack to a pygmy and stolen my cab. . . . He really cares.'' I'm seeing Meredith Baxter Birney as Ray.

What it all boils down to is that Rob is a great player, mentally and physically, not to mention extremely entertaining to watch. I'm not seeing much competition for him. Ron and Kelly? Kelly's only on the second leg and she's already showing signs of crankiness. But I suppose that's the only good thing about being a POW — you always have a comeback for a snippy girlfriend: ''Oh, you told me we should have taken all the books on one trip? Sorry, they never taught book stacking in the Iraqi prison.'' Whaddya know, another argument won!

Lynn and Alex seem like fun guys, although I was surprised they shot their wad by using their ''bringing up the rear'' double entendre this early in the show, if you'll pardon both of our puns. It's a marathon, not a sprint, boys. And the way Lynn was sweating during a shoeshine challenge does not bode well for any physical challenges. If they ever do a hat-blocking competition, he's liable to keel over from a coronary.

Patrick seems to think he's a mastermind, but why then were he and Susan shocked to be out of money to buy the fish when they had just run out of money on a challenge mere hours before? With that short-term memory problem, I'm giving them 36 hours in the Rob-drops-a-pencil game. And could someone explain Patrick's mystery head wound to me? After the shoeshine challenge he had a bloody gauze pad above his eye, but by the time he landed in Santiago, there was no bandage, and no visible scar. Did Mommy kiss it and make it all better? Or did Mommy actually cause the wound when she kicked him in the head after he spent all their pesos on ''I Hate Rob'' bumper stickers?

As for Gretchen and Meredith, good Lord. I can't even concentrate on how good a team they might be, I'm so distracted by Gretchen's incessant monotonic hollering. I can't tell if Meredith is running to win the race or to get away from her. Which leaves Greg and Brian (whom I never could tell apart, so I will refer to both of them as ''Grian''), who stayed in the game only by barely outrunning the equally indistinguishable Megan and Heidi. Things don't bode well when you're struggling for last place against two women with their sorority letters on the butts of their sweatpants. At the end, Megan or Heidi — what's the difference? — proudly declared, '' 'I can't' never came out of our mouths.'' Well, Hegan or Meidi, here it is out of mine: You can't.

What did you think? Are Rob and Amber going to win the race in a walk? Who is most likely to give them a run for the money?

To answer Wolk's questions Are Rob and Amber going to win the race in a walk? Who is most likely to give them a run for the money?...Nope...NOT a walk. Rob has been working his strategies from Day 1 & will continue unless they run into some verrrrry bad luck beyond Rob's control.
I think Susan/Patrick, Ray/Deana & U/J will give them a good run for their money...esp S/P!
Patrick seems to be the most paranoid about Romber & scheming to outwit them.
Ray/Kelly are too occupied w/ their relationship issues to be thinking much about anti-rob strategies! ]][

Love them or not, but you have to give Rob credit for knowing how to play the game. He and Amber have brought a new look to TAR and he is applying the rules of Survivor: Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast to The Amazing Race. Even Phil has been struck dumbfounded with what they have been able to do so far in just three eps. Give Rob credit for knowing the rules and knowing how to work them to your advantage. He knew exactly what he had to do at the Detour: quit while other teams were still out and nearly at the detour site so he would not have long to wait before his penalty clock started. And he was smart enough to know that if he could get just one more team to quit after their penulty clock started, they would be guaranteed not to come in last since the other team's penalty clock would not start until the next team arrived. I think he also nows realizes one of the tricks of the trade is not to worry about coming in first in each leg, but just concentrate on not coming in last: always keep one team behind you. There is at least one bunchup point iin each leg of the race and he saw how his three hour lead over the last place team disappeared at the bunching up at the car park waiting for it to open at 5AM with all nine teams there together waiting. He and Amber may not win, but I think they will go far and will give an added boost to the ratings each week as people tune in to see if and when Romber fails (just as the ratings for Jeopardy grew and grew and grew as Ken went on to win and win and win!)

Thanks for the excellent recap, Gingerman. You are right on the money!
I was LOL...evne clapping...absolutely in awe at Rob's cunning strategy! |#' Rombers are really helping this 7th TAR season AS WELL AS...over all...the entire cast. It is the best since the premier season, IMO.
Very well balanced, charming, interesting, entertaining personalities. I can't think of any team whom I dislike. The only team that grated my nerves a bit was the hillbilly guy team who got philiminated first. Not that I have anything against hillbillies, but their 'lingo' was kinda hard to listen to! Now Tom from S3 Africa was a hillbilly, but I liked him. (most of the time). Just a few times, his talk bugged me.
  (^.# Anyways, kudos to whoever picked the cast for TAR7!  Love this season's show!  }^!  })}

You all know I'm torn about Romber. Yes, they're good, and even if you think it isn't fair that they came in first after not completing the Roadblock last leg, they made up the time fair and square. They did luck out that the earlier plane waited for them. We know that doesn't always happen, ex-Survivors or no. I just wish Rob weren't so darned self-satisfied. I suppose he wouldn't be Rob if he were humble.

Ok, back to the appreciation....

It is always interesting to speculate on what the producers leave out during the editing. Last night was a good case in point. Lynn and Alex left the hacienda at 3:49AM and arrived at Cabana La Guatana at 6:00AM. That is a time span of two hours and 11 minutes to drive a total of 25 miles!!! Rob and Amber left at 6:59AM and after "getting lost" still completed the Roadblock at 9:00AM. They must have been speeding. But it gets better. They complete the Roadblock at 9:00AM and drive the 25 miles to the Mendoza airport, park the car, carry their bags into the airport, and check in and still make the 9:30AM flight departure! Rob must have really been racing down the highway! And their luck continues (just as Gus and Kim lucked out by being last at the airport in Canada) since they boarded the airplane in Mendoza LAST, their bags were off loaded FIRST!. And so much for airport security abroad (no check in at least 30 minutes before departure in Mendoza!) Rob and Amber still manage to keep ahead of the crowd; even if the get Yielded later on, I do not think that they can be stopped by the other teams; the other teams are just going to have to do better. Question? Can one team be Yielded by more than one team at the Yield? I know each team can only use the Yield once during the race, but could the other teams all yield Rob and Amber at the same spot? This may be the only way to slow them down!

Guessing the answer is no, since each team has a name tag and I doubt that more than one team could attach their tag to someone already Yielded. The Yield is "courtesy of..." one team.

The Amazing Race - Rob and Amber ruffle more feathers with a win
Scott Tady, Times Staff
03/23/2005

Luck, persuasion and her future hubby's horse-riding skills carried Amber Brkich to another first-place finish in CBS's "The Amazing Race."

By finishing the fourth leg of the worldwide race ahead of seven other teams, Brkich and fiance Rob Mariano won a free trip to London. Two weeks ago, another first-place finish earned the duo a trip to the Bahamas.

"That's two trips down, two first places down, and more to come," Brkich confidently said, as the Brighton Township native and her Boston beau moved closer to "The Amazing Race's" $1 million grand prize.

They overcame some obstacles in Tuesday's episode.

At one point, Brkich and Mariano seemed hopelessly lost on a lonesome Argentina highway, but somehow the couple ended up promptly at the proper destination - a horse ranch.

Pleasantly surprised by their luck, Brkich commented, "Somebody's watching over us, that's for sure."

After acing a horse riding challenge, Mariano convinced an airport gate worker to let him and Brkich board an early flight to Buenos Aires. With the airplane on the runway just moments away from taking off, Brkich and Mariano's unexpected arrival on the jet angered four other teams who had thought they finally had ditched the "Survivor" sweeties.

"No freakin' way ... that's horse crap," said the team of California brothers Brian and Greg, disgusted by how Brkich and Mariano weaseled their way onto the plane.

"I hate them. I hate them so much," added Alex, who along with his boyfriend, Lynn, repeatedly have voiced their animosity toward Brkich and Mariano.

"They're kind of like an STD," Lynn said about Brkich and Mariano. "You've got to protect yourself from them. ... I detest them."

But Mariano made a new friend in Argentina, a motorboat driver named Carlos who helped the couple complete a challenge where they had to find a shipwreck. Mariano showed his gratitude by giving away his favorite fashion statement - a Boston Red Sox ballcap - to the Argentinian man.

Mariano and Brkich felt fortunate to have reached the shipwreck after the rough waters threatened to disable their boat.

"I tell you, we just keep getting lucky," Mariano said.

They were much luckier than the mother-son combo of Susan and Patrick, who reached the finish line last, and were eliminated from the contest. Patrick also had been highly critical of Mariano and Brkich.

I am so glad they are on the Amazing Race as I look forward to it each week to see how they do. Has anyone else noticed how nice Rob is to all the people he meets along the way. He says hello and asks them their name, very personable. Gotta like that. I like his smile and I enjoy the clips they have him talking. Amber is lucky to have him. They do make a very nice couple and I can see they will have a nice future together. I must also add that after every episode of TAR, my two co-workers that didn't care for Rob and Amber are now becoming fans of their racing skills. So even if you don't care for him you gotta commend Rob on his great racing skills. So once again, I am so glad that Rob and Amber are on this series of TAR as I was starting to lose it with the last sets of bickering couples that were wearing me out. Okay enough of the lovefest for now. ]**] ]**] }4{ ]*[ <[/ ]#*

IF you notice you never see Amber say its 9:00 its a voice over so i think they were there before 8 and they just did that to make it seem close. As for there bags comming out first. The order went Rob and Amber-Brian and Gregg-Ron and Kelly-Uch and Joyce-and Lynn and Alex backward from they got on the plane and the second plane was the same Pat and Su were out first followed by Deana and Ray and Meri and Gretchen last. Thats just the way the plan baggage works not the producers helping Rob and Amber.

One comment.....all the articles and comments keep saying all the other teams are mad at Romber...all 4 teams were mad at Romber making the plane.....However you never see U/J saying specifically I do not like romber. Even on the plane the had a shocked look but not a comment.

I think this is one of two things...they have a secret alliance with Romber. OR they are getting good editing as they make it far in the game.

Also i agree with everyone they are playing the game well and are workign well together.

I went back and checked and so far Rob and Amber have won the following:

Five nights at the Atlantis, Bahamas

Five nibhts at a luxury hotel in London, England

Five nights at a hotel in Monte Carlo.

That makes up a pretty good honeymoon trip so far. To round it out they need a stay in CanCun, Mexico and finally in Hawaii.

Amazing' Rob: `Survivor' veteran and fiancee turn reality TV on its ear
By Amy Amatangelo
Monday, April 18, 2005 - Updated: 12:32 AM EST

What hath Romber wrought?

``Boston'' Rob Mariano, along with fiancee Amber Brkich, has given the seventh season of CBS' ``The Amazing Race'' (tomorrow at 9 p.m. on WBZ, Ch. 4) more plot twists than a Shakespearean play. The man famous for breaking alliances has brought his conniving ``Survivor'' ways to reality TV's most dignified competition.

``Rob is changing the way `Amazing Race' is played,'' ``Survivor'' host Jeff Probst said in a recent telephone interview.

``I think it will make for a better show. I like `The Amazing Race,' but I think the show could benefit from a little more of this. The next time people play this game, they're going to be playing with a lot more (gusto) than they have previously.''

The ``Survivor'' lovebirds have dominated the game, and along the way to the pit stops, they have avoided several classic ``Amazing Race'' roadblocks.

For one thing, they have yet to bicker. While couples in previous races have revealed the ugliest underbellies of their relationships, Mariano and Brkich are as happy as two immunity idols at tribal council.

They also haven't yelled at their taxi driver (an ``Amazing Race'' staple) or made xenophobic remarks about the country they are visiting.

But the other teams are brimming with venom for the pair. It must sting that the fame Brkich and Mariano earned coming in first and second on ``Survivor: All-Stars'' has done nothing but help them. Random strangers recognize the duo and eagerly volunteer to help them along the race.

Mariano charmed players to drop out of a challenge when he didn't want to eat the unappealing food and just last week persuaded another team not to yield them (force them to stop) when they had the chance.

``Needless to say, I don't think we're going to be getting any Christmas cards from these people,'' Mariano said in a recent episode.

``People underestimate Rob. The guy is super smart and he's playing really competitive, and the fact that nobody else has thought of quitting a challenge as a strategic move shows you how well he knows that game,'' Probst said.

But the pinnacle (or nadir depending on how you look at it) came when Mariano drove right by another team that had crashed their car.

``Rob certainly put the final nail in the coffin of making him the greatest reality villain ever when he drove past the accident. Even I kind of went, `Whoa, Rob. Wow,' '' said Probst, who continues to stay in touch with the couple.

Reality scoundrels or not, Mariano and Brkich are two of the genre's most recognizable stars and the duo is unabashedly riding the reality show wave. While rumors of their televised wedding circulate, let's take a moment to ponder the couple's next step:

A GAME SHOW: With his winking persona, Mariano easily could host a show. Love him or hate him - he's fun to watch. Perhaps if the man Mariano always referred to as ``pretty-boy Probst'' ever gets tired of wearing khakis, he could pass the, um, torch to Mariano. Something tells us Brkich would be excellent in a Vanna White role.

THE NEXT ``NEWLYWEDS'': Forget the skankfest known as Britney and Kevin. Rob and Amber are the clear successors to Nick and Jessica. The time is ripe for the cameras to chronicle the first year of Romber's wedded bliss. Mariano remains positively smitten with his island galpal. After viewing a palace a man had built for his girlfriend in India, he told her, ``Imagine if I built you a palace, it would look twice as nice.''

``FEVER PITCH 2'': Frankly, we don't understand how Mariano failed to get the Jimmy ``I'm really a Yankees fan'' Fallon role in the first place.

Title: 'Survivor' sweethearts stay ahead of the game in 'Amazing Race'

'Survivor' sweethearts stay ahead of the game in 'Amazing Race'
By Amy Amatangelo/ Boston Herald
Friday, May 6, 2005

"Boston" Rob Mariano and his "Survivor" spouse Amber Brkich continue to dominate the seventh season of "The Amazing Race." Once again, the reality lovebirds, who met and fell in love on "Survivor: All-Stars," came in first in last night's episode.

The love-'em-or-hate-'em duo are now one of three remaining teams vying for the million dollar prize in next Tuesday's two-hour finale.

Meredith and Gretchen Smith, the oldest competitors ever to make it this far in the game, were eliminated. They made their game-ending blunder early in this leg of the race. Both the Smiths and Uchenna and Joyce Agu took the later but direct flight from Istanbul to London. Mariano, Brkich, Ron Young and Kelly McCorkle took a connecting flight through Frankfurt, Germany, and arrived in London an hour and a half ahead of the other teams.

As always, Mariano and Brkich benefited from their brazen combination of luck, strategy and fame. In London, they hooked up with a lovely chap named Stuart who shuttled the pair around the city. "This guy is pumped to be with us. Let's see if we can lure him in and keep him with us all day long," Mariano said. The unapologetic couple keeps on making enemies on their way to the pit stops. They yielded closest competitors and former allies Young and McCorkle.

Young and McCorkle escalated their incessant bickering. Former beauty queen McCorkle appears to think the game will serve as some sort of couple's therapy. "I used to think I could marry Ron. Now I'm just not sure if he is the one for me or if I'm the one for him. That's what this race will show us," she said.

All teams lost it during a "roadblock" that required one member of a team to drive a double-decker bus in and out of orange cones without ever hitting a cone. Even mild-mannered Joyce was pushed to her limits. "I can't understand what the hell you're saying to me," she screamed at her husband.

However, if there were a prize for being the nicest team, the million dollars would easily go to the Agus. Uchenna even tried to help the Smiths with a particularly heavy task until he was reminded that aiding another team was against the rules of the game. *(^

Question Celebrity

By With Hank Stuever

Sunday, May 8, 2005; Page W04

I'm dead last to arrive at "The Amazing Race," the competitive CBS reality show that's been on, uh, forever. I only got hooked last fall, sucked in by weepy Victoria and her verbally and ultimately physically abusive husband, Jonathan. The duo so disturbed viewers' sensibilities--and boosted ratings--that CBS was left with no other choice than to sentence the couple to a public therapy session (scolding, really) with "Dr. Phil" McGraw. And again, I wonder: If "real" people provide so much drama and ready access, if 13 years of reality television (I count back to the first season of MTV's "The Real World") has taught people how to behave like pampered celebrities, then why on Earth do we need actual celebrities?

Or, when did all Americans begin to think of themselves as (and behave like) big stars ? Did it start with winning World War II? Is it rooted in the global triumph of our pop culture? Is it all those modern schoolchildren made to sing "I Believe I Can Fly"?

The current "Amazing Race"--the series' seventh season, which concludes Tuesday--adheres to the basic plot line: couples tromping imperiously and rudely through exotic corners of the (mostly third) world. Viewers quickly learn that the prettier, more telegenic couples are for some reason--confidence? a raging sense of entitlement?--more likely to come in first. And so we have Rob and Amber, "Survivor" alums, blithely making their way to the winner's circle, as if it's the easiest thing they've ever done.
And it's not. It looks hard and unhappy. Everyone is reduced to a shrieking American diva, too busy to take in the details of the world around her. All that screaming at cabdrivers--"Fast, fast! You understand 'fast'? Rapido, rapido," whether or not the poor dude speaks Spanish.

All that use of the word "baby"--"Come on, baby. You can do it. I know you can do it, baby. Hurry up, baby. Please stop yelling at me, baby, or I'll shove this oar . . ."

So, what about you? Are you deliberate, polite, able to ponder unfamiliar cultures and enjoy the unplanned tangent, insatiably curious about what you're seeing and the people you're meeting? Then forget winning "The Amazing Race." You're not traveling like a fast-edit superstar, which is, increasingly, the only way to go.

Rob & Amber: With These Gifts 'I Do'

May 18, 2005
"Boston" ROB MARIANO and AMBER BRKICH fell in love amid grueling challenges and scarce food on "Survivor," and they played out their engagement on the small screen as they criss-crossed the globe for "The Amazing Race." So it's only fitting that the TV twosome gets married in front the world in a new CBS special. But before their "I do's" air on May 24 (9 p.m.), Rob and Amber reveal what wedding gift they've picked out for each other!

"There's nothing better than this, Rob's going to die!" Amber gushes.

The top-secret present that "Survivor" winner Amber's been working on for weeks is an original painting of Rob's beloved Boston Red Sox. "Everyone saw him on TV wearing his Red Sox hat wherever he goes," Amber says. "People call him Boston Rob -- his nickname is after the city -- so he's a pretty big Red Sox fan.

To make it even more special, Amber hauled the large painting to spring training to have it signed by a number of the star players, a trip she wishes Rob could have been a part of. "He would love to be here right now, to meet the players," she says. "He's going to be slightly upset about that, but he's going to understand."

But there will be nothing for Amber to be upset about when she lays her eyes on her shimmering present from Rob.

"I designed Amber's engagement ring over a year ago and I thought what would be really cool, and really sentimental and really from the heart is if I got her some diamond earrings that mirrored the engagement ring," Rob tells ET.

He says he feels the diamond baubles are ideal for his lady. "The earrings are definitely a perfect present for Amber because as long as I've known her she's worn fake diamond earrings," he says. "I figured we're getting married and she won't do it for herself. I've got to splurge on my girl so I got her the real deal."

The CBS special, "Rob And Amber Get Married," not only features the pair exchanging vows, but it will also include a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for the wedding, filmed at the famous Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas, Amber's bridal shower, their bachelor and bachelorette parties and the rehearsal dinner.

For more on Amber and Rob, watch tonight's ET!

Title: Create Your Own Rob-Amber Wedding
Post by: puddin on May 24, 2005, 12:44:05 PM
Create Your Own Rob-Amber Wedding
(CBS) Tuesday night, CBS is airing a 2-hour special "Rob And Amber Get Married," and the whole thing was designed and planned by celebrity party planner Colin Cowie.

He also happens to be an Early Show contributor, and Tuesday morning, he recreated a few of the elements of the wedding to give you a sneak preview of the special and to offer ideas to people who may be planning their own weddings.

The entire wedding was really all about beach chic.

"I took inspiration from standing on the beach with the water in front of me," Cowie says, "The colors we used were all inspired by the surroundings, so they were colors of wet sand to dry sand, i.e. ivory to dark beige and accented with gorgeous turquoise/aqua, which came straight out of the Bahamian sea."

Initially, he says he didn't get much direction from the couple and notes the whole thing was planned in just 30 days. The following is the explanation of how he incorporated his ideas.

The setting for the ceremony:

Offer special seating arrangement - Says Cowie, "Rather than having a traditional set-up for the ceremony, we made it so that the aisle actually weaved throughout the seating of the guests. So everyone got the see them walking down the aisle, and it flowed the way a beach wedding with the ocean behind it should flow.
Fill ceremony with ritual - Says Cowie, "I always believe that standard preacher ceremonies are as interesting as watching paint dry, and today, the most important thing is to personalize them and fill them with ritual so we, as guests, can be involved. In addition to some special elements we incorporated for Rob and Amber and their guests, I also gave them a directive to go out and come up with amazing surprises for each other, which they did."

Make it personal - Cowie explains, "One aspect to make it more interactive and not so standard, was that we gave ribbons to each guest in their hotel room before the wedding. What I wanted to do was incorporate all the guests into the wedding, and have them send Rob and Amber on their way with all the best wishes.

"We put a ribbon in each guest's hotel room before the wedding and asked them to take a few moments to think of their wish for Rob and Amber and write it on the ribbon. Then everyone brought the ribbon to the ceremony and we placed them all under an arch, so when Rob and Amber came down the aisle they walked through the collective wishes of their friends and family. It was fabulous.

"We then rolled the ribbons up and presented them to Rob and Amber so any time they ever get to a bumpy spot they can take them out and read them and remember all the wishes of their friends and families."

Individualize the ceremony - Cowie explains, "They also did a hand washing ceremony during the wedding, which also helped to individualize their ceremony. We used a shell bowl and it wasn't even so much about washing their hands, as it was about purifying their hands and souls before taking place in this special ceremony. And the words they spoke during this made it so sincere and magical and special."

Remember: Little details count - Cowie notes, "Another little element I added was placing cold towels on top of everyone's shoes. This was a beach wedding and all the guests were required to remove their shoes before sitting. And what's worse than having to put back on sandy shoes and having sandy feet afterwards? So the towels were to wipe off the feet and get the sand out of your toes before putting the shoes back on.

Table setting: - Cowie explains, "The tables were set with tablecloths that had beading around the edges, and we had special chair covers, as well. The tabletop elements were glass hurricanes of different heights, with candles for the lighting. We also placed shells and flowers around the center of the tables to give that beachy, airy feeling. And we decided on a menu that was served family style, which Amber loved because it made people interact with one another."

Be sure to tune in Tuesday night for "Rob And Amber Get Married," at 9 p.m./ET on CBS.

Title: Rob And Amber's Prime-Time Wedding
Post by: puddin on May 24, 2005, 12:46:20 PM
Rob And Amber's Prime-Time Wedding
CBS) For a little pre-wedding planning, correspondent Tracy Smith met up with Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich in the Bahamas. And in typical Rob Mariano style, he promised Smith that this is going to make the Trump wedding look understated! The following is Smith's behind-the-scenes look.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm a kid from Boston," Rob says, "She's a kid from Pennsylvania. We got together on a show; they're throwing a boatload of money at us and saying, 'Make the wedding of your most wildest dreams.'"

So to do that, they chose the Bahamas and a place called Atlantis Paradise Island.

Atlantis is a sprawling 45-acre resort. Picture Disneyland with sand, where the fake beach is often more popular than the real beach. It's the perfect wedding spot for a couple who met and feel in love on reality TV.

When Rob popped the question on the live finale of "Survivor: All-Stars," they became the couple America loved to love.

Then came "The Amazing Race," where some found them not quite so lovable after all.

Still, when I joined them in Atlantis Paradise Island, two weeks before the wedding, their love for each other was obvious.

Asked if she has had any cold feet, Amber says, "I'll admit the fact that we've had our times when we've had it out, and stressed on each other, but that's why we're there for each other."
To ease some pre-wedding stress, they enlisted Colin Cowie, party planner to the stars. On the day of the interview, he was helping them pick food and table settings.

What is the toughest part about this decision?

"Getting everybody to agree about the same thing," Cowie says laughing, "We're all getting married together. There's three of us with a point of view."

And some more persuasive than others, check out Rob give "The Godfather" treatment to the poor chef.

"The one thing that I'm in charge of in this wedding is the food. So it needs to be good," Rob tells him. "Me and you, we're gonna be me and you. But you have to do me right."

There were endless servings of appetizers, and perhaps a few too many cocktails. For the entree, they chose a seafood platter served family style - in keeping with Rob's Italian roots.

And for dessert, Rob tells me it was his idea to have tiramisu.

"Tiramisu in the form of a wedding cake," he says, "Tiramisu is my favorite."

The theme of the wedding is "beach chic," though Rob's friends had a different interpretation.

Rob explains, "They said who's the beach chick coming?"

Once they decided on the food, we had to talk fashion.

"I have an idea what he's wearing," Amber says, "I have not seen it, and I will not see it until that day, just like he has no idea what I'm wearing. He has no idea what it looks like."

But after I covered Rob's ears, Amber whispered in my ear, "It has the vintage and beachy feel to it."

There'll be about 300 guests, eight bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen.

Amber will walk along the beach barefoot of course because everybody in the wedding has to be barefoot, and with the water behind them, Rob and Amber will take their vows.

And of course, the TV cameras will be in front. But Rob and Amber wouldn't have it any other way.

Amber says, "If we do do this televised, we get to share it with the world. And the fact that America got to fall in love with us while we fell in love, on TV, we almost feel like they should get to see us uniting and becoming husband and wife."

Rob adds, "Not to mention the fact that, like, she's gonna get a more unbelievable wedding than she coulda ever dreamed of."

A few more hints on what to expect Tuesday night: a choir, fireworks and they're going to give each other a special gift.

Be sure to tune in to "Rob And Amber Get Married" at 9 p.m. on CBS. The game-playing may be over but Rob and Amber still feel like winners.

This Forum is for The Amazing Race, this thread should belong a Amber/Rob FORUM. We are not talking about Amber and Rob on Amazing Race anymore, they have gone on to do other stuff that is not apart of Amazing Race. Their wedding, whatever they have coming up has nothing to do with Amazing Race. I hate to see this Forum turn into Rob/Amber talk all the time. It is a shame these famewhores were on the show in the first place because all people talked about was them before the race and people still talk about them after the race. What about the other contestants like Debbie/Brianca, Ray/Deana, Lynn/Alex, Brian/Greg, Uchenna/Joyce from The Amazing Race, don't you people care about them. They were not known before the show and after the show they are pushed into the shadows because all you people care about are Rob/Amber. Have you even heard the latest news about some of the contestants, apparently Deana is pregnant and Brian got hit by a car yesterday and is in the hospita in serious condition not to mention Greg fractured his Tibia two weeks agol, and Lynn/Alex are getting married in Canada It is a shame because this show has became Rob/Amber show, and when TAR 8 comes around you will all be wondering where Rob/Amber are instead of caring about the new contestants.

It was a great wedding, i don't have time now to recap the whole thing but it was basically rob and ambers whole process. They surveyed the beach from a helicopter to see what it looked like {Paradise Island } i believe thats what it was called. And then they met with collin cowie. or whatever his name is spelt like, the famous guy who does weddings for a lot of celebrities. They talked over what the bridesmates and stuff like that what they were going to wear and then what they were going to eat and rob listed off all of his food, it went on forever lol. They later were told that they had to get something special for each other and throughout the whole show they kinda got that set up . Rob got Amber a place for them to live and furnished it all. She got him this big picture thingy not sure what its called and got all the red sox to sign it. They had their bachelor and bachelorette parties were amber went swimming with the dolphins and rob went to catch fish ... lol Her mothers friend (i dont remember her name) made amber her dress . oh ray and deana were at the wedding too! lol Rob and Amber also went dancing, but rob wasnt very fond of that lol not very good at that either! It got stressful for them, then later they had to write their vows . They had their wedding and then after that they went dancing a little and then when they cut the cake fireworks lit the sky! lol

and thats all i could remember, hope it was helpful }^/

Good job summing up the wedding HAFan /*^ .
From memory ..I loved the wedding and saw Amber & Rob as two regular people , not stars . The vows that they wrote made me feel silly because I had tears in my eyes , very romantic and touching , I beleive that they are truly in love . Amber looked beautiful and her dress was perfect I'm glad she did not spend big money for a designer dress it was designed by her moms best friend , lol Rob said that Amber is tight , shes one of those lucky people that looks great with or without makeup and was not upset at how windy it was during the ceremony even though it was blowing her hair all over the place .. I was jealous when she swam with the dolphins too ..she is natural beauty ..
Rob is a bad dancer and does not hide that fact , it was cute that he gave in and took some lessons , also Rob has put on a few pounds but to me it doesnt matter , more to cuddle . Rob & Amber have a great set of friends and wonderfull parents , Rob is a funny guy and he had me cracking up when he said how he got his friends to help with the house ,"Just like Tom Sawyer" , A great set of friends ..oh , Ray & Deana were at the wedding too .
I loved that Rob bought Amber the canopy bed ( inspired by TAR ) even though he didnt like it and there was apart when his friends cut the beads off of the lamps because they thought they were to girly , lol
Oh and the look on Robs face when Amber presented Rob with the RedSox picture was priceless , he cried .
I recorded the wedding and plan on rewatching it again over the weekend , I could recap more details when I see it again .
All and all I loved the Wedding and hope to see more of Romber on TV in the future :)

I enjoyed the wedding and the planning leading up to it. I loved how Rob furnished the house with the help of that nice lady in California. They are so lucky to have that house built for them. Puddin, you are right about the love they have for each other --- it is genuine. I laughed when Amber's veil got caught in the archway as she was coming down the sandy aisle. I could not beleive how many attendants they had but am glad they did not bore us with them all walking in. I would have loved to see who some of their more famous "reality guests" were. I liked what they did for their respective bachelor/bachelorette parties. Fishing for the guys-- what kind of fish did Rob catch anyways? I would love to swim with the dolphins--that was definitely a great idea. It was a great 2 hours of tv and I taped it and ended up watching a second time. {|

Television Without Pity also did a pretty funny recap. Miss Alli liked Romber for the most part, so it was less snarky than one would expect. Here's a link:

yeah, the TWoP recaps are long but usually not as long as the show! No commercials, and you get a pretty good idea of what happened.
