In honor of the late Apskip, and here's the post before he died:
Please enter your comments and information on AR24 flights, trains, ferries, boats, driving routes and whatever else pertains to transportation here.
In memory:

I see one direct flight:
CZ 328 from Los Angeles to Guangzhou, 16/2230-18/0540
-
Racers were at EVA Air, perhaps they transit in Taipei?
-
Can I get a timeframe? I haven't seen any spoilers other than Chateau's yet. Here're the Eva Air options:
BR 11 from Los Angeles to Taipei, 16/1550-17/2235
BR 15 from Los Angeles to Taipei, 16/2245-18/0530
BR 1 from Los Angeles to Taipei, 16/2325-18/0610
BR 707 from Taipei to Guangzhou, 18/0810-1015
Here are some alternative options with connections, with both legs on the same airline:
CX 883 from Los Angeles to Hong Kong, 16/2220-18/0600
CX 6782/KA 782 from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, 18/0800-0855
CA 984 from Los Angeles to Beijing, 17/0040-18/0530
CA 1351 from Beijing to Guangzhou, 18/0805-1055
OZ 203 from Los Angeles to Seoul, 17/0030-18/0650
OZ 369 from Seoul to Guangzhou, 18/0840-1130
-
If the teams are being sent on flights into Taipei, and there aren't direct flights from there into Guangzhou, then that is how production is managing the Racers to get Phil, Bert, and Elise in ahead of the teams. (Especially if there is a direct flight out of LAX that the trinity can use that the Racers weren't allowed to use.)
-
China So #328 dep 1030PM 11/16 is one flight per Chateau.
Racers were lined up at EVa air...can we see the connections via Taipei??
Timeframe? It is currently 640PM in LA.
-
^ Read the thread :funny:
Know you're busy today love!
Agree with Schnauzers; Production probably on the 10.30pm direct flight (arriving 5.40am), and I'm thinking the teams go via Taipei (arriving 10.15am) and Seoul (arriving 11.30am).
Assuming the first sightings were of the teams at Eva, that'd make it the earlier flight available to the teams. That makes Hong Kong less likely. Going through Beijing means customs has to be cleared in two separate cities for the two itineraries, so I'm less inclined to bank on it too.
-

Two direct flights from LAX Same flight, most likely production~
-
As Airlinesguy pointed out on the Speculation thread, they're the same flight on code-share.
(Double the price for the same flight! Delta must be making a killing!)
-
Sorry Neobie. I couldn't understand your itinerary... and yes, up to my eyeballs!!
The flight I posted via Chateau is apparently confirmed. Could you just do ONE flight on EVA that gets in close to that one please? Thanks!!
-
LAX TO TAIPEI - same as Neobie
FIRST FLIGHT
22:45 LOS ANGELES (Terminal B)
05:30 TAIPEI (Terminal 2)
SECOND FLIGHT
23:25 LOS ANGELES (Terminal B)
06:10 TAIPEI (Terminal 2)
2 flights from Eva out of LAX tonight, enough to host all 11 (or 12?) teams. And they will get connection from Taipei to Guangzhou... hang on.
-
TAIPEI TO GUANGZHOU
BR 707
EVA Air 8:10 AM
* GETS IN AT 10:15 AM
The rest are only scheduled at as late as 2.15pm~
Unless they are rotting for almost 10 hours at the airport (unlikely??)
China Southern Airlines 4801 / China Airlines 521
2:15 PM - Mon Nov-18-2013
4:15 PM - Mon Nov-18-2013
China Southern Airlines 3098 / China Airlines 8521
2:30 PM - Mon Nov-18-2013
4:35 PM - Mon Nov-18-2013
-
Same information as Jobby.
BR 15 from Los Angeles to Taipei, 16/2245-18/0530
BR 1 from Los Angeles to Taipei, 16/2325-18/0610
BR 707 from Taipei to Guangzhou, 18/0810-1015
Either one for the first leg from Los Angeles to Taipei, but both connect to the same second leg onwards to Guangzhou, arriving four-and-a-half hours later than the direct flight.
The first flight arrives early though; maybe they'd be held at the airport upon arrival by TPTB?
-
Not usually held back.
Current Time
Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 11:24:20 AM CST So +11 hours for me.
-
Slightly off-topic:
If I didn't just start my new job I'd be on a flight right now to Guangzhou that arrives before even the direct flight! (It's not even that expensive.)
Let's try to figure out where they'd be next weekend (hopefully still this corner of the world) and I'd be there...
-
The flights at the counter that I noticed were BR15 and CX883.
BR 15 LAX-TPE 2245-0530+2
CX 883 LAX-HKG 2020-0540+2
So From Taipei presumably
BR 707 TPE-CAN 0810-1015
From Hong Kong
CX 6782 HLG-CAN 0800-0855
So Hong Kong Flight should get in an hour and 20 minutes ahead of Taipei

For those interested to track flights in real-time, Flightradar24 is a good site.
Currently I'm following EVA Air Flight 15 enroute from LAX-TPE where some of the racers are on-board. :)
EVA 15: http://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/br15/ (B-16708)
CATHAY 883: http://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/cx883/ (B-KPW)
It is to be noted there may not be coverage over some areas and the tag above would show "PLAYBACK" instead of "LIVE".

Usually the first leg flights are fixed right? Any chance they might get into Guangzhou on afternoon flights?
-
No because the only flights from Hong Kong to Guangzhou are the morning one
CX 6782 0800-0855
or evening ones
CZ 634 1840-1950
CX 6786 2020-2120.
Taipei has two afternoon flights to Guangzhou
CI 521 1415-1615
CZ 3098 1430-1635
but the morning flight
BR 707 0810-1015
makes much more sense, schedule wise to have daylight while filming, and airline wise as they share the same airline as well as matching closely with the other Hong Kong Flight.
So the presumed flights earlier should be the correct flights.
-
The flights at the counter that I noticed were BR15 and CX883.
So everything is clear, here are the speculated flights...
First Flight Via Hong Kong
CX 883 LAX-HKG 2020-0600+2
CX 6782 HLG-CAN 0800-0855
Second Flight Via Taipei
BR 15 LAX-TPE 2245-0530+2
BR 707 TPE-CAN 0810-1015
-
Eva Air flight 15 has just landed in Taipei
:D
The Cathay Pacific flight has 45 mins left till it lands in Hong Kong :D
-
What times (EST and/or Guangzhou time) are the two flights scheduled to arrive in Guangzhou?
-
1st flight delayed
-
What times (EST and/or Guangzhou time) are the two flights scheduled to arrive in Guangzhou?
8:55 AM and 10:15 AM in Guangzhou
-
1st flight delayed
Yes, but they still have about an hour and a half to make the connection, and both are in Terminal 1, so they should be fine.
-
Based on Chengmd's sighting of the teams at Taipei, we can confirm:
Later flight via Taipei
Luke/Margie
Caroline/Jennifer
Brendon/Rachel
Herbert/Nathaniel
Natalie/Nadiya were seen at the Cathay counter, so it's more likely they made it on the earlier flight.
-
Compiling Weihen's information with that provided by Surblue, Jacker4s, 331449773, and 火柴in天堂 on Baidu, the transport for this leg:

Walk/taxi?
-
All teams took taxi to Haixinsha except Margie/Luke,Dave/Connor,Joey/Meghan.
-
So Sabah means Kota Kinabalu airport. Looks like the only direct flight they missed and all teams will funnel via KL.
-
The first flight to KL is I think:
MH 9097
Malaysia Airlines 8:25 AM
-
The first flight to KL is I think:
MH 9097
Malaysia Airlines 8:25 AM
Yeah, there's 2 (correct me if wrong) leaving at 8:25, one getting in 1.5 hour later.
-
8:25 am→12:25 pm Guangzhou - Kuala Lumpur China Southern 349
1:20 pm→3:55 pm Kuala Lumpur - Kota Kinabalu AirAsia 5114
seem to be the fastest from what i've found...
but oh the crappy site i've found didn't show the korean ones
-
These are the flights I see from Guangzhou to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia:
Malaysia Air 9097/2616 leaves 8:25 AM arrives 4:40 PM
Korean Air 842/673 leaves 9:35 AM arrives 11:00 PM
Korean Air 790/673 leaves 10:45 AM arrives 11:00 PM
I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are better flights (or faster arrivals for the Korean Air flights through South Korea).
It's currently 6:25 AM in Guangzhou.
-
Much better connections via KL and also HONG Kong
All flights to KL:
-
10:05 am
→
1:05 pm
AirAsia 1542
Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu if they could get there to catch that one...
-
Flights KL>>Kota. MIGHT just catch the earlier highlighted one if they are lucky.
-
Earliest FLIGHT is this one, not sure if teams are allowed to fly DragonAir. Remember ferry to HK might actually be quicker but prob they are told to fly.
-
HK>KOTA
-
So via HK faster by 45 min? Interesting to see if anyone gets this one...
-
Anybody have friends in Kota?? :funny:
-
Sorry guys, we might have the timeframe wrong!
Teams left earlier than expected, and are all expected by Soledad_TAR on Baidu to be on:
AK 1531 from Guangzhou to Kota Kinabalu, 20/0255-0605
That means they have already arrived in Sabah.
-
Thanks Neobie. Ignore my flights.
-
One thing that confuses me much is though, people at like 5 AM saying, they're taking taxis to the airport, and now like, they're already in Malaysia? lol
-
That's because many people assumed Jason's posts on Sucks to be real-time, but actually most of his information for the second leg (and onwards) comes second-hand from Baidu. The original postings for the teams at the airport were made around 1am, and Jason only moved the information to Sucks at 5.39am.
This also means that I had miscalculated, and this was an uncharacteristically short Pit Stop. Huh?

Oh that makes sense, and for the pit stop well they might have considered giving them airplane time to sleep too...
And hmmm this still makes great disadvantage on the late teams if there wasn't enough seats for all of them...

If they missed the flight they'd arrive at 3pm: a 9-hour disadvantage! So I'm pretty sure production did what they could to put teams on the same flight.
-
Or they just can invoke an HoO to equalize everybody.
-
Anybody have friends in Kota Kinabalu?? :funny:
This is like less than 2hours flight from my home... :crybabe:
I think I have a close friend there but I can't contact him since he is presenting his final thesis today for his Master degree... :(

Sure, a Master's Degree will provide benefits for the rest of his life, but how often to you get to track TAR in person?
Tell him to get his priorities in order.
:colealert:
Seriously, I hope it goes well for him. :winner
-
LOVE this. ^^^ :funny:
-
I can't fly there either... There's no direct flight from BPN to Kota kinabalu, even though we're at the same island, it must connect in Tarakan or KLI , and it's not cheap :(
See...this is why we need to boost our ASEAN Economic Community, so that we can connect to every ASEAN locations without limit (just like Europe)..
Anyway, moving on again to transport.. :js:

Possible transportation if leg 4 will be in Qatar:
Looks very possible.
-
Only one flight doesn't leave Phil any room though.
-
A somewhat more "obscure" routing.........
Kota to Brunei
BI 826 6:05 pm -- 6:45pm
Brunei to Dubai
BI 97 8:55 -- 1:40am
Dubai to Qatar
EK 847 2:15am -- 2:25am
FZ 11 2:20am -- 2:25am
QR 1003 5:30 am -- 5:40am
The first two connections from Dubai to Qatar are pretty short. Since I have no personal knowledge of the airport, I have no idea if they are possible at that time of the day. Still, the QR connection arrives about daybreak, which TPTB like to use for filming.
This route keeps teams out of Singapore and KL airports and might keep teams "hidden" from a lot of race spoilers. It is just one of a few possibilities.
-
Dr Rox, what if Qatar is a connecting point, and not the destination? We've had that before, and if the discussion about a 30 hour rest period after the second leg is accurate that may well point to a long travel period after that. And the live sighting info implying a short or no rest period after leg 3 also gives credence to such a possibility.
-
All Peach mentioned was Qatar......so I looked at flights to get to Qatar. Hell maybe they are going to the ISS. Heck if I know. I get no secret info.
FWIW, it seems way to early to fly out of Central or East Asia. Just 3 legs so far.
As Peach has posted, the twitter person that posted about Qatar, confessed he was asked to misdirect by production.
-
Looks like teams were on one or all of these flights from Kota to Kuala Lumpur...
AK 5121 AirAsia 22:45 23:09 T-L Landed Late 24 min
AK 5119 AirAsia 22:05 23:07 T-L Landed Late 62 min
MH 2631 Malaysia Airlines 21:30 21:41 T-M Landed On-time
-
Teams were seen at the gate in Kota Kinabalu's low-cost terminal between 5.54pm (sunset) and 6.34pm (upload time). This means they were on one of these three flights:
AK 5133 from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur, 1830-2100
AK 5117 from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur, 1835-2105
AK 4119 from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur, 1935-2205
Dave/Connor and Jet/Cord were seen at the same terminal at around 10.55am. There were about five Air Asia flights they could have taken before the main group, and a couple more on Malaysian Airlines from another terminal.
That's a massive time gap! What happened in Leg 3?
-
It looked from the photos......they were in different terminal. Cowboys group were in a two story terminal and Luke group was in single story terminal.

How are we getting from Rome to Seville?
Trains not looking promising....
I am thinking a rolling pitstop?? Ferry Rome / Civitavecchia>>Barcelona takes about 19 hours , cabins available.
Checking one week ahead gave me this:
FERRY from Rome / Civitavecchia>>Barcelona
Vessel Departure Arrival
MV Cruise Roma 07/12/2013 22:15 08/12/2013 18:15

Then easy flight or train to Seville. Eats up some time giving Phil a chance to get ahead.
What do y'all think??
-
Ferry through the Mediterranean seems most likely.
-
How long would the ferry take? There is someone who tweeted they are on day two of a cruise from Rome to Seville and I tweeted them to ask about any TAR teams, but it would seem unlikely to me they were on an actual cruise. The person who said they would be working with TAR in the centre of Seville said they would be doing it for two days (Monday & Tuesday)...this makes me think Phil would arrive today and contestants tomorrow?
-
Ferry takes 19 hours to Barcelona, much longer if they go onwards.
-
There is probably a train connection from Barcelona to Sevilla along the coast. I've been in Salou a few times which is near Barcelona and there was a train route then. Are flights a no go?
-
High speed trains are available from Barcelona to Seville via Madrid. Travel time is 5 to 5.5 hours.

Paris to Las Vegas flights (dated December 6):
These destinations are connected through major American airports:
DL185 from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to New York-JFK: 1037-1305 (scheduled 1040-1324)
DL454 from New York-JFK to Las Vegas: 1458-1814 (scheduled 1459-1756)
AA63 from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Miami: 0955-1326 (scheduled 1000-1435; an earliest actual arrival)
AA2207 from Miami to Las Vegas: 1724-1956 (scheduled 1615-1850)
AF636 from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Houston-Intercontinental: 1113-1459 (scheduled 1030-1415)
UA254 from Houston-Intercontinental to Las Vegas: 1823-1952 (scheduled 1613-1741; two hours delayed due to a severe snow in Dallas)
-
Paris to Las Vegas flights (dated December 6):
AF636 from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Houston-Intercontinental: 1113-1459 (scheduled 1030-1415)
UA254 from Houston-Intercontinental to Las Vegas: 1823-1952 (scheduled 1413-1741; two hours delayed due to a severe snow in Dallas)
This itinerary makes no sense. Why would snow in Dallas affect a direct flight from Houston to Vegas? You could never book a flight with a connection as the original schedule. You cannot book a flight that takes off 2 minutes before you arrive. Flight delays in Houston are because of weather conditions in Houston, not Dallas.
More sensible flight connections are Paris to either London, Montreal or Toronto......then to Vegas. That keeps the connecting airport out of the US.
-
Sorry for this Dr. Rox, I corrected the scheduled time for UA254 flight from Houston to Vegas was 4:13 pm/16:13 not 14:13. See actual flight time in post above.
-
Sorry for this Dr. Rox, I corrected the scheduled time for UA254 flight from Houston to Vegas was 4:13 pm/16:13 not 14:13. See actual flight time in post above.
Where did the "snow in Dallas" come from. I live in Dallas and we had almost NO snow, maybe 1/10 of an inch. We did have about 2 inches of freezing rain and sleet. The ground was very cold and when the rain hits it.......it freezes instantly. People are ice skating and playing hockey in the streets. DFW airport now has 3 runways in operation out of the normal 7. We expect about 7 hours today above freezing, so a lot of this mess should disappear today. To show you how cold the ground was.....my driveway is on a hill and it has about an inch of ice on it. It was so cold the rain didn't have time to run down the hill. We did get a Lufthanza jet stuck on a taxiway.....the pilot cut a corner a little short in the whiteout conditions and got some wheels stuck off the concrete.
-
The plane being used for a flight from Houston might have been stranded in Dallas because of the icing conditions. The flight number for that plane out of Dallas can be different from the flight number out of Houston. So with all the problematic weather issues across the country, there would have been a domino effect with flights because the plans weren't able to be in the right place at the right time, and it could take days for the airlines to get all their planes positioned in the right places for resuming a fully normal flight schedule.

Certainly in these big weather events, planes do get scattered. Dallas only has one arrival and one departure a day from Houston on United Airlines. Flight Stats shows the 6 am departure from Dallas to Houston on Dec 6 to have been cancelled. Most domestic airlines, except American, got all their planes out of DFW on Dec 5 to avoid the ice.

With the exception of Hawaii and Alaska (and not for a while), Race does not schedule flights to the finale that connect through the US, mainly to keep sightings of the final three to a minimum. Second to last leg was in England not Paris. They flew from LHR direct to LV. Probably on Virgin, but there are plenty of other options.

Evidence that Leg 11 was England?
-
The issue this time is that there was a bad windstorm over much of Europe at the time teams were finishing the last couple of European legs, and there would have been the same issues in transport as there was in the U.S. towards the end of last week with consecutive storms coming through.
With so little raw information from live sightings, this may not be resolved until the season has aired. (I'm not saying the teams didn't fly in from London into Las Vegas, I am saying it may not have been the original plan.)
We'll have to wait and see what emerges.
-
I was just looking at some possible flight itineraries from Paris to Las Vegas.
Paris to Montreal to Las Vegas.......
Not possible.
Paris to Toronto to Las Vegas
4 possible connections, but times do not seem to match arrival in Vegas as stated on here.
Paris to London to Las Vegas
1 connection through Gatwick, but arrives in Vegas too early to seem to match.
1 connection through Heathrow that seems to match timing
-
Remember please, spec goes into the SPEC thread.
The actual flight carrying racers was this one:
-
There was a direct flight from Pairs into Las Vegas around the same time Peach posted in the live sightings.
Cool.......could you post the flight number, times, etc?
-

There's only one: XL Airways France has a direct flight from Paris to Las Vegas, it runs only during summer months between July and August, yearly.
Flight on Paris-Las Vegas: SE42, 1400-1615 (not available in December and winter time)
-
Since the teams flew out of London, not Paris...it really doesn't matter, does it?

Flight on Paris-Las Vegas: SE42, 1400-1615 (not available in December and winter time)
Thanks claude......It is just strange to me how a seasonal flight in the summer shows up in a winter search.....lol I use two different flight data bases and neither showed any direct flights from Paris to Las Vegas.

Burns me they had PROVIDED flights again.
-
Peach, it's possible that the provided flights were a result of the last minute leg(s) substitution and to get the filming back on track for leg 5.
The leg 5 preview sure implies that the flights next week are not provided.
-
You can still say you are limited to flights on (list airlines) and make them work to find their own flights. Our GAMES flight challenges are more difficult. :gaah:
And I do not complain much, but last week's flight separation was ridiculous. If you MUST put teams on flights 3 hours apart for whatever reason, then at least make the largest # of teams on the last one. And then give them an hours of opp followed by a complex route info task that GIVES TEAMS A CHANCE. I have to agree completely with Meghan's comments in her exit interview here:
http://www.hitfix.com/the-fien-print/interview-joey-meghan-talk-amazing-race-all-stars (http://www.hitfix.com/the-fien-print/interview-joey-meghan-talk-amazing-race-all-stars)
So far, substitutions or not, not impressed. Taxis and flights on a silver platter, great fun. The only real transport challenge we have had so far was navigating the metro in Guangzhou.

They are provided if you go to the designated travel agency.
-
Agree with TheSchnauzers that the provided flights were probably because of the last minute leg switch-up... They probably also had to keep teams from arriving in Kuala Lumpur too early, before nightfall!
I give them a pass for keeping a travel agency open for the teams in KL. With no other agency open and the no-online-booking rules I don't know how else teams could have made it to Sri Lanka...

I HATE the fact that there are so many production-provided flights, but it's because the Malaysian legs weren't planned and they had to have provided flights to and from Malaysia. Hopefully, teams will HAVE TO FIND THEIR OWN FLIGHTS from Sri Lanka to Rome, and throughout the rest of the race. For the first HALF of the Race, teams have been provided flights
Leg 1 (Los Angeles to Guangzhou) Two provided flights (standard for Starting)
Leg 2 (Guangzhou) No travel, as teams stayed in Guangzhou
Leg 3 (Guangzhou to Sabah) Two provided flights
Leg 4 (Sabah to Kuala Lumpur) Three provided flights
Leg 5 (Kuala Lumpur to Colombo) Provided travel agency, still provided flights
Leg 6 (Colombo to Kandy) Teams most likely traveled by train.

This sucks, especially because the order would have changed. Teams would only be slightly less than an hour apart, and the bottom feeders may have had a chance, unless they were forced to take the 5:30pm Malaysian flight (which had a massive delay).

The flights for leg 5 seems to have been:
Flight 1:
MI 341 KUL-SIN 21:40 - 22:25 (scheduled 21:40 - 22:35)
SQ 468 SIN-CMB 22:59 - 00:02+1 (scheduled 23:05 - 00:15+1)
Flight 2:
MH 179 KUL-CMB 00:29+1 - 01:28+1 (scheduled 23:05 - 23:59)
Flight 3:
D7 180 KUL-CMB 10:47+1 - 11:34+1 (scheduled 09:20+1 - 10:10+1)
-
And the trains from the Fort railway station in Colombo probably were:
Train #1
Fort - Galle 06:55 - 09:19
This carries everybody but Margie and Luke.
Train #2
Fort - Galle 14:25 - 16:31
Poor Margie & Luke are 7 hours behind at this point.
This 2.5 hour train ride seems to cost about Rs.65 (~1$).
-
Well it was nice to see the train to Galle. It was completely demolished in the tsunami in about 75. New cars were really nice. The old train was pretty dilapidated.
-
Rome flights
UL581 from Colombo to Rome, 0120 (11/28) - 0711 (11/28) (scheduled 0120-0715) - direct flight

The rail travel schedules from Orvieto, Italy to Luzern, Suisse are both interesting and surprising. All the early morning departures involve backtracking to Rome. Then to Milan to Chiazzo (from the released press photos) to Arth-Goldbau to Luzern.
There is one connection that leaves Orvieto about 12:30 pm that goes to Florence, then Milian, then Chiasso, then Arth-Goldbau then to Luzern. This particular connection arrives at approx. 10:20 pm. There are some screen shots from the preview that show a town square after sunset. So this connection could work with a HoO in Luzern upon arrival. The route info task of cleaning the hotel room in the AM. It would be interesting if teams had to clean their own rooms or production rooms....lol.

You spelled Swiss wrong.
Google shows a possible route via Orte and Milan, getting there at 8:44am. They can do tasks in Chiasso in daylight, and then proceed to Lucerne and do a night leg.

Can anyone figure out the trains from Rome to Chiasso?
We see the lead teams getting their tickets at 10.10am and just making the train.
Brendon/Rachel's ticket agent tells them they arrive at Chiasso at 1.55pm, but when they actually arrive the clocks show 3.25pm.
The cowboys get on a train at 11.20am, which fits with Train ES 9526 to Milan.
I can't get historical train times (maybe someone could?) but here's the closest I have:
Brendon/Rachel, Leo/Jamal, Dave/Connor, Caroline/Jennifer
Train ES 9520 to Milan, 1020-1340
Train EC 158 to Chiasso, 1410-1449
Jet/Cord
Train ES 9526 to Milan, 1120-1440
Train EC 20 to Chiasso, 1510-1549
