Wow!! Thanks for sharing! A split team? ???
-
That's very interesting! I think this is the second time racers from different teams have known each other beforehand? (The first time was TAR12 when several racers went to the same High School).
-
Ooo! I like the modified blue version of the current TARUS title card.

They are in TIMES SQUARE now!
-
This is exactly the version we've mentioned in the thread "China Rush 4 News and Media," the new version produced by Shenzhen TV, not the origional ICS/Dragon TV.
One thing to clarify is that this time there're only 8 teams. The other 3 teams picked from the audition will be participating in the intersection in one leg, helping the 8 celeb teams.
-
Wow!! Thanks for sharing! A split team? ???
Jordan Chan & Cherrie Ying, as husband & wife, were supposed to form a team originally. But the partner of Liu Yun couldn't participate, thus Cherrie Ying joined her team instead. Jordan Chan and Ekin Cheng formed a team, who both acted in the gangland movie Punk.
PLUS: The name of Zhang Tielin's daughter is Moon (maybe a nickname). "Yueliang" is the counterpart of the word "moon" in Chinese.
-
Maybe looks like a start line challenge with the balloons?
Chinese fans are guessing that it is probably like the starting line challenge in S20.
-
It seems that a lof of photos fans took with celeb contestants have been uploaded on Instagram or somewhere else.
Those celeb contestants even have time to do so at the NYK airport. :res: Groan.
-
Good Lord.
This is the sloppiest security I have EVER seen. Does NO ONE tell people asked to be involved to be confidential? :groan:
The tasks in NYC should be done, so take a look at what quick searches revealed. And I have the next stop pretty well covered as well. Sheesh.

Rumor says the filming is delayed due to some trouble with the crew's visas...
-
What an interesting Race hehe.
-
It's not directly related to the race itself, but I find it interesting and hence I put it here:
Two celebrities who the crew contacted and were cut before filming are under arrest for stashing and taking marijuana (over 100 grams, a felony that could sentence the criminal to 3 or more years' imprisonment). That arrest is a big piece of news in Chinese entertainment.
The crew are so lucky.

American jail or Chinese labor camp?

American jail or Chinese labor camp?
Ordinary jail. China has abolished the labor-camp system. Usually people who take drugs commit only a misdemeanor and are to be detained for 14 days. But this time one of the duo (Jackie Chan's son) stashed so much marijuana that was more than twice of the conviction criterion (50 grams), and thus he may be convicted of drug trade which would definitely be a felony.
-
The second nation visited is India.
There may be an alteration in the host, according to some inside news.
-
The eliminated team in US leg is
Show content
Bai Jugang(singer from PRC) / Guan Xiaotong (actress from PRC)
.
-
NEWS: We'll see a host replacement!
Allan Wu returns to be the host of the show! He'll host the following legs since Leg 3 (India). The original host Andy On only hosts the first two legs (American legs). There'll be explanation for doing this on the show.
Although the real reason for doing this, according to the rumor, is that Show content
the crew are not satisfied with Andy's hosting. Maybe that's due to his lack of experience?
-
:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: .
-
Really such an interesting production.
But yay for Allan. It just feels right having Allan, doesn't it?
ETA: It seems Allan has pretty much spoiled the entire Jaipur leg on his official Facebook page! lol

It's not even comparable to some contestants' spoilers on Weibo.com directly saying "we're strategizing for the third leg of #TheAmazingRaceChina which is in India and please support us and give us advice" blablabla... :funny:

The filming for India legs was over last night. The crew returned to Hong Kong.
SOURCE: Baidu Forum. Someone claims that his friend spotted the crew.

Yes, he was invited, but got cut later. (Or he refused to race. We don't know exactly what happened.)

The entire route has been divulged on Weibo.com. (The picture looks really official :res:)
Leg 1: US (NEL)
Leg 2: US
Leg 3: India
Leg 4: India (NEL)
Leg 5: Dubai
Leg 6: Dubai
Leg 7: Greece (NEL)
Leg 8: Greece
Leg 9: Austria (NEL)
Leg 10: Hong Kong & Shenzhen (Finale)
It's very weird to have 3 teams only at the beginning of Leg 9 and to make that leg a NEL. We'll see a speedbump in the finale. :funny:
ETA: Here's the original picture. I have a feeling that all teams know which leg is an elimination leg and which one is not. :res:

I don't think the crew mind spoilers. Allan Wu himself posted a lot of spoilers on his Facebook too.
Here's picture on Allan's Instagram. A Chinese fan commented, "is this what Phil experienced in Ukraine that time?"

They've filmed 4 legs out of 10. They'll still be filming by the time it airs.

Hope we can watch live like we did before! :hearts:
But there'll probably be no English version. Shenzhen is unlike ICS which is an English language channel. :(
I'll ask fans in Baidu forum if there's anyone willing to subtitle the show in English by then (or if there's any possibility to do so). Some fans there who founded a "subtitle group" have been doing very well in subtitling the American, Canadian and Australian version of TAR in Chinese. Hope they'd like to do a reverse job :)
ETA: Now it seems that the copyright is not a big deal... Then if all things go well, we fans here may upload the subtitled episodes unto Youtube and leave the link here, like what Topita did with the Dutch version of The Mole. :)

I wish every TAR was like TAR Vietnam, uploading full HD episodes onto YouTube, no problem :hoot:

has internaoinal show has ever been austria and greece when is preimer
Yes as Austria & Greece was only visited by original US version.
Austria has been visited 5 times (S3, S4, S14, S18 and S23)
Surprisingly Greece has only visited 1 time (S9), even only 1 visit for overall TAR franchise :o , so this time visit would be the franchise 2nd time to visit Greece after 8 years.

There's a hiatus about one month between two legs. So they can do so.

I'm watching it on live. What a horrid edit.
A very boring edit + low pace + weird BGM which disappears and shows up often. I can't tell this is the Amazing Race...
Contestants tell the pedestrians that "we're on the Amazing Race"... Isn't it that teams are not allowed to tell others what show they're in?
-
The first penalty occurred because
Show content
Wallace Chung's team lost their cameraman and director on their way to the airport
.
Such penalty has never happened in the history of TAR before, right? :funny:

"We're on The Amazing Race..."
"Well I don't want to be on it."

And then the team asking Spiderman!

Oh god this is such a trainwreck! :funny:
Quick opinions after the first 30min:
Drunk cameramen, lost cameramen, cameramen that keep appearing in the shot...
There can't be a huge audience that understands all three languages the contestants use on the show!
They shouldn't force Jordan/Ekin to use their terrible Mandarin.
Don't like that the show assumes I know who the rest of these people are!

This is why I don't like this version. They just spoil the reputation of TAR. :tantrum
They should hire the cameraman that has able to stick with the teams all the time.
EVEN THEY INTERFERE WITH THE TEAMS TO TELL THEIR MISTAKE AND CORRECT IT :groan:
-
I kept wishing that episode would fast forward itself! I have never been this bored watching an episode of TAR...and this is coming from someone who started watching in Season 1, Episode 1! HOW I miss China Rush.

In addition to that, I find Zhang Tielin's confessional about the American football challenge interesting (according to my memory, translated by myself):
The moment I saw the challenge I said "let my daughter herself do this," but the director replied that this was a challenge in which both team members had to perform. Then I was stunned. I said to the director, "I can't do this. This will make me hypertensive." This, this and that are not fit for the challenge (Zhang pointed to his head, heart and body). The director suggested, "then what about choosing another detour at your discretion?"
This is the first time I know that the director can suggest to contestants the challenge that may fit them. :groan: :groan:

I've no idea. Maybe that's due to the schedule of some celeb contestants. For the filming of every leg the crew have to find a period of time when all contestants can participate.

Yes. There's always a hiatus of 1 month or two between two consecutive legs just because of that.

I don't know what show you guys were watching, I thought this was absolutely spectacular. I mean, when you compare this to shows like TAR Vietnam, TAR Ukraine and even a little bit to TAR Latin America, this stands above them. Good image quality, upbeat and colourful teams, good challenges, and STRUCTURE.
Sure we can see the cameramen, but I don't really care. I think that when the show tries to cut out EVERY image of a cameraman, then we lose too much. We're not kids any more, so we don't need the 'illusion' that cameramen don't exist.
I also loved how they weren't afraid to show off fans of the show and people talking about the fact that they were on the show. It's more realistic and it just made me smile.
Now, on a serious note, I am having way too much trouble telling Luichang and Jin Dachuan apart. The Wiki says that Jin did both Roadblocks, but I'm not so sure about that. Can anyone confirm?
Also, I'm going to be writing extensive wiki things soon, and unfortunately I can't read Chinese websites. If anyone can find the contestants' hometowns and ages, I would be very very grateful!

I appreciate your encouragement to Shenzhen's version. It's just that the fact that China Rush has been a very good example to which Shenzhen's version is not comparable at all frustrates many fans...
As to the info of teams about hometowns and ages, I'd write it down here: (for other info please read my previous post)
Name (Age, Hometown, Province)
TEAM 1: Cherrie YING 应采儿 (31, Taipei, Taiwan) and LIU Yun 刘云 (32, Changsha, Hunan)
TEAM 2: LIU Chang 刘畅 (28, Dongtai, Jiangsu) and JIN Dachuan 金大川 (21, Taian, Shandong)
TEAM 3: BAI Jugang 白举纲 (21, Mianyang, Sichuan) and GUAN Xiaotong 关晓彤 (aka Traey Miley, 17, Beijing)

Official Weibo implies that Zhang Tielin's team may be eliminated in Dubai.

Peach, should we set up a links thing for this thing?

I'm watching EP2 live. I must say this episode is WAY MUCH BETTER than the trainwreck premiere. :)
At least it turns out to be something that I may deem as a version of TAR--although the pace and rhythm of editing is about half or 2/3 of China Rush... BGM does disappear sometimes but for the most of the time there is.
-
Ratings/Share for EP1 is #5 on last Friday night.

Thanks for your spoilers, alltsa!
Allan Wu showed up on Shenzhen TV's talk show The Generation Show where he disclosed that he replaced Andy On because Andy's schedule didn't allow him to film anymore.
Hence Allan Wu has become the first host ever to host 3 versions of TAR, a record waiting to be broken :)

EP2 of TAR China got a rating of 0.822 and a share of 2.86 to make it #6 on last Friday night. It was a slight drop.

ETA: The names of the shows #3 to #5 last Friday are exactly what were listed in Reply #135 as #2 to #4 a fortnight ago. #1 is still Running Man China, and #2 last Friday is Running Men Are Coming, a spin-off show of Running Man China.

Leg 1: US (NEL)

Leg 6: Dubai
Leg 7: Greece (NEL)
Leg 8: Greece
Leg 9: Austria (NEL)
Leg 10: Hong Kong & Shenzhen (Finale)
It's very weird to have 3 teams only at the beginning of Leg 9 and to make that leg a NEL. We'll see a speedbump in the finale. :funny:
ETA: Here's the original picture. I have a feeling that all teams know which leg is an elimination leg and which one is not. :res:

Yes. There seems to be a change in the itinerary with Austria replaced.
And there're also some changes in the arrangement of NELs. Details unknown.

The final 3 was determined in Greece.
The final 3 will race in south korea and one team still have to complete the speedbump in the finale.
Also, there was a running task in Greece.

did the india air
Yes. Last night EP3--the Indian leg--aired.
Allan Wu returns to be the host, he saying "I'm being a relay."
Sometimes he appears to introduce the task. But most of the introduction is done by the dubber, the same voice in the former two episodes.
It might be the fact that I haven't watched China Rush for so long that I'm not accustomed to Allan Wu's affected countenances and ranting his lines. :groan: His Mandarin, as I feel, has backslided. Awful. :)

Seems like a waste of money to me. It would be cheaper for them to just do one continuous race rather than stopping and starting. They should just recruit some ordinary people so they won't have a dragged out schedule of filming.

Made it through the end of Leg 5... and I can't believe it, but it's not that bad!
Love that the challenges are hard. Hardest out of all the editions of the race I've seen, except maybe the first half of TAR:A 3! I don't know how these celebrities can do all of it.
And despite filling the cast with celebrities, I'm really getting to like all of them. Love that teams randomly break into English and Cantonese. (Anqi (gymnast wife): "很 special 的 plate") Of course I'm rooting for my hometown teams Wallace/Jackie (brother/sister) and Jordan/Ekin (buddies), but all of them are adorable in their own way. Special points for trash-talking and unconvincing-lying Cica (the loud-mouthed girl)! But these guys have no idea how this show works. Not knowing what to do at a U-Turn, not knowing how a Fast Forward works, and relying on the field producers explain the rules on air? Well in that regard this show is still a trainwreck.
They really don't mind breaking the fourth wall in this one. Is it like this for all Chinese reality TV shows? You see cameramen running around, producers giving instructions, producers helping to wipe the celebrities' faces, getting scolded by/scolding the teams, and bringing them water to wash their hands? :ascared
Not sure why they got rid of the first host. He wasn't that bad, and they didn't give him much screen time anyway. Allan Wu is so over the top. (Aladdin? Really?) And his Chinese... :groan:
The first-place prize is hilarious. (Gonna leave the non-Chinese speakers hanging there for a while.) You can see how excited the recipients are!
I was the one who came up with the concept of a duel in 2003 (http://community.realitytvworld.com/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/rtvw2/community/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=1440&forum=DCForumID20&archive=yes) (search for "tennis stars" to get to the right post), 8 full years before even HaMerotz did it. And I still like the idea! Sometimes it's just cool to see teams going head-to-head against each other.
-
I'm gonna need a description of the prize for the wiki. Was there a prize on legs 2 3 or 4?
-

Yeah, the winning team got the milk free for one year on legs 2~4.
Leg 3 winners got an exclusive taxi and driver for leg 4.
Leg 4 winners got 1200 2000 Dirham for leg 5 while other teams got only 120.

jumeriahJumeirah Group, the global luxury hotel company and member of Dubai Holding, has partnered with the popular reality TV game show ‘The Amazing Race China.’
Hosted by Allan Wu, a Singapore-based Chinese-American actor, the show was filmed from 18 – 22 October 2014 at various locations at Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and Mina A’Salam. I ran across this tweet from yesterday. I'm not sure if it's useful as the guy says he only recognizes "Amazing Race" in the Chinese text and I don't understand much more myself.
Conor @cobyrne · 13h 13 hours ago
Based on only the words "the amazing race" I think they're filming here at the condo in China. I have some tips..
Conor @cobyrne · 13h 13 hours ago
...the building is directly on the subway line that goes to all the railway stations and also right beside an airport express bus stop.
The first tweet included a picture of a notice in Chinese. All I can read is The Amazing race and 11 22 9:30-11:20.
Could TAR 26 be going to China 1-2 days from now? Can we get a translation of the picture in the tweet? I've attached it below.
Unfortunately, I can't get any idea where in China he's located from his tweets.

Wikipedia is saying something about an unaired Yield in Abu Dhabi. What's more, it was used? Anything to back this up?

Calvin Chan & Zhou Weitong used it on Jin Dachuan & Liuchang. Not sure why it wasn't aired.
Zhou Weitong's bad temper shown in EP5 irritated a lot of viewers. Oven 10 thousand critical comments were spawned on Zhou's Weibo, forcing her to disable the function of commenting from Weibo users when browsing her site. I'm guessing the crew were afraid that such application of Yield by Zhou may raise more controversy that they decided not to air this clip.

Chinese 'Amazing Race' calls off Israel shoot
Tourism Ministry strike forces Chinese production of successful reality game show to reconsider plan to film a leg of competition in Holy Land.

The Chinese production of reality television game show "The Amazing Race" will likely be forced to cancel its plans to film a leg of the competition in Israel next month due to a workers strike at the Tourism Ministry, Ynet has learned.
Tourism Ministry officials have expressed their disappointment over the cancellation plans after the ministry has invested many efforts in increasing the exposure to Israel in China.
About four years ago, the Australian version of "The Amazing Race" broadcast two episodes shot in Israel. The show's contestants visited Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and Masada, and their tasks included playing matkot (a popular paddle ball game) and interpreting a scroll written in Hebrew.

"The Amazing Race" is a successful reality format worldwide in which teams of two people race against other teams while moving from country to country around the globe. The team that arrives first in the final leg receives the grand prize.
The fourth season of the Israeli version of the show began last Saturday on Channel 2. It is broadcast by the Reshet television network and has particularly high ratings.
The Tourism Ministry offered the following response: "The Chinese production of 'The Amazing Race' expressed its desire to film in Israel in the beginning of December. The Ministry is working to get organized in time and cater to the production's complex demands.
"We have only a week and a half to prepare the logistics for five teams and dozens of participants, alongside the uncertainty regarding accommodation possibilities in light of the Tourism Ministry workers' strike."

Ooo! It'd be great for another TAR to go to Israel! I guess the Asian TARs will be more likely to do Israeli Legs than either TARUS or #RaceCDA.

I guess the crew didn't realize Bai & Guan's team--the team that has most fans--would be eliminated so early. They need those fans for the ratings.

There's something needed to clarify: SAVE is not THE SAVE.
THE SAVE is a new twist introduced in the 25th season of American edition to prevent a team from elimination in a pre-determined elimination leg.
SAVE is a new twist introduced in the first season of Shenzhen's edition to resuscitate a team, like the outcast twist in the 7th American season of Survivor.

I'm noticing that this show is using different Chinese names for tasks (Detour, Roadblock, etc...) than in China Rush. I need these names typed out for me, if at all possible. The Chinese Wikipedia is still using the China Rush names, so no help there.

The race course map that showed up in this episode seemed to depict some tall white building after the Detour and before the fish market. Was some location or task edited out, perhaps?

:) Just for completeness, recently ran across this TAR China (Season 1) press release from 2014. Nice to see some behind the scenes crew action from the race. Also says a lot about product placement. :funny:

So, I just got done re-watching the whitewater rafting task in the Abu Dhabi episode, and I'm shocked I didn't comment on it in this thread before.
No ifs ands or buts about it, this was a STUPID idea by producers. This ranks up there as one of the most unsafe tasks TAR has ever done before. For those of you who don't know, imagine the TAR23 task where they had to ride down the rafting course and grab three flags. It's the same here, except the executives apparently decided this wasn't interesting enough. So, to make it more challenging, they raised the flags up so that no contestant would be able to grab them without jumping. Yeah. Jumping in a moving white-water raft.
Nearly every single contestant walked away from the task with an injury of some sort. Yiru got a gash on his face, Xiaopeng got tons of abrasions on his arms and legs as well as an excess of water in his ears. Weitong got trapped underwater briefly, and she was very upset once she reached shore. She was loudly yelling at production and fellow contestants that she nearly lost her life just for a game, and I sympathize with her. You can see that many of the other teams were quite upset at what they had to go through.
Of course, let's not forget that this task took a team out of the race due to injury. Yueliang ("Izabella") slipped off of her raft and got dragged under it by the pull of the water. As she described on-air, the bone in her lower leg actually popped out and then back into its socket. She nearly dislocated her tibia, and her father was too concerned to let her continue.
This still stands out to me as one of the hardest things on TAR to watch. It's really dangerous and a bad idea, and I'm surprised no-one on the crew spoke up and said they should probably make things a little bit safer for the contestants. Does anyone agree?
-
Oh wow, I totally forgot about that. I need to rewatch the first season. That was insane.
-
This sounds terrible. Where is the safety of The Amazing Race? Clearly, these Chinese version doesn't have safety rules, like the US version!
-
I finished watching TAR China 1 a few months ago. I have the exact same sentiment about the insane rafting task in the UAE. I watched that episode with knowledge of Godfrey Gao's death in another Chinese TV show, Chase Me, in Nov 2019.
The TAR producers were lucky that everyone survived that challenge.
---
Anyway my fave team that season was Li Xiaopeng and Li Anqi. I think they were one of only two teams to have finished in the top 3 in every leg they finished, with an average placement of 1.73 overall. Interestingly, Li Xiaopeng also starred in that ill-fated show Chase Me, but he appeared on a different episode.
