Word has it the contestants began arriving at 3am with instructions to go to the top of the main lighthouse for their next clue.
There was a flurry of activity at the bike hire shop - where employees had also been silenced - and lots of running around Rotto streets, said onlookers.
The Rottnest Tearooms (http://rottnesttearooms.com/) were charged with feeding the hungry visitors lunch, serving up biscuits, drinks and meat and salad rolls.
"It was pretty exciting", a tearoom spy said. "One of them ran around the back and asked our head chef where Fremantle Prison (http://www.fremantleprison.com.au/tours/tours14.cfm) was."
Being shrewd, IC figured this must be the nest destination
and called the prison for the lowdown. It too had been gagged but Monday's public notices seem to confirm the story - a small item declared the prison would be closed on Wednesday for filming.

This mornings papers up here in Darwin said that the latest series of TAR was being filmed here. Contestants arrived Thurs night and rushed through the airport then yesterday they filmed at the Crocodile Park (all they do there is feed the snapping handbags and have animals on display so I guess there is a challenge to feed them (usually a chicken on a string off a pole). After this the paper said the contestants were then rushed off to another secret location. If they arrived late Thur night then they have either flown in from somewhere in asia or Melb or Syd (only international flights come in from Brunei, Indonesia or Singapore).

DID we see contestants from The Amazing Race in Adelaide?
Onlookers at Adelaide Airport on Sunday wondered what all the fuss was about when a desperate-looking couple attempted to book a capacity Singapore Airlines flight.
They also happened to be young, good-looking Americans carrying only backpacks, with a TV crew filming their every move.
They had boarding passes for a flight to Sydney, and after being told the Singapore Airlines flight was full, they ran back to the domestic terminal (bet they're wishing the new terminal was in operation).

Okay, I have lurked on this board for a few years and this is my first attempt at a spoiler.
My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.

I did some detective work and called Red Rocks. I should not have bothered, the Red Rocks Online (http://www.redrocksonline.com/00_news/00_news_detail.tml?id=232) website practicly gives it away and the gal I talked to paused when I mentioned TAR by name. Then just repeated it was closed for a "private function" from 6am to noon.

That's interesting info if the article is accurate; the TAR9 eligibility sheet (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race_application/eligibility.pdf) had finals this month with the race run in Nov.

My Dad's an idiot.
As a lot of you know, my Dad's a producer for the Amazing Race, and he owns a risk management company for the entertainment industry.
He also served for 18 years in UK Special Forces. He worked for a number of years in Intelligence Analysis and Information Security, advising senior military and political figures. He's also got an MBE and three Emmy Awards for his work in the Race.
People say he's a genius. But I beg to differ. When my Dad and I are out together, he's a complete random idiot. I often end up punching him in the arm to shut him up, but he gets great joy in attempting to wind me up. So, I caught him on tape.

There's a picture on pg 3B from today's Denver Post of AR filming at DIA. The caption reads:

Anyway...the Denver Post had a picture and caption in the Denver and the West section today showing a CBS crew filming (the backs of) two female racers yesterday in the Denver airport. The caption really didn't say much other than that CBS was currently filming the ninth version of The Amazing Race. I tried to find it online, but looks like it was only in the print version.

Having a bit of fun speculating here:
If the Finale for TAR9 is set up to end during May sweeps, could we assume that would either May 23 or May 30?
There are 4 Tuesdays each in March and April and 5 Tuesdays in May. Based on 13 legs - TAR9 would have to start on Mar 14 since the Finale is 2 legs. However, since there is sometimes a two-leg episode during most seasons, it could start Mar 21.

Well, the DIA photo is there somewhere: on the right side of the Denver Post page there's a link to the electronic edition. The article is listed under a 7-day search but you have to subscribe to view it. Maybe there's a library or Borders or something that carries the Post.

After a second look, it's both; a luggage strap that obscures some writing on her left sleeve (which both women share).

As far as the bagtag goes, I'll stick with 2. (Not that it matters much; I've never found a correlation between a team's number and what happens on the race. I think it's just a logistics thing--keeping the gear organized, etc.)
There's some writing on both their sleeves but I can't make it out. Considering the love-butt label, it's probably a personal slogan rather than some designer logo.

Unfortunately, it's a one-trick pony. The Post offered the option of downloading the 08 Nov issue as a pdf file, which clocked in at 53+ mb (and even then, there are limits; see the photog's wristwatch below). Too bad most other sources don't have the same depth of detail.

This article was featured in Inside Cover of The West Australian on Thursday, 24 November 2005. The West Australian is a mainstream newspaper in Perth, Australia. I don't know if this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but the whole thing does sound plausible.

Our very own Rottnest and Fremantle starred in the American television series The Amazing Race yesterday with camera crews and contestants dashing around like, well, Americans on a TV show.
Whispers reached IC that some non-schoolie visitors landed on the isle early yesterday and businesses were roped in to smooth the way for the crew and competitors.
Clearly the Rottnest Island Authority was ordered not to prattle to pesky media about the exciting event and issued a "no comment" to IC - a surefire confirmation of the rumour.
The Seven Network, which screens the popular series, was left out of the loop and had no idea WA was a destination for the show, which follows teams as they chase clues in a race around the world.
Luckily for us, a team of backpack toting Americans running around, shouting at each other and being chased by cameras on a small island is a little hard to hide.
Word has it the contestants began arriving at 3am with instructions to go to the top of the main lighthouse for their next clue.
There was a flurry of activity at the bike hire shop - where employees had also been silenced - and lots of running around Rotto streets, said onlookers.
The Rottnest Tearooms were charged with feeding the hungry visitors lunch, serving up biscuits, drinks and meat and salad rolls.
"It was pretty exciting", a tearoom spy said. "One of them ran around the back and asked our head chef where Fremantle Prison was."
Being shrewd, IC figured this must be the nest destination
and called the prison for the lowdown. It too had been gagged but Monday's public notices seem to confirm the story - a small item declared the prison would be closed on Wednesday for filming.

Rottnest is just offshore from Perth; here (http://www.australienguiden.se/images/rottnest_map.gif) is a map and here (http://www.flyweb.ch/australien/wa_rottnest_island.htm) are some pictures of the island and the local "quokkas," which look like giant furry rats. :cheeky:. Fremantle and the prison are southern suburbs. The west australian, like the denver post, uses an electronic edition, so it may be difficult pulling up the original article.

My partner is in Darwin this week on business, and she reports that the Amazing Race has been shooting there on Friday 25/11. (So I was not surprised to see Western Australia as a shooting location on Wednesday/Thursday!).
The local newspaper, the NT News, confirmed this (in their usual unsubtle style!) on their front page this morning (see ntnews.news.com.au/common...,00.html).
"The Amazing Race teams were rushed through Darwin airport to SkyCity hotel casino on Thursday night and yesterday morning they are believed to have filmed scenes at Darwin's Crocodylus Park before being whisked to a secret location."
There is a scheduled Qantas flight from Perth that arrives in Darwin at 7:10pm Thursday, so this would fit with the timing noted in the report. Crocodylus Park would be an interesting location, having a wide variety of native and imported animals and a particularly large range of crocodiles (and without Steve Irwin!).
The secret location is an interesting one, but I'd be surprised if they went too far out of Darwin given the relative position within the race. The next question of course, is when did/do they leave Darwin?
Given that Cairns has previously featured in the Australian leg of the race, my bet is on the next leg moving north into Asia. Looking at the flights out of Darwin International Airport (based on their October schedule), other than a few flights to Indonesia and East Timor, there was a Qantas flight to Singapore out on Friday afternoon. This would be the choice for international connections, unless heading out via another Australian port (like Sydney or Brisbane). Incidentally, these would be the ports of choice if heading across the Pacific.

It makes sense; the Tunnels tour (http://www.fremantleprison.com.au/tours/tours14.cfm) or the Torchlight tour would be a natural TAR kind of thing. As far as getting there, the Rottnest Express (http://www.boattorque.com.au/) can take teams from Perth to Rottnest and also return them from the island to Fremantle.

DID we see contestants from The Amazing Race in Adelaide?
Onlookers at Adelaide Airport on Sunday wondered what all the fuss was about when a desperate-looking couple attempted to book a capacity Singapore Airlines flight.
They also happened to be young, good-looking Americans carrying only backpacks, with a TV crew filming their every move.
They had boarding passes for a flight to Sydney, and after being told the Singapore Airlines flight was full, they ran back to the domestic terminal (bet they're wishing the new terminal was in operation).
Channel 7 declined to comment on whether the couple was part of the travel-gameshow.

While Samantha was posting, I went back to look at the Denver photo and noticed something that was right in front of me the whole time >^%: sleeping bags, one packed neatly and one stuffed in the side (or maybe that's an empty sack). The family teams were given camping equipment, but does anybody remember any two-person teams starting the race with sleeping bags?

By now teams have a pretty good idea of what they will need. Those could be rolled foam sleeping mats not bags which would be great for the number of times that teams end up sleeping on the street or at a gate waiting for opening hours.
Also note that by now most teams are carrying a lot less gear than the teams did in TAR1 and 2; why haul all that junk around when you don't need that much to get by on.

They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.

Chataeu, What local time did you use for Giantsfan22's post? I'm central time and the post time was given as 9:08. An half hour before that is around 8:30 central which is 5:30? Alaska time. If tickets were available, wouldn't they have enough time to purchase the non-stop flights? The non-stops look to be the best flights by far, even if you depart Anchorage 5 hours earlier.

Begginning Nov 7 and ending Dec 2(or 3) is 27(or 28) days which is a little shorter but TAR 6,7, and 8 have all ended on a weekend.

I did some detective work and called Red Rocks. I should not have bothered, the Red Rocks Online website practicly gives it away and the gal I talked to paused when I mentioned TAR by name. Then just repeated it was closed for a "private function" from 6am to noon.

my brother-in-law said they were looking for Northwest but ended up going from there to Continental and back to Alaska Airlines. He assumed they ended up booking the flight through Alaska. Hope this helps.

It's 11:20 on the West Coast and this is what time it is at Sucks. So That 9:08 pm Sucks post was 7:08 pm Pacific Time and 6:08 pm Alaska time. Lopping off the half hour gives 5:38 pm Local time in Anchorage when the team was spotted.
So that's a big ol "Aye Concur" with Pedaler.
So they should have been able to get those non-stops (as noted above) after all. I guess they were just shopping around at the other airlines to get the best flights.
That says they were under relatively light pressure to book right away.
Now there is this flight from Vegas into Colorado Springs at 2:35 am ...

EP5: Moscow to Perth, Australia (newspaper)
EP6: Perth to Darwin, Australia (newspaper)
EP7: Darwin to Adelaide, Australia (sighting)
EP8: Adelaide to Singapore
EP9: Singapore to Lopburi, Thailand (masks)
EP10: Lopburi to Tokyo (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)

I think the route's pretty close, but again there will undoubtedly be some variations and other destinations.

Amazing Race 9 spotted inside and outside the continental United States
Production began last month on The Amazing Race 9, and there’s good news for everyone who thinks this current season has been a North and Central America-centric catastrophe. (Stop reading now if you consider location information to be a spoiler.)
The race has been spotted outside the US, specifically in northern Australia. The Northern Territory News reports that “teams were rushed through Darwin airport to SkyCity hotel casino on Thursday night and yesterday morning they are believed to have filmed scenes at Darwin’s Crocodylus Park before being whisked to a secret location.” That would have been on Nov. 24, Thanksgiving, and Nov. 25, the day the rest of us were assaulting our neighbors so we could save 35 cents on a DVD player.
A team was later spotted in Adelaide on Nov. 27 on their way to Sydney. The team, “young, good-looking Americans carrying only backpacks, with a TV crew filming their every move,” was spotted at the airport in Adelaide “attempt[ing] to book a capacity Singapore Airlines flight,” according to The Advertiser. “They had boarding passes for a flight to Sydney, and after being told the Singapore Airlines flight was full, they ran back to the domestic terminal….”

There's nothing quite like being on vacation, driving down a street and seeing someone holding a very familiar yellow and black clue envelope bearing the words "The Amazing Race". Squeeee!
Here's what we saw:
Ottawa, Ontario (Canada), on November 5th at 3:20 pm. At the corner of Rideau and Sussex, we almost ran down some twit walking into the road against the light. He was wearing a brown trench coat (possibly oiled canvas) and a brown leather hat with one side turned up, and was holding a classic Yellow and Black TAR clue envelope. My fiance thinks he saw someone with this guy, but I don't remember a film/sound setup at all. Plus it didn't look like he was wearing a backpack. But... that envelope is unmistakable.
This is right near Byward Market, so maybe a task there? Fiance says the guy was moving fast.

AAAND THE OTHER DAY BUCKO, DID YOU HEAR, THE AMAZING RACE PEOPLE WERE IN PERTH?!?!?! My mum's friend saw all these people running through the international airport, and then she heard from someone else that they went to Rottnest that day, and then they were at Fremantle Prison, and then they left throught he national airport and went to Darwin. WHY IS EVERYOEN GOING TO DARWIN?!?YUCK YUCK

Word has it the contestants began arriving at 3am with instructions to go to the top of the main lighthouse for their next clue.
There was a flurry of activity at the bike hire shop - where employees had also been silenced - and lots of running around Rotto streets, said onlookers.
The Rottnest Tearooms (http://rottnesttearooms.com/) were charged with feeding the hungry visitors lunch, serving up biscuits, drinks and meat and salad rolls.
"It was pretty exciting", a tearoom spy said. "One of them ran around the back and asked our head chef where Fremantle Prison (http://www.fremantleprison.com.au/tours/tours14.cfm) was."
Being shrewd, IC figured this must be the nest destination
and called the prison for the lowdown. It too had been gagged but Monday's public notices seem to confirm the story - a small item declared the prison would be closed on Wednesday for filming.

This mornings papers up here in Darwin said that the latest series of TAR was being filmed here. Contestants arrived Thurs night and rushed through the airport then yesterday they filmed at the Crocodile Park (all they do there is feed the snapping handbags and have animals on display so I guess there is a challenge to feed them (usually a chicken on a string off a pole). After this the paper said the contestants were then rushed off to another secret location. If they arrived late Thur night then they have either flown in from somewhere in asia or Melb or Syd (only international flights come in from Brunei, Indonesia or Singapore).

Okay, I have lurked on this board for a few years and this is my first attempt at a spoiler.
My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.

I did some detective work and called Red Rocks. Then just repeated it was closed for a "private function" from 6am to noon.

Emporis (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=131561) is a good database for checking out skyscrapers. If the tip is genuine, then Woodside might be a pit stop, or like mwooden said, some kind of window-washing or rappelling task.
Another example from Emporis: if Phil does his stand-up for the premiere intro from a skyscraper, then it might be the Republic Plaza (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=121470)--he'd have a much harder time on the Wells Fargo Center (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=121447) ;D.

I have it on good authority (I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you) that Rome, Italy is on the roster for TAR9.
When they reach Rome, there will be nine teams remaining. There will be a task (not sure if it's a detour or a roadblock) where the racers have to put together a disassembled faux-Roman statue.

"[The Amazing Race 9] will be unique, one of the longest we've ever done," promises executive producer Bertram van Munster, noting that this edition will travel 70,000 miles in 28 days through five continents, including stops in Russia, Sicily, Greece and (for the first time) Oman. Last season's show barely left the States. "This one also has a lot of good laughs and some sexual tension, more than ever," van Munster says. "There's some stuff going on between the teams" which, he hints, could involve best friends Danielle Torchio and Danielle Turner, a pair of recent college grads from Staten Island. I can confirm that AR have been sited in Perth Western Australia in November, a friend works at the airport. There were about 4 teams noticed by staff. One of those teams has been given a fine because they had concealed food on them, they were trying to take chicken sandwiches off the airoplane.
Another team ( that had no money) was reprimanded for pushing to the front of the lines in customs.

Good call - I just threw Muscat in there because of all the pretty stuff. :js: You can just see the panoramic shots of that city now.
Actually, based on the air dates, it looks like we have all the episodes covered (counting the 1st 2 and the last 2 as one since they are 2 hour episodes). Big mysteries left w/ the route are 1) if the 2nd leg in Brazil/S. America is right and 2) where they came up with that mileage number. 60,000-70,000 miles is a TON. Regarding the picture posted earlier.
1. Why do they have plastic bags? Could they have been mugged by Phil?
2. They are clearling not in the US. Look at the sing. It reads something like Á.....ita. The Á is not used in the English language. But I think in Portuguese you use it. So maybe it was taken in Brasil.
3. And the guy in the background. That may gives us a clue from where it was taken.
I will have a look a the sign, and see what I find.

I dont know if I am being to picky. But I really dont think that the picture in the TV Guide and the preview are the same day. Look at the guy wearing the black shirt. In the TV Guide photo he has a black shirt on top of the black tshirt and has his dark eyeglasses. But in the picture in the car he does not have on the black shirt or the dark eyeglasses. Again dont think is the same day.
One more thing. This two guys have a blue backpack. This backpack is not seen on the TV Guide picture. What do you think?

Teams choosing to Schlep had to travel nearly two miles to a bookstore and deliver 180 books eight blocks to the Library of Congress to receive their next clue. Not wanting to buy the ingredients using their own money, both Ron & Kelly and Rob & Amber opted to Schlep books.

The only way I can get my DH to get off his DA is to start it myself -- then he feels guilty and starts helping. Besides the first thing I did was remove the old bathtub faucet and put a platform over the tub to reach high. Now he can't soak in the tub with a glass of wine until we get'r done! It's a great motivator!!!!

Now with a lead, Megan & Heidi jumped into a taxi as Brian & Greg stacked the last of the 180 books in the library to earn their clue, snagging a taxi as well. A disappointed Brian said, “One of us is going down. Let’s hope they had problems finding the ingredients.” As the two Teams neared Cerra Santa Lucia, they were shocked to spot each other in adjacent taxis in the gridlock traffic. Realizing their fate would be determined by a footrace, both Teams quickly darted from their cabs and ran the remaining few blocks to where Phil stood waiting. Chateau, do we have a start time estimate yet? From the length of the shadows in the Red Rock amphitheatre I would estiamte a mid morning start. If they go direct to Brazil we have several flights leaving around 4:00 or 5:00PM with intemediate stops in Chicago, Dallas or Houston. Best bets look like an AA flight leaving at 3:45PM with stop in Dallas and arriving in Sao Paulo (GRU) at 9:52AM the next morning. Uinted also has a flight leaving at 4:20PM connecting with the same AA flight in Dallas and arriving at the same time. United also has a flight leaving at 4:53PM through Chicago and connecting with Varig flight arriving at 12:00noon the next day. Best bets look like either United or AA (who have been sponsors in the past)

Apparently, Australia has aired different promos than in the US, and someone over in another forum, thinks he saw the Iguasu Fall in the preview.

"The promos for TAR here in Australia feature hang gliding and a couple in front of a waterfall which looks like the Iguasu Falls in Brazil which featured in TAR2. TAR2 also had hang gliding in Rio. Would they repeat tasks and locations?"

I was looking into the flights of choice. The equivalent date to check is November 6th, 2006. It's the first Monday of November, equivalent to November 7th 2005. If they get started between 9:00 and 9:22 am and drive for 45 min to Denver's airport then the flight to pick would be the one that goes from Miami to Sao Paulo arriving at 6:05 am. That flight takes off from Miami at 8:00 pm. To make that flight Teams would have to land at MIA around or before 7 pm. They should have three ways to do that if they can catch a flight leaving DEN at 10:40 am, 10:53, or 11:17 am. The last time is for yet another connection through Dallas Fort Worth.
The flights are cobbled below. To check this for sure I need to go to Airwise and the FAA site that has flight history for US flights.

I have it on good authority (I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you) that Rome, Italy is on the roster for TAR9.
When they reach Rome, there will be nine teams remaining. There will be a task (not sure if it's a detour or a roadblock) where the racers have to put together a disassembled faux-Roman statue

Take this FWIW - I was talking to someone who saw TAR being filmed in Perth, and they said they saw an old couple walking around Fremantle with a cameraman, sound guy etc. They speculate they were around 50-60yrs old. They think it was a male/female couple or possibly male/male (they aren't completely sure, as they only got a glimpse of them). They couldn't remember what clothes/colours they were wearing

Okay, I have lurked on this board for a few years and this is my first attempt at a spoiler.
My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.

I can confirm that AR have been sited in Perth Western Australia in November, a friend works at the airport. There were about 4 teams noticed by staff. One of those teams has been given a fine because they had concealed food on them, they were trying to take chicken sandwiches off the airoplane.
Another team ( that had no money) was reprimanded for pushing to the front of the lines in customs.

I'm suffering from serious wanderlust and 10-days-before-premiere boredom, so here's a list of countries TAR's hit before with cities/seasons. We might get a cap with the main intro next week. Thanks Banzai for the posting the conference call. It had some interesting things including reasons for a Lisai/Joni or David/Lori first elimination.
"I would say that there's no denying that the sisters get a hell of a shock in the first leg of this race. Every single season, every team without fail will say something to the effect of, "I've been watching the show but I had no idea what it was really like until I ran this leg myself." I think it shocked people and certainly with Joni, she was completely and utterly shocked by what she went through, and what was required to be in this race. These sisters are definitely sisters who have enjoyed luxury in their life and prefer that over roughing it, being in a tent and going three days without a shower."
"The nerdy dating couple [I think this is David & Lori] are so in love, kissing all the way through the first leg and more concerned with each other than making their way through the first leg. They met at a bar, I think. They're both people who are an online, geeky kind of couple. They feel like they found the right one. They're really adorable."

First thing that comes to mind about Joseph's location is Sicily, possibly near the ruins at Segesta. See view from Greek Theatre @ Segesta below. Very similar.

What's the clock at--4:25? This site (http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar.asp) puts sunset for Moscow (Nov 2005) at a quarter past 4 (roughly). That makes sense considering the extra lighting you can see in the photo. The race has started legs in mid-afternoon before, but it's a little unusual.
Assuming that's the Savior Tower (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/towers/Spaskaya/) with the clock, then I'll make a guess about the pitstop location (just south of Red Square).

In the preview St. Bailsals was shown in the dark so the leg was prolly late at night, and the last Russian leg went to real late at night also pretty sure teams i think from places 5-8 all checked in after midnight in St. Petersburg.

Colorful personalities hit road for the 'Amazing Race'

It's no secret that the Family Edition of "The Amazing Race" (9 tonight, WIVB-TV) was treated by critics and fans of the series like the relative nobody wants to sit next to at Thanksgiving dinner.
Its overall dullness was balanced in Western New York by a rooting interest for a Buffalo resident, Nick Linz, who was part of the winning family from Cincinnati.
Fortunately, the ninth installment of this Emmy-award winning, globetrotting series is back on course with a two-hour opener that is a triumph of casting. And make no mistake, casting is even more important now because watching teams get flustered when travel plans go awry and cab drivers get lost got a little old by about the fourth race.
This edition includes several inept and foolishly confident teams of two people that provides humor, color, romance (one couple does a lot of kissing) and suspense on the first leg of the trip from Denver to Sao Paulo, Brazil. There also is one fun-loving group of best friends from San Francisco who dress like hippies, online tutor BJ Averell and filmmaker Tyler MacNiven.
The frequent brave, but misguided attempts by teams trying to successfully pull off tasks that will make the trip shorter are among tonight's comic highlights. Of special note is the decision of the recent, attractive college graduates nicknamed the Double D's - Dani Torchio and Danielle Turner - to play motorcycle mechanics.
But Barry and Fran Lazuras, who have been married 40 years, also prove age doesn't necessarily lead to wisdom and can be a liability when eyesight is important. They don't have a clue when it comes to finding a clue box. A few teams in the competition pull a Lazuras and return from what appears to be almost certain death.
The preview tape supplied by CBS surprisingly included the final moment when the first team is eliminated, with the show's publicist asking critics to keep it a secret. No problem. I'll just say I was sorry to see a team as comically inept as this one get the boot so early.

Yeah, just put Rome there because of the "9 team" spoiler from Rome -- maybe that statue-assembling task with 9 people comes en route from Rome to Sicily. Like the first task of the day before moving on down to southern Italy. Rome is definitely a more likely Italian starting point than Sicily.

Knowing that we're not done in Brazil & that Russia comes next starts to lock up our route now. The Rome/Sicily/Greece legs might be interchangeable, but I'm putting Rome first because of the 9-team spoiler. I'm wondering if that spoiler might be just a little off though. If there were 8 teams left by then, that would make more sense. Maybe the "witness" saw extra supplies set up for the task, as has been the case before and assumed there were 9 teams. Unless we have an early NEL, which could mean there would still be 9 teams in Rome.

IIRC there was a market task in Dubai that was snipped out of the broadcast version by the editors; maybe now they'll finally get some of the frankincense-and-myrrh action I mentioned earlier.

Huh Alliance with the Dee's? that makes no sence Dee were first to the airport and the Forsties were i think 10th or 9th. I have a feeling the teams met with each other BEFORE the race becuase they did know each others name right off the bat.

Okay, I have lurked on this board for a few years and this is my first attempt at a spoiler.
My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines

I don't know if it's been covered here yet, but after reading some of the boards other than here, I've come across some speculative spoilers about the next eliminated team. If you rewatch ep3, there is an interview clip with Dave & Lori shown right as they are leaving the pitstop in Brotas, Brazil. I'm assuming this interview takes place at the pitstop in Germany, since they were still in their heavy winter clothes--and there obviously wasn't a pitstop in Moscow. Anyway...during the interview you'll notice Dave's eyes were downcast and he didn't seem too happy. Lori was saying that she and Dave hadn't done much traveling outside of the US, and spoke about how the race is a great way to see the world. Sounds like a post-elimination exit interview to me...and that's sad, really. I want to hope against hope that this isn't true, but interviews have been known to give away the eliminated team.

I really don't see Fran & Barry lasting so long to reach Australia, is it possible they were a decoy team and/or the article about them skydiving etc. is wrong?

I dont think Fran and Barry go far either. The team seen in australia was either two old males or a old male and female so there is deffibaly some stuff that can be confusing.
I think the best spotting Ever in AR5 even had a misunderstanding with the "sixth" blonde hair girl /guy team. [ironically the two teams that could have been were first and second eliminated]

Take this FWIW - I was talking to someone who saw TAR being filmed in Perth, and they said they saw an old couple walking around Fremantle with a cameraman, sound guy etc. They speculate they were around 50-60yrs old. They think it was a male/female couple or possibly male/male (they aren't completely sure, as they only got a glimpse of them). They couldn't remember what clothes/colours they were wearing.

I agree. I don't watch Survivor but I looked at the spoilers over at Sucks a season or two ago. She provided many accurate spoilers for that season of Survivor.
Based on their current race performance, it may seem incredible that Fran and Barry make it far. But as the race progresses, usually at least one team misreads a clue, gets lost, or has extraordinary bad luck.
Remember Puddin's faves during TAR7, M&G. They weren't considered "great" racers but they made it to the final four.

I can confirm that AR have been sited in Perth Western Australia in November, a friend works at the airport. There were about 4 teams noticed by staff. One of those teams has been given a fine because they had concealed food on them, they were trying to take chicken sandwiches off the airoplane.
Another team ( that had no money) was reprimanded for pushing to the front of the lines in customs.

so I'm listening to the insider with Wanda & De's ..a caller asks what their relationships were with Mo-Jo / RaYolanda / Franknberries because they never played that up during the show
De's says they didn't get to hang out with them outside the Brotas pitstop , particularly Mo-Jo they didn't get to hangout with at all , and they mention that they shared a few bus rides with RaYolanda but they really didn't get to know them that well .
They said they spent more time with the Danielle's than anyone else ( earlier they talked about how the 4 of them hooked up in Germany at the gas station ) and David & Lori so it varied .

In a Reality New online interview Wanda and Desiree said who they were close with.
Now they didnt say Danielle and Dani becuase they were mentioned in the question asking anyone besides them. but surprisingly they mentioned BJ and Tyler, Eric and Jeremy, and Dave and Lori.

Hey i know last season someone said Rob and Amber were going on a two week honeymoon and so forth could not have been on the Early Show for two weeks and meaning for those two episodes they were away they werent eliminated.
Now in MYSPACE someone posted on the 13th of March that the Dani's were going to Vegas in 23 Days. [now i didnt think it would be important becuase i figured they be out by now]. Now 23 days later is APRIL 5th [a WEDNESDAY] now unless they get eliminated this week, there would be no way for them to be on the Early Show April 5th [after the April 4th episdoe], unless The Early Show has a Vegas Special.
So if the Danielle's survive this week [and i think they should] they should be safe the week after that too right?? Now if its a non elimination then this would jsut be useless [but usually they dont have two non elims before the final six and i count Moscow as a non elim]

If its the Forth then that further proves the point becuase then they would leave for Vegas on Tues and have no way to be on the Early Show for Wed. I guess being from NY if the Vegas trip is later they could still make the Early Show that Weds [but lets face it thats doubtful]. And i would hope the Early Show has the eliminated teams ready to gome in advance. And like i said before there MYSPACE is made for their team and to root for them, that to me just screams they do good.[otherwise why make it if you sucked the whole race]
I am just saying with rombers wedding and not being able to be in NY for the Early show was a spoiler last season i dont know why i cant be this season with the Danielle's.

I was thinking the next non elimination would be Oman, just a huntch thinking its leg 8, if there are two legs in Sicily. its kind of early for two non elims anyway.

The description “young and good looking” was used in the Australia sighting above. The original sighting in Alaska makes no reference to “young and good looking”. That means that Giantsfan22 are messing with us. A person describing BJ and Tyler would not refer to their shoes nor their clothing – but most likely to their facial hair – their most distinctive feature (assuming they are dressed in ordinary clothes).

I'm pretty sure the jacket is from the bungee jump company per the logo on the back. Either it is staff or the teams wear the jacket while jumping. If it is a team member it can only be Eric, Lake or Jo. I started trying to match the shoes and ruled out Lake. He is always in "timberland" type boots. I'll have to check on Eric and Jo.

I have those same final 3 (and picked them before the first epi). Correct me if I'm wrong but the Alaska spoiler came out before the show aired and identified a team in grey sweaters and blue adidas, right? If so then the original spoiler is true and they saw E/J but the person later saying it was BJ and Tyler is just BS'ing?

This could be a fake spoiler but I don't think the original is. If it were completely made up was Alaska a coincidence? One thing is for sure, Jeremy's shoes would catch your attention. Who knows why giantsfan is changing the story -- misdirection?

Okay, the "young and good looking" quote actually came from a conversation I had with my sister, she said that's what he said that the lady who was talking to them said about them.
(sounds confusing, I know, welcome to my family)
I just talked to him again, I asked if he was sure it was the hippie dudes, he said he saw them mostly from behind, he was really busy at the time, but he's pretty sure it was them. He is going to ask the lady that talked to them tomorrow about them if he remembers. I will let you guys know what he says asap. Sorry for the confusion, I actually thought he was referring to the frat boys all along.

The weekly Hattiesburg newspaper article about Lake and Michelle had a couple of "semi-spoilerish" things so I thought I'd post in here. I don't know if the article is right with the hour long yeild since they screwed up the names but here it is:
For the first time in the race, teams were given an option to yield, and the Garners were the only team who opted to stop another team immediately. Thinking that they were neck-and-neck with the "pinks" team, the Garners "yielded" Dani and Michelle, forcing them to wait for an hour - and ultimately get the ax. However, with Ray and Yolanda behind, the Garners could have saved the "Yield" for later.

This could be a fake spoiler but I don't think the original is. If it were completely made up was Alaska a coincidence? One thing is for sure, Jeremy's shoes would catch your attention. Who knows why giantsfan is changing the story -- misdirection?

Okay, I have lurked on this board for a few years and this is my first attempt at a spoiler.
My brother in law works for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage, and about half an hour ago he saw 2 guys go running through the airport with a camera guy and a sound guy following them. The only description I could get out of him was that they were 2 dudes dressed alike in matching gray sweaters and blue Adidas shoes, mid 20's, and they were looking for Northwest Airlines. They spoke to a native Alaska woman in her 50's who also works there and said they were headed to Denver. They went first to Northwest counter, then Continental, then back to Alaska Airlines.
Last night I noticed that Ray and Yolanda were dresses in gray shirts ... Could someone mistake Yolanda for a man and not mention that the people were African-American?

The weekly Hattiesburg newspaper article about Lake and Michelle had a couple of "semi-spoilerish" things so I thought I'd post in here. I don't know if the article is right with the hour long yeild since they screwed up the names but here it is:
For the first time in the race, teams were given an option to yield, and the Garners were the only team who opted to stop another team immediately. Thinking that they were neck-and-neck with the "pinks" team, the Garners "yielded" Dani and Michelle, forcing them to wait for an hour - and ultimately get the ax. However, with Ray and Yolanda behind, the Garners could have saved the "Yield" for later.

Puddin, thanks for posting that article. That is great that the teams get to keep the money they get on each leg. Good souvenir to have. I don't why BJ and Tyler need to be more aerodynmic with those orange cordarounds on. They don't plan to fly do they?? Or does it make them get to the mat faster in a foot race? :snicker:

I can confirm that AR have been sited in Perth Western Australia in November, a friend works at the airport. There were about 4 teams noticed by staff. One of those teams has been given a fine because they had concealed food on them, they were trying to take chicken sandwiches off the airoplane.
Another team ( that had no money) was reprimanded for pushing to the front of the lines in customs.

Arguments for Eric and Jeremy: Dressed in ordinary clothes. More likely to be described in their mid20’s than BJ and Tyler.
Arguments against BJ and Tyler: No reference to beards. Unlikely to wear ordinary clothes.

The description “young and good looking” was used in the Australia sighting above. The original sighting in Alaska makes no reference to “young and good looking”. That means that Giantsfan22 are messing with us. A person describing BJ and Tyler would not refer to their shoes nor their clothing – but most likely to their facial hair – their most distinctive feature (assuming they are dressed in ordinary clothes).

First Turt says he/she saw 4 teams running past towards the prison. Later he/she says that he/she only saw 3 teams and that one of the teams came through in the morning and he/she had to ask another person who this 4th team was. How many teams did he/she actually see ? Why the discrepancy? It sound more and more like a fake spoiler to me - a little bit to convenient. So all three 3 teams would go to the same person in the same shoe store to ask for directions? What are the chances of that?

I've gotta say, that March 13 myspace comment on BJ's site by Christiane, the Australian beauty contestant, to me is the most interesting thing I've seen. This was posted by a real person with a name and from the other posts, you can confirm who she is. Also....the Miss Teen Australia pageant was held in Darwin from November 24 - 27. And the young lady on the plane was from Perth. Could she have met BJ on a flight from Perth to Darwin? Does this fit with the speculated timeline? To me, unless Ms. Christiane has her racers confused, it looks like the hippies are still in it in Australia. That would make me happy. And yes, this is my first post.

puddin, do you know if anyone saw the girl's comment on Tyler's site? It's still on BJ's but there's nothing on Tyler's and there are other comments from that same date. It seems that Tyler has been pretty good about editing things off of his site. He got rid of the E&J party pics pretty quickly that someone posted but BJ still has them on his.
Thanks for the information on the Aussie dates. Whoa, that does look like a possibility, doesn't it? Personally, I would take this myspace comment more seriously than sightings by a U/I person posting on a board. I'm still hoping she got her racers ID'd right and didn't confuse them with someone else. Pleeeease.

This sandy island, 12 miles off the coast of Fremantle has a population of about 200. It is also called home to small indigenous marsupials known as quokkas. These were mistakenly identified as rats in 1696 by the Dutch explorer de Vlamingh, who named the island 'Rats Nest'. They are actually very friendly, and will happily approach humans, although they are now so fearless they are almost a pest. The Rottnest settlement was established as a prison for Aborigines in 1838, but by 1920 the prison had fallen into disuse and the island had become an escape for the richer end of Perth society. For five years in WWII the island was dominated by the military, which used it to defend Fremantle Harbour, and fearing what had happened to Singapore huge guns were installed, however they were never used in anger.

Yup... got confirmation from ppl in Darwin about TAR being filmed up there on Sunday... so its good to see them back in Oz...

Hi, Alaska "shoe spoiler" here. Finally got my brother in law to talk to the lady at his work who actually talked to the 2 guys, she told him they looked very clean-cut to her, which in my opinion means they were the frat boys. Hope this helps clear thing up a bit.

You're right about the "hillbillies" (from the Insider videos) not being anywhere near the pit stop to see the other teams, unless of course they had major problems reaching the pit stop themselves. Highly unlikely.
eta: Thought I should clarify the "hillbilly" quote. That came from Ray's interview with Phil and Yoyo corrected him and said Hippies.
I'm trying to view the Insider videos again, with no luck, so I removed the "redneck" comment that I attributed to Ray. It may have been the Hippies who used the term.

Lots of good stuff on those clips. I got to see most of them and those on Dialup are missing quite a few laughs. Yeah he called them Rednecks and said something about them returning to their shack. Next leg would have been a hoot if the Hippies had not eaten the grasshoppers and assorted bug "feast" that RaYoyo appearently turned down (that's what happened yes?)
In another clip BJ recounts a story that he said Jo told them about beating up a guy in a bar for calling him a Redneck. Says he stompped on him and hit him over the head with a beer bottle. Did you see that one? Ray got in on the action as well about EJ being dummies.
