As many players on Survivor learn the hard way, China Airlines and EVA Air are not in the same alliance.

So it looks like they're not using a charter plane this season?? :cheer: :conf:

So it looks like they're not using a charter plane this season?? :cheer: :conf:
In my opinion, after the charter plane fiasco during TAR 35, it will be a long, long, long time before TAR goes back to using charter planes. In case you don't know, they had a short range charter plane to get them to the first few legs in South America then they were booked for a longer range plane to get them overseas. Unfortunately, the second charter plane never materialized and TAR 35 was stuck in South America and the Caribbean for the rest of the legs until the Finale. They had to arrange locations and improvise legs on the fly and apparently it wasn't up to normal TAR standards.
-
Im trying to stay unspoiled this season. key word trying, but the one thing that I wanted to know was if they were going back to using non...private planes. I am so excited low key. I hope they go back to more variety in terms of on-the-ground transport as well (i.e. taxis, trains, buses)

I also had not but i wasnt here much during 35 filming. I saw that it was just south america which i found rather weird but i didnt know that there was a backstory to it. it does make a lot more sense now.

How sure are we that they flew into SGN for this leg today? We're back to "normal" but even without the impact of COVID I'm not sure they willing to subject teams to either a 3 hour taxi ride or a public bus.
Teams could've flown directly into Can Tho yesterday on either of these:
(6/18)
VN 610 BKK HAN 1155 1400
VN 1207 HAN VCA 1625 1840, where they likely get stopped by hours of operation
VN 618 BKK HAN 1905 2055
VN 1201 HAN VCA 0705 0855 (+1)
If they flew BKK to SGN there's several flights throughout the day and several busses through all hours to get to Can Tho (to say nothing of charter busses or vans)
-
SPEC-
Given the timing of sightings in Jaipur (particularly the one of teams queued up in the morning, my best guess on flights is:
FD655 SGN DMK 1553 1730 (6/21)
FD130 DMK JAI 1954 2219 (6/21)
I'm assuming teams were bunched by hours of operation (TAR 31 in Laos) or otherwise held up overnight (like TAR 30 in Tangier or TAR 32 in Manaus) before actively racing the morning of 6/22.
If a team missed this flight, the next best flight combination is
VN979 SGN BOM 1755 2148 (6/21)
AI651 BOM JAI 0530 0715 (6/22).
The only issue is AI651 was cancelled on 6/22. :'( If I recall the rules of flights now, teams can rebook tickets if their flight got canceled, meaning they could still get into Jaipur by quickly booking:
6E 5098 BOM JAI 0410 0559 (6/22),
I5 761 BOM JAI 0649 0831 (6/22), or
6E 5281 BOM JAI 0805 0952 (6/22)

Flights from LAX
June 14, 2023: China Airlines – Flight 7, 12:00 midnight
EVA Air – Flight 11 12:15 am
-
With regards to Cologne, there are many options and not much info right now. There are direct flights to Frankfurt out of Delhi and Mumbai and teams could drive or take a train to Cologne. There are also Lufthansa flights to Cologne via Munich out of the same cities.
Edit: With the Rüdesheim am Rhein sighting, it looks like they flew into Frankfurt.

Thanks Leafs. Was there options to continue on China Airlines from TPE to BKK or would they have had to default to using the EVA flight we've already noted?
Also looks like both flights arrived in TPE at the same time?? How odd.

June 18: VJC 806 BKK-SGN 20:47-22:15 (https://flightaware.com/live/flight/VJC806/history/20230618/1305Z/VTBS/VVTS) or 2nd BBK-SGN
Just some bonus info about one of the flights that left from Bangkok to Vietnam since we have so little info this season:
Five teams left Bangkok to Vietnam on June 18 on flight VJ806. That flight left Bangkok at 7:55 PM and landed in Ho Chi Minh City at 9:25 PM. Teams were spotted racing on June 19 early in the morning so it sounds like there was an Hour Of Operation/Sign Up board after they landed.
The teams on that flight were:
- Andrea & Malaina
- Liam & Yeremi
- Steve & Anna
- Robbin & Chelsea
- Todd & Ashlie
Other teams left on a different unknown flight (no clue if it was earlier or later)

If the final destination is Dublin, there’s a flight that just left Stockholm Arlanda Airport in a flight SK535.

Looking at the flight from Vietnam to India it seems teams flew on an Malysia Airways plane for at least one leg.
-
In previous races, teams leaving Vietnam had to go to a travel agent to get flight reservations and tickets to their next destination (even if they were on the same flight, as what happened this ep). Factoring in that and the 4 hour cab ride from Can Tho to SGN, my best guess is
MH759 SGN KUL 1640 1940
MH198 KUL HYD 2130 2310
6E658 HYD JAI 0520 0720 (+1)
-
Possibly?:duno: Working backwards, they can connect via BOM on
MH-194 KUL BOM 1935 2215
I5-761 BOM JAI 0655 0840 (+1)
(one of several options; I think Air Asia India is either a member of Oneworld with Malaysian Airlines or else codeshares with them in some way so that would be my pick)
Getting to KUL, we know teams started the leg between 0700 and 0736 assuming no funny business. If they went to a travel agent to get tickets as per usual for legs departing Vietnam, I doubt a travel agency would put them on flights of separate alliances (which would exclude Vietnam Airlines flights). The amount of time it would take to get reservations, taxi four hours to SGN and clear immigration/security means teams could fly on either
AK-529 SGN KUL 1240 1540 (less likely), or
AK-527 SGN KUL 1325 1625
The primary issue regarding the second flight is I'm going off of schedule data vs actual flights perhaps Santa will put a Gold membership in my stocking for Christmas and can't confirm if AK-527 existed during the time of filming and actually flew that day. A secondary issue is I think an extra 45 minutes in this context is trivial, especially if production wanted all teams on the same flight. If a team missed the two flights above, the connections via KUL and HYD are the best bet still.
-
(one of several options; I think Air Asia India is either a member of Oneworld with Malaysian Airlines or else codeshares with them in some way so that would be my pick)
AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines are rivals.
-
Alternatively, teams can fly via IndiGo and arrive early enough to be held at the Amber Fort-
6E-5052 0505 0640
For efficiency's sake I haven't accounted for things like triple connections (say, SGN-KUL-BOM-DEL-JAI or SGN-KUL-SIN-BOM-JAI) or production pre-booking the same flight for all teams.
-
I think we've figured out some of the flights!
From Ho Chi Minh City to Jaipur, looks like Zack's got it right. We see teams board a Malaysian Airlines flight, and this is the only one leaving Ho Chi Minh City on Wed 21 Jun:
- MH 759 from Ho Chi Minh City to Kuala Lumpur, 1640-1940
Excluding Air Asia and Batik Air flights (as mentioned earlier in the thread, it would be really weird to sell these in combination with Malaysia Airlines), the only flights leaving that evening for India are:
- MH 180 from Kuala Lumpur to Chennai, 2125-2245
- MH 198 from Kuala Lumpur to Hyderabad, 2130-2310
- MH 192 from Kuala Lumpur to Bangalore, 2200-2340
The earliest connecting flights from these into Jaipur the next day on Thu 22 Jun are:
- 6E 6412 from Chennai to Jaipur, 2240-0110 (after waiting one full day in Chennai)
- 6E 658 from Hyderabad to Jaipur, 0520-0720
- I5 941 from Bangalore to Jaipur, 0755-1040
In the episode, we see Malaina's watch as she reaches the top of Amber Fort; it's 9:05am.
So by process of elimination, teams took this itinerary:
- MH 759 from Ho Chi Minh City to Kuala Lumpur 21 Jun 1640-1940
- MH 198 from Kuala Lumpur to Hyderabad, 21 Jun 2130-2310
- 6E 658 from Hyderabad to Jaipur, 22 Jun 0520-0720
From Jaipur to Frankfurt, we see Lena/Morgan's car clock as they leave Frankfurt Airport: 10:01am (corroborated later by a clearer 10:48am in Rob/Corey's car). There are three flights from India into Frankfurt that morning:
- LH 761 from Delhi to Frankfurt 0250-0750
- LH 757 from Mumbai to Frankfurt 0250-0820
- LH 755 from Bangalore to Frankfurt 0305-0900
We see teams board an Air India / Air India Express flight in daylight, presumably to Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore. The options here are:
- I5 744 from Jaipur to Delhi, 0620-0720 (too early for Robbin/Chelsea, who are released at 9:18am)
- I5 762 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 0910-1045 (too early)
- I5 942 from Jaipur to Bangalore, 1110-1345
- AI 612 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 1335-1530
- I5 670 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 1720-1850
- I5 769 from Jaipur to Delhi, 2320-0010 (night flight)
- I5 773 from Jaipur to Delhi, 2350-0110 (night flight)
- I5 337 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 2355-0215 (night flight)
Delving deeper to our three remaining flights, we have:
- I5 942 from Jaipur to Bangalore, 1110-1345 (180-seater A320: all economy)
- AI 612 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 1335-1530 (162-seater A320neo: 12 business, 150 economy)
- I5 670 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 1720-1850 (180-seater A320: all economy)
And... we see a business class seat as Robbin/Chelsea board; economy seats are red and gold. So our itinerary is:
- AI 612 from Jaipur to Mumbai, 26 Jun 1335-1530
- LH 757 from Mumbai to Frankfurt, 27 Jun 0250-0820
Air India and Lufthansa are both Star Alliance members, so that checks out as well.
-
THANKS NEOBIE!

For completeness' sake, teams took OS 315 from Vienna to Stockholm (Sun 2 Jul, scheduled 1705-1915). This jives with the on-screen caption that teams arrived at 6:45pm, and this view of the taxi screen which mentions a "mottagen tid" (received time) of 7:22pm.
-
I missed that shot in the episode. The really interesting text is under "Kommentarer" (Comments) on the left. Translated to English this reads: "Go to the spontaneous trip line. Only pick up customers arriving with a camera team! Special order call ### to get a fixed price. Call the customer before you leave the terminal."
That is, somebody called the taxi company and ordered a bunch of taxis which should kind of pretend to not be pre-ordered. This probably happened when the teams were ready to leave the airport. And they got a fixed price which explains how Anna Leigh could pay before they arrived (that is harder to do if they run with the meter).
-
Great catch, maf!
One more surprise from the finale - we thought teams would be on the non-stop Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Seattle, but instead we see teams board a United Airlines flight!
United has four flights leaving Dublin, with the same schedule on Thu 6 Jul and Fri 7 Jul:
- UA 22 from Dublin to Newark, 0920-1130, using a B777 (276 seats)
- UA 981 from Dublin to Chicago, 1135-1400, using a B757-200 (169 seats)
- UA 229 from Dublin to Washington DC, 1215-1510, using a B767-400 (240 seats)
- UA 316 from Dublin to Newark, 1335-1610, using a B757-200 (169 seats)
These match up with the seat maps here (https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/company/aircraft/boeing-777-200.html#version-1), here (https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/company/aircraft/boeing-757-200.html#version-1), here (https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/company/aircraft/boeing-767-400er.html#version-1), and here (https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/company/aircraft/boeing-757-200.html#version-1).
The plane that teams took had a 3-4-3 configuration.
UA 981 and UA 316 are single-aisle, so those are out.
UA 229 uses a 2-3-2 configuration in Economy Class, so that's out too, leaving us UA 22 from Dublin to Newark, 0920-1130.
There are two possible flights from Newark to Seattle:
- UA 674 from Newark to Seattle, scheduled 1424-1725
- UA 1308 from Newark to Seattle, scheduled 1529-1837
As Rob/Corey start driving off from the airport we see the car clock, 7:06pm. Which would be inconclusive with just the above information, but there was a bit of a delay on the flights that day:
- UA 674 from Newark to Seattle, scheduled 1424-1725, actual 1543-1808
- UA 1308 from Newark to Seattle, scheduled 1529-1837, actual 1934-2154
Giving us the teams' itinerary for their final leg:
- UA 22 from Dublin to Newark, 0920-1130
- UA 674 from Newark to Seattle, scheduled 1424-1725, actual 1543-1808

Perhaps production took the non-stop flight

Wonder how long they’ve been doing this. This season, even though it was a “return to basics”, felt rather controlled but only slightly less so than the COVID seasons. Many legs had “marked” taxis (this is why we barely saw drama with teams needing to switch taxis — they simply couldn’t). The flight drama leaving Thailand felt manufactured as if production made sure teams only had 3 specific options to choose from, and as if the travel agency workers were given a spiel similar to the taxi cab message that maf pointed out.
None of this is factual, obviously, just saying my honest thoughts on how it came across to me as a longtime viewer and fan.
-
I’ve noticed that as well. I really hope the taxi stuff is related to continual COVID concerns and not production trying to micromanage the race (because production doing whatever it can to take variables out of teams control is never fun and leads to less great moments imo)
-
Perhaps production took the non-stop flight
I'm not actually sure. I think in previous years Phil flies with production and u/RainingNiners on reddit mentioned (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheAmazingRace/comments/18iop36/comment/kdfg959/?context=3) Phil was on their Delta flight from LHR to SEA on 7/6, which would be DL 21 London-Seattle 1525 1800. It's not a lot of advance time for him to film but the scramble locations were all close enough that he didn't need to travel much.

Some info on timing in Seattle - Phil and the advance team flew in July 6 around 5pm. The standup on top of the Space Needle was on July 7 around 1 pm, while the teams arrived around 7:30pm.

I'm really curious why production wasn't aware of delays and cancellations at Newark and why wasn't teams put on the later flight on the 5th and hold them in Seattle or something.
