And there is 11 hours and 30 minutes before the show is aired here, so I just look at the play-by-play updates. That's what I get for living in the opposite side of the world, I guess. :-\

Phil: Six teams left Zanzibar for Poland. Tempers flared between Eric and Danielle. Joe/Bill and them missed flights out of Africa. Later came the Twist, INTERSECTION. U/J/D/O came in first. Charla struggled through the Detour and again at the Roadblock but for Joe and Bill it was the end of the road.
Five teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

U/J/D/O, 9:48 pm. Fly to the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Joyce: It's getting down to the wire. Teams are more desperate to stay in.
U/J go to the hotel to book flights.
D/O conf about their 13 years together.
Joyce asks the Concierge to help book tix. They will arrive 6:40 am.
So will Danny/Oswald.
Voice: But you only have 1 hour in Frankfurt.
Oswald: But will we have time to make the connection in Frankfurt?
Man: An 8:00 departure through another city, Paris, will arrive 7:25 am.
D/O choose the better connection with later arrival.
Uchenna: This is a Race for a million dollars. We'll have a short window in Frankfurt, so we'll have to hustle.
Missed D/K's departure time.
C/M, 3:16 am.
M conf: We depend on our own skills to get us through.
They head for an internet portal to make reservations.
E/D, 3:22 am.
Eric suggests going to an internet site.
At the internet place, Charlais sitting at a computer.
Eric: Mind if I get on?
Charla: No. We just got on.
In cab, Eric, imitating Charla's voice: We wonder why people don't like us?!

Eric to Dustin/Kandice: We have bad news. Charla/Mirna aren't nice.
D/K ask a ticket agent for assistance.

U/J arrive at the airport.
Joyce: We need to pick up our tickets.

Eric warns Joyce they have to have 45 minutes to make a connection for an international flight.
Joyce; I know.
U: It's gonna be tight, but it should work out.
Phil: Charla/Mirna fly through Warsaw/Vienna.
U/J second flight, through Frankfurt.
Other 3 teams through Paris.

Yeah, I forgot all about your salt mine.
But since The first group should have gotten to Auschwitz around 5pm (just after teh sunset), then the tasks of the fast forward and the travel to the town shouldn't have only ben a few hours. So it would have still been pm when the firstt wo teams checked in. Since the also have a pm for departure, means that at the least it was a 24 hour pit stop. Well have to check all the flight info to see if it could have been a 48 hour one.

Phil: Teams must travel by Train and Bus to Batu Caves. Teams have to figure it out, which bus/train, by talking to locals.
Charla/Mirna on the train with little trouble.
7:25 am, next plane arrives with 3 teams.
A bespectacled man at the airport gives Eric directions.
D/K find out the train leaves 3 minutes to Sentul.
D/K reflect that C/M and u/J had tight connections and might have been delayed.
C/M get directions stepping off the bus.
Up a huge, huge staircase.
C: They don't need stairmasters in this country!
CLUE: Travel by taxi to the Kampung Baru Mosque.
Phil: Search streets for the next clue.
YIELD - 2 opportunities during the Race.
Any team that's been forced to YIELD must wait until the sand runs out before they can continue.
Charla trundles back down the stairs.
C/M taxi and comment on how hot it is already in the morning.

Art: On foot 1/3 mile to duplicate 1 of 3 patterns onto a batik cloth. Careful applications of artistic skill required.
Cookiie: Find marked stall 1/2 mile on foot, search through 600 boxes of cookies for one with a black licorice center.
C/M love licoricie and cookies, so they'll head off in that direction.

But seriously I can understand Danielle taking it very much to heart, even if it is part of the game, nor based on the sounds of it do I mind Eric's comments (but will reserve final judgment until I watch it), becuase if you can be complaining and still quoting movies you can't be that mad.
But other teams, complaining about it. Its part of the game, if you don't wish to thats fine and if it isn't just a stradegy move (last year both Tyler 7 James and Rob & Kimberly planned to but decided they didn't want to do that, which is fine you of course can.
But in last weeks clips the BQ's said if they could get rid of a team (having nothing to do with personality) it would be eric & Danielle for being a strong physical team. So I have no problem with them yielding them.
Though of course, there will be a reconning.

My flight information was pretty faulty on Episode 9, sorry about that. My sources proved to be wrong. I have doublechecked and OS1, the nonstop from Vienna to Kuala Lumpur is not shown as flying on Saturday Dec. 9 although Charla and Mirna took it. Also, OS1 is no longer in existence since Austrian Airlines has apparently discontinued it.
The flights that Uchenna and Joyce took into Frankfurt apparently landed too close to noon, with the departure of nonstop Malaysian 005 at 1230 being the one that they missed. There are a variety of other opportunities that they could have taken to get to Kuala Lumpur, but a 1245 Lufthansa/Malaysian connection through Jeddah was the only one arriving the next morning and they were almost certainly too late to get it. Other possibilities were:
1300 to AUH on LH connecting to EY arriving 1310
1355 to HKG on CX connecting to CX arriving 1230
1440 to SGN on VN connecting to VN arriving 1320
1515 to DXB on EK connecting to IY arriving 1500
1625 to AMS on LH connecting to KL arriving 1440
Based on what we saw in the episode, my guess in that they did the last one.

Yeah, they were pretty sure about Charla & Mirna taking a cab, and they said it looked like Eric & Danielle as well.
Will be curious if any clips address this or if it will be a late penality added to the departure time (that happens some time).
I always wonder when they show it the next week is if its beccause they didn't catch it immediate during the leg, and it the figured it out during the Pit Stop time? Or if they figured it out when they arrived at the Pit Stop, but edited it out as unimportant and just add it to the start of the next leg.

It sure was! We also actually helped them get a taxi but we were pretty sure that wasn't shown cause the camera weren't on us at the time.

1. Episode 8 finished on the evening of Dec. 7 or just after midnight Dec. 8 for the last 4 teams.
2. Flights to Kuala Lumpur arriving on the morning of Dec. 10 haev to leave Europe around noon on Dec. 9.
3. To get to the gateway cities(for the nonstop longhaul flight to KUL) from Krakow, teams must depart in the 530am to 800am time frame on Dec. 9.
4. Work backward and you have a 24 hour pitstop and not any other possible multiple of 12 hours.

Just finished watching this leg, and I have to say its my 2cd favorite of the season.
No huge freakout. All the racers behaved fairly well. Surprisingly the worst behavior concerning locals was danny.
And as far as behavior for Eric & Danielle, nothing bad to each other was shown (well see if in clips), and as for being yielded, they were one of the most behaved teams shown waiting at a Yield. Certainly better then Mojo, Bama, Double D's, Weavers (twice).
Will have to recheck both yields in season 6 (one of which was fairly mean spirited) and the yield used in season 7 agains't Ron & Kelly.
Need to reread all of Izad's post to see if there was any hours of operations on teh detour, because if there wasn't Charla & Mirna ran a poor leg, losing 2 and a half hours.
They also should recieve a minimum of a 30 minute penality as they are clearly shown seeking, getting intoand exiting a cab.
Eric & Danielle are shown walking (in a shot with Cha Cha's) and we never see them in a cab, seeking a cab or getting out of a cab, though we do see a cab driving by near the cookie location.
It is of course possible that they already took the penality and that more then that seperated 2cd and 3rd place.

I just got finished watching the episode, and the firstt wo things I do, is get a basic timeline. And the first place I do that is with flights (which he already double checked before I even got to watch) and then plan out the nature of the Pit stop, which again, he done already (though I did figure with the time frame was most likely 24 and not 48, but still saved me from having ot double check).

From the couch, the BQ's (or any of the top 4 teams) using the Yield in this episode was dumb. Of course, none of them knew where U/J were.
I think this sets up having Eric/D yield the BQ's in the final leg.

Cookies: It is still not clear to me how many cookies had licorice in them. Was it one box of cookies (in 600) or 1 cookie, in one box (in 600)? This was the essence of the Danny/Oswald spat.

I heard it to be only 1 licorice cookie. 600 boxes of cookies. (so if 10 cookies per box.....munch on a possible 6000 cookies to find the licorice cookie). Oswald was correct in being skeptical & E/D were damn lucky that D found that cookie.
Reminded me of Colin eating that chocolate in Argentina. :lol:

hound 109, I'll wager that there were at least 5 licorice cookies among the 7200 since it was theoretically possible for each of the teams to elect that detour. There were at least 12 cookies per box and probable more than that (see Puddin's screenshots in POST #25 for visual). So that would be an average of 1440 cookies for each licorice one. peach : Mirna was actually nice in person.. maybe it's because I told her I was a fan while we were pushing the bicycle. But she was also not so nice for making us do a little celebration dance after we finished the task. Thank god that didn't make the final cut. It was nasty. LOL. And I just rewatched the episode again and.. wha-hey! I actually got a line sneaked in there!

mswood, much as I like them I'd have to agree that Charla/Mirna actually ran a rather poor leg. They lost their two hour lead on the cookies task! (there were no hours of operations for the task). And I know people are complaining about the time penalty, but I think the time between them reaching the pitstop and Eric/Danielle's was over an hour. But again, I can't tell that for sure.
I was surprised to see Danny buying the newspaper from the gas station (which was quite a distance away, and where we helped Charla/Mirna get their taxi). My guess is that all the newspapers in the nearby houses have already been collected by the other teams.

PEACH, I saw only one area where all the cookies were. Remember that the Chas came to it and noted that another team had been there prviously and left. There was ample room around the huge table for 4 teams to simultaneously be doing the task. There could not have been only one licorice cookie for the one table available to all.

The area with the cookies has multiple tables (I could count at least 6). Phil says "each team must choose a table and look thru 600 boxes of cookies for the one with the licorice center".
So each TABLE must have ONE cookie.
The Cha's actually went back there twice--they chose their table, started the task, left, went back at Danny's conviction that there would be a whole box of licorice cookies, and left again.
But no matter what, this was still the task that everything points to not doing--the purely luck based needle in the haystack that has been the downfall of so many racers in the past.

I think that you have that right. Program never told us anything about Uchenna and Joyce going through Munich and then Frankfurt. U/J this morning on TES said that their problem was that the printer broke down when it was printing the tickets but that they went on the frist leg (most likely Munich to Frankfurt) and then had trouble getting their boarding passes reprinted. Thus they missed their conncection. There was no trouble with anyone's tickets in Krakow, so the problem must have been in Munich. Or they missed their connection somewhere else down the line. Sunset was at 7:07 in Kuala Lumpur and we saw them arriving in the dark, so it must have been later than 4:30.
I wonder why the other travel agents and clerks could not make the same early connections through Warsaw and Vienna as C/M?
And the voice over by Phil describing the Detour Cookie task clearly states that each team should pick a table. So there must have been five tables there, one for each team. Reminds me of the Roadblock task that Charla had to do in Argentina: find the white chocolate candy! Haven't they learned yet to stay away from food challenges?
Is the equal rule still in effect for Roadblocks? Phil hasn't said anything about that this show. Or has he?

The editing sure made it look like U/J went directly to Philimination, but in this interview with BuddyTV (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-amazing-race/exclusive-interview-uchenna-an-5641.aspx), they say they actually did all the tasks! Sure wish TPTB had given us some inkling of that!
There’s a lot of editing that goes on in this show, obviously. Was there anything that you wish they had shown from this season that they didn’t?
Uchenna: Well, our time going out, last night…we were surprised at how little they showed of the struggles we went through. And we did do all the tasks, they didn’t show it, but we did do all the tasks, the road blocks and the detour. I think that would have been a little more interesting to show, really, that we kept fighting all the way to the end, we didn’t just get a letter to show up at the mat. I mean, we went from being an hour ahead, missing that flight, because of a broken ticket printer to being 10-hours behind and I think there’s a lot more drama that goes with that than what was showed.

I actually told her "I'm a fan!" at Batu Caves and she told me to "tell it to the camera!" but of course, I didn't. LOL. Then while we were pushing the pushcart, I told her again that, "we are fans of yours"... and I told Charla (who was waiting) "you guys are doing great, btw". (and I wonder if she was referring to us when she said that she's got fans here in Malaysia in her confessional - which was recorded at the pitstop). But I don't know if they'll remember me at all though. It would be ubercool if they did.
And even though the others were not my favorite teams, I also shouted "Good Luck guys" to all the other three teams while they were running down the stairs at Batu Caves , but they probably didn't hear me.

Izad--can you shed any more light on this whole discussion about Romeo hearing that this was meant to be a NEL? I am having a lot of trouble thinking that this could possibly happen, since I've always had complete faith that this could never happen!

This still was taken before Danny and Oswald arrived at the batik detour in the show. Yet we see Oswald in the background. Obviously, the editors spliced in the footage from a later time.
