The Amazing Race To Become The Average Game
By Mike Fahey, 10:40 AM on Fri Mar 27 2009, 1,295 views CBS and Ludia have teamed up for an exciting race through exotic locales, developing video games based off the Emmy Award-winning reality show The Amazing Race.
Ludia, the company that brought us Hell's Kitchen, American Idol, and Where's Waldo video games in the past, is looking to add another fair to middling television show adaptation to their line up, securing the rights to The Amazing Race. Games will be released across multiple unnamed platforms in with the show's 14th season, which is currently underway.
"The heart-pounding adventure, around-the-world competition and postcard worthy settings of ‘The Amazing Race' are perfectly suited for video game adaptation," said Alex Thabet, Founder and CEO of Ludia. "We are thrilled to add such a high-energy, suspenseful franchise to our slate, and we will infuse those key elements into a highly social, team-based multiplayer game that unites duos in cooperative game play to compete against rivals.
A highly social, team-based multiplayer game sounds lovely, though having played some of Ludia's other titles my excitement level is through the floor for this one.

when will people learn that you can not turn a reality show into a video game...

Imagine The Sims on a reality show

Don't care, its TAR so it will be awesome by association.
PLEASE RELEASE IT ON THE WII!
-
Why not? That would be awesome!!! :wohoo:
-
Possible Wii mini-games...
Drive the double-decker bus
Milk the camel
Draw on your competitors' photo after being Yielded
Rowing basket boats
Slapping Flo
Isn't the Sims already a reality TV show? I mean it's covered by this board too right?
-
OH MY! I want this!!!!!
Would it include the "create your better race route than the producers and submit it (via Wi-Fi) to BvM or CBS minigame?" If so! YES! Why not! :hearts: :hearts:
I hope they get Google to aid them, Google Maps rock!
As a fan, I hope game makers in Ludia hears this
Add those racers we love, and love to hate, and let us allow to beat them in foot races, tasks and everything all the time!
I hope we can have those interactions, like yelling at the cabdrivers and such!
I also hope that we have our own characters! And most of all... Flo!
Good luck on the producers, hope that this epic show would also bring about the epic change in the video game industry! :hearts: :jumpy:

OMG, I will get the Slapping Flo game!
Drinking the Hungarian Soup, eating Ostrich egg and Caviar. :funny:

That is so wrong, yet so funny!!! :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny:

When would this be released? Where would this be released? I hope they don't let us wait too long for this game!!! :jumpy:
-
Maybe it will be a multiple choice action-consequence game.
For example:
Your cab driver is overtaken by another team, putting you in second last.
Do you:
A. Complain loudly to the driver in a language he can't understand, then threaten to open the cab door if another tries to pass you, then end up coming last in a footrace.
B. Cry and quit for the 27th time that day.
C. Tell your wife you want to get a divorce, then force her to eat insanely hot soup, before making her carry your bag to the Pit Stop.
D. Tell your daughter she needs to lose weight, shortly before crashing your Bakefit into a gutter.
I would buy that game.
-
Wouldn't it be beyond awesome to integrate Google Street View?
Imagine the Osaka taxi Roadblock, with Sims on the street to ask for direction... (Most of them only speak Japanese, though.)

Your evil Neobie :jam:

Unless it had an online update feature, I wouldn't consider buying it, IMO having predetermined tasks might make it boring, unless they had the Slap Flo minigame like in Warioware Smooth Moves LOL
-
Or I would love the "Cut the devil horns off Adam" feature.
-
It would be fun to race as any past team and select all the other teams to race you, with different results each time!
Choose a race route from a past season or choose various other destinations and make your own race route to race on!
Love that concept right there! I hope that is what it becomes, because then I'll buy it. :yess:

how about "pull off" instead
-
It shouldn't be outside the realm of reality to have this, right?
Racecourse set-up
1. Choose or create your own team and opponents.
2. Choose a past route, a random route, or include new destinations.
Travel
3. For air travel (optional gameplay, since Apskip's job isn't everyone's cup of tea), a map shows flights between any two cities. "Travel agents" can suggest routes, but they may not necessarily be the quickest.
4. Self-driving works Crazy Taxi style, and you can "buy" maps at stores/gas stations to help you.
5. Taxi rides (optional gameplay) can involve you setting a course for the driver, who otherwise will find his own way to your destination.
6. Public transport could work similarly to air travel, with locals pointing out possibilities on a system map.
Tasks
7. Tasks in each city/country are randomized. Each task runs as a mini-game, which you can play on its own.
Downloads & Add-Ons
8. Create and upload your own locations, tasks or teams; update your game with the latest routes and timetables, or download the tasks and locations from other fans. High replay value right there!

Neobie, Ludia should hire you as the official head graphic artist of the Amazing Race game! :wohoo: How nice are those pictures! Can't wait to see them in action - hopefully!
-
Three main problems with that:
too much info to program (unless you only want to save parts of the city relevant to the tasks)
might lose replay value once you have done everything
one-player TAR game idea kinda sucks, and I'm scared of it becoming an MMORPG, and also, it might be kinda difficult to find another 10 users to play with and I don't think we'd like to play against the CPU...
-
I love those screens, Neobie!
Every game gets boring eventually, cdfe. You can't possibly create a game that won't unless you achieve an infinite programming capacity.
I do agree about the CPU, though. They would probably program it so that CPU teams would be as good as they finished in the actual race, rather than how well they really did. So for example, Lena & Kristy or Mark & Bill would be programmed at the skill level of a standardized ninth place team. Not digging that idea, no matter how it is programmed, it will be biased, most likely in favor of teams like Margie & Luke, Mel & Mike, and Tammy & Victor, who the producers seem to have an unusual love for.

I have no worries about Ludia's graphics - the 3D models on their website look pretty good!
The problem is that they might take a lot out of the gameplay itself - TAR isn't as simple as serving customers in a restaurant. Hope they do the show good justice!
Oh? Because there's no show and I'm bored to bits: here's something to amuse Apskip.

If I has this game Neobie is showing suggestions of, I would play it whenever I could! I really doubt it could get this sophisticated though...still great job Neobie!
-
Could the TAR game be actually like MarioParty? I played it earlier and immediately I remembered that this type of game could actually be done in TAR...
-
This game will probably be the most tiring on Wii!

that's actually not a bad idea
but instead of having minigames after each turn, have the detour and roadblock as spaces on the board where the team must stop and complete a minigame task
the detour could have 2 different paths leading from it, one longer and one shorter, with the shorter one being a more difficult minigame
and if you don't complete the minigame you have to wait a turn to try again
and the flights could be turn credits/penalizations
such as you took the bucharest connection to frankfurt, you now must wait two turns before starting.
or there was a delay on your flight from paris to moscow, you must wait six turns before starting.
the last team to make it to the end of the gameboard would be eliminated

I heard someone at Sucks saying that the release date for this game is on 9/30/09... Could this be true?

For me it will depend on how good the game is. If it isn't fun, then I won't be excited.
But then again, to know whether it's fun, I would have to play it myself!

I just hope that it is better than the DVD board game.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for that expansion pack! (:;)
I hated how it only featured seasons 1, 2, 5, and 7. No surprise that they didn't feature 6, which seems to be the last one they use for anything (including All-Stars).

and that, ladies & gentlemen, is why home-made races are better than pre-fabricated games
