Fox had the NFL overrun which hurt, plus NBC is having tremendous ratings with Sunday Night Football thus far.
Next week, CBS has the overrun so that should help.
Its not that bad Michael. Almost all shows are down from the year ago numbers (and thats typical). Its just disappointing that this is the rist time since season 9 that TAR hasn't increased over the previous year's cycle.
I was thinking that TiVo and Later viewing is probably really big for TAR...I always like to be able to pause and take a second look here more than any other show I watch. Is Tivo use tracked at all and factored in any of the rating charts?DVR use is tracked and can be added to the overall ratings, but I'm not exactly sure how it's done.
yeahI agree Michael, TAR12 was not all that. This season rocks! I can't get into the TAR12 re-runs on the Travel Channel ..I watched 1 episode in all.
i was thinking about it today
TAR12 felt nothing like TAR for some reason....i'm not sure what it was....but TAR13 already feels alot more "TARish" if that makes sence..
Well I am surprised they didn't include the Vice Presidential Debate in this weeks ratings. Because that alone would have been enough to knock us out of the top 20, since it did over 11 million viewers on 3 different networks.Special event news programming like the Presidential Debates aren't included in the ratings because they don't contain commercials. Debates are usually put into another category and aren't counted in the primetime ratings.
Actually Ken total audience level even with both sporting events (Both of which set record lows) shouldn't have been a large factor.I'll respectfully differ with you on that, mswood. You know I love you but besides that, I do think the sports ratings skewered this week's TAR ratings. With no football against TAR, the male audience and 18-49 went to Fox for the WS. I do think the World Series (lower ratings considered with the two teams this year) did play a factor for the lower finish this week.
I hope you are right.Actually Ken total audience level even with both sporting events (Both of which set record lows) shouldn't have been a large factor.I'll respectfully differ with you on that, mswood. I do think you'll see TAR's ratings go up on Sunday with regular programming back in place.
I wonder if having the full episodes on CBS will play a role? As happy as I am to see them, there has always been a sense of urgency to either watch or DVR the show...and perhaps that sense of urgency is gone?Yes, that actually does help. NO matter what the studios said to the writers before the strike happened. The studio gets small small amount of money from each ad watched. ANd while it is small, its is a growing market where income is only going to increase.
But some ad man should be happy...I watched all 20ish? clips each 1-3 minutes, and I saw the same exact 30 sec Sprint ad all however many times. That's a pretty high return--30 sec for less than 3 minutes?
And lord knows we are the biggest product placement show around! :groan:
What seems to have happened is that any early decline in the TAR13 numbers has largely ended. "The Amazing Race 13" has stabilized in the ratings as a moderately successful show on a largely successful network lineup. CBS as a whole also won the week among overall viewers, tying for second place in the 18-49 age group.

At 9 p.m., the Giants-Eagles game and ABC's "Desperate Housewives" tied for the lead at 10.0/15 (and were separated by fewer than 50,000 total viewers). "The Amazing Race" and "Cold Case" scored a 7.5/11 for CBS, beating out "Family Guy," 5.2/8, and "American Dad," 4.1/6, on FOX.
NBC reclaimed sole possession of first at 10 p.m. as the game posted a 9.5/16. "Cold Case" and "The Unit" drew a 7.2/12 for CBS, edging the 6.9/11 for "Brothers & Sisters" on ABC.

The ratings are going up as the season progresses which is par for the course and with a weak matchup for NBC's Sunday Night Football, the ratings for the finale should be decent.

TV Ratings: CBS, FOX Split Sunday
Viewer crown goes to CBS while FOX wins the demo derby
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008
A made-for-TV movie helped CBS hold off FOX and take the overall ratings title Sunday night.
CBS averaged a 7.6 rating/12 share for the night, a little better than second-place FOX's 6.7/10. ABC was a close third at 6.6/10, and NBC came in fourth with a 6.1/9. The CW, as usual, was way off the pace at 1.0/1.
FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.6 rating. ABC took second at 3.7, just ahead of NBC, 3.6. CBS averaged 2.8 and The CW 0.5.
FOX's late-afternoon NFL coverage and "The OT" scored an 11.5/18 at 7 p.m., easily topping "60 Minutes," 8.9/14, on CBS. ABC got a 3.5/6 from the special "Ty Pennington: Behind the Scenes," which was good enough to beat the 3.0/5 for "Football Night in America" on NBC. The CW aired a "Jericho" rerun.
"Sunday Night Football," 7.0/11, moved NBC into the lead at 8 p.m. The season finale of "The Amazing Race" drew a 6.3/10 for CBS, edging the 6.2/10 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on ABC. FOX dropped to fourth with the "BCS Selection Show," 5.8/9, and "The Simpsons," 3.8/6. The CW went with the movie "The Cutting Edge."
"Desperate Housewives," 9.9/15, moved ABC into the lead at 9 p.m. NBC's NFL game improved to 7.7/11. The CBS movie "Front of the Class" took third at 7.1/10. Reruns of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" kept FOX in fourth, while The CW's movie finished with a 1.1/2.
At 10 p.m., "Front of the Class" moved CBS to the front of the pack with an 8.0/13. ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," 6.9/11, narrowly beat "Sunday Night Football," 6.7/11, for second.
