Anyway, it's Wiki ....
The casting of Miss Universe makes me fear more Mactors in this edition.
Mrs Shrek sent me this ........
Then I was searching Flickr and saw this ......(Taken on May 20, 2008 at 12.49pm PDT)
The Flickr picture (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ponyboy101/2513805298/) and blog dates are a match but gosh it can't be us!
So a fwiw ...
I don't know where to put this. It can't be "our race" because the dates are wrong, and Bangkok was just a transit point. Could TAR Asia have started filming yet?
"I saw the Amazing race being filmed, people eating bugs and throwing them up in the middle of the street"

Strange indeed...dates cannot be TAR 13 but I suppose any local crews hired could have similar equiptment.
Is it possible that TARA 3 has started already? I wasn't thinking til June but oh my...
Just found another TAR reference in a blog that is so vague I probably wouldn't have bothered posting it except for the recent sighting in Bangkok...fwiwQuoteFriday, May 23, 2008 We finally arrived in UB(Ulaan Bator) after passing the amazing race in Beijing.Link (http://lotusfansg.blogspot.com/2008/05/finally-arrived-ulaan-bator.html)
I can see the first leg of AmazingRaceAsia (ARA) 3 being in Bangkok May 21, although it may have been preceded by other places if there are prio legs. Beijing being next is quite logical. Ther are 4 nonstop flights BKK PEK:
TG614 1040 1620
MS960 1300 1830
TG674 0035 0615
AC980 0120 0645

The problem north is that there are so many local versions of the Amazing Race that searching blogs you really have to sort out what is the real race what is the local race.
Over the past week there have been more so than usual...I wouldn't even know where to begin, lol
I managed to get a couple pictures until they told me not to. I cant remember the exact day but around the 20th or 21st I'd say. I saw them eating scorpions and some other sort of bug and puking them up. There were 2 asian teams I think. Also one girl threw up and another contestant said "Miss India Everyone!" I heard them reading a clue and it was in English. There was a father and son I believe who looked east indian. Everyone I heard talk sounded like they had American accents.
ask me anymore questions i'll try to help. expect the pictures in a few days
Just heard from Mrs Shrek's blogger who was kind enough to tell us this: :hearts:
What else would we like to know? ???
Okay...She saw TARA filming...
But her OWN regional event she worked on also involved HK and Thai teams? This is confusing...
Or is her regional event actually TARA? :iok
But a nice find either way. puddin! :sucks
Thanks to Andrew who will hopefully be joining us here soon himself!! :hearts:
I'm reading it a little differently:
--we KNOW that the eating task was being prepared on Khao San Road, Bangkok on MAY 20 by 2 separate photos dated
--Andrew tells us that his photo of the task in progress was May 20 or 21st, so let's assume May 20 (goes w/ task being set up then)
--woman arrives in Vietnam on May 19
--managed to get to the Q-bar every other night she was there
--the 2nd night she was there, she saw the race
--suppose 1st night she went was May 20, then 2nd night she was there could be May 22
--clearly these dates are subject to error and could be May 21 or May 23 equally as likely ...
--her event involved teams of some sort, but not necessarily a local TAR event
So I think Bangkok for sure on May 20, and then Saigon, Vietnam May 21-23 ish
So are these our first 2 legs? Or did we miss one? ???
Because we also have the blog report for "crossing the Amazing race" in Beijing... and the only 2 days that poster was stuck in the Beijing airport were May 19 and 20th.
So I am wondering if we have
Beijing airport sighting May 19 or 20>> heading to Bangkok
Bangkok May 20-21
Saigon May 21-23 ish
Was Beijing the site of the first leg? Nice Olympic tie-in perhaps...
4. Given the laws of physics and tranportation, teams cannot be in both Beijing and Bangkok at Phrao San Road on the same afternoon of May 20. Which do you want to believe?
(Yes, we are still leaving to Mongolia on 19th May, 0110hrs)but were not able to catch their flight. They spent the night at an airport hotel in prep for an 8AM flight (which was delayed till 7PM). If they were there 2 hours beforehand, their sighting could have been from 6AM onwards.
I read somewhere that Marc's [Marc & Rovilson] co-host in a sports show, Diane, auditioned with her sister Jackie [All 3 in the pic above]. Well, Diane and Jackie are entertaining to me. Jackie is like bipolar and funny especially when she tries extreme sports. Okay. That's all. I'm not really sure.(http://i31.[banned image hosting site].com/2l8eph2.jpg)
So now we have something like this?

HEY~ :jumpy: This is my first post,I'm Kayne from Hong Kong.
I just saw a post in a China forum - Ragbear and it maybe a spoiler of TARA3
http://ragbear.com/read.php?tid=22007
Here is what the macro view of ARA3 looks like:
before May 19 unknown if it exists at all; might possibly be Colombo Sri Lanka
May19/20 Peking
May 20/21 Bangkok
May 22/23 Chiang Mai
May 25/26 could be Saigon(I think so)
May 27/28 ToBeDetermined
May 29 Hong Kong
Let's assume May 25 is Saigon. The next logical stop could be:
Macau(used in AR11)
Guangzhou
Wuzhou(a beautiful place if memory serves me) or even the famous Yangshuo or Guilin
Nanning
Hanoi
Ha Long Bay(another extremely beautiful place used in AR10)
Hainan (the famous Chinese island of decadence and luxury)
After Hong Kong, I see Taiwan quite close, but I think Luzon island of the Philippines (capital Manila is on it) is more logical. After all, there is a fantical fan base for Amazing Race Asia in the Philippines.

The sighting could fit into apskip's timeline "May 27/28 ToBeDetermined" ..I wonder if they will ever leave Asia or when?
Wondering why I put a question mark after studying? Oh well, I went studying with my classmates at the airport yesterday and we did not really study at all did we? At first they set the time to meet at 11.30am but later changed it to 2.00pm then to 2.30pm, lastly I reached there at 3.30pm. Then we studied in the T2 mac, the table was really very small and amanda was cursing the group behind us, they were taking one big table to play cards when the table could be useful to us. But we got another table so it was still ok, I was so tempted with the food and went to eat instead. Phoebe had a cough but was very tempted for mcspicy, I told her just eat because no one could withstand the greatness of mcspicy, but the typical mother devien was nagging all the way to tell phoebe not to eat and say that I am a bad influence to phoebe. In the end, phoebe went to get mcspicy meal with a mcflury.
We wanted to study after that but all of them just take out their laptops and starting surfing the net. It was like 6pm already and we did not do anything. Later, the manager came to chase us off because there was not enough seats for the customers. So we went to the viewing mall to study instead. When we reached there we saw celebrities!!! We saw allan wu and his wife and childen. Phoebe was admiring them and called them the perfect family. Quite true, the father was playing with the kids while the mother was sitting down laughing at them.
I thought I read TAR3 started on May 18th? but where I read it I have no idea, lol
I thought I read TAR3 started on May 18th? but where I read it I have no idea, lol
There have been a few pics posted on the net of 'Allan look alikes', but the wife and kids being there makes a mixup perhaps less likely...
I was pretty sure it had been rumoured that filming started around 18-20th too, and if that was true it couldn't be possible to be completed with filming yet....just speculation but a last goodbye with his family at the airport before the 'out of Asia' segment starts seems more likely atm than the other possibilities.... can anyone identify the airport they are at?
Kogs, I would like to know more about how you know that it was a 17 hour train ride to Hue.
Hue is an ancient provincial capital that was the site of some of the bloodiest battles in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive in 1968. During the Battle of Hue, the city suffered considerable damage not only to its physical features, but its reputation as well, most of it from American firepower and bombings on the historical buildings as well as the now infamous massacre at Huế committed by the Communist forces.
Hue is 55% of the northbound distance between Ho Chi Minh City(aka Saigon) and Hanoi. it has a population of 340,000 people.
I thought I read TAR3 started on May 18th? but where I read it I have no idea, lol
The adventures started at the airport in Chiang Mai when three sets of couples ran past us, each trailed by a camera guy and an audio guy. We are pretty sure that they were part of the show The Amazing Race but when we asked them all one guy could say was "I don't know what you're talking about." Yeah, right. That is classic Amazing Race crew behavior. Why would a local race be evasive?
It definitely did not start sooner, and I have no idea where Sri Lanka came from. :res:From password , you know the member who thought Georgia was a leg of TAR13 because of seeing "georgiapeach" in the timeline thread :funny:
Re: Chiang Mai Amazing Race
Hey Peach,
Well I'm definitely a little surprised that you some how found my one reference
to the amazing race in my blog. I'd love to know how you found it?
so the details that I have:
-There were three couples. one was two shorter women. they had black backpacks
on and on the packs were yellow stickers that had an army slogan (i.e. "you can
do it"). I remember them as wearing all black as well. They were rather short
5'5"or less and while I don't want to sound prejudicial my two friends that I
was traveling with (who are both gay) totally thought these two women were too.
i actually never saw their faces. i will fwd to my friends and see if they have
any info. the second couple i think was two younger (20s/30s)guys...will have
to double check. the third was definitely a guy and a girl (prob. dating).
they were both white. she had longer brown/black hair and was really skinny and
wearing a little tank top. he had a british accent b/c he's the one that said
"" i don't know what you're talking about" THey looked to be in their early
30s.
-We were at the Chiang Mai airport on May 22. Our flight was scheduled to land
around 2pm so I think that's roughly the time. Our bags were the first off the
carousel.
-We were the only flight in baggage claim at the time and I really really don't
think they were on our plane (it wasn't very full and I hope I would have
noticed them). They ran past us as we were waiting for our taxi to pull up at
the curb outside of baggage claim (they were running from right to left as you
have your back to the terminal...woah that's a lot of detail). Oddly the third
couple (guy/girl) were pushing their gear on a trolley and she was definitely
looking for something whereas the other two couples were just running by. I
also distinctly remember that they came from further down the curbside and not
from in the terminal...may help with the coming vs going issue. All three ran
past us to the end of the terminal. I was actually confused about whether they
were coming or going. i think I would eliminate coming but whether they were
going or passing through i can't tell you. the trolley thing threw me off.
I'll pass along anything else as it comes to me. Sorry no pics.
happy tracking!
An army sticker? No mention of camera crews following them and no Asians? I dunno it doesn't sound very TARA to me.
Northern Thailand has been one adventure after another and is certainly the highlight of my time in Asia.

Regarding the Chiang Mai Adventure race featured in our news: no the competitors were not filmed, other than from a local camera crew who used footage from the start and interviews with competitors for a 10 minute new documentary for Capital TV, but it wasn't an 'on the fly' thing like the Amazing Race, since most the time they were in the jungle. It was a proper 'multi-discipline' triathlon type event, organised by Active Asia .
As a matter of interest the Amazing Race Asia did pass through Chiang Mai recently, it's yet to be aired and no one locally knew about it at the time except the owner of the X-Centre where part of it took place.
Hope this helps
Andrew
Thanks Slowhatch for finding that!

Wait they have 2 do that!!! wow... :duno:
alright the pic of the airport is definitely where we were...we were under that part that juts out (the covered drive way).
we were on a domestic flight from bangkok. Thai Airways Flight 110. I'm 99% sure they weren't on it though,
Looking at the airport diagram i'd say that yeah they definitely could have come from the international arrival area. that would make the most sense actually. we didn't notice the first two couples until they were basically right next to us but the third definitely came from further down the drive through area (beyond (i.e. further into the pic) the covered walkway in the airport pic).
i have to say that i really don't think that picture of the people in bangkok contains any of the three couples we saw. the two guys and the guy/girl were very white i.e. not asian at all. also the two girls in that pic were not the two we saw for certain.
couple 3 was definitely with the race. one camera guy an one guy with a microphone. otherwise we wldn't have thought twice about them.
happy to help
meg
working on it but may not be ready tonight :duno:
Based on what I know and identifying speculation as such, here is what I have for the update ARA3 Timeline:

Teams could have flown the Saigon to Hue leg, but reports were that they did not. Vietnam Airlines has 100 minute nonstops between SGN HUI at 0730, 1130 and 1630.
Working on finding out something here--back to y'all soon!Knowing peach "back soon" means, ummm an hour? :neener:
It would make much more sense planning wise if Bangkok and Chiang Mai came together, right? We all know how AXN loves to do double-leg country runs...Makes the most sense to me Neobie :hearts:

"When asked who else he would race with if he could do it all again, it doesn't take long for him to answer. "I'd probably go with Ernie Lopez (The Amazing Race Asia Season 1 contestant), because I've raced with him before and I had the best time racing with Ernie. We've done adventure races together. I just have so much fun with him. We have the same mentality. And also probably Geoff Rodriguez, he's another one of my best mates. He auditioned for Season 3. He's just like us: he's a carbon copy of Marc basically, well as far as the humor is concerned.Source: http://beta.abs-cbn.com/tabid/104/Article/9635/Default.aspx
Lastly, it would basically be a Malaysian girl, only because, if you look at the history, the Malaysian teams in season 1, they won and here in season 2 they took 2nd and 4th place. Malaysian women are tough. They're fantastic and they're nice to look at," he says with a wink."
"We also hear you're quite the reality TV show junkie.Source: http://www.koleksyon.com/showbiz/features/artist/tisha_silang.asp
Yes! Thursday nights are bad coz there's American Idol, Outback Jack, Growing Up Gottie, and so I'm switching channels the whole way! I've also watched The Bachelor, even Fame! The Amazing Race is also one of my favorites. I actually did research on the show because I have a friend, and we would have been a perfect match for the show. But then it's only open to American citizens, so, aww. "
"You think if you joined The Amazing Race, the camera's gonna get a shot of a bitchy streak?
Definitely, I'm such a competitive person, if I say I wanna do one and my partner doesn't agree, we'd end up on each other's throat! Plus I don't know how I'd be, having to get up that early and lug all my stuff around on my back! I mea, as it is, I tend to miss a lot of fights already, ha ha! I would be entertaining for people to watch that way! "
Hi,
Saw your message on my blog. Don't know how much I can tell you though because all we saw were a couple of teams running in and out of the bar we were yet and in and out of the hotel across the street......Apparently someone asked the film crew what they were shooting for and they replied that it was for a bollywood movie! Maybe they were just kidding because we saw the red and yellow flag/sticker on one of the team's backpacks.
Cheers.
Oh, yes, Puddin.Did you ask the date of the sighting JonLover?
I actually made follow up questions. Hope she'll answer
If you have other things to ask, you can send it to my PM or my e-mail and try to get an answer from her. She's nice.
The poster said he saw two beautiful girls(or women) on the street and finding taxi today(29-5-08 HKT),he also saw a flag of amazing race(which is in yellow & red), at first,he saw them opening a clue, then jumping up to the taxi, TAR13 have already finished shooting,so it's probably TARA3!!!
Additional information (District) - Mong Kok (One of the most popular downtown area in HK),
Hope you are enjoying TARA2 on AXN and of course keep an eye out for The Amazing Race (USA), it promises to be another great series (the production team on the USA show are really excited about the new series).
Thanks cabio :waves:. So it started sooner than we had thought? I'm confused :D
Thanks cabio :hearts: .. I only hope they went to more exciting places than we have so far, like peach said :lol:Thanks cabio :waves:. So it started sooner than we had thought? I'm confused :D
No, I don't think so. From my source, they raced faster in 3 weeks compare to TARA2 - 1 month.

Bonjour!
I am still clueless about TARA even after reading some webpages.
It was 25 May. It was about late 2pm to 3pm. I remember I was starving then.
I saw Allan Wu and his crew in the imperial palace. After I left the imperial palace, right outside the gate, I saw a Caucasian pair, (they are quite big) running towards the imperial palace.
Following behind them were two ladies, they are quite big, carrying their backpacks. I was carrying a bottle of water, and she asked if that was hers.
The third team I saw (I think, I can't remember with the time lapse) was cycling/riding a cyclo (a traditional mode of transportation in Vietnam). They had to ride the cyclo to the destination I think. I saw them hold a TARA slip, possibly the clue. These teams were quite close to each other.
Then as I was walking across the Perfume River, I saw another team. I was quite tickled so I stopped to take a picture. That's the only picture I took. It was actually the guy cycling/riding the cyclo, but he stopped where I was to change with the girl. That's the team who asked me for direction. I pointed them to the flag of the Citadel (which was the general direction they were headed for). There was a cyclo driver/rider behind them. He looked at me and we laughed together, tickled by the fact that 'tourists' were riding the cyclo. This team is quite a distance from the rest. Say, about 1km or so.
It's quite easy to spot the teams. There's always a slow-moving jeep/4WD following and filming behind them.
As I was walking away from their destination, I saw another jeep/4WD. But I didn't see any participants with them.
I've attached the photo I took. Hope it's of some interest.
Shirley
If I'm reading the Hue bloggers dates right she may have seen the teams on the 25th? as she had some time to kill before her bus departed.
On the 24th says shes going to try to get a ticket to her Auntsin Hanoi tomorrow (the 25th)
On June 1st she writes that she is at the Aunts
then After the first day on the tour with Café on Thu Wheel, I decided I wanted to get to Hanoi
quickly. 24th and 25th
I had wanted to take the first train the next morning to get to Hanoi 25th
There was no ticket left for any of the trains the next day, so I settled for a bus ticket 25th?
I went to the Citadel that afternoon since I have time. Went into the Imperial City 25th?
It was so-so, perhaps because I have no guide, perhaps I should have studied harder when we were studying Chinese influence in Vietnam then, anyhow, I saw Allan Wu. Then I realized that they were filming a leg of the Amazing Race Asia there. Haha. I walked past him nonchalantly. . 25th?
Is this a Celebrity edition?

The first pair I saw, I vaguely remember a bald/clean-shaven Caucasian man. I can't remember his companion.
Though I can't remember much of the first team,
The second pair I saw was 2 ladies. One of them has curly short hair
The slip, if I don't remember wrongly is yellow.
the third team or rather the team I saw with the slip and riding the cyclo was made up of two women. I don't remember seeing many Asians that day, possibly the 2nd team of 2 women carrying their backpacks, had an Asian. I remember the lady asking me for water is quite big-sized, I am not quite sure of her companion right now.
The first three teams I saw was rather close to each other. The first and second teams were on foot already when I saw them, possibly about 200-300m away only. The one that I saw third on the cyclo was further away. Possibly 500m away from the second. And:
The team that asked me for direction, the lady in the team asked, "do you know where is the imperial palace?" The imperial palace is just across a small road from the citadel where there is a Vietnam flag. So I pointed to the flag and told them to head that way.
Allan Wu was talking to some of his crew while others were setting up the equipment. They had lotsa packed food there. And they travelled in pretty nice vehicles for a country like Vietnam. Can't remember the make of the cars but they looked pretty big.
There was no mat there when I was there. It could be because they were still setting up. But I didn't see anything that looked like it's a mat.
No, I didn't see any pit stop mat, or any mats on the floor for that matter.
I am sorry I can't quite recognize any of the people in the picture.
The one in the yellow box could be the 2nd team I saw. I cannot confirm, so sorry about that.
okay, apskip.
Peach, i don't think so. :hearts:
My buddy from the other site experimented on the picture. I don't know if this helps us.

Perhaps JonLover knows which photo this might be?? :duno:

An exciting start to an eventful vacation.
On our way to Chennai, my brother and I bumped into a team from the next season of the Amazing Race at the Singapore airport.
Possible spoilers from the next Amazing Race Season ahead.
(Hereafter, "we" refers to me and my elder brother.)
We first noticed them after boarding the same Hong Kong - Singapore flight. Seeing their backpacks and the two cameramen behind, our immediate guess was that they were part of the Amazing Race. However, I didn't get a good look at them when they zipped past my seat and also, I was pretty tired then, so I spent all the time aboard sleeping rather than trying to find out if the guess was right. My brother usually acts as if such things are no big deal, so he didn't snoop around either.
After getting off at the Singapore airport, we were still discussing the possibility while standing in line for our next boarding pass at the Air India counter when they came and stood behind us. We immediately asked them THE question (if they were part of the Amazing Race) and lady said "We don't know what you are talking about."
It wasn't rocket science to figure out the instructions they had - that is to not say anything about the show. We spent few minutes with them and gathered quite a bit of information. The two contestants were representing Philippines, their next destination was Cochin, India (we even got a peek at the blue note with the globe symbol). Since no other team was around, and I think they mentioned a 2 hour lead over another (with some Simon?), my guess is that they were among the final few contestants.
Below is the picture I took with the team in the background (they couldn't pose - they aren't allowed to!). Notice the yellow-red flag and the backpacks with the number 9.
Mrs. Shrek, the simple answer is no, that photo does not fit the timeline. ARA3 started on or before April 18 and was over by no later than May 15 and probably seversal days earlier.

I thought TARA started filming mid may, about the same time TAR13 finished filming :duno: Am I confused?

What do you all think of this?

HEY~ :jumpy: This is my first post,I'm Kayne from Hong Kong.
I just saw a post in a China forum - Ragbear and it maybe a spoiler of TARA3
http://ragbear.com/read.php?tid=22007
The poster said he saw two beautiful girls(or women) on the street and finding taxi today(29-5-08 HKT),he also saw a flag of amazing race(which is in yellow & red), at first,he saw them opening a clue, then jumping up to the taxi, TAR13 have already finished shooting,so it's probably TARA3!!!
Additional information (District) - Mong Kok (One of the most popular downtown area in HK), i don't think that it is only taking a clue then go to another country(just like season2), so i felt really excited :yess:
Hong Kong is looking good heres another blog (http://ting-solace.blogspot.com/2008/05/stanley-market.html)~

Hongkong day 1 (18 May)
< blahblah >
anyway..we were supposed to meet kc and kw in the airport like 5.30am when our flight is lik 7.45am. the two bobos wanted to jalan in terminal 3. in the end..me and the bf ate at terminal 3’s burger king cuz we were too hungry. bf refused to take photo with me again and again and again. look at the subsequent pictures and you can see either his closed eyes face or his monster face.
we were on the same plane as Allan Wu! gosh..he’s handsome and muscular..
< blahblah >
The prior post states that ARA3 teams go from HongKong to Cochin India via Singapore. There are more direct ways of getting to Cochin(now known as Kochi after the non-British naming convention was restored in India). Those include HKG BLR and BLR COK connecting in Bangalore and HKG BOM and BOM COK connecting in Mumbai. However, in spite of being a longer route the shorter layover makes this connection through Singapore the preferred one:
SQ863 HKG SIN 1330 1710 connecting with SQ5368 2020 2210
That would have given Allan Wu less than 3 hours in Singapore airport with his family.
Mrs. Shrek, I apparently am not reading the same information that you are. Hong Kong was a leg around May 28/29 in TARA3, not 10 days earlier. The sighting of Allan Wu at Singapore Airport was after that.
I do think it is more likely that he was on the way to the race start in Beijing than having a second leg of any sort in HK.I agree after reviewing the data again
But speaking of HK....we need to take a look at Macao, don't you think??I have looked at Macao and come up with a big fat blank so far, but will keep hunting :spy:
Hi Jon,
Sorry have been busy at work and havent checked my gmail.... let me try and answer as much as I can ... pls see replies below.... i'm sorry i couldnt have been more of a help....
1. We are confused on the time and date you saw them in Vietnam. Can you tell us when was it?
We saw them on Wed, 21 May. Cant remember exact time but should have been around 10 - 11 pm
2. What is the name of the bar again where you were positioned that night? What is the name of the hotel you saw them coming in and out?
We were at Q bar which is across the road from Caravelle Hotel. Not sure whats the name of the street, but its near the Opera house i think. In fact, Q bar is at the Opera house, if im not wrong.
3. Do you think they were doing a task or a challenge? Are they carrying or transporting something?
I think they were looking for a checkpoint/clue? No, they didnt seem to be carrying anything... they were just rounding around as if they were looking for something...
4. How many couple you've seen? I know I am asking too much but can you describe each couple including what they were wearing that time?
I think we saw abt 3 - 4 couples... cant remember exact number....
*****Chami reconfirmed that she saw cameramen and audio men running with the racers
5. Can you please try to identify if you have seen some of these couples?? (I attached a picture by Andrew. That picture they were seen eating bugs)
Im sorry... it was really quite dark and we didnt get a good look at the couples.... but i think one couple was dark-skinned... looked like Indians ... but we could have been wrong. But i remember someone saying that they overheard someone else asking them what they were filming and the crew said it was some bollywood thing ... but they could have been lying to throw everyone off course ... not very sure....
*******Chami, took some pictures but all turned out black. Unfortunately, she deleted it in her digicam.
Where did I read that the sighting of Geoff and Tisha at Singapore Airport enroute to India was on 01 June 2008?
We have a picture suggesting teams checked in the evening of 29 May 2008 at Blake Pier.
Then, on the following day, they were in Macau?
And the Indian blogger who saw Tisha and Geoff told us that they were in Singapore Airport from Hong Kong on 01 June 2008.

Regarding, Peach's post about Baguio as a possible starting point, it's not true as per my friends who are living there. I asked my friends to ask people working at Manor Hotel if there was really a shooting of TAR there. They denied it.
hey, i studied there for 2 years so I can say the place is wonderful. Peach you would really love it.
The dates are getting confusing. :'(
The current info I posted was obtained from my boarding ticket which said Jun 1. So it is highly likely that it is correct. May be I heard wrong and it wasn’t 3 hours at all (although I am pretty sure it was).
I don’t have my itinerary with me anymore so I cannot confirm for sure. So it is possible that it was indeed the 31st of May! But again Air India could be showing some wrong data.
Btw, I think the camera timings are a bit off (they get the date correct though – I think). In fact, I am not even sure if the time is accurate for any timezone. So I wouldn’t give that too much weightage.
Shall let you know if I get anything more.
Best,
--Aravind.
I wrote to Aravind about his blog shortly after that, and he has just returned from vacation and has very kindly has answered all of my (and others) questions about time and date and flight info in a new BLOG UPDATE (http://ranganablog.blogspot.com/2008/07/amazing-race-asia-3.html).
Now moving on back to Saigon:The dates are getting confusing. :'(
I agree!
Here's where we will have to a little changing around in our speculated times, but it is very nice to get confirmation of the dates!
I must admit though that I don't understand why they would do a leg in Saigon and then go to Chiang Mai and then return to Hue? That seems a little funny routing to me. I wonder if Saigon will actually turn out to be our race after all? But in any case, here's how I see that possibly working....
Leg 1: starts in Beijing on May 19 with teams spotted leaving Beijing at the airport on May 20; on their way to:
Leg 2: teams arrive in Bangkok on May 20 and are seen eating bugs in Khao San Road, pitstop night of 5/20 to departure 5/21(cannot rule out an extended pitstop here until 5/22)
Leg 3?:unknown locationbecomes Saigon 5/21-5/22vs extended pitstop in Bangkok until 5/22
Leg ?: Chiang Mai 5/22-5/23 tasks to include something extreme add a possible extended Pitstop here?Leg?: Saigon 5/23 to 5/24 (possible +1 due to travel or extended pitstop)
Leg ?: Hue 5/24 to 5/25 or 5/25 to 5/26
Leg?: unknown 5/26-27 (possibly Taiwan here??)
Leg?: Hong Kong 5/28 to 5/29 (Pitstop 5/29 PM) with departure 5/30 to Macau.
Leg?: Macau 5/30 to AM 5/31 ? extended pitstop
Leg?: departure Macau to Cochin, India via Singapore AM5/31change to 6/1
So I do think on paper this can work but others will need to say if the airline routing is possible to confirm this. I just find the routing to be strange.
If we dump Saigon and {insert somewhere else of your choice}, does the route get any better?
Apskip, again, please remember that our "sighting" in Saigon is for MAY 21, not the 24-35. There is no evidence for Saigon at any other time, and the sighting on May 21 may or may not be our race. Perhaps you could reconsider those dates?
If there is an extended pitstop in Chiang Mai, then the dates in Hue fit perfectly without Saigon on the 24-25.
And also again, there is no evidence for Hanoi other than geographic proximity--no sightings, no photos, no clues, no blogs...

Peach, I interpret the information from the Q bar sighting totally differently from you and I have stated so in this thread previously.
To me the Saigon sighting in the time frame of May 23 or 24 is what was indicated, so I have no problem sticking with Saigon in my timeline until there is adequate information to change that. There is no adequate information that I have heard, so we will just have to diagree on that.
Amazing Race Asia3 hasn't got 4 days to take between arrival in Chiang Mai and arrival in Hue for only one pitstop/leg.
I don't know anything about a May 21 Chiang Mai sighting? My links are not broken as far as I can tell. Gosh I now wish we had started a timeline speculation thread for TARA3. :carryon:

Chiang Mai is for sure and one challenge was at an X-centre!
I wrote to the reporter who wrote the excellent summary of the Chiang Mai Adventure Challenge that we read about HERE (http://exploringsoutheastasia.com/articles/709-chiang-mai-adventure-race-a-success). I wanted to sort out the question of whether or not that race had any filming done. Just received a response from him (thank you Andrew!!) :QuoteRegarding the Chiang Mai Adventure race featured in our news: no the competitors were not filmed, other than from a local camera crew who used footage from the start and interviews with competitors for a 10 minute new documentary for Capital TV, but it wasn't an 'on the fly' thing like the Amazing Race, since most the time they were in the jungle.
Andrew
I'm of course hoping for more information...
But aside from that race being on 5/18 and our racers being spotted on 5/22, if the first race wasn't filmed then it rules that out as a case of mistaken identity anyway...

so the details that I have:
Just when you think there are no more spoilers :sucks
May 25, 2008 (data:DateTime : 2008:05:25 15:53:22 )
The adventures started at the airport in Chiang Mai when three sets of couples ran past us, each trailed by a camera guy and an audio guy. We are pretty sure that they were part of the show The Amazing Race but when we asked them all one guy could say was "I don't know what you're talking about." Yeah, right.
-There were three couples. one was two shorter women. they had black backpacks on and on the packs were yellow stickers that had an army slogan (i.e. "you can do it"). I remember them as wearing all black as well. I am nearly positive that the teams we saw were the Geoff and Tisha (the "i don't know what you're talking about" guy) & A.D. and Fuzzie (the black backpacks...see above). The two guys don't immediately fit any of the couples in these pics. I really thought one of them was caucasian. Maybe Niroo and Kapil??
The first pair I saw, I vaguely remember a bald/clean-shaven Caucasian man. I can't remember his companion. She was not able to confirm Geoff or any of the other males as the bald Caucasian due to distance...
The second pair I saw was 2 ladies. One of them has curly short hair.Yellow box photo was AD, and she now confirms AD/Fuzzie as this team! :hearts:
And: possibly the 2nd team of 2 women carrying their backpacks, had an Asian. I remember the lady asking me for water is quite big-sized, I am not quite sure of her companion right now. The one in the yellow box could be the 2nd team I saw.
the third team or rather the team I saw with the slip and riding the cyclo was made up of two women
And the start line is not the same as this place, is it?
So we still need to find that....
:jumpy: :hearts: :jumpy:

I just want to add that Niroo and Kapil are also in this photo. Niroo is the one with the red bandana (not Fuzzie as speculated by most). Fuzzie is actually hidden. She's at the side of Niroo. You can only see her orange shirt with black prints. The one wearing the orange showing his back to us is Kapil, the father of Niroo.
2 legs in Chiang Mai? that makes sense fo HCMC as the 3rd leg now, thanks banzaiI take that back, peach will explain, 1 leg in Thailand ..I'll let her tell what she knows :)
If only we can confirm those orange-roofed buildings behind...This (http://www.flickr.com/photos/80179083@N00/2542054967/) should do. :wine:
There is stiff competition among bus companies for the Bangkok to Chiang Mai bus route and buses leave hourly. Buses from Chiang Mai to Bangkok leave hourly from the Arcade Bus terminal, east of the city, between 6:30 and 21:00.
Buses from Bangkok to Chiang Mai depart at least every hour between 05:30 and 22:00 from Mo Chit Station and take roughly 10 hours. We recommend VIP buses (fare 400 - 600 baht), offered by either the government or private companies. These can also be arranged from travel agents on Khao San Road, with a pick up there, and at other points
Y'all are confusing me here  Here is the way I see it...
I think we may have to call this one extended leg--I am not sure we have time for two pitstops in Thailand?
Would anyone be able to dig up photos of the Chiang Mai Provincial Juvenile Court or the Chiang Mai District Court?

The extended shelter looks like a bus bay to me, and the round roofing at the corner fits that of the Chiang Mai Arcade bus station. If only we can confirm those orange-roofed buildings behind... (They're under construction in Google Maps.)
Can we group the teams into arrival/bus groups?

Cai Be, one of the many well-known floating markets in the western region of southern Vietnam was formed in the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. The Cai Be Floating Market is always busy, bearing all the characteristics of the locals’ life in the western region.
All the goods are transported to the market by rafts and boats. The floating market lies in the Tien River, adjacent to three provinces of Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre.
The market is divided into two parts: buying and selling places. Rafts and boats are anchored along the two sides of the river for kilometres. From the floating market, goods are shifted for selling at inland markets or small boats take them for delivery along canals in the Plain of Reeds.
From three 3am in the early morning, rafts and boats are crowded because Cai Be is one of the biggest wholesale markets in the region. Traders live on the river and some link their lives with boats like their mobile house for generations. Cai Be seems to be an inseparable part of their daily lives.
On each boat, goods are hung on poles that are called dialectically “cay beo”. Hundreds of such poles point the sky wards. Boats also operate like “taxis,” very convenient for tourists around the region.
In case you were wondering, 'Ho Chi Minh City' is the name of the whole conurbation - 'Saigon' is still the name of the city itself, and it is 'Saigon' which appears in the railway timetables and on the station name boards...http://www.bienngoccruise.com/Train.asp
Train S3 from Hanoi to Saigon passes through the lush green hills between Hue and Danang. This is the most scenic section of line, running along the coast past bays and islands and through the hills. The train travels at low speed up the fierce gradients, with an assisting locomotive at the rear and people sitting on the roof..!
The best and fastest train in Vietnam is train E1 (Southbound) / E2 (Northbound) introduced in 2002. This train uses the most modern rolling stock, with large picture windows unobstructed by the wire mesh that protects most other trains' windows from stones. Choose this train if you can, but it's proving very popular, and it's often difficult to get berths on unless you book well in advance.
The second best train in Vietnam is train S1 (Southbound) / S2 (Northbound), pictured below left. The S1/S2 coaches are all refurbished and painted red whereas most other Vietnamese trains are green. The next best train is the S3 / S4. Each of these trains has a full range of classes of accommodation. Other trains generally use rolling stock that is much older.

And our Chiang Mai blogger has sent a quick and wonderfully detailed response!QuoteRe: Chiang Mai Amazing Race
Hey Peach,
Well I'm definitely a little surprised that you some how found my one reference
to the amazing race in my blog. I'd love to know how you found it?
so the details that I have:
-There were three couples. one was two shorter women. they had black backpacks
on and on the packs were yellow stickers that had an army slogan (i.e. "you can
do it").
We can see the army slogan now. "You can do it".
That's A.D. & Fuzzie (Singapore).

The taxi which the racers caught to task #1 called "Rod Daeng"
"Rod" means car/taxi
"Daeng" means red color
So, "Rod Daeng" is mean Red taxi.
They have only in Chiang Mai... :)

In Chiang Mai, they don't have a "Tuk-Tuk".
They have only red taxi(s) and buses in the town. :)
They have buses less than red taxi(s)...
So, red taxi(s) are full running on the road.
In the spoilers apskip we have documented the start line completely iin Bangkok, so Beijing seems to be out and the race starts on 5/20.
Why do you need an extended pitstop in Saigon? I see that it fits and agree w/ that, but why the need? We just lost a couple of days on the race...5/20 to about 6/8 doesn't leave us much time and I wonder if they will have any at all this time...
And I would love it if you could show us some of the later flight options for getting them in to Saigon late evening....maybe after 8PM??
Thank you!!
I think that we can use my friend probability and not the automatic "if it's the first leg in Amazing Race Asia, then it must be a NEL" that I believe no longer applies. There are 10 teams and let us assume 11 legs(although we have no clue right now how many there were). That says there are 3 NELs/TBCs and 7 elimination points and 1 race to the Finish Line. That gives us a 7/10 = 70% probability of a pitstop leg and a 30% probability of a NEL/TBC each leg up to the last one. As you actually experience pitstops and NEL/TBC legs, those probablities will change until the 10th leg becomes 100% of either a pitstop leg or a NEL/TBC leg.
Just heard from Mrs Shrek's blogger who was kind enough to tell us this: :hearts:QuoteI managed to get a couple pictures until they told me not to.
What else would we like to know? ???
I need to tweak the time estimate for the start shot.
Sorry! :res:
This shot was taken between 5:08 and 5:38 pm (assumes May 20th).
I remember it was around 5-6 pm when we saw them on Khao San Road.
Where are the extra ARA3 legs?
"I wanted the third series to look and feel different to the others.QuoteI didn't want it to focus so much on the big travel legs of series 2. I wanted to set a route that tested the stamina and endurance of the teams and their smarts.I was keen to establish it as an extremely tough race right from the outset and one that focuses attention on the teams and their relationships. I really do hope fans of the series will love The Amazing Race Asia 3 as much as we love producing it for them" he adds.
The best guess? If it is in Africa, the best place will be in Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar or Mauritius. Or if it is in Europe, the best place will be Greece, Finland (due to the fact that they'd sponsored Nokia and that country is famous for the maker of that cellphone brand), Poland, Germany, etc.
Taiwan was mentioned as a possibility to me some time ago, but is speculation without more evidence.
I would love it if teams broke with tradition and ended the race somewhere besides Thailand...perhaps it isn't too late for Beijing?? Again, speculation.
JonLover believes that he saw (As the AXN sight was loading) evidence for Goa and Osaka, both quickly removed.
A second leg in India is certainly very possible, and Goa is not all that far from Cochin.
So there are still all sorts of possibilities for us to play with, but my guess would be that TARA 3 does not visit either Africa or Europe this time
Maybe Cochin to somewhere in Australia for a couple of legs and then back to Asia
You never really know what is going to happen. Sometimes you think it is the end of the leg and then no, we get another clue and realise the race is still on.says 43-year-old Henry during a recent interview with The Star.

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ Geoff Rodriguez and Tisha Silang landed the No. 2 spot on the first day of a month-long competition for the reality program, “The Amazing Race Asia Season 3,” Inquirer Entertainment learned.LINK (http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view/20080908-159420/RP-duo-in-2nd-spot-on-Amazing-Race-Asia)
During the “Tara3” exclusive screening at the Inquirer offices in Makati City, we took a peek into what transpired in the day-long race that began in Bangkok and culminated in Chiang Mai in Thailand. Oliver Faivre, 26, and Mai Sarasas, 24, representatives of the host country, placed first.
On the first race day, all 10 teams were made to eat bugs, pound on rice grains and clean buses. More of these on the action-adventure channel AXN on Sept. 11 at 9 p.m.
The teams — two pairs each from Thailand, Malaysia and India, and one pair each from the Philippines, Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong — race to win $100,000.
In a statement sent to Inquirer Entertainment, AXN dubbed the new season as “The toughest race ever.” Fatigue level was so high, the statement said, that one production crew member was hospitalized. The race is said to be faster in pace, with shorter breaks, compared to the first two seasons.Geoff, 26, and Tisha, 32, have been dating for three and a half years. “Nobody would have thought that we’d end up dating. We have very different personalities,” said Tisha.
The couple said they have huge shoes to fill, since TV host Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez, as RP representatives last season, finished third.
Representing Hong Kong this season are best buddies Sam Wu, 32, university lecturer and Vince Chung, 32, comedian and host.
Kudos to Chateau for the "Oliver in the lead" time shots and to banzai et al who discussed the rice here...
Cleaning buses? Bangkok or Chiang Mai? Maybe they do that before they take the bus to Chiang Mai?? Or could those on a bus shots have anything to do with cleaning as opposed to "taking a bus"??
Bhandari says that products are integrated into the show. For instance, participants use a Nokia phone to navigate their way to the next location. Mascargo is used to transport equipment while Caltex is used in a Go Kart Challenge.
Actually one of my absolute favourite locations comes up towards the very end of this series so more on that another time.

WOW is a fashion brand in Vietnam. The reddish building at Henry and Bernie, if it is in HCMC, it may
be the church, "Nhà thờ Đức bà" but it's quite far from the market :(
The Jeanne d’arc church is located near Chinatown/Binh Tay Market , large market area and vendors, photos are easy to find.

I'll just take a wild stab at the odds and ask that the Joan of Arc church be the Pit Stop. Because
1) a team is shown crying/hugging there
2) that shot was near the end of the day (sun coming from the west)
3) the tiles!
4) down with the zoo spoiler!
“It was relentless ... everything was a blur. It is like nothing you have ever experienced before, really. I have worked in busy kitchens where I had to cook 100 dinners ... but in no way did it compare to what we had to go through in the race. You never really know what is going to happen. And time is tight. If they have a pitstop here and are released about 4AM on 5/24...where would they go for just one day before we see them in Hue?? Apparently flights don't allow Taiwan, for example.

9 hours ago, Michael_McKay says:
So to episode 2: what to expect and why 90 minutes?
Well the second point first: we simply couldn't fit everything that happened into a regular episode so you all get a bonus this week.
What to expect? Well first of all expect the unexpected, because that's part of the reason it is 90 minutes.
It is also a bruising affair. I have never seen this many bruises in an entire Race let alone a single Leg. This one inflicts some pain.
Tempers are lost, friendships tested, there are tears shed and egos bruised; and that's just the first segment LOL
So settle in for a long one on Thursday night.
Hint: The first episode was NOT why it was called The Toughest Race Ever.
Spoilers for the second elimination leg. (AXN Leg 2 or 3??) May 22-23
Since it looks like we have a very good handle on Leg 1/2 (whether it ends up being labelled 1/2 or just 1), I thought perhaps it is time to move onto Leg 3?
Some time ago, a new friend (who has requested to remain anonymous) shared some in-depth information about this leg with me. That person has been exceedingly generous with information and time, and I want to say a personal BIG :thankyou: for all the help! :yourock:
Okay then... This leg begins with 9 racers, and sadly neither Natalie or Pailin were seen during this leg, according to the source.
(Note: teams were previously spotted in the Chiang Mai airport on May 22, presumably on the way to Saigon.)
**The racers arrive in HCMC (Saigon) late in the evening. They are first looking for a clue in a flower shop, which does not open until 6AM. At least 2 teams return to wait at the shop by 4AM, but some teams apparently do not arrive until afternoon.
This actually works very well with our first Saigon spoiler brought to us by puddin, HERE (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15379.msg302225.html#msg302225). JonLover was able to reach the blogger and she shared some further info with us HERE (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15379.msg305001.html#msg305001). She saw the teams at the Q-BAR (http://www.qbarsaigon.com/)near the Caravelle Hotel, near Opera House sometime between 10-12PM.
Unfortunately, she reported a mistaken date (May 21) for the sighting to us which caused much teeth gnashing, :pull , and :wall:, and :argue: as we struggled to make the dates fit in an already tight schedule. But even though the date was clearly incorrect, I still believe that the sighting has validity.
** Once teams have their clue, they procede to the Ben Thanh market where they catch a bus to the "southwest" of VietNam. (The flower shop may be quite near or across the street from the market. ) The trip is reported to take "some hours".
From Slowhatch: If you have GE this download (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/download?mid=7e78e6f88aca9073a5eda987f048984a&rtyp=k2&fn=cho+ben+thanh&ctyp=other) will put a 3D model of Ben Thanh market on the map. You can see the buses lined up at the station across the square.
** Once teams reach their location, they have a choice between two Detours.
The first is to deliver some goods by boat on a river (assumption of a floating market here) OR chasing and catching some chickens.
Anyone remember this leg in TAR3? Day 23 (9/3): Flights via Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Min City, taxis to statue of Bac Ho in Rex Square. Then taxis proceed to floating market in Cai Be (Mekong Delta) for Easy Buy/Hard Sell Detour. Then back to Ho Chi Minh City to 2A Ton Duc Thang, District 1. Cyclo/ferry Roadblock to Café Thu Thiem pit stop [Derek/Drew eliminated].
Day 24 (9/4): Leg 12: Early departures, booking train to Hue. 24-hour train ride begins.
Day 25 (9/5): Taxis to Imperial Palace, then to Nam O Da Nang for Basket Boats/Bikes Detour. To boat quay in Hoi An (fishing platform Roadblock), then to China Beach pit stop [non-elimination].
Day 26 (9/6): Leg 13: Early departures to route marker at Guang Minh Temple in Da Nang, which directs them to arrange flights to Honolulu at a local travel agency before traveling via train to Hanoi.
That has brought up the possibility of Cai Be as the floating market teams may have visited, since we know TARA likes to re-use former TAR locations.QuoteCai Be, one of the many well-known floating markets in the western region of southern Vietnam was formed in the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. The Cai Be Floating Market is always busy, bearing all the characteristics of the locals life in the western region.
On each boat, goods are hung on poles that are called dialectically cay beo. Hundreds of such poles point the sky wards. Boats also operate like taxis, very convenient for tourists around the region.
(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TARA%203/TARA3ep2-3caibe.jpg)(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TARA%203/TARA3ep2-3caibe2.jpg)
**Following the detours, teams again take a bus back to HCMC, and proceed to the Saigon Zoo (http://www.saigonzoo.net/idx.php?mods=contact) which is also the site of the Pitstop.
One team is eliminated. It seems a little early to me to reveal who this is, but I will say for now that it is a M/M team.
So missing is a Roadblock (unless it is at the zoo?)...but I think this gives us a broad outline of what looks to be a very exciting leg. :hearts:

Check your mailbox. Episode 2 newsletter is out. :jumpy: :hearts:
That is such a funny angle but I REALLY want to go to the Mekong!!
I love your bridge pic puddin...do we think they are hanging underneath a bridge? ???
It looks as though the rappelling cable is running from side to side in that pic, and Oliver and Mai are being shot from underneath so the correct angle is hard to figure...
As a matter of interest the Amazing Race Asia did pass through Chiang Mai recently, it's yet to be aired and no one locally knew about it at the time except the owner of the X-Centre where part of it took place.http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15379.msg302615.html#msg302615

I went to the Citadel that afternoon since I have time. Went into the Imperial City. He’s no Takeshi Kaneshiro.
A team asked me for direction. I told them a very general direction. I hope they didn’t get lost, otherwise I would always be that cursed Asian tourist. Haha.
As promised, here is the picture taken by Shirley. Thanks Shirley.

Shirley, our delightful blogger from Hue, has responded to JonLover's and my questions in a joint email --we both seem to have asked her lots of questions about the teams she saw...so hope it's okay if I share this reply!
From JonLover's previous post:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Quote.
Shirley
I tried to put a number for reference to the teams she saw--and this is what she replied about each team:
Team 1: "I saw a Caucasian pair, (they are quite big) running towards the imperial palace."
QuoteThe first pair I saw, I vaguely remember a bald/clean-shaven Caucasian man. I can't remember his companion.QuoteThough I can't remember much of the first team,
Team 2: "two ladies, they are quite big, carrying their backpacks"
QuoteThe second pair I saw was 2 ladies. One of them has curly short hair
Team 3: "The third team I saw (I think, I can't remember with the time lapse) was cycling/riding a cyclo" "had a slip"
QuoteThe slip, if I don't remember wrongly is yellow.Quotethe third team or rather the team I saw with the slip and riding the cyclo was made up of two women. I don't remember seeing many Asians that day, possibly the 2nd team of 2 women carrying their backpacks, had an Asian. I remember the lady asking me for water is quite big-sized, I am not quite sure of her companion right now.
Team 4: The ones in the photo that she gave directions to...
And more answers about where the teams were and re Allen Wu and where/what he was doing:QuoteThe first three teams I saw was rather close to each other.
But I didn't see anything that looked like it's a mat.QuoteNo, I didn't see any pit stop mat, or any mats on the floor for that matter.
I sent her this photo and a few others but none of mine looked familiar to her :'(
(http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7522/tara3contestantsinbangkzz7.th.jpg) (http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tara3contestantsinbangkzz7.jpg)QuoteI am sorry I can't quite recognize any of the people in the picture.
But she did say:QuoteThe one in the yellow box could be the 2nd team I saw. I cannot confirm, so sorry about that.
Perhaps JonLover knows which photo this might be?? :duno:
Many thanks to Shirley for her time and generosity in sharing! :thankyou:
Peach, this is the picture I sent to Shirley. She's referring to the girl in green scarf or bandana.

I also sent her pictures of rumoured racers like Natalie Glebova and Miss India Sindhura Gadde; and the lady in a flickr picture taken in Hong Kong (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15379.125.html) but she could not recognize them as well.

Buses to Dalat, Buon Ma Thuot, Nha Trang, Danang, Hue and Hanoi depart from Mien Dong Bus Station (Ben Xe Mien Dong) (tel: (08) 898 4893), on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh in Binh Tan District.
VN250 0700 0820 for early teams or VN252 1130 1250 for later teamsbut we may need a later flight or 2 as well. And where is the bunching?
I just finished watching the whole thing, and was surprised to find our bridge in Cai Be!
I hope they don't have to GPS their way thru that! Oh my! :ascared
Banzai, what bridge do you mean please? For Mai/Oliver?
Now why is Natalie hanging out of this (Hue city??) bus with what looks like a GPS thing in her upheld arm?? Part of the Roadblock?

By Train
The Saigon Railway Station is located in District 3 of Saigon and was constructed in the early 1930s by the French. The station links to the 2600-kilometre Vietnamese railway system that runs up and down the coast between Hanoi and Saigon. Trains on the Saigon-Hanoi line stop along the way - at Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang and other smaller provincial cities. Tickets can be purchased at the station or from travel agents for a fee. It is advisable to book tickets in advance. The trains are not in the best of condition and train travel is slower than travelling by bus. However, they are safer for cross-country travel. It takes 36 hours from Saigon to Hanoi and 17 hours from Saigon to Danang. The trains are also much more spacious and offer you the chance to travel in comfort.
A new express service to Nha Trang reduces the journey from 12 hours to 7 hours. For more details on train timetables, you can call the Saigon Railway Station directly.

Whatever you do DO NOT miss the third Leg of the Race.
After the second Leg the teams are exhausted but remember what I wrote earlier about this series being relentless?
This episode is probably the key to the network giving it the tag line - "The Toughest Race Ever", so don't miss it.
Bus in Ho Chi Minh city
Intercity buses depart from and arrive at a variety of stations around HCMC. Cholon bus station (Add: Le Quang Sung str.) is the most convenient place to get buses to My Tho and other Mekong Delta towns. It's one street north of the sprawling Binh Tay Market.
Less convenient than Cholon, Mien Tay bus station (Tel: 825 5955) nevertheless has even more buses to areas south of HCMC (basically the Mekong Delta). This huge station is about 10km west of HCMC in An Lac, a part of Binh Chanh district. Buses and minibuses from Mien Tay serve most towns in the Mekong Delta.
Buses to points north of HCMC leave from Mien Dong bus station (Tel: 829 4056), in Binh Thanh district about 5km from central HCMC on Hwy 13, the continuation of Xo Viet Nghe Tinh str. The station is just under 2km north of the intersection of Xo Viet Nghe Tinh str. and Dien Bien Phu str.
There are services from Mien Dong to Buon Ma Thuot (15 hours), Danang (26 hours), Hai Phong (53 hours), Nha Trang (11 hours), Hanoi (49 hours), Hue (29 hours), Pleiku (22 hours), Vinh (42 hours), Quang Ngai (24 hours), Quy Nhon (17 hours), Nam Dinh (47 hours) and Tuy Hoa (12 hours). Most buses leave daily between 5am and 5.30am.
That's the team (Mai/Oliver) who asked me for direction. I pointed them to the flag of the Citadel (which was the general direction they were headed for).
thats the other school Boingo

I can't get the VR (http://www.vr.com.vn/English/) site to cough up a timetable, but VietnamImpressive (http://www.vietnamimpressive.com/service/reunification-express-train.html), an online agent, has the 2008 schedules (about what you'd expect) plus flight info.Is this what you need?
Not a spoiler, more like a wish, that they use the dragon boats
Tours depart at 8am from the main wharf and return at about 4pm. There are numerous identical Dragon boats that all depart at the same time. You can be picked up from your hotel for no additional charge.
The trip visits Linh Mu (Thien Mu) pagoda, Hon Chen Temple, Tu Duc Tomb, Minh Mang Tomb and Khai Dinh Tomb spending between 45 minutes and an hour at each stop. This is definately not enough time for a true temple junkie but it is a good way to get your bearings as to the historical sites in Hue.
Both Tu Duc and Khai Dinh tombs require a moto-taxi once you get there, and the drivers are quite notorious for doubling the negotiated price for the return trip. Each site has an entry fee of between AU$1.50 and $4. Having paid $2 for the boat trip is hardly cause for complaint. A basic cooked lunch is included in the price with the option of paying for extra dishes. The boat itself is basically a decoratively covered barge with plastic garden chairs there is no commentary or guides at the sites.
A dragon boat cruise down the Perfume River is the best way to see the imperial palaces, tombs and temples of Hue. It costs just 25,000 VND for an all-day cruise, starting at 8am and returning at 3pm..
A minibus will collect you from your hotel and take you to the landing stage. This is included in the price, as is a simple lunch and drink. Entrance fees are not included. Also, you will need to pay extra for a motorbike taxi to take you to any site that is not close to the river.
The route takes in Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc Tomb, Hon Chen Temple, Khai Dinh Tomb and Minh Mang Tomb. The boat will drop you at the the Citadel at the end of the cruise, if you request it.
You can buy a ticket at any travel agency in Hue, including Sinh Cafe

A minibus will collect you from your hotel and take you to the landing stage. This is included in the price, as is a simple lunch and drink. Entrance fees are not included. Also, you will need to pay extra for a motorbike taxi to take you to any site that is not close to the river.
The route takes in Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc Tomb, Hon Chen Temple, Khai Dinh Tomb and Minh Mang Tomb. The boat will drop you at the the Citadel at the end of the cruise, if you request it.
You can buy a ticket at any travel agency in Hue, including Sinh Cafe
so we still see two kinds of buses--a local city bus and another....where are they coming from/ going to?
SO y'all may know this already. I was looking for the bamboo matting in the Citadel and came across this little map:
http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/hue/imperialcityindex.htm
All this time I have been thinking that the Imperial Palace was ONE place, and the Citadel another.
Instead, The Forbidden Purple City is inside the Imperial Palace which is inside the Citadel.
Here is a Vietnam era military map of the Citadel as well:
http://grunt.space.swri.edu/visit/maps/Hue1.jpg
So if it is all together, WHY did Shirley see Allen Wu at the Imperial Palace?? Even though she saw no mat there, could this be the Pitstop after all?
In which case we need to look at a much earlier arrival time, which could rule out trains.
Suppose they do Detours somewhere, Roadblock at the Tomb, and then bus back to Hue where they cyclo to the Citadel/Imperial Palace/Purple City for the PITSTOP??
Beginning next year, new license plates for cars will have two alphabetic letters and four digits, and scooters plates will have three alphabetic letters and three digits — and neither of them will have any fours. From http://pinyin.info/news/2005/taiwan-to-abandon-use-of-4-on-license-plates/
Okay...speculating now and just tossing this out there...
The one gap we have so far in our Timeline (see page 1) so far is May 26-27--after Hue and before HK.
Based on a little hint I was given  and based on geographical proximity, puddin and I have been talking about TAIWAN for the missing location.
Apskip---can we make it fit with flights? Vietnam to Taiwan to HK?
Puddin and I think it might fit in well here...
:sucks Hey peach, looks like a food challenge... time to dust off the Travel Channel "Bizarre Foods" episodes from previous TAR season and maybe we will finally have a "stinky tofu" challenge. :funny:Or even what my parents like to call "thousand year old eggs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_egg)". They eat still eat them. I find them disgusting, but they love them. Maybe this is what they'll eat in Taiwan.

Niroo: We want to go back home. That's all.
Would the teams by any chance go Hue>HK>Taiwan? Or is that slower?
Because it drove us nuts, here are some clips of the little yellow house--this is after teams leave the bus station and are walking towards the Caltex place:

lmao Boingo
:funny: Did a quick Vietnamese to English translation of the individual words on the building, and here's what I get... (depending on the accent marks over the letters)
phong = to bestow
hàu = oyster
háu = have one's desire met
hào = trench,ditch
háo = greedy, eager for fame
vè = mudguard
ve = tick scar (on the eyelid) phial, vial laped, revers
vẻ = look, appearance, sound
vẽ = draw, to paint to contrive
vé = ticket
.... and so on and so on.......
I guess it's a ticket booth (where ones desires are met) :funny: :snicker:
I think it could be the bus station itself--they are leaving there heading to the Caltex site--not near any ruins yet...I was kidding! lol but it was a ticket booth :D
Yeah like, find the restaurant in Taiwan with the red brick wall, I'll pass :carryon:
Kind of a sparse preview this week, lol!
In reference to flying from Hue, you should also take into account that Da Nang Airport is extremely close and is a much better airport with more flights. Most people who do not arrive in Hue by train or bus usually take the plane to Da Nang and the bus/train from there.

Thousand Year Old Egg.
If it's the Amazing Race Asia, then you can rest assured there will be mentions of Caltex, Sony HD Handicam and Standard Chartered Bank somewhere during the season. But these product placements for Caltex this season are a bit much.
UPDATED ARA3 TIMELINE (modified on Sept. 25)Maybe they go to a European country or city that the American version having been to. Maybe it is Madrid, Spain or Belgium.
I now show 8 legs through Oman, so there are three more left to identify.
May 20 leg 1 begins; teams spotted late afternoon at Khao San Road in Bangkok
overnight tranportation to Chiang Mai is by one of 3 chartered buses
May 21 task in Chiang Mai, then pitstop;
leg 2 begins with pitstop release starting in the 10pm time frame
May 22 teams have tasks in the morning and then get to Chiang Mai airport in the afternoon for flight to Saigon
The first may be too early at 1225 1330. Any team that gets that will make an excellent connection TG614 BKK SGN 1540 1710. However, few teams will be able to do that. Most teams will be on TG111 1440 1550 CNX BKK. Their best connection option is TG686 1815 1945 BKK SGN. Only for teams that are not able to get bookings on that will it be necessary to take the flight through Siem Reap to Saigon. Teams do not go directly from CNX to REP as there are no schedules for that time frame. However VN848 has one stop in Siem Reap and is BKK SGN 1740 2125. As for Natalie and Pailin and others, they apparently do not make reasonable flights out of either CNX or BKK and are stuck overnight. If in CNX, the best flight combination is CNX BKK TG125 0700 0810 connecting Bangkok to BKK SGN TG680 0900 1030.
If they overnight in Bangkok, then their best bet is TG680 0900 1030.
May 23
So teams will arrive at Saigon airport from evening through late morning and then do tasks there starting at 6am to early afternoon
this includes tasks away from Saigon in the Vietnam countryside, but the pitstop is back in Saigon afternoon through late evening
May 24 teams on release from pitstop start leg 3 with a 25 hour bus ride from Saigon to Hue.
May 25 teams arrive late morning to early afternoon and do fairly short tasks around Hue. The start the pitstop late afternoon to evening.
May 26 teams are released from pitstop in a range of morning times.
As leg 4 begins they fly to Taipei on either
HUI HAN VN240 0820 0955 combined with HAN TPE CI684 1135 1510 OR
HUI HAN VN244 1255 1405 combined with HAN TPE CI9024 1720 2100
There is also a Hue Saigon VN251 0910 1030 connecting with BR392 1255 1730 to get to Taipei. It accomplishes nothing unless a team cannot make 0820 departure but could make 0910 or unless VN240 had no more Amazing Race Asia seats.
I have also looked at flights from DaNang to both Hanoi and Saigon. They do not change much. DAD SGN VN323 1340 1450 could connect with BR396 1555 2025, which provides a 45 minute earlier arrival than the combination through Hanoi.
The teams arriving at 1730 in Taipei will be able to do some tasks before Hours of Operation gets them.
May 27 Taipei more tasks; pitstop
May 28 begin leg 5 Taipei to Hong Kong
There is an average of 3 flights every hour from 6am to 6pm.
tasks in Hong Kong
May 29 complete tasks in Hong Kong; pitstop
May 30 begin leg 6 and travel to Macau after taking hydrofoil in under 1 hour
tasks; extended pitstop
May 31 extended pitstop continues
June 1 begin leg 7; return to Hong Kong Airport by hydrofoil; fly to Singapore;
most probable flights are CX717 0855 1230 or SQ857 1030 1410 or CX739 1120 1505
then connect on to Cochin SilkAir468 SIN COK 2020 2215
June 2 Cochin area tasks, then pitstop in the evening
June 3 begin leg 8; fly Cochin to Muscat, Oman with choices of:
OmanAir 828 0715 0915 COK MCT
IndianAir973 1940 2140 COK MCT
COK to DBX Emirates 531 1030 1245 connecting in Dubai with Emirates 6478 DBX MCT 1810 1910
COK to BOM JetAirways 406 0830 1015 connecting in Mumbai with Jet Airways 808 BOM MCT 1730 1830
June 4 Oman tasks; pitstop
June 5 leg 9; fly Oman to UNKNOWN1, possibly in Africa or Europe
June 6 tasks at UNKNOWN1; pitstop
June 7 leg 10 travel to UNKNOWN2
June 8 tasks at UNKOWN2
June 9 final leg begins; fly to UNKNOWN AISAN CITY(which may require until June 10 to cross time zones by air) and Finish Line(maybe on June 10)
I haven't seen what you're talking about yet, but Taiwan pages are here (http://worldplates.blogspot.com/search/label/taiwan) and here (http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/world/AS_TAIW.html): generally, it's two letters followed by four digits with the province name in chinese on top.
Goodbye to the 'Taiwan Province' of the roads
By Dan Bloom
Thursday, Jan 04, 2007, Page 8
`All nations evolve and change in small, incremental steps, from the design of flags to the words of national anthems and license plate slogans.'
When Chen Jin-yuan (陳晉源), chief of the Directorate General of Highways, told reporters last month that all new license plates for cars and motorcycles will no longer indicate the areas where the vehicles are registered, his words signaled a new era in Taiwan's evolving history.
For the first time, license plates around the country will no longer state -- above the assigned numerals and in Chinese characters -- that Taiwan is a province of China.
The new policy, which went into effect on New Year's Day, will apply to all new license plates issued in Taiwan, Chen said. He added that all old plates will eventually have to be replaced.
So goodbye "Taiwan Province" on the old license plates and welcome to reality. All new licenses will just display numerals, with cities such as Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung also no longer serving as "area" marks for vehicles registered there.
All across the country, the new license plates will usher in a new era of consciousness and symbolism, not so much for the city area marks, but for the "Taiwan Province" mark that always seemed so out of place in the new Taiwan of the 21st century.
News reports say that drivers long questioned the necessity of printing "Taiwan Province" above the numbers on the plates since the Taiwan Provincial Government was officially downsized, or frozen, in 1998.
Basically, the provincial government no longer exists, and the new license plates being issued this month will reflect that reality.
Changes in public consciousness and national feelings of patriotism and identity occur in small steps and this new license plate policy is one of them.
No longer will Taiwanese have to explain to their foreign friends why their cars or scooters bear license plates with a "Taiwan Province" mark on them, since everyone knows there is no Taiwan Province anymore, thanks to former president Lee Teng-hui's (李登輝) progressive initiative when he was in office.
OK brief summary of the preview:
Teams driving at night, Geoff looking at a map with green to the north and blue to the south. Looks suspiciously like India to me, but we know we're not there yet. Possibly looking at Southwest China (towards the top of supposed Indian map) then? Teams pass through a tunnel.
Restaurant with "Chinese characters" on a no-smoking sign (too many characters for a simple "No smoking" though). Teams have to eat something nasty.
Niroo (thanks TARAsia fan!) wants to give up, on the side of a road, at night.
I :duno: Neobie said tunnel on first look but it does look more like a bridge...
Can you do them all like that?? :luvu:
If Taipei is the place(which is most likely), then arrival there would be either mid-afternoon to late evening of May 26 at the earliest. Either way, we will see hours of operation and the Taipei area pitstop will not be possible to start until the evening of the 27th.
I'd say it is a tunnel shot. You and Neobie are smart, the tunnel looks good Chateau :)
Although this one is not a match, it gives an idea of how the tunnels look. (from Peach's link)
This one could be it: Xueshan-tunnel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Xueshan-tunnel-east.jpg)
is the longest tunnel in Taiwan, located on the Taipei-Yilan Freeway (Taiwan National Highway No. 5). The western entrance is located at 24.9386° N 121.715° E. The eastern entrance is at 24.8478° N 121.791° E. It is through the Hsuehshan Mountain Range. The road connects the city of Taipei to the northeastern county of Yilan (Ilan), cutting down the journey time from two hours to just half an hour. One of the key aims of constructing the tunnel was to connect the western coast of Taiwan, where 95% of the population live, to the eastern coast of the island and in doing so tackle the unbalanced development on the island.
THank you Chateau! I couldn't choose. I agree the sides, double white line all look good.
Okay, from the tunnel links upstream:

So any ideas why they would want to go there? (Ilan)
Thanks for the time info apskip!
Would they go thru this coming from the airport?? Or do we need to keep looking at all the tunnels? ???
Is that Ida? If she and Tania are both doing it, it isn't the Roadblock.I had the feeling she was watching peach's, not eating the tofu pate, lol.
And note the time on her watch --just about 3:10...
Ida is eating and Tania barfs when Ida barfs, thats my take.
yes Pailin raced well and seemed up for the Race, which is to take nothing away from Natalie who tried her best. The next couple of Legs are going to be tough for the Racers, there is no let up for now and they will be tested yet again. I am not so fussed about big travel Legs in this third series, in fact we deliberately went for short, sharp Legs. We wanted this Race to be relentless and I think we've succeeded. So don't expect the focus to be on long travel sectors (unless it is in a bus or something like that).
Sam and Vince are racing quite well without being spectacular. They may be going under the other teams' radar but I think they will need to be a little bolder if they are to stay in the hunt.
I think with them, what you see is what you get. They are nice guys and very down to earth. They have a good sense of humour and are perhaps a little goofy. I'm pleased you like them.
This week on TARA the Race continues to be unrelenting and punishing. And, I'm sorry to say (for the Racers at least) there is no sign of a let up just yet ;)
puddin's bamboo screen aka Tatami mat?? Oh you are good Boingo!! :yess:
hint indeed! :neener:
Do you think this is the place, or just an example??
Perhaps they have performances there and change out the "backdrop"??
And oh yeah, I looked too.... :groan:
You did good, we'll say you are entitled to gloat a little! :gj: :yourock: :nanapeach is blind! .. sorry peach, but a rose is a rose right under your nose.

Chinese turns out to be easier to read at a distance (thanks Puddin!) - this is 通菜街, Tung Choi St in Mong Kok which puts it here in the middle of Ladies' Market, at the intersection with Shantung St...

So next leg should be Hong Kong?
Perhaps they have performances there and change out the "backdrop"??I was wondering why you were asking "where is it Boino?"
And oh yeah, I looked too.... :groan:
Where is it, Boingo?
Map (http://www.morinhotel.com.vn/map.html). :waves:
There is a conflict of times that is bothering me. I have believed that the "end of the pier" activity in Hong Kong was on Wed. May 28. This is based on the blog which has a picture of the place where allan Wu was sighted and states "Thursday, May 29, 2008 Its 107am, Hong Kong.", which means that the sighting was May 28. However, other photos appear to indicate that the event took place on Thursday May 28. Which is it?
Hours of operation elimination?? Hmmm....... ???
Any location hints?? Should be HK we think... But remotely possible to squeeze in one more place if no extended pitstops...

2 hours ago, DinKnight says:
who drove the silver Tiida in Taiwan? Alan was knocking on its window. It was not Henry and Bernie (light blue), AD and Fuzzie (white I think) or Geoff and Tisha (black).
Anybody can figure it out?
Based on what I see in the preview, I saw nothing about Hong Kong but quite a lot in Taipei.
AH! Then I've only got 1 line to say.I don't know, would they make it so easy for us to figure out? Who's to say they use the same car again? We know from other TAR's that they can use whatever vehicle they want at the start of the next leg.
Byebye, BrattyPrincess/Flai(Flo+Mai)....... Poor Oliver..... :waves:
GUYS IVE DISCOVERED SOMETHING! IT MIGHT NOT BE IN TAIPEI, ITS JAPAN! IN THE VIDCAP OF OLIVER AT THE BRAVIA TV PLACE, THE LABEL ON 1 OF THE TV SAYS " ri ben dian shi (chinese)", which literally means Japan TV! And in the vid(preview), I saw lots of Japanese words! Btw, I went to Japan last winter.
So it might be Japan, not Taiwan or Hongkong!
Can our detectives look into this please??
And the "heading" of the eatery thing that whoever posted in "sogo" mall of taipei says "han shi pan fan" which literally means korean-style rice. So maybe its Korea? And Japanese dress like the passerbys in the video. So do Korean. ^^ :funny: ;) :waves: :yess:  :neener: :jumpy: :hearts: :sucks :wohoo:
I doubt they stay in Taipei though (two pitstops same city, prob not)
I doubt they stay in Taipei though (two pitstops same city, prob not)
If there are no 2 pitstops in the same city, then it's a TBC??? :duno:
I notice Allan didn't say anything about good bye to a team. Hmm.
Geoff and Tish probably went to the wrong store, lolI doubt they stay in Taipei though (two pitstops same city, prob not)
If there are no 2 pitstops in the same city, then it's a TBC??? :duno:
I notice Allan didn't say anything about good bye to a team. Hmm.
I like the TBC, Banzai... solves a few timeline issues...
BTW, there is a SOGO in the Taipei 101 Mall. Looks like the previous pitstop at City Hall was not that far from Taipei 101. Can the next leg's first task be to find a clue at the SOGO in the Taipei 101 Mall? (Hours of operation of mall?)
SOGO 101 brochure (http://www.taipei-101.com.tw/ch/mall/event/eBrochure/071018/eBrochure.html)
Why the same city? They have plenty of time to go elsewhere in Taiwan, don't they?Thats what i think too peach, again looking thru Taiwan cities, North and about *bangs head on desk* ..why is Allan wearing a jacket?
And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.
And with this next leg lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.
Can anyone pull up driving or train times to Kaohsiung?? But keep in mind they wouldn't have to go all the way to Kaohsiung --they could drive some distance after pitstop release the next day right?
I messed up. :groan: It's the same mat. I thought it was 2 different pitstops.
Never mind what I said earlier. :-[
Not my day. (:;)
I agree with you Anthonyctf, good job!
Allans blog is up

Can anyone pull up driving or train times to Kaohsiung?? But keep in mind they wouldn't have to go all the way to Kaohsiung --they could drive some distance after pitstop release the next day right?
:sucks quick check of the internet says that driving time between Taipei and Kaoshiung is approx. 5.5 hrs (but high speed rail is only 90 mins.) so why drive? :duno:
(:;) .. this might be helpful?
Wish we could match where that car is, that would answer a lot of questions. (hint hint hint) :funny: :funny: :funny:
Peach,
We have been through this argument on this thread months ago. I remember that the supertrain gets from Taipei to Kaohsiung in about 100 minutes. I check it in the morning when I get home from church.
Don't forget the tunnel shot.
Even though it's always tough to see another team go, I could still put on a smile cuz we could all now get some much-needed rest...
And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.
Is there anybody posted this news?
http://hk.news.yahoo.com/article/080929/3/8h6e.html
It's about Sam & Vince, and I think it contains 2 spoiler of Roadblock
and it shows how far they stay in the competition
I'm showing that paragraph:
遊戲中部分挑戰是要選一個隊員獨力迎戰,他們可按提示決定人選,雖然二人個性迥異,但原來決定人選亦困難重重。Sam說:「有提示是要游泳,自然選了Vince,但原來游泳過程要考智力;有一次提示是貓,我一向喜歡貓,便由我出賽,誰知遊戲要求搬動數十隻小貓。」
During the race, some of the tasks need to pick one team member to do it alone (which mean Roadblock), they can decide which one to do it based on what the clue had said. Although they have different strength , but it's actually hard to make the decision. "Once, the clue said that it needs to swim, so we chose Vince, but it turned out the task also involved mental part; And another time, the clue said something about cat, I love cat, so i got to do that, but i found out ...the task was requesting to move a bunch of cats.(it said "more than ten", i guess it's about 30-80)",Sam said.
and the last paragraph:
至今遊戲已圓滿結束,但二人都不願透露結果。不過無論如何,他們都已贏得友誼。Vince說:「雖然有不同意見,但我們不斷提醒對方『這只是遊戲,不能因此失去好友』,最後我們的友情增進了!」
The race is now over, but both of them hadn't reveal the result to us. But whatever had happened, they already won their friendship."Even though we have different opinions, but we still remind
to each other constantly ' it's just a game, I are not gonna lost our friendship.', and at last, our friendship have pulled further!

for EP. 5
- still in taiwan
- a fast forward is set to appear.
- play a movie challenge. probably a road block.
- coal mining task
- one team get so tired that they took time to sleep instead. this is where allan was shown knocking on one of the cars.
- intense episode with accident, police involvements and screaming matches.

Actually I have read this "Minor Spoiler" on The Philippine Star newspaper this morning. I'm trying to get the link on the internet so most of you can read it
Anybody here ges to EMW? If you do, NOW you understand why I predicted Japan in this forum? So I'm STICKING LIKE SUPPERRR GLUUEEE to Japan. I think it's either Tokyo/Osaka/Hokkaido. Heh.... Maybe.....
They do Detour and RB in Taiwan, then after evrything, they go to Allan and Allan tells them the race is STILL on, they have to fly to Japan, where they have to do ANOTHER detour and a extra task and go to the pitstop in Japan.....
Imagination...LOL :)
BUT in this "imagination" of mine, the window-knocking part fits in nowhere. Lol.
Oh! Maybe...
After the RB, teams get their clue that asks them to "Meet Allan on the mat", then Mai/Oliver lose their way (AGAIN!) and end u back at original RB place. Allan goes there and tells them tht they HAVE TO skip th RB and go to Japan...
Oh well, it's all my IMAGINATION.....
An old electric coal mining train. The museum guide proudly explained that there are only two of these in the world, both in this museum. They were built by the Japanese during their occupation of Taiwan. With only one headlight and an outer yellow body resembling the garment of monks, some nickenamed it the one-eyed monk. Next stop: HONG KONG!
Vince and Sam are running with the ticket agent - I think they barely scrape onto a flight! Fuzzie's not too happy about that. Cathay, China Airlines, Thai Airways, Dragonair and EVA are the five airlines operating direct services between Taipei and Hong Kong. Over to you, Apskip!
I see the Star Ferry - wow, four seasons of Hong Kong and each of them featuring the Star Ferry? AD/Fuzzie and Bernie/Henry are still together on this one. Geoff is waiting at the Central Pier - this means they're taking the ferry over to Tsimshatsui or Hung Hom, not the other way around.
Location of the rugby - King's Park in Kowloon? That looks like the Parc Palais (http://www.statelyhome.com.hk/StatelyHomeImage/8A/FE/AA075A98488F982E250B7B8CCA91-1.jpg) in the background. It's a reference to the Hong Kong Sevens (http://www.hksevens.com/index.html) by the way...
So in this leg, by the time I go out to perform my first "mobile elimination" this season with Mai and Oliver, over fifteen hours have passed since Sam and Vince checked in the day before.
...none of us would come close to seeing any of the other teams until late until the night...and even the following morning.
So Sam and Vince checked in around 2 PM?
anthony, I would have to say that Vince/Sam pitstop arrival was closer to 4pm. Driving to the tatoo parlor and driving from there to the Astronomiocal Museum should take more than one hour and the tatoos maybe 15 minutes each.
The picture of the male with his back to us with "sunlight" through a window on the left confuses me. It looks like Oliver to me but it appears to be the inside of a museum. He could not have been in a museum during episode 5 in the daylight given what we know about his movements. Can anyone identify who it might be?
Before we move onto HK, can any of our GE whiz guys pinpoint the location of the car in Taipei now? :please:
It should be close to the Sogo store....

16/10 (Thursday) - Season 3, Episode 6
Destination: Hong Kong
In a gruelling competition that has taken teams through five countries and territories (sic), five teams have been eliminated, and five remain to battle it out as they move one step closer to the finish line.
The latest leg takes place in Hong Kong; With "Team Hong Kong" holding a lead from the previous leg in Taipei and their newly-found home-turf advantage, will they surge far ahead of the other teams?
Among the tasks in the city is one taking place in an old, mysterious open market at Central, where teams rely on the help of "lucky cookies" (also "fortune cookies") to advance.
Every minute counts, and when most teams take the taxi to Kowloon, will a team find a quicker mode of transportation? And with the dizzying number of handbags at the Ladies' Market, wouldn't it be torturous to find one containing their next clue? And in the end, which team will beat the rest to Mongkok's Goldfish Market - the Pitstop for this leg of the race?
Thanks Anthonyctf for the summary! I'll do the complete article so the detectives don't miss a thing...QuoteThe Amazing Race Asia

:groan: So little of this has to do with Hong Kong! (Especially those darned fortune cookies - ten years in Hong Kong and I have never, ever, ever had pieces of paper snuck into what I'm eating!)
The Star Ferry looks like a given, so I'm thinking the MTR is that one team's secret weapon. Travelling from Central to Mong Kok, a team taking the MTR should be able to shave off at least fifteen minutes avoiding the circuitous and congested roads!
Two legs - two Pitstops? Is that even possible? But that means we'd have to end the race in Africa or something?

Clearing up an incorrect date for a confirmed spoiler. Allan's blog (http://www.alivenotdead.com/allanwu) mentions (under the entry "Bye Bye Beauty Babes") that he flew up to Hue and did his camera pieces -- presumably including the Imperial Palace bit -- the day before the contestants arrived, when they were travelling by bus.Yes, its confirmed the 25th (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,15379.msg303564.html#msg303564) here if thats what you mean?

And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.
Tell you all about that next time!

Hi folks, my apologies for not getting back to everyone.
I am currently in Cannes, France for MIPCOM, the annual television market.
As I think most of you will appreciate, we've been quite hard on the Teams over the first 5 Legs. I think this week might a good time to let them have some fun so expect it to be a little more light hearted. I can't promise the light heartedness will remain beyond the next leg though ;)
Hope you enjoy this week's episode and get a laugh out of it.

Hi-five sun7kid! It's the corner of Des Voeux Rd Central and Hiller St, facing North towards Shun Tak.
(I live ten minutes away. Thought I would recognize it!)
But why are they RUNNING there from a block away when taxis go straight towards Shun Tak? (Refer to TAR11.) From where they are they'd need to go down to the MTR tunnel or go up an overhead bridge to get to the ferry terminal, across from Connaught Rd W.
Think we got the Pit Stop!Is it becoz Geoff & Tisha standing there?

I believe they are ahead in Delhi, banzai but I should recheck that.
I believe they are ahead in Delhi, banzai but I should recheck that.
Huh? Who ever mentioned Delhi? Did you really mean Cochin? Best flight does not go through Delhi, they are nonstop from Sinagpore to Cochin.

ARA3 TimelinePeach, pleased note that every ARA3 Timeline after June 2 has included the flight SilkAir468 SIN COK 2155 2350. The one above was changed to May 31 at your request, but changed back to June 1 later. I have seen and shown a variation that leaves and arrives about 2 hours earlier, but that is immaterial for your question.
I was surprised to discover that the full timeline has not been updated since June 2 even though legs of it have been updated. There are a number of assumptions to get me from that one to the updated version below:
1. I switched the order of Beijing and Bangkok to conform to what others have believed and due to the interplay of a May 18 Allan Wu Singapore airport sighting with the Chiang Mai leg. There isn't time to fit Bangkok - Beijing - Chiang Mai via Bangkok into the schedule.
2. The Macau leg is very logical. Indeed, I speculated that it was one of about 10 highest probability places to follow Hong Kong.
3. The Singapore airport sighting of Allan Wu on June 1 does not appear to me to involve a leg there. I am sticking with it as a transit point between Hong Kong airport(following Macau leg) and Cochin.
4. I do not agree with sending teams off to Taiwan although the jury is not out on that yet. I have kept Hanoi as the next leg after Hue in this timeline.
May 19 Beijing - start of ARA3; pitstop
May 20 leg 2 begins; teams spotted in Beijing airport before 935am and then mid afternoon at Khao San Road in Bangkok

May 30 Macau tasks; pitstop

most probable flights are CX735 1415 1800 or CX711 1615 2000
SilkAir468 SIN COK 2155 2350
I have seen and shown a variation that leaves and arrives about 2 hours earlier, but that is immaterial for your question. This may be quite material, actually, as a flight that leaves 7 hours after they arrived is not a flight that leaves 3 hours after they arrive, which is what we need. So earlier could indeed be better.
In Singapore, our racers booked the next Air India flight from Singapore to Cochin, which was scheduled to depart in approx 3 hours from either Terminal 2 or 3.--from our source
The issues are two:
one is that the source and Geoff/Trisha were ticketing AT AN AIR India counter, so can they ticket Silk Air there?
And our source also said that Geoff/Trisha were leaving about three hours after their arrival, which was at 3:05PM, so 6-ish PM.QuoteI have seen and shown a variation that leaves and arrives about 2 hours earlier, but that is immaterial for your question. This may be quite material, actually, as a flight that leaves 7 hours after they arrived is not a flight that leaves 3 hours after they arrive, which is what we need. SO the "best" flight may not be the flight that our team took, which is what we are trying to find here. We need a flight that can both be ticketed at an Air India counter and departs about 6-ish PM.QuoteIn Singapore, our racers booked the next Air India flight from Singapore to Cochin, which was scheduled to depart in approx 3 hours from either Terminal 2 or 3.--from our source
Think we got the Pit Stop? A-Ma Statue on Coloane Peak (actually the temple just next to it)?

Looks like they're right outside the main gate, at the top of the staircase. (That black spot on the floor is the decoration used in the centre of Chinese ceremonial/ornamental stairways.)
Word of caution! The temple we're looking at is on Coloane Peak. There's a much more famous A-Ma Temple on the Macau Peninsula, outside the Maritime Museum - and that one's the oldest temple in Macau. This one's also known as the A-Ma Cultural Village.
But even though this has been one tough race, it was great to see how much Tania and Ida showed how much they still wanted to stay in the race at the pit stop. When you've made it this far, you might as well go as far as you can go. And believe me...there's still quite a ways too!
Neobie!! Somehow in my dazed overworked stupor last night I missed your find! Great job!! :jumpy: :wohoo: :jumpy:
So probable Pitstop? Bowing to the greeter?
Ida and Tania start ep.7 with a one to two hour deficit, so with the race going on to Macau by hydrofoil, there probably won't be any bunching opportunities. In that case, Ida/Tania being eliminated is expected. This will be a tragedy for ARA3, but I bet they give it their all against the setting of few chances to catch up.
Back to the Macau Tower...? (:;)
And it's... Africa!
AHH cr@p.. I forgot to catch the preview :(
Anyone can put the preview up soon? Where are they headed next? India(Cochin) or Africa?OMG......
Next leg's SET to be a EL....Bye I/T? or shock elimination to H/B? We dont know~
Given how cheapskate AXN has been, the helicopter should be a Fast Forward, don't you think? But Allan mentioned that there was only 1 FF in the race in TW
And of course, we already know that Geoff and Trish and our source were on Cathay Pacific # CX739 which departed HK approx 11:20 AM on June 1, so any others will have to be after that.
Given how cheapskate AXN has been, the helicopter should be a Fast Forward, don't you think?
Okay still looking but maybe? I want elly-phonts!! :yess:

So the elephants are part of the detour next episode? How about the fish?
I think the next leg will be in Singapore, where Geoff and Tisha will be able to go ahead of the pack. Unless it's a TBC leg.
My speculation is that:
Episode 8: Singapore TBC
Episode 9: India ELIMINATION
Episode 10: NEL
Episode 11: NEL
Episode 12: ELIMINATION
Episode 13: FINALE
Unless they did cut the budget for TARA 3 and decided to have less episodes (or more TBC legs)
 Cochin city bus (http://mayaonline.sulekha.com/mstore/mayaonline/albums/default/FK%2035.jpg)
You are killing me Boingo! :lol3: Took me an hour to get that!
That scene with jumping off a Tower is interesting. There is only one place where it could happen and that is Macau Tower. There is time in Singapore to take a taxi from the airport and back and there is the GMAX Reverse Bungy there, but it is not a match for the jump in the preview. There is nothing like bungy in Cochin.
EDITOR'S NOTE - I stated that there is no bungy in Cochin, but subsequently found a listing for:
Location: Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai & Cochin, India
Type: tower
Height: 180 ft
Company: AJ Hackett Bungy (India)
Comments: mobile sites
So there may be a 180 foot bungy that can be brought to the area. However, the AJHackett international website lists nothing for India.
The skyJump is what Charla did on the way down...it is something like a zip and definitely is not this. This is the real deal bungy.
The reason I think it is a bungy is that the bungy's go off head first and come down head first, while the SkyJump comes down feet first all the way...
Here is a SkyJump YouTube to compare:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BR5ZYTmZW8
What am I missing? ??? I see the cable...
So maybe one team member does the Jump and one the bungy? That would be quicker for sure ...

- Japan Airlines only applicable to flight no: JL736, JL732, JL702 (Final destination of the journey should be in Tokyo or Osaka)
- There will be a service charge of HK$20 for each passenger using the service
The Macau pataca is pegged to the Hong Kong dollar (which is in turn pegged to the U.S. dollar) at a rate of $103.20 ptcs to HK$100; if you're going to be in Macau for only a short time, there's no need to change your money into patacas since Hong Kong dollars are readily accepted everywhere in Macau. Hotel rates, in fact, are generally quoted only in Hong Kong dollars. If you do exchange U.S. dollars or U.K. pounds (which you can do at banks, generally open weekdays from 9am to 5pm; at hotels; or an ATM at the ferry), you'll receive approximately $8 ptcs for each US$1, $15 ptcs for each £1.
Boingo, I've been to Macau and also to Lantau Island (before the new airport construction) and I can assure you that "given the racers impatience, they probably will take a cab to the airport" does not compute. It is a long stretch of water on all sides of Lantau Island although there is a bridge connecting to it now that didn't used to exist. You can't get from Macau over to the side where that bridge by car or bus or any land transportation. You have to go by air or sea.
No, Boingo, that is not the speculation, which is about getting from Macau directly to Hong Kong Airport. Getting from
Hong Kong Island to Hong Kong Int. Airport is not the issue. To do that you first have to take a longer TurboJet into Hong Kong Island the HK/Macau Ferry terminal. When you combine that with the time to head back in the direction you just came from to Lantau Island, the sum of those two times is unreasonable compared to thte 45 minutes direct Macau to Kong Kong Int. Airport. You would only do it if you just missed one of the 4 departure times for the direct TurboJet.
Transportation Options from Hong Kong International Airport to Macau
(updated 10/07/03)
Helicopter Service
Helicopter service to Macau is available every 30 minutes from 0930 - midnight.
The one-way fare is HKD 1400 on weekdays and HKD 1500 on weekends. The
trip is approximately 15 minutes.
That would be daring. :duno:
Without giving too much away on the next Leg it will be testing for the teams.
And yes, I am sure you have picked up on the bungy (I personally hate bungy jumps and don't understand why anyone would want to do it unless they are racing for $100,000). I'll eat bugs, stinky tofu and I'll happily do a flying fox and things like that but I'm not keen on bungy.
Anyway, this next Leg is quite long and will also get a little emotional for the Teams. Hong Kong was fun but Macau was testing.
In this next leg the choices teams make will be crucial - more so than usual.
And, of course, the pressure will be squarely on Ida and Tania, no doubt about that. It will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure.
There is clearly no love lost between Geoff and Tisha and Henry and Bernie after THAT yield. Henry and Bernie will need to put that behind them and re-group this week.
A.D. and Fuzzie are still walking their way through the Race. Amazing really. I think they have raced really well. Very consistent and not many viewers picked them to go this far. So congrats A.D. and Fuzzie.
Vince and Sam benefited from a home town advantage in Hong Kong. I think the fast forward in Taiwan proved crucial because it gave them a solid head start into Hong Kong. So it has turned out to be an important FF, especially with Hong Kong backing into Macau. But they might find it tougher now.
Enjoy!

Actually one of my absolute favourite locations comes up towards the very end of this series so more on that another time.
The colored bathing huts are in Cape Town, aren't they? And TARA went to Cape Town--did we ever see those?
http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Colorful-Bathing-Huts-Cape-Town-South-Africa-Posters_i1688217_.htm ???
The water buffalo could be from last season's task couldn't it?
I assumed both of those were old.
hello gud morning to all. may i join this forum(Thread)?? im really addicted to tara... and even though im just 16 yrs old.. i really want to join tara if i have a chance hehehe...
im so hooked up with this show.. every time i watch it.. it makes me wanna join the race hhahaha..
im form the philippines and i hope im welcome here...
How long does each team have to wait in line in order to jump? 15 minutes?
If 15 minutes, then it's like this:
10:00AM, Geoff jumps
10:15AM, Tisha jumps
10:30AM, Sam jumps
10:45AM, Vince jumps
11:00AM, Fuzzie
11:15AM, A.D.
11:30AM, Bernie
11:45AM, Henry
(http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4994/shoeshadowis5.th.jpg) (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shoeshadowis5.jpg)
12 noon, Ida jumps
12:15PM, Tania jumps
So it's not an equalizer. Ida & Tania are 2 hours behind.
Leg 9 Cochin to East Africa?? either NEL or TBC
Leg 10 East Africa?? to Muscat, Oman Elim, 3 teams remain
Leg 11 Muscat, Oman to Finale, location unknown possibly back to Thailand

Thoughts? Ideas? Spoilers?
Thank you so much for doing that--I know we have had all this info since June/July but it really helps to see it again.Peach, the answer has not changed. It is "I don't know" but I would certainly suspect they could because most airlines are able to ticket for most other airlines(although not some budget airlines). I don't think Geoff/Tisha are as stupid as they would appear if they fly to Delhi without investigating the SilkAir flight. In terms of the race, it will probably not matter as all teams are likely to find an hours of operation restriction when they get to Cochin. Teams arriving at 0230 will just get less sleep.
Is there any way an AirIndia agent could ticket the Silk Air flight?
Oh, and one more:peach, you have succeeded in asking me a question I already know the answer to. I looked at how teams would get to Kenya/Tanzania from Cochin. The answer is via Dubai(which is right next to Oman). That effectively decouples that Cochin to Dubai segment. In other words, all of the conclusions in my post addressing this subject apply. See above.
Is it easier to go Cochin-Oman-Tanzania-wherever
OR
Cochin-Tanzania-Oman--wherever?
Assuming we are lucky enough to get to go to Tanzania which remains spec?
We can't rule out the helicopter here yet.
Chateau is working on getting us some times at the Macau Tower so hopefully that will help. :yess:
So, make it easy for me?
It is therefore easier to go Cochin--Oman--Tanzania? And we can get them back to Finale Asian City without too much grief from there?
99% of me believe that Sam and Vince won this year (the other 1% is still hoping it was Geoff and Tish) because of the Sony Cybershot commercial the two did. The same thing happened last year with Collin and Adrian despite earlier denials from AXN when the ad came out.
Sony is a major sponsor of the race, with their cameras in use throughout. They also provided some of the prizes for the winners of several legs. Having said all that, why would they pick a non-winning tandem to endorse their product?
If indeed this speculation is turns out to be true, it's okay with me. At least it was not the sister act of Henrietta and Bernie!!!
:wohoo:
You could be up, suited, jumped and on your way in 30-45 minutes easily,
provided no lines, etc.
Changing room is big, but only one jump at a time. Getting hooked up, jumping,
and unhooked takes most of that time.
From the front door, you have to go downstairs, cross a decent sized tunnel, an
catch the elevator up. From hitting the front door, moving quickly, and knowing
exactly where to go an assuming elevator was waiting for you, you could be up
top ready to change in 15 minutes I say. Rest of time to suit up, jump, get
unhooked and not dawdle.
Once down, getting unhooked and off the mat, plus reeling the line back up, 5-8
minutes?
ALSO: Paying extra few bucks for premium seating on hydrofoil critical. They let
premium berth FULLY disembark before standard.
Thank you for your email enquiry.
The helicopter just flies from Macau to the Hong Kong Shun Tak Centre. You may choose to take the helicopter or by ferry from Macau to Hong Kong and then by airport express to the Hong Kong airport. Please visit the following link for your information:

Peach, technically there are differences between hydoroils and Tubo-Jets. However, sometimes ferry builders incorporate parts of both. Such as in Hong Kong/Macau, where the "turbo-jets" going from Macau to Hong Kong airport look like this:
Hong Kong Area Turbo-Jet fleet (http://www.turbojetseaexpress.com.hk/eng/home/index.asp)
To me, that looks a lot like a hydrofoil even though it technically isn't.
The lead they desire? Odd phrasing if it is G&T, as they are already in the lead... ???"Lead they desire" to me suggests Ida and Tania who need a win to avoid their penalty. It could refer to AD and Fuzzie who haven't won yet, but they don't seem too fazed, as long as they aren't last they are happy...

The bathing huts are Cape Town: a suburb called Muizenberg (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=muizenberg,+south+africa&ie=UTF8&ll=-34.106563,18.474986&spn=0.002536,0.005622&t=h&z=18).

That's cricket they are playing, right?
:jumpy: got it! Matched the cricket to Nehru Stadium wicket in Pune :yess:Good job Boingo!!
That's nice, Boingo but Pune is 1221 km (757 miles) from Cochin. What reason would justify taking teams on an additional plane ride just to play cricket in Pune? This makes no geographic sense.:noway: Yes Boingo, do tell :gva:

Well it is definitely a match so they are there... "ours is not to reason why..."
thank you for saving me from one more minute in a cricket pitch--never liked that game anyway!
Great job Boingo! :yess:
so can we match the orange turbans and the pink autorickshaws there too? there too?

Next week's episode is one of my favourites of the series. I do hope you like that one too.
Nice work! :yess: The wikitravel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Pune) page suggests that flying into Pune might be a problem because of the shared military use.
On a slightly different subject, I came across this "amazing race for the clinically insane (http://rickshawchallenge.com/)" while looking through autorickshaws. :js:
In keeping with the idea that this is possibly the most demanding TAR yet, I bet they travel by train.zackattach308, I too bet they travel by train. However, I would like to offer an antidote to your facetious remark about expecting groping in trains. I traveled for 8000 km around India in second class, usually sleeper compartments on their trains. I never saw a gropnig incident in over 3 weeks and there were plenty of obvious Americans and Europeans to serve as potential victims. The overcrowded spaces in local bus and train travel and that leads to the type of behavior you have witnessed on past Amazing Races. I don't expect to see that if ARA3 does go to Pune by long-distance train.
I mean, we haven't seen anyone get groped in years!
And when the day's fun is all done, it's time once again to race off to the airport to prepare for the teams to start the next leg!
What is that thing in the middle--a statue of ganesh? :duno:

Mahatma Phule Mandai is situated in the center of Pune City. Because of its location this place is often used for meetings, Conferences, starting point for the Ganesh festival procession etc. This market is well known for getting fresh vegetables, fruits and articles for the Poojas
okay, I had to go get my notes!
I have a friend from Mumbai who is familiar with the area, and he kindly looked at the preview with me today.
He know of NO reason why the Pune airport would be a problem, but said that it is only 1.5-2 hours drive max to Mumbai, so any ongoing International flight would prob use that airport.
He looked at this picture and immediately said that is not Pune because the buses look different.
Perhaps back in Kochi, or we wondered if maybe even Mumbai??
Who's good at the buses?
No, it is definitely Pune. ;) Except maybe that one picture may be elsewhere.
Just maybe they fly out of Pune using the Mumbai airport next time?
"The season finale will air on November 20, 2008,"contradicting that summary statement for that wikipedia entry that says Nov. 23, 2008 and is probably a grave error.
But you know what? I am just not ready to give up my faith in the Intro caps.
To the best of our knowledge, both the Cape Town bathing huts and the resort in Muscat are new. And I don't ever remember in TAR or TARA them giving us NEW screencaps that we never see. We do see OLD ones reused to confuse us, and that's part of the fun.

Did you see what looks like a man racing on a horse in the intro? I don't recall horses being used in the past seasons of TARA. In this season perhaps?
wow thanx for the preview banzai!! hehehe..
im wondering y the other are w8ing for ad and fuzzie. what could that be??

The others prpbably had to wait for operating hours. I think AD and Fuzzie just caught up with the rest despite starting the leg last.

On the 1st day, Sam got a red T-shirts.
On the 2nd day, Sam, the driver, got a light blue T-shirts.
So this task is on the 1st day. The sun is setting.
2nd day, in the morning. Hours of operation again.

2nd day, Sam got a clue.
The afternoon sunlight on the 1st day is orange.
The morning sunlight on the 2nd day is soft white.
^I meant the pics were taken on the same day. Not separately on the afternoon of first day for first pic and morning of second day for second pic.
They had to wait till the next day to perform the task and so gave AD and Fuzzie the chance to catch up.
Wouldn't it make sense if these were all taken in one day. The Geoff and Tish pic may have been taken during the early morning and the Sam and Vince pic later at about noon time. If these were taken during the second day maybe that's how AD and Fuzzie were able to catch up.
Where did the clue BOX go, banzai?? :funny: I thought it looked odd..
I want to trace the logistics timing for getting to Oman from Pune. Teams reach the Pune pitstop from about 1030 to 1130 a best I reckon. They should be released 12 hours later, but it is possible that it is an extended pitstop. They should be released 2230 to 2330 if I am roughly correct. The next Pune to Mumbai train for the leading teams is departing 2330 arriving Mumbai CST 0345. The one after departs 0040 arriving at 0450. In both cases it is slightly more than 4 hours. Teams then have to make their way to any task that they must do in Mumbai. Then they must hurry to the airport for a BOM BAH GF57 0725 0850, connecting in Bahrain to BAH MCT GF552 0950 1220.
One question you have to ask is why teams would want to take the train. They could have waited at Pune airport for the PNQ BOM IT3171 0600 0635. The only reason I can thnk of is a task in central Mumbai.
Banzai,
Here are the Mumbai to Muscat flight options:
WY806 0645 0745 - clearly the best if teams can get to Mumbai airport in time; not included previously because reasonable flight connection from Pune not possible
GF057 / GF552 - shown previously; this gets in at 1220
IT3127 / WY876 - 1200 1345 BOM JAI connecting with 1450 1550 JAI MCT
That's it. Any other possibilities are essentially just variations of the second or third combinations above.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/250/hoursofoperation2jt0.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hoursofoperation2jt0.jpg)(http://img99.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif) (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
Since we have two hours of operations, one of them has to be in India. If both of them are in Oman, then it doesn't make sense.
Oh okay thanks! But are there any information that they will be flying back to Thailand for finale?
And i can't believe they only went to 2 continents this season. I was thinking could it be that TAR had to fly to less prominent places for the last few legs to ensure that they keep spoilers down to the minimal as possible?
Did Geoff and Tisha win The Amazing Race 3? Are rumors circulating in the forums correct? With a little over ten days to go before the conclusion of this year's Amazing Race Asia 3, speculations are running wild on who will end up winning. There are four teams left in the competition - Geoff and Tisha from the Philippines, Vince and Sam from Hong Kong, Ida and Tania from Malaysia, and AD and Fuzzie from Sinagpore - and they all have equal chances of winning. Ad and Fuzzie, though, have a little disadvantage as they have a 30 minute penalty going into the penultimate leg. But, as Ida and Tania have shown two episodes ago, this is no hindrance.
My initial speculation was that Vince and Sam are going to win by virtue of their Sony ad that came out two weeks ago. This was the pattern last season with Adrian and Collin. They came out in a Sony (major sponsor of the race) TV ad several weeks before the airing of the finale, and eventually ended up as the winners. I was 99% sure of my prediction until Henry and
Bernie, the other team from Malaysia who were eliminated two weeks ago, came out in another Sony ad last Thursday. Ha, so much for my 99%! He he. I'm not saying Vince and Sam aren't the winners this season. They might still turn out to be the winners with AXN just purposely derailing our speculation with that Sony ad of Henry and Bernie. However, I am now placing my money on another team.
Geoff and Tisha from the Philippines have gradually improved their teamwork and tactics in recent weeks. After languishing in the middle standings in the first half of the season, they surged to the top with successive wins in Macau and India, seemingly serving notice to the other racers that they were shifting gears and getting serious with the game. Their use of the 'Yield' on Henry and Bernie in Macau, and the 'U-Turn' on Ad and Fuzzie in India last week were controversial but nevertheless good tactical moves. With two legs to go, my guess is that they'll turn the heat up further and win it all (barring any mishap). However, things may change if, and only if, they get 'yielded' or 'u-turned' by the other teams. Since they've used these two 'penalties' to their advantage earlier, the other teams may work together to get back at them and this may play a big part in the final results (they may even get eliminated next). But if no yield or u-turn turns up in the remaining episodes, or if Geoff and Tisha get to the yield or u-turn ahead of the others, it will be a win for the Filipino tandem.
One interesting spoiler came out in the forums recently. Though this did not influence my speculation on the race results above, it is worth discussing here. Apparently, on a recent episode of the local talk show Hardball, one of the hosts slipped and congratulated Tisha. Actually, Jinno Rufino was reportedly greeting Tisha for her birthday last week then segued into some sort of congratulations before abruptly screeching to a halt followed by the words "oops". Though no mention was made about the Amazing Race Asia, audiences concluded that Jinno was congratulating Tisha for winning the race after his co-hosts reprimanded him for the slip up. "Geoff, if something goes wrong, you know who to blame," said one. Bill Velasco, another host of the show, reportedly added, "That is why they call it a non-disclosure clause."
With this, audiences concluded that Geoff and Tisha are the winners of the race. I am, however, quite apprehensive about arriving to such a conclusion based on what happened on Hardball. For one, Hardball is a taped talk show. Though I did not see this particular episode, as far as I know, they don't broadcast LIVE. Having said that, if it was indeed a slip up, it would have been edited. I think the guys in the show were just goofing off and teasing their friends Geoff and Tisha, as well as their viewers who are Amazing Race Asia 3 fanatics. Friends do that all the time.
But what if it really is true. What if Jinno et al "know" that Geoff and Tish are the winners of the race, not because the two told them, but because they read it in their actions. You know what I mean. Sometimes, we can "read" our friends' innermost thoughts (and secrets) by the way they move or talk, or especially by the way they try to deny something. Sometimes we just have this gut feeling that eventually turns out to be correct. What if it's that's the case here? Hmm.
Whatever it is, I hope they're right. I hope Geoff and Tisha are the winners of this year's Amazing Race Asia. They've worked so hard at it, using all the resources available to them to gain advantage over the other teams. They deserve to win.
My fearless forecast: Winners - Geoff and Tish, followed by Sam and Vince and Ida and Tania.
Yea i know Oman is in Asia, that's why i was just shocked they didn't move over to Europe like last season...
But when were we there before? ???
Yea i know Oman is in Asia, that's why i was just shocked they didn't move over to Europe like last season...
Yeah, and I just reacted to your statement of two continents. But nevertheless, this might be like season 1 again, staying in Asia only.
I don't think we are finishing in Thailand this season. Or possibly even in Asia. Allan clearly mentioned at the start line that this was a race through Asia "and beyond". This week is Leg 10, and an Oman visit means we can't be leaving Asia until Week 11 - the final. Plus, if I have my numbers right, the current route, plus from Pune to Oman to Thailand, are nowhere near what we need to make the total stated in the promotional material. We'd have to be finishing in either North America, or the southern coast of Australia somewhere.

Yes, this is a trend. Do not root for Ida/Tania. Root for Geoff/Tisha. Please.I'm predicting the second all-female team to win the Amazing Race Asia. I have nothing to base it on.
Hmm...isn't it funny how I don't particularly ROOT for any of the TARasia f/f teams, and now there is a possibility of F/F teams being 2 for 3 in winning?

from the AXN site
I want to go through an analysis of timing in Oman to see how that affects which flight teams might get. Here it is:
before Nizwah fort is essentially irrevelant due to Hours of Operation
enter Nizwah Fort 700am
Mutrah Souq 715am
Carpet or Count It take about 1 hour 815am
Wadi Tanuf 1045am
Ida/Tania reach pitstop 1100am
Geoff/Tisha reach pitstop 1115am
Sam/Vince finish after 4 hour penalty 0330pm
Assume a 12 hour pitstop, that releases teams at:
Ida/Tania 1100pm
Geoff/Tisha 1115 pm
Sam/Vince 0330am
With a minimum 2.5 hour drive back to the Muscat Airport, the earliest teams can arrive is:
Ida/Tania 0130am
Geoff/Tisha 0145am
Sam/Vince 0600am
Here is my main finding: Sam/Vince will not be able to catch the 540am or 610am flights from Muscat in the direction of Bangkok. Ida/Tania and Geoff/Tisha can do so easily and should get the combination Qatar Airways 171 MCT DOH 0610 0635, connecting with Qatar Airways 610 0800 1830, arriving at 630pm. They should also be able to catch EK867 MCT DXB 0500 0550 connecting with EK418 DXB BKK 0905 1805. If the final destination is Koh Samui, they will fly Bangkok to there on PG187 19:35 21:05 BKK USM and arrive at 905pm. If it is to Koh Chang or Phuket, then they will have to overnight at Bangkok to catch the first morning plane (09:00 10:05 BKK TDX PG301 if Koh Chang or PG271 08:10 09:30 BKK HKT.
The earliest Sam/Vince can arrive is EK6479 MCT DXB 1335 1440(there are also equivalent earlier flights) connecting with TG522 DXB BKK 1755 0505+1. The flights they can catch are from Bangkok to:
Koh Chang/Trat 09:00 10:05 BKK TDX PG301
Koh Samui PG123 08:15 09:20 BKK USM
Phuket PG271 08:10 09:30 BKK HKT

During the race, some of the tasks need to pick one team member to do it alone (which mean Roadblock), they can decide which one to do it based on what the clue had said. Although they have different strength , but it's actually hard to make the decision. "Once, the clue said that it needs to swim, so we chose Vince, but it turned out the task also involved mental part; And another time, the clue said something about cat, I love cat, so i got to do that, but i found out ...the task was requesting to move a bunch of cats.(it said "more than ten", i guess it's about 30-80)",Sam said.

Michael, how well do you do in mathematics? My system of counting F/F teams in the ARA3 stops at one. Are you saying that this team is so good that it has 4 times the probability of either Geoff/Tisha or Sam/Vince (what is necessary to make Ida/Tania's probability of winning 2/3)?

Michael, how well do you do in mathematics? My system of counting F/F teams in the ARA3 stops at one. Are you saying that this team is so good that it has 4 times the probability of either Geoff/Tisha or Sam/Vince (what is necessary to make Ida/Tania's probability of winning 2/3)?
If you count Geoff as a girl then Michael's numbers work
I think what he actually means though is that if I/T win this time, then a FF team have won 2 out of the 3 TARA seasons.
Go Ida and Tania :jumpy: :hearts: :wohoo:

haha, yup Mrs Shrek, that is what I meant :jam:
I want to go through an analysis of timing in Oman to see how that affects which flight teams might get. Here it is:
before Nizwah fort is essentially irrevelant due to Hours of Operation
enter Nizwah Fort 700am
Mutrah Souq 715am
Carpet or Count It take about 1 hour 815am
Wadi Tanuf 1045am
Ida/Tania reach pitstop 1100am
Geoff/Tisha reach pitstop 1115am
Sam/Vince finish after 4 hour penalty 0330pm
Muttrah souq is in Muscat while Wadi Tanuf is 20 kms. beyond Nizwa so you'll have to adjust your time schedule. Nizwa is about 1.5 hours drive from Muscat
Now that I have seen the ep.10 video, I need to make minor adjustments to my analysis of timing in Oman to see how that affects which flight teams might get. Here it is:
Assume a 12 hour pitstop, that releases teams to start ep. 11, the Finale, at:
Ida/Tania 250am
Geoff/Tisha 300am
Sam/Vince 730am
However, there is an walk camels in the desert task that will take an unknown amount of time to get to and do it. Assume that the total of those is 1 hour.
With a minimum 2.5 hour drive back to the Muscat Airport, the earliest teams can arrive is:
Ida/Tania 620am
Geoff/Tisha 630am
Sam/Vince 1100am
Why is it that only Geoff and Tisha are featured in the newsletter and not all three teams?Oh god, I hope this isnt another spoiler! First AD,Fuzzies caltex spilled the beans on epi 10, now G/T in ep11?
They are back to Thailand.
So far the spoilers i've heard's that Sam/Vince will win because of the Sony Ad. Adrian and Collin had an ad last year and they won, this year Sam/Vince had the ad too. But this theory was later proved wrong when Henry and Bernie's ad came out too.
Another one which i've heard is that Geoff and Tisha won. They both went on air onto some radio broadcasting show on live and the host of the show accidentally let it slip that they won and "Congratulated" them. However, this can be the host of the show playing up and lying too.
Imagine Ida and Tania winning. That would make me love TAR Asia so much more!!! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Close ups of Andrew's wonderful picture! :jumpy: :ty3: :jumpy:

Are you clairvoyant, GeorgiaPeach? How did you know the top two teams so early? :cmas0
