I'm wondering if the news is not something planned by TPTB, but an emergency contact to one of the teams.
I don't think we've ever had this happen on TAR, although there have been a couple of instances on Survivor, and on Big Brother. (I'm remembering the post 9/11 news to Monica on BB 2 that her cousin was among the missing at Ground Zero/WTC in Manhattan.) I can't think of any other reason to mention just one team in the press release.
