Justin & Dana - Justin created a fake version of the race and Justin proposed to Dana under the aurora borealis. And now they've been selected for the race!
Tanner & Josh - They plan on using flirtation as a strategy lol.
Alex & Adam - They have a form of dwarfism. And my mom and brother came home so I missed everything else. :lol:
Cindy & Rick - They're doctors!
Denise & James Earl - Denise's reaction to James coming out wasn't great... Denise hopes that she can be his hero again after this race.
Jazmine & Danielle - Track stars who broke the school record.
Logan & Chris - They're paparazzi. They're not celebrity obsessed. They chased Justin Bieber around a couple of days ago loool.
Tiffany & Krista - Former NFL cheerleaders. One of them has a Masters degree!

Task at Mother's beach for the first flight. 1 and only ticket on the first flight to Rio. 2nd flight leaves 30 mins later. Team that wins this first leg wins the EP as well.

I'm gonna have troubles with chacattack. Their accents are really prominent and I'm not used to it so it's gonna take a while for me to understand them. I'll get used to it.

Ff on leg 1?! Woah it's been a while!

Justin & Diana on the first flight.
TMZ giving an analysis of all the other teams. They think mother/son team is Norm & Bates? They think that beefcakes will fist bump a lot. They have questions about the primping process of the cheerleaders.
All other teams getting on the second flight. Once in Rio, proceed to Lagoa Helipad and sign up for a helicopter ride over Rio.
Second flight landed shortly after the first flight so Justin & Diana barely have a lead. They're first in a taxi. Other teams getting into taxis.
Ernest & Jin commenting that this looks like the ghetto of Brazil.
Justin & Diana see a Fast Forward clue. They decide to take a chance and do it. Task is a hanglider ride. It is weather dependent. They leave as Cindy & Rick arrive.
Cindy & Rick decide to just do the route info. Helicopter ride over Rio to Christ the Redeemer. When they land, answer the heliport manager's question about what they've seen .
Mother/daughter not doing FF. Beefcakes not doing FF. Track not doing FF. TMZ not doing FF. Logan & Chris not doing FF. Reporters not doing FF.
Cindy & Rick in the helicopter. Other teams in the helicopter as well. Cheerleaders currently in last waiting for the helicopter.

Even if the feedback from last season's 1st leg was bad, they should've gone for another 90-minute premiere this season. :( I think every premiere should be 90 minutes long.

If I had not watched TAR before, I would have thought Denise & James are best friends, not parent & child. The new team titles need the relationship. It's not an all-dating season.

We're back with Justin & Diana. Justin said he made the decision to take the FF and get the EP. Justin really upset about it. He's starting to cry. Diana is trying to cheer him up.
Cindy & Rick near the end of their helicopter ride. Denise & James Earl. Tanner & Josh feel blessed to have seen Christ the Redeemer.

"What's the name of the monument you passed on the flight?" Cindy & Rick get it. It's Christ the Redeemer lol. Detour: Sand or Sidewalk.
Sand: Play footbally against local pros. Teams can use their hands. Score 6 points before the pros score 18.
Sidewalk: Put a giant geometric slide puzzle together.
Cindy & Rick pick sidewalk. Denise & James Earl get the right answer and pick sidewalk.
Ernest & Jin preparing for the question by studying a map.

Copacabana Beach. Teams have to get in outfits. Cindy doesn't like Rick in short shorts. :lol: They begin on the puzzle after looking at the pavement. Denise & James Earl arrive.
One of Alex & Adam isn't okay with certain turns the helicopter guy is making. :lol: Seems queasy.
Tanner & Josh feel confident with the volleyball task. The pros are amazing wow! They're kicking the ball over the net and wow. Track stars also at volleyball.
Denise & James Earl doing the puzzle. Cindy not liking the tone that Rick is using towards him.
Track stars 5/6. Tanner & Josh 4/6... 5/6. Jazmine & Danielle need 1 more... Tanner & Josh need 1 more... Tanner & Josh done in 1st! Make your way to Arpoador Lookout. Last team to check in may be eliminated.
Tanner & Josh ask if they can walk to the pit stop and local tells them yes. Jazmine & Danielle done the task. Tanner & Josh say that if track stars get a cab, they'll lose 1st. Track stars get into a cab.
Denise & James Earl finish the puzzle!!! They're done the detour in 3rd. Cindy is telling Rick to switch or maybe it's the other way. Mother/son find out it's 2km to the pit stop and James Earl says they can run that.
Justin & Diana are officially in last right now and they're broke. They're on the helicopter ride.

TBH, I rather this rush and fast-pace premier rather than the 90-min one in TAR26 which almost absolutely nothing happened at the second half and I almost fall asleep.

The placings mostly depended on the helicopter rides, which were linear. The detour just shuffled some placements.
TAR25 premiere was much better for me, because the shuffle of placements in the roadblock was drastic for most of it.

We're back with cheerleaders and TMZ struggling. TMZ say that it would suck to get out in 1st because guys at work will make fun of them for that.
Justin can't believe that they're still in the race. He says that they can't make a stupid mistake again. Justin says he's not going to cry in the taxi... and then at the pit stop he almost cries while talking about not wanting this race to be over. :lol:
Cheerleaders and TMZ working on the puzzle... Cheerleaders have finished the puzzle! They're so happy! They're tearing up. Cheerleaders to the pit stop in 10th.
TMZ: "I went to Rio and all I got was skin cancer." They say they're going to get annihilated at work. TMZ finally finished the puzzle and they start crying. Phil has to come to them... and they've been eliminated from the race. "I'm the biggest loser that's ever played this race." They say maybe it's a karma thing... "PUH-LEASE." :funny: :funny: :funny: And they decide to hit the bar.

Same here... all I know is that Justin cries a lot. Tiffany&Krista's backpacks look really heavy. Is hard for me to understand chacattack and that Tmz girls get bully at work.

This was a decent premiere, definitely better than 26/24/23/21's openers.
The negatives were definitely editing, it felt a bit rushed and inconsistent?
Other than that, I really don't hate anyone in the cast, but Tiffany & Krista <3 <3 <3

I kinda like the premier, even though the Fast Forward and the Helicopter task are really meh. The Detour is really amazing, you know it's great when like half of the teams switch it right and left. <3
Jazmine & Danielle is doing really really better than I expect! I hope they manage to keep up their front of the pack. Tiffany & Krista is really <3. They are fun and their spirit to stay on the race is really strong and I hope they go really far. <333 Getting kick out of the Taxi in the middle of no where is <3. I kinda like Tanner & Josh too, they seemed like they're gonna have epic meltdown soon (Like the one on ST). And this is coming from the one who didn't cheer for M/M team, but I think they did a right job with M/M this season, no one had irritated me yet. :lol:
I think TMZ is such a missed opportunity since had they stay a little longer, they're gonna be like epic trainwreck lol. But since their elimination save Tiffany & Krista, I think I can't complain it. <33
So far, this season started off really intense and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season! The new graphic is nice and refreshing. And I wanna see how the EP twist is gonna turn out this year!

TMZ took almost 4 hours just to finish a slider puzzle. Wow! :funny: Phil had to come to them for that!? That slightly made up for the episode :lol: , but overall, it was underwhelming.
Most of the episode focused on Justin & Diana's fall. I don't remember seeing a lot about Jazmine & Danielle, Ernest & Jin, Joey & Kelsey, and Logan & Chris. It was obviously rushed, and the way that I'm thinking of which can fix this "underwhelmingness" in future seasons is if they add another task and extend 30 more minutes into the episode.
At least, a new season of TAR has started. :lol: I will be looking forward to more TAR every Saturday (my time zone). :hrt:

Like there was no suspense at all if they were out or if it was an NEL. It felt kinda off.

Like there was no suspense at all if they were out or if it was an NEL. It felt kinda off.
Yeah, which is why I think TAR26 premiere was slightly better.

I like it, before leg 5, because Tanner & Josh will more likely to use it now rather than just stick with it till leg 8. The twist of giving the EP would really shake it though. There's more to think about the EP so I think WRP did really good job with it.

So tonight, after snacking on popcorn and downing a martini glass of caiprinha made of cachaça and a splash of Sprite, all I have to say for this episode is, "What?"
Leg 1 (United States --> Brazil)

The beginning felt like a surge of an ocean coming at me, and before I knew it, the teams had arrived in Rio de Janeiro without telling us much about the team's backgrounds besides their cliché. Now I wish this was a 90-minute premiere to make up for the extremely speedy editing.
FAST FORWARD: (Gutsy Grannies' triumph)
I thought this would have been a crazy, fantastic start for the first Leg. But like TAR23, the wind won't stop for a team until the fat lady sings. An unused Fast Forward is like shopping on Christmas Day. You're out of luck. I am sad that Justin & Diana had to fall to the bottom of the pack in the first leg this way.
FAST FORWARD SCORE: 7/10
I thought touring the city in a helicopter was just an excuse to film overhead shots. As if anybody would forget the Christ the Redeemer statue if Ernest & Jin noticed the large touring map at the aviation agency. Still took in the beauty like I was riding in midair with one glass in my hand. Not a very good idea to think about.
DETOUR: (Cheating At Footvolley or Puzzled In Agony)
I loved how teams could just as easily lose in both tasks as win. Alex & Adam impressed me the most during this Leg, channeling their inner Charla spirits, and defeating the footvolley task in untroubled serves. And seeing the opponents use their head, literally, to bump the ball over the net, holy cowabunga! Kelly & Shevonne further impressed me at the pavement puzzle by taking three hours and forty-five minutes to finish. Though it did take that long, they did finish and that's what matters on the Race. Drinks well deserved. Cheers!
DETOUR SCORE: 8.5/10

UNIQUENESS & INTERESTINGNESS: 6/10 (reused TAR2 material like the hanggliders and footvolley, but the pavement puzzle was fine though I have seen sliding puzzles before: Amani & Marcus's Speed Bump in Malawi of TAR19)
WORDS ABOUT EDITING: 8/10 Mid-race introductions were a big mistake - Unnecessary choppiness. Bike race was a dud. The episode became a lot more focused nearing the end of the Leg. More suspense!

It was a good start, and I have few if any issues with editing.
Seems to me the editors focused on #team green's unlucky choice to go for the fast forward. It llokd to me they used the same location as TAR 2 did for the same tasks, and a team would have landed at Copacabana Beach.
The beach volleyball task was the same as in TAR 2 or 3. Was surprised some teams chose it, but my general impression is that teams that chose it finish the detour faster that teams doing the puzzle.
How the heck did #teamtexas make it to the mat first? My guess is that they used good taxis from the airport and after the helo flight. It was interesting to see the contrast between the Brazilian and American style of beach volleyball. As it was, I think the local were instructed to start letting team score points once the locals were up to 12, and some teams actually played under the American teams well enough to get their 6 points before then.
The puzzle shouldn't have taken 4 hours for any team. It seems to me many teams did not play off of the one piece that was painted onto the open space, and logically you would have matched the right side, the left side and the one blow that painted on piece first, and it would have made solving the puzzle a lot faster. This is where teams ended up shuffled up the order, especially if a team decided to switch detours.
All in all we could tell why teams reached the pit stop when they did except for #team tmz, which becomes one of the few teams Phil had to eliminate away from the pit stop.
And, how beautiful can #Rio be? It shows how enchanting the place is when TAR visits.

This was definitely an interesting premiere in terms of how the flights went down. With Justin & Diana landing in Brazil at basically the same time as the other 10 teams, all 11 teams were on equal ground right from the airport. I've always thought TAR should get 11 teams in one flight to keep the competition close, and here, we basically got that in this episode. However, the helicopters basically split everyone individually and lowered the level of intensity greatly. So if a Roadblock had taken the place of the helicopter task, we would have had a pretty tight first episode.
The standouts for me were Denise & James Earl, Justin & Diana, and Tiffany & Krista. I was so rooting for Jazmine & Danielle to randomly win the leg, but Tanner & Josh don't seem so bad. As for the other teams... they either were not shown much or I just don't really like them :lol:
I love the new text/team captions at the bottom of the screen. I never thought that needed a change, but the fresh new look looks great. That, to me, is a sign that they are still somewhat trying in their editing. And is it me, or are some of the shots (especially in the intro) extra picturesque this season? They look like shots from the TARAus intro, which is a good thing.
I am not a fan of how Phil came out to eliminate them. What, did the crew not want to wait? Sure, Team TMZ was taking too long, but the sun has barely set. At least let them finish the FIRST leg. If this were a case like Dana & Adrian's, I'd understand...
And what's with the way they introduce teams these days? Why did they have to proceed to the Starting Line when they did not even finish introducing all of the teams? It felt very choppy and rushed. I miss Phil saying "The 11 teams are..." They could have introduced the teams like old times and cut down on the helicopter shots (which got very repetitive if you ask me).
This left a better taste in my mouth than TAR 26's premiere. But nothing can beat TAR 25's premiere, which was excellent for a recent season.

Just the fact that it was the national flag of Malawi that they could see made it easier. What I don't know or can't remember is if that puzzle had the open space painted as was this detour option; and the source was much hard to remember and match up the pieces correctly. But still, solving that puzzle should not have taken 4 hours, and it is clear some teams that struggled with it and/or switched detour options really lost time compared to the beach volleyball. IIRC, the Rio beach volleyball task in season 2 was also relatively quick as well. The fact that #thecousins accomplished the volleyball task contrary to intuition, is also a confirmation that the puzzle was in fact the more difficult option.

I just loved that in this episode the team that made some kind of mistake was able to come back usually that doesn't go like that (Natalie and Nadiya,Hoskote and Naina, Misa and Mayia, etc...) :trampb: and that was the team I'm rooting for so that's great too :D

It was a nice premier, but, just a Detour?? C'mon The Amazing Race, you can do it better!
I don't know why Phil had to go to the beach to tell the girls they were eliminated... I mean, there was sun, they can go to the mat. No need to go to the beach because it's midnight or something. :/
The edit was a little bit meh.
I really like the cast, I really like the route, but this premier wasn't the best. There were better.
Btw, I have a lot of expectations for this route, and I'm sure it will be amazing. :)

I just rewatched the episode, and even though it was still underwhelming, I noticed how TMZ's "look good" and "do good" comment on the cheerleaders backfired to their detour performance. :funny: :funny: :funny: Seriously, who finishes a 4 by 4 slider puzzle in almost 4 hours!? :groan: :wtf: :wall:

I like the episode? I thought the editing was fast paced, and am generally appreciative of the really different style of editing. We just need to get used to it! Getting teams' intro after the race has started was okay for me, it seemed rather confusing because I didn't know who have had their intro done already.. but thank goodness the teams were quite diverse so it was easy to differentiate them.
We have the mother/son, the reporters, tmz, dancers (again not being racist but really, it's easy to diff), alex/adam (i wouldn't call them little people, but they're easy to diff you see), justin/diana, cheerleaders, asians (again not being racist but really, it's easy to diff), good looking tanner/josh, paparazzi and the athletic girls. Really really a diverse group.
I am surprised that the mother/son, tanner/josh, justin/diana, jazmine and danielle and ernest and jin got the main bulk of the edit. (Sorry, am an editing freak here, so I like to analyse it)
The paparazzi, reporters, alex/adam and the cheerleaders were not as much exposed as them. Not sure about cindy and rick's edit but it was most certainly not positive. And this group = also the group i do not like as much.
LOVED THE HELICOPTER RIDE. THANK GOD AMAZING RACE FOR SHOWING SUCH AN AMAZING AERIAL VIEW OF BRAZIL.
Would have loved to see the Fast Forward play out, but am certainly happy that Justin and Diana thought of it as a humbling experience. They certainly went from cocky to reflecting and when Justin cried just because he wanted to be so badly in the race, I felt for him. It would have sucked to be eliminated from a bad decision you made which didn't even seem bad (who would have thought of the chances of them not being able to fly?). Is there a way to call the place to check? I don't think so lol considering the circumstance.
AND OH, A MOMENT OF APPRECIATION FOR THE LOVELY CAB DRIVER WHO DROVE THEM FOR FREE <333333333333333

I like the Detour, it was fair, and a matter of SKILL VS BRAINS.
I think some teams may be disadvantaged but at the same time... 18 vs 6... I think you just gotta try and you'll get it. As for the slide puzzle, I was watching the episode and remembered that slide puzzles are more of a patience thing. You gotta keep one piece in tact, and move the other pieces carefully in order. But first you must make sure you get the pieces in their right places (divide the puzzle into two, then move all the pieces to their correct left and right positions, then start solving it)... BUT then again it's easier said than done.
One thing for sure, BRAINS ARE NOT AN ASIAN THING FOR CINDY AND RICK. :funny:

All going well, I'll hopefully do a Pros & Cons List / Review for each episode after it airs. I'll probably start with the Negatives, so that we end on a happy note with the Positives.
Negatives:
- Phil not introducing the Teams at the Start. This was the thing I hated most about S26, but excused it due to the format, with half the Teams being Blind Dates. There is absolutely NO REASON for this to carry over to a normal Season. :groan:
- Phil once again NOT announcing all Team Placements at the Pitstop. :gaah:
- A Fast Forward on the 1st Leg, when there's an EP at stake? :groan:
- ENOUGH WITH THE HASHTAGS. Or a least make them meaningful to the Team. E.g #MotherSon rather then #TeamAlabama. Like someone else already said, it's not a gimmick Season.
- Spreading out the Helicopter departure times. I mean we could have had at least two Teams depart at a time. It really killed the suspense. I LOVE when all the teams are bunched together, and if this Leg had have had a RB, and then the Detour, with ALL teams bunched together for the whole, (or most of), the Leg, it would have been Amazing. (TAR 18 Leg 2 Perfected this with all 11 Teams at the Detour at the same time) Stupid Helicopter sign up. (:;)
- Once again a predictable Leg Winner. :groan: And I could almost predict that they'll give the EP too one of the F/F teams, most likely the Cheerleaders. (Providing they survive that long) - This is solely based on my imagination of them forming an alliance. :lol:
- Kelly & Shevonnes Elimination. This team could have been great. They really need another NEL on Leg 1. Its been 8 Seasons since the last one. :'(
- Finally the whole Leg design was disastrous. Like I said earlier, there should've been a RB AND a Detour. Producers need to take a good long look at TAR Aus, and Canada's first Legs. They're able to throw in loads of tasks in Leg 1. I know it's all down to the Budget, and this and that, but come on, if other Versions can do it, WHY CAN'T CBS DO THE SAME!!!!
Positives:
- The Cast on a whole, apart from Josh & Tanner, are great, so far anyway.
- The revamped graphics look sharp, and I'm really liking them.
- The Fast Forward flopping like TAR 24. :hoot:
Unsure Of:
- The new EP twist. Why bother having a twist? It would have been better if they just kept the 2 EP's, where both Teams had to use them before the 5th Leg. I'll just wait to see how this one turns out.
So there's my quick run down. Can't believe I've only 3 Positives. ??? I'm praying this isn't a sign of things to come.

The amount of dumb teams this season is off the charts ... but it is very entertaining I laughed my ass of so hard! and drama queens are the funniest. I'm a sucker for Best Friends/Brothers teams so I'm automatically rooting for Tanner & Josh. :conf:

There is only one hang gliding place in Rio. That is Sao Conrado. The take-off place is on the NE side of Pedra de Gavea and the landing place is on the beach at Sao Conrado. It is way to far to fly to Copacabana....4-5 miles. In TAR 2 teams landed in front of the condos in Sao Conrado. I would think on this one, they might have landed in front of the Sheraton/Intercontinental Hotel, just to get close to the taxi stand. Then the FF winner would have taken a taxi to Arporador to the pit stpp.

Before the race started, i don't really like the TMZ team, but after watching the premiere, they are nicer than i expected. I wish it was NEL because they seem fun & could be our trainwreck team this season lol..

I wish the Active Route Marker was harder like how tall was Christ the Redeemer.

Same here... all I know is that Justin cries a lot. Tiffany&Krista's backpacks look really heavy. Is hard for me to understand chacattack and that Tmz girls get bully at work.
I don't think it's that the girls get bullied at work. It's more getting teased and picked on in a friendly manner rather than getting bullied or picked on maliciously. It might be hard to understand if you've never worked at a place where this happens, but it's fairly common in places I've worked. When people are liked by others, they get friendly ribbing. (For example, if they were in my office they would have come back to work to find slide puzzles all over their desks.) When people are not liked, they get ignored. I don't watch TMZ, but I've caught episodes from time to time and it seems like that type of work place.

Oh don't worry I understand the context of TMZ. Is basically their job to make jokes about people, report a celebrity coming out of dinner among other things. TMZ can be really funny sometimes, it airs here usually around 5 or 6 in the morning for like 15 minutes or so and I watch it whenever it's on and I can't fall sleep. It was just a jab at the edit of the episode.

Looking back at Season 25, Phil introduced the start line place with a few descriptions, then he proceeded to introduce the teams one by one, then what would you expect in the race + the prize in Leg 1.
(For Season 27, there were shots of all the teams running in the sand as seen in the live sightings thread. It implied to me that these will be the clips of them that will be used in the introduction. How come the backstory of Kelsey & Joey, Kelly & Shevonne and Ernest & Jin were shown while they were in the cabs during the premiere?) ???

In Season 19, the "Umbrella" Start Line Task was edited enough for the viewers to see and understand how the teams reacted. In Season 27's "Water Bike Race" Start Line Task was a breeze. We did not even get to see how Tanner & Josh got to shore after their bike bogged down.
In previous seasons, we got to see teams mingle at the airport. In Season 27, We only saw a glimpse of Tanner & Josh shaking hands with Kelly & Shevonne, Kelly & Shevonne giving their impressions of Tiffany & Krista, Tanner & Josh and Denise & James Earl, Tiffany & Krista "saying Rio!" and Kelsey & Joey boarding.
Going to Rio De Janeiro, I was underwhelmed. This is such an awesome destination. :'( In my opinion one of the best premieres in the HD Era (Seasons 18-27) from TAR was Season 20, 22, 23 and 25. If they simply did it like Season 22's premiere then it would be a winner to me.
It would have been better if there was a Roadblock after the Helicopter task. Something that would involve Brazilian culture, such as:
> A task where one team member had to eat Brazilian food and identify what they have eaten. It's like a memory task.
> A task where one team member had to participate in Rios Jockey Club. (Horse-Racing)
> If the weather was good, I would have turned the hang-gliding task a Roadblock
> Carnival inspired task
For the Fast Forward, knowing that the Express Pass is up for grabs, it should not just be given easily. I would change the hang-gliding task to a harder one like replicating an intricate sandcastle on Ipanema beach so as the team that would take it would not see the teams in Copacabana beach.
Phil said, they listened to what the fans want. They did it with the route, with the cast, going back to roots, the throwback theme but not the editing based on the 1st episode. Hopefully the next episodes will be better. One more thing I'd rather see team's relationship rather than hashtags.

I noticed a problem with the new TAR era (25-27) and idk, I just feel like the editing needs more improvement now than ever =/
IDK but I just miss everyone reading the clue, Phil announcing Pit Stop placements, and even smaller touches. It seems to have started with 24, since I noticed that 24 marked the beginning of:

*Y omg good job*
*subtitle flashes of their team and placement*
*cut to other team*
in the editing.
I hope they return to the old style editing of even 23 tbh, look at how the new era of TAR25 onwards are amazing, it would be 99999x better with snappier editing.
I also noticed the 27 premiere was only 41 minutes, which is shockingly less than the 45 minute average. Did they have to cut the budget a little for more ads? :(

Actually, no. It sounds as if the wind speed wasn't going to come down enough and waiting probably would have resulted in an elimination because of the travel time involved had they waited until later to change their minds.

When you purchase the downloaded episodes from ITunes, they are all between 43 and just under 44 ninutes.

No, and I wouldn't have waited either. Had their plane not been delayed, maybe they would have waited but with the other teams so close behind? No.

I wondered the same thing while I was watching ... My guess is they spent it on Xanax :funny: The guy was an emotional trainwreck and the season did not start yet! He will be interesting to watch during the season ... and I have a feeling we did not see the last of his waterworks :funny:

what's up with the super un-HD aerial shots of Rio?!?! I feel like I'm watching footages from 15 years ago.
anyway, there a LOT of new amazing music however they tend to just drown allllll scenes with them (e.g. shows X team attempting detour, play music WITHOUT any edits whatsoever)
What happened in the editing bay? Quality seemed to drop year after year since TAR 20. :( Bring back TAR14-TAR17 intense editing!
