Ok. I think we are good.
I'll be doing updates for the first time on TAR so bare with me and my lack of experience.
We are on the last minutes of ET so get ready for Episode 5 :)
-
Zimbabwe better be ready for me, on the other hand, vice versa. I have made freshly squeezed orange juice to suffice for the country's people flavorful, tropical taste. Can't wait! :waves:
-
Can't wait!
-
Hope for a great leg! :)
-
I can try to clarify tasks if necessary. Won't be drinking alcohol while watching this episode.

I can try to clarify tasks if necessary. Won't be drinking alcohol while watching this episode.
That would be awesome because I'll probably miss a few details.

And Slovakia <3333 Future possible destination?
-
Pit Stop: Teams must travel to Masuwe Private Game Reserve and each teammate must pick up a fruit basket and balance it on their head. If any fruit fall, teams must place the fruit back on their head and continue walking until they reach the PS.
Meanwhile, Denise & James Earl are team number ONE!!! :luvya:
And they are the first team to travel to Slovakia - as their prize.
Why can't we get these nice countries visited? Perhaps next season?
Justin & Diana take 2nd place (AKA first losers by Justin).
-
Slovakia for 28 will be glam

Cindy&Rick arrived in 7th place.
Jazmine&Danielle eliminated in 8th place.
They are bummed down because they are atletes and competitive.
They were happy to race with each other.
End of the episode.
-
finally an episode that I truly enjoy
-
Logan is the Woman.
Oops! My bad!
Sorry everyone!
-
Tiffany & Krista randomly getting 5th place, despite arriving last at the virtual pit-stop :funny:
But now their u-turn power is gone :(
Jazmine & Danielle did lose because of themselves
(1) They should have u-turned Tiffany & Krista to ensure they are not last in the 1st pit-stop
(2) They went to the Pit-stop instead of the lion task
(3) They did not read the clue correctly and did not pick up the clue for the lion task
(4) They could not balance fruit :stare
-
Next week on The Amazing Race.
Tanner's worst nightmare comes true when he has to bungee jump
Krista&Tiffany rapping
Logan: "we had a good lead" she is crying.
And that's it.
Thank for reading everybody.
Sorry for making any mistakes and changing some of the names.
-
I am surprised that Bungee is actually the roadblock of Leg 6 :ascared
I cannot really think of a reason for Tanner electing to do a Height challenge :o
So Bungee > RB
Rap or Aircraft > Detour ?
-
Amazing leg (finally) <3333333333
Aside from short intro....
( flashback or switchback ?) RB was amazing...
Detour was linear but really cool...
So many mistakes and breakdown from teams
Walk with lion <333
Enough teams editing
Balance the fruit to pit stop
LOL why towards to leg 5 to make a amazing leg??
-
It was a fun leg.... but there's no denying that it was linear =/
-
It was a fun leg.... but there's no denying that it was linear =/
Is frustrating. They had to wait for someone to finish multiple times during the leg.
They had to wait in line at the free fall, then later at the crocs and then only two teams could do the lion walk at the same time.
-
Honestly, I had low expectations for the episodes mainly because I knew the tasks were gonna be so linear/straightforward. But it turned out to be a fun and suspenseful episode :o
I knew Jazmine & Danielle were gonna be eliminated thanks to spoilers, but the whole episode I was wondering how the heck that would happen.
The fruit task is easily the best of the season so far... what a great way to add some suspense! I feel like TAR should do more of those. Stick a task literally right before the Pit Stop. This way they won't have to waste time making clues or waste money on an extra location.
I think the fact that Justin & Diana and Tanner & Josh ended up parting ways saved the episode from airtime dedicated to the rivalry. So good job Tanner & Josh for falling behind
I got excited when Justin said "We're in trouble." Sorry guys. It was just nice to see you guys had some flaws.
 x100 at Denise & James Earl winning the leg.
-
Now that both Express Passes are rid and have cleared most evil, the race can continue in full "swing", so to say. In a leg full of danger with carnivorous animals, a snappy Logan, and an elimination to top it all off, the episode provided a close insight of a typical and rather harmonious African safari in the TAR universe..... :groan: Who am I kidding?! The editing made this episode look bad. And the amount of navigation and task drama in this leg deserved better. One thing that I am not kidding, OJ is making me type smarter, or am I?
LEG 5 (Zimbabwe) EPISODE REVIEW
Drink: Freshly squeezed non-alcoholic orange juice
We get no time to even blink and teams are shown starting off where they stood as of last episode. Finally, the EP's are extinct for now. And we immediately see other teams piling in to the orphanage to get their next clue by Phil. Tiffany & Krista even frantically tried to U-Turn the leg winners. What a scramble!
ROADBLOCK: (Who wants to take it back to Batoka "George"?)
I enjoyed watching this season 1 Switchback, and seeing the gorge in high-definition this time satisfyingly spot out all the details and river color in brighter hues. But - wouldn't this count as a trip back into Zambia again or have we thought this all wrong since season 1? ??? ??? ???
ROADBLOCK SCORE: 9/10 (in terms of first Detour task history), in this new era case 8.7/10.
DETOUR: (Encaged & Feed or Paddle & Retrieve)
Though this task did provide lots of drama from the laughable rivaling teams, Tiffany & Krista and Logan & Chris the tasks were as linear as well... a line. I didn't love the tasks, but I have to respect them. By the end of tonight, my final say is that this was a relatively boring Detour choice, except for the crocodiles.
DETOUR SCORE: 7.8/10
And then we have the Pit Stop, but not before we see avalanches of fruit falling everywhere along the trail. Crazy as it is, I loved the turtle-paced foot race to the Pit Stop. It's a refreshing spin, but here is the main thing these newer seasons need to keep the race alive and spectacular: MORE SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC! I can't stress this enough.
OVERALL: 7.9/10
My overall ranking would have been so much higher, even close to a 10 if the editing had been mastered to draw suspense in this race cast scenario between two teams rivaling each other to the three-way stroll to the Pit Stop. The editing currently is just flat and doesn't add anything interesting.
More orange juice for me.
Just a heads up for next week regarding updating:
I will be attending a wedding ceremony & reception for a friend scheduled on Friday. Unfortunately, this will mean I will have to miss the Paris, France leg on live TV. :( The review for that episode will most likely not be posted on the live updating thread for episode 6 until Saturday. Luckily, I will be having champagne to keep up with the TAR27 drinks theme I'm "secretly" doing here. :hoot:
-
I Watch this leg and the previous of the next. I lived near Paris and the last picture of the preview is about transportation problem. When Alen will post the pics of the preview, i will wrote about that. I just write for the moment that a route info is not in Paris (the plane task) and transportation could have a good part for the race.
-
Tiffany & Krista randomly getting 5th place, despite arriving last at the virtual pit-stop :funny:
But now their u-turn power is gone :(
Jazmine & Danielle did lose because of themselves
(1) They should have u-turned Tiffany & Krista to ensure they are not last in the 1st pit-stop
(2) They went to the Pit-stop instead of the lion task
(3) They did not read the clue correctly and did not pick up the clue for the lion task
(4) They could not balance fruit :stare
As far as U-Turning Tiffany & Krista, hindsight is always 20/20. And they weren't the only ones having problems balancing fruit. The key errors were going to the Pit Stop instead of the lion task and failing to read their clue correctly and thus not picking up the clue for the lion task. Read the clue!
-
I thought ChacAttack was going home, they keep making small mistakes and falling behind. However Jaz and Dani completely deserved their elimination for failing to read their clues and for making the exact same mistake they witnessed other teams making on the same leg. Denise & James caught a lucky break and finally made a new entry in the winners' circle, however I don't feel like they'll win any more legs. Green Team and Texas are definitely on league way over the rest of the teams and based on their performances so far, the only team that could compete with them might be Kelsey & Joey. Hopefully one of the slower teams picks up the pace, otherwise it will be a two-team race until the end.
-
Denise and Earl James getting the EP. Omg, secretly happy HAHA.
omg no more team intros again -_-
DENISE AND JAMES EARL FIRST <3333333333 OMG
Jazmine and Danielle, like OMG? OMG? OMG?
-_- This team just got a whole lot of bad luck (not reading clue, then thinking that they didn't need to do anything at the lion encounter) and everything. #READYOURCLUE
Bye bye Jazmine and Danielle.
This is clearly the best leg so far. I have no complaints. <3
-
I have little problem with it being linear because you sort of only have yourselves to blame if you fall behind... or the waiting time at each task.... but I think the tasks made up for it. For these tasks, I think I appreciated the waiting time lol
At least the linear legs are not as bad as those first 4-5 legs on TAR 24. *rolleyes*
-
I loved this leg and linearity of it and tasks :trampb:
-
This is arguably the best leg of the season so far! Loving everything despite its predictability and straightforward task! Anyway do you guys think that Jazmine and Danielle were not "that" close with Cindy and Rick on the race to the pit stop?
-
This has been the best leg of the season so far, but it doesn't mean it's amazing. Just goes to show how much this season isn't that good right now.
-
Horrible leg but Denise & James Earl winning <3 and TIFFANY & KRISTA WITH THE BEST U-TURN EVER <3333333333333333333 :funny:
-
and somehow I just hate Chris's attitude. He is just so pessimistic. The distance between the 5th place and last place was so thin, but he wanted to switch over to another detour because they must wait for only a few minutes? It was a suicide! Luckily they sticked with it and survive...
-
I love the Kevin & Drew "Swing, you fat bastard, swing!!!" flashback.
I wish the Victoria fall and the village last leg can insert more TAR1 flashback.
-
Just watched the episode. Definitely my fav episode so far this season :luvya:
Denise & James Earl winning :hearts:
people complained on Facebook page because of "Walk with lions" :stare :stare :stare, i don't know what you guys think
-
Definitely loved the episode. :cheer: The editing gave us every bit of all the teams. Finally, an episode without stressing much on the rivalry of Tanner & Josh and Justin & Diana. The tasks were awesome but linear. I just did not like the waiting time though for the Freefall Roadblock, the Croc cage diving Detour and the Lion Encounter. For the Roadblock. I'll give it a 10/10. It was definitely a flashback of "Swing you fat bastard! Swing!" moment from Season 1. For the Detour, I'll give it a 7.5/10, although it gave us some tension and drama. It felt kinda boring. Loved the Lion Encounter task. I found the fruit-balancing task to Pit Stop awesome, definitely the slowest footrace to Pit Stop. Overall, this was a great leg, :hoot: :yess: the only let down here for me, are the 2 Detour choices. It could have been better if the Detour tasks were White-water rafting along the Zambezi River or the Switchback of Detour in Season 1 Leg 2 where they had to photograph certain wild animals.
Finally Denise & James Earl won :cheer: :cheer:. Hopefully Tiffany & Krista will join them in the winners circle. :hoot: Feel bad for Jazmine & Danielle, they could have gone further. It was their fault that contributed to their elimination, they did not read their clues, Twice! It could have been a foot "fruit" race battle between Logan & Chris and Cindy & Rick if Jazmine & Danielle did not commit errors. Love the enthusiasm of Tiffany & Krista and thanking the Zimbabwean women at the Pit Stop. It is clear that they are having a great time on the Race despite the stresses and coming in last in Leg 4.
-
Did anyone else find it funny when Logan & Chris were following Cindy & Rick... they really showed their paparazzi side
-
Did anyone else find it funny when Logan & Chris were following Cindy & Rick... they really showed their paparazzi side
Yeah, Logan & Chris' taxi driver told them that they were at the place already but still Logan said "No!, follow them!" :funny: :funny:
-
Leg 5 with the Big 5 :hearts:
Definitely more of a leg focused on tourist attractions than on challenges. Admittedly, I still don't understand the rationale behind the new editing (if there is any :x), but this was definitely an improvement from the Texas-GreenTeam-centric editing. We get to see more of the other teams, even though a lot of it was actually negativity
But speaking of Tanner & Josh vs Justin & Diana, this is the second time Justin & Diana beat Tanner & Josh in a race with water transportation :o
The fruit balancing footrace to the Pit Stop was fun to watch. Overall, this is a leg I'd sign up to do in a heartbeat! Gorge swing over gorgeous Zambezi, crocs and lions :hearts:
-
Before I read anybody's comments, and the commentary for this episode, I just wanna say how disappointed I am of myself for not waking up on time for the live show. :groan:
Oh wait, not just that, I'll give my opinions as well. :grins:
I like this episode! :hrt:
1.) The edit on Tanner & Josh and Justin & Diana has finally improved, meaning less focus on them. I'm so glad of it! :<3
2.) The W-turn was a disappointment, big disappointment. :groan: :groan: :groan: I'm glad how the end turned out though due to the W-turn not being used.
2.) Nature and wildlife: :luvya: :hrt: :hearts: We got to see it from the roadblock, to the detour, to the ARI, and even at the pit stop. This is why African visits are awesome! :luvya: :hrt: :hearts:
3.) The roadblock was a switchback I wasn't expecting, so I'm glad I finally got to see a switchback again. :yess: My "good" opinion: The view was amazing! :conf: My "bad" opinion: It made leg design quite dull. :whoop: Anyway, I like the roadblock overall. :)
4.) The detour with the crocs was cool. :colors The other detour allowed me to see nature. The thing is... the detour seems really imbalanced that way. :gaah: Good news is it didn't make a big impact in the teams' placements. The crocs detour was linear though, like the roadblock. :res: Anyway, I like the detour overall because I got to see wildlife and nature. :yess:
5.) The walking with the lions allowed me to see nature and wildlife at the same time. :colors Really amazing! :hoot:
6.) I like seeing Denise & JE's reaction on the EP. It was coincidental how Tanner & Josh said they would probably give it to the team next to them. Also, I'm glad somebody else aside from the strongest 2 teams won the leg. :yess: It adds more flavor to the season. :colors
7.) The preview seems to show another heights roadblock. That would not have been a problem if the last 2 roadblocks weren't on heights as well. :res:
8.) I'm glad the focus of this leg was on the last 4 teams. They don't get a lot of spotlight because of the rivalry edit, so I'm glad I got to see the focus on them this leg.
9.) ChacAttack and the Paparazzi making that mistake on the roadblock was :funny: and :groan: at the same time. I'm glad none of them got eliminated due to that though.
10.) Jazmine & Danielle, however, did terribly in Legs 4 and 5. They started by unnecessarily crossing the border during the roadblock in Leg 4, which caused their drop to the bottom 4. Then they stumbled to the pit stop this leg, but they were still given a chance, but the mistake on the Lion Encounter ARI gave ChacAttack and the Paparazzi the good cushion those 2 teams needed. They made so many mistakes in the African legs, and they also had a lot of bad luck. Poor Track Stars. :torche
11.) The cheerleaders on the W-turn: :groan: But, the way they raced Leg 5 was :hearts: . They didn't make a mistake this leg compared to the last 3 teams I mentioned above. That's what propelled them from last to 5th. :conf: Also, they don't seem to have an alliance, and they're luckily standing on their own, so they are obviously an underdog team to root for! :hearts:
12.) The fruit basket addition while going to the pit stop "to make things interesting" worked really well! :yess: It shuffled the 1st 2 teams, and it gave suspense on the last 3 teams. Oh yeah, the edit on the last 3 teams for suspense was great! :yess: It reminds me of the fight for last during Leg 2.
I think that's all I have to say for now. :)

Things might have changed if Jazmine & Danielle U-turned the Cheerleaders, but if I understood their confessional correctly, they said they would've done that if they knew they'd still keep on racing, because if they weren't gonna continue racing, why U-turn when you're right at the end of the leg? I think somebody mentioned something like the U-turn being useless because they could just run to the end. After this episode, I just found the good and bad effect of it. The good: They didn't know they'd continue racing, so they didn't do it, but they would've if they knew. The bad: The W-turn was wasted.
As for the Cheerleaders getting last to 5th, it just shows how reading the clue and following instructions carefully can save them from elimination. :luvya:

Is this the biggest W-Turn failure in TAR history?
-
Is this the biggest W-Turn failure in TAR history?
If you mean the biggest failure in terms of the plan/strategy? Maybe.
But W-Turns in general have not been delivering.
The only really good/memorable ones that come to mind are the very first one in TAR 17, which was the ideal way that W-Turns should be played. 2 teams U-Turn 2 other teams. Rewatching it, the battle between Brook & Claire and Chad & Stephanie was intense and the one in TAR 18 where Kent & Vyxsin U-Turned Jaime & Cara right next to them :funny: TAR 22 Leg 10's was also nicely done and made for an exciting race to the finish at night.
Since then, W-Turns have ended up not used or used for stupid reasons and didn't add any suspense. That's five seasons without a good W-Turn... unless there's another one coming up, hopefully.

Another good example of W-Turn is the one in Amsterdam from 21, that burning another slot plan was pretty good tactic. But I agree with you, 17 had the best use of W-Turn. (And best result <3)
W-Turn is not really delivering lately, but because of the production too not just by the team. Like the one in Namibia from last season. We all know the Olympic would go anyway with the U-Turn or not since there was no HoH. Had the production brunched teams up, it would be really really interesting how the U-Turn will play out and what the aftereffect will be. Another example is from Japan in 26, put W-Turn in first leg? Why? Teams haven't known each other yet and it will likely become the big failure. How about they save it and put it in maybe Germany or Peru instead? That would create lots of drama rather than this.
-
Or how about not putting it as the last thing to do on the leg and ANY TEAM who's U-TURN would have no opportunity to catch up and potentially die. If teams know that they are at the front, they are unlikely to use it, especially the 6th and 7th place teams since they are so near to the pitstop and don't need much of a buffer time.
BUT if it's in the middle of the leg, the U-TURN is often used because the middle teams know that they are in the back of the pack and would like to extend their lead over other teams!!!
I wish some TAR leg designers would read this and finally wake up their idea on the leg designs especially on legs that have a U-TURN. A U-TURN right at the back of the leg is totally not dramatic at all and does nothing!!?

This would be a good episode to consider for next year's Emmy submission. It had everything; solid tasks, beautiful scenery, ANIMALS!, hilarious drama and exciting competition.

In fact, I think the producers would know that it makes no sense for teams to use the U-turn right in front of the pitstop, especially without knowing the KOR twist.
If you think about it, the whole point of making a U-turn there is to force the team with EP to use it in Leg 4, because normally they would be afraid of getting U-turn so anyway will use it to get ahead. As you can see, it really worked as Tanner/Josh also followed what the producers wanted them to do.

This leg is supposed to be linear and boring, but glad that the bottom 4 teams kept making mistakes which made the leg suddenly interesting to watch! The first 4 were pretty boring and straightforward in comparison.
So funny that the bottom 4 making so many mistakes this leg:
Cindy/Rick - missing RB location
Logan/Chris - missing RB location, almost forgo the faster crocodile task
Tiffany/Krista - u-turning when in last place and probably know it's a KOR
Jazmine/Danielle - missing lion task location and forgot to find the clue
:funny: :funny: :funny:

Agree! :funny: :funny: :funny: Without the Bottom 4's mistakes, the episode would be too dull.

Tiffany and Krista should have known it was a KOR leg. They met Jazmine and Danielle on their way to the U-Turn board

I agree! They had THREE "first come, first served"/get in line tasks. Ugh. This Leg could've been a disaster, but the teams, SURPRISINGLY saved it and made it the best episode this season so far!
The teams have been pretty bland so far, partly because of the focus on Texas vs. Green. But with the rivalry taking a backseat this Leg, it gave time for every single team to get a chance to be featured. It was great.
-
So much happened this leg. :cheer:
Overall, I'm happy and this was DEFINITELY the best leg of the season so far. Nevertheless, it was just because of the teams and the mistakes they made, so I still have some negative things to say about this leg.
First of all, I agree that this time there was a lot LESS focus on Texas vs. Green, but the episode still began with that and the ENTIRE recap was about their rivalry. For me, it set a bad tone for the episode.
I really liked something that was posted here and I want to stress it even more: the tasks were basically tourist attractions, not challenges. And the only "challenging" one was the paddling one, which also proved rather easy. :groan:
Roadblock was great and after a KOR I didn't mind the slight bunching that happened due to the teams having to wait in line. However, the detour continued the linear trend and there was no true challenge in it.
I don't really want to say anything about the lion encounter, because I've read a lot of negative things about that task on TAR's facebook page and I don't know what to think. If what's being posted is true, then the inclusion of this task is really sad. :(
What got me frustrated was the thought that had teams not had any screw-ups like TrackStars not reading their clues or Papparazi/Chacattack missing their roadblock location, this leg would have been SO FRIGGIN BORING. And there was 0 possibility for any team to catch up during the tasks, because they always had to wait for those in front.
-
Btw, Denise is hilarious and Logan & Chris bickering and then reflecting on their bickering is giving some new life to this season.
And I forgot to mention how awesome balancing fruit on heads to the pitstop was :<3 Saved the episode and created amazing pitstop drama.
-
I just noticed that the scream of Tiffany when she fell at the roadblock was played agian when she was feeding the crocodile :funny:

Dedicating a post to the task which gave Denise and Earl James the leg win. <3

Wait, what was wrong with it?

Ignore them. More animal activists posing as TAR fans complaining about every little insignificant thing :res:
-
Which makes me even wonder if they watched the episode, with a part of the edit given to explain what was the point of the lion encounter and how they breed the lions so as to repopulate the specie... omg, i just can't deal with some so called "animal activists"... go be a vegan and survive on veggies then.
-
Screaming @ these people. They need their moment in the limelight. NEXT!
-
I didn't read TAR facebook and not know what's going on, but judging from the episode TAR didn't show any harm to any animal so far. I think what racers do was just normal sightseeing activities which ordinary people would also do, I really don't know what they are complaining about, it is not like they put those animals in closed cage and abuse them. :hoot:

There is great truth in what they are saying. The "front" is that the cubs are repopulated but in reality they are sent out on "canned kllls" for trophy hunters.
I need to research this particular group further but it doe not look like it was a wise choice, particularly coming right after the Cecil debacle.

This article seems to have a clear picture of the Lion Encounter site used:
http://matadornetwork.com/change/is-zimbabwes-lion-encounter-a-misdirected-conservation-program/ (http://matadornetwork.com/change/is-zimbabwes-lion-encounter-a-misdirected-conservation-program/)
May be a case of good intentions with poor implementation. Apparently, not ONE cub has been released thru this program. It is not clear where their older lions are sent.
I spent a long time in East Africa, I know that there is often miscommunication if not frank lying about the tourist wildlife events. We can all read and decide for ourselves, but caution is advised. Do your research, learn, be aware. TAR has taught me SO much about the locations thru the years, we can all learn and grow from every episode.
This too is an excellent article, with great info:

The latter was posted on facebook several times.
Thanks for going into detail, Peach!

Just so there's no misunderstanding, btw. The Cecil trophy kill was after TAR had filmed these 2 and a half episodes in the Victoria Falls area. And I seriously wonder what TPTB would have done had they been filming after rather than before that sad incident.
It is one reason why we have to keep such things in their proper context. (And a reason why I was leery about the Race going to Zimbabwe in the first place. Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe is not a place I'd stay in any longer than one has to.)

Thanks for the details Peach! Really give me more thoughts about this lion conservation operation.

This is one of the leg that I wish I can race in. <3 Every single tasks is so much fun. <333
Thanks to the mistake made by the last 3 teams or else it's gonna be super obvious who're gone. Since all the tasks are so linear. Waiting at RB, then waiting at Croc detour (Although it's OK since Croc is so much faster than the rowing side I think) then wait again at the walking. Like, seriously. And this happened after they just bunched up at mid-leg resting last leg.
The fruit balancing task before the Pit Stop is good. It shuffled up the position and I always love a little prep task before the Pit Stop. So gj for the production on that.
Also, lol at the editing of Tiffany and Cindy & Rick at the RB dancing and laughing about not being last then cutting suddenly to Krista's awkward face looking at sternous Logan & Chris. BEST MOMENT EVER.
-
This leg was actually pretty good! I loved the team developments we got, I wish more teams done the rafting! Overall a pretty solid leg and the athletes deserved to go for the several blunders they made...
Logan & Chris having their breakout episode being OTTN <3
