If there is a perfect place for a Pit Stop in Guilin, TPTB found it!
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/Guilin/GuilinFoldedBrocadeMountains11.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/Guilin/GuilinFoldedBrocadeMountains17.jpg)
This is the Peak of the Luminous Moon in the Folded Brocade Mountains, overlooking the city of Guilin from the north, and Pit Stop in a race around the world! (Less poetic official translators call it Bright Moon Peak.)
Production closed the entire compound from 6pm on the 17th (the usual time vendors pack up and go home), and stayed ON the hilltop the entire night. There was a TPTB security team of six. (Geez, how much security do you need?) The peak's really just a courtyard with a little shelter, but the views here are marvelous. According to those who witnessed production, they have been hanging around for two days beforehand (since the 15th), and finally set up lights and a few tents for the big event, on the night of the 17th.
The people I talked to remembered rain that afternoon, when a few members of production popped by. The main activity, though, started at around 9pm. About 50-60 sandwiches were catered for the night, and a huge crowd started streaming in from 12am to 3am. It's such a huge group those I've talked to couldn't differentiate between crew and cast, but I guess those are our racers! (So late?)
Word of caution to the racers:

I got it! After I ask the people who live in Guilin, he said one of the clue box was at the entrance of the Guilin Li Rver Folk Customs Centre, Here is the picture.(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/th_rff-0040.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0040.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/th_rff-0041.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0041.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/th_rff-0045.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0045.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/th_rff-0001-1.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0001-1.jpg)(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/th_rff-0002-1.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0002-1.jpg)

saved and .........
I'll say it first, the title has to be Tammy & Victor or Mark & Michael but I'll pick Tammy & Victor
I think it's Tammy & Victor. But don't forget, anything too obvious is most likely not true. You never know though.
I can definitely see T/V saying it after they fumble at one of the Chinese-related tasks in China, since they supposedly have Chinese heritage. :funny: :lol:Thats what I was thinking Dragoon! plus I think it could be any of the 3 remaining related teams as well cuz Bangkok should be a NEL but still I'll take Tammy & Vic for the title.
I think you've got the wrong episode number, puddin.Fixed!
I'm gonna say it's Tammy & Victor. Maybe Tammy said this while Victor is doing the Roadblock (which is possibly a Chinese-related task).
If T/V says this quote, at least we have a cultural challenge this leg!
South City Gate (Gunammen, No 10 on map)So Mark & Michael were the team seen? Or they weren't?
The girl working at the Guilin Tourist Information Center saw the team running by during office hours (between 8.30am and 10.00pm). Tough luck, Mark and Michael!

We were in the Guangzhou China airport November 17th around 11pm and saw a team of two caucasian men wearing backpacks running through the airport with a cameraman and producer in tow. They were in the baggage claim area and were in a hurry to find something and stopped at hte information desk to ask directions. The cameraman was working to capture every move. The men were both short and appeared to be related. One had a fanny pack that was visible with red/yellow/back horizontal stripes on it. We went up to them and said "Are you with the Amazing Race?". They said "No", but we are waiting for cast pictures to see if they were telling the truth or not.
--------------------
They were both rarther short (5 ft 5 or less my guess) with brownish red hair. They looked like they were related. I think at least one of them wore glasses. They were "thick" build but not fat. They were wearing shorts and tshirts and both had on back packs. They were very much in a hurry and looked stressed. There was a camera man that was filming their every move and a person carrying a microphone that was stuck in front of their faces as well. Hope that helps
-------------------
It very well could have been Mark and Michael.
Sounds very much like Mark & Michael. Though they're actually Latino, not Caucasian.
Now, is this the F5 or the F4? Are they ahead, or way, way behind?

I assume that it is final 5 because leg 8 is most likely a NEL.
Guangzhou is closer to Guilin then Beijing.
And Mark and Michael do look caucasian in my mind, even if they aren't.
Heres the Guangzhou China (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,17788.msg372354.html#msg372354) airport sighting on November 17th at 11pm :)
I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here! Our calculations only suggest that Mark and Michael were at least three hours behind a team, not three hours behind everyone else.
That said, if TPTB designed the leg to be run at a saner hour than 12-3am that the brothers probably did, it's likely more teams made it into Guilin before them.
We'd know more when we see the time gaps on arrival in Phayathai Palace...
Our sighting looks good! Mark and Michael with a 4 hour penalty with the undone time added to their departure time!

钢厂 - RB? (you can see Kisha's hand at the pit-stop...she did the coal task)
理发店洗头 - I think it's Speedbump (The others are getting clue there, while Mark&Mick need to do the head-washing task)

They did come to Guilin...
My boyfriend worked as an assistant, and didn't know that it was TAR until I told him afterwards - I watch it all the time.
They stayed at the Sheraton, and the host was waiting for the contestants at the Sun Moon Towers. They also went to the Diecai (Folded Brocade) Mountains and a steel factory.
They flew off that night, but the crew had to wait for everyone to get on the plane before they could leave their posts, probably for privacy.
I think they went to a salon to wash hair - but maybe it was just to get a clue. My boyfriend says that the host was tall and handsome.
That's all I know, you'd all find out for sure when the episode airs! 'Cause we all love TAR!
This is what I am seeing...anybody want to help? ???

They flew off that night? Probably just Phil then? If they're flying to Beijing we should be expecting a 36-hour Pit Stop.
So for tasks we have the hair salon, comorants (riverside where Jen and Luke are fighting - and YAY!), something to do with the notebook and something to get LaKisha's hands dirty. We also have our Pit Stop, the Old South Gate, a steel factory and the very bizzare Folded Brocade Mountains.
That's a lot to fit in!
i checked the link to it, and the real thing was in a chinese amatuer forum about TAR(NO OFFENCE).They are a riot! I check that forum often and they are fans just like us :hearts:
Let's see. Do Mark & Michael still get far behind everyone, or do they catch back up and someone else gets the boot?

So you're that desperate to see them in first? Seriously, they're not that good. I think it's either Margie & Luke or Kisha & Jen who win the leg. And having read that second clue, yeah, I think it's Jaime & Cara in fourth, probably after a day of hard times from non-English-speaking Chinese people. Our Parents Will Cry Themselves to Death (China)

Exactly...Like what i've said before, Guilin is not a commercial zone, not at all , just a small town (but with BEAUTIFUL scenery)So you're that desperate to see them in first? I'm guessing Guilin doesn't have a lot of locals who speak English.
if anybody want me to traslate it PROPERLY pls tell me, and ill do it!
Oh, I know what you are talking about... that water park tour ticket office right?
We knew there is the pit-stop, located near the Sun & Moon Pagoda, right?
Sun and Moon Towers, and the Soulmate Pier (Riyue Shuangta and Zhiyin Tai, No 13 on map)
Theclue*Pit Stop* was on Soulmate Pier, which faces the towers in the middle of the lake. There is a ticketing booth for tourist boats on the pier, and the guy manning the booth was probably lying when he said he didn't know anything. Teams not likely to have entered the towers though.
Guilin is not a commercial city...just a small tourist province...so taxi driver/people there don't know how to speak in English is quite normal.
Uh-huh. That's the booth. That guy told me he worked alternate days and missed filming if there was any. He was still there the next day when I went back to check though.
ETA: I'm not too sure about this, but the mat is oriented so that teams have the towers as the backdrop while checking in. Running in from the road, this would mean teams run in from Phil's left. That gives us an arrival order of Kisha/Jen, Tammy/Victor, then Margie/Luke.
Good stuff kaad an Neobie! awesome! :yess: :jam:Jaime & Cara with their cheerleading background do a dancing task. When Jaime doesn't get the answer she wants, she yells at the judge. Then Bruno, Len and Carrie Ann Inaba come out from Dancing With the Stars and pummel her with brooms.

A THROWDOWN AT A CLUEBOX LEADS TO A MAT MELTDOWN, AND ONE RACER'S FRUSTRATION WITH FOREIGN LANGUAGES CONTINUES TO GROW, ON "THE AMAZING RACE," APRIL 19
"Our Parents Will Cry Themselves to Death" (China) During the Detour, one Racer is frustrated when a dancing judge doesnt understand their question, and two Teams battle each other throughout the leg, leading to a full-blown mat meltdown, on THE AMAZING RACE 14, Sunday, April 19 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Phil Keoghan is host.

kaad, your statementQuoteGuilin is not a commercial city...just a small tourist province...so taxi driver/people there don't know how to speak in English is quite normal.
No, Guilin is not a small town. It is a city of 600,000 in a metro area of 1.34 million. It has hordes of English-speaking tourists visiting regularly. I would guess that there is a fair comprehension of English by some residents, although not more than 1 in 10. What are my credentials to say this? I've been there. Have you? I don't recall any difficulty getting around and I speak no Mandarin.

I mean compare to Beijing,Shanghai,Guangzhou,Shenzhen these commercial zone, you know what i mean now?
I've been there, but I'm Chinese, so i have no problem in commuincation.
People there may know English, but not a lot, like what i said before.
Some people may get bad luck, you can find non-english speaker everywhere in China
Neobie, I'm wondering if teams do additional tasks in Guilin in the next episode before moving on to Beijing -- would that help us fit in some of these other locations? What if the whole Luke battles Jen and Jen battles Luke scenes are part from a route info scavenger hunt (look through all the clue boxes until you find the right one)?

re: the showdown
I was wondering if it was related to the Bangkok leg whereby Jen/Kisha and Margie/Luke were following each other. After M/L took off Jen/Kisha asked their Taxi driver if M/L's taxi driver gave him the wrong directions and he said yeah.
When in fact M/L had told their taxi driver not to tell J/K's taxi driver about the pedestrians who knew were the boat yard was.
J/K seemed pretty P**ed at M/L about this.
so maybe the showdown is a continuation of this.
Neobie,
Your ranking of Chinese cities appears to be fairly reasonable, although Guilin's metropolitan area is 51st in China. However, the better point of reference for me (and I think for most Amazing Race viewers, who are mostly in the U.S.) is to large cities of 600,000 in the U.S. On that basis, Guilin is comparable to El Paso, Milwaukee, Boston, Seattle and Denver. There are only 20 U.S. cities larger than Guilin. Its population may be medium-sized in the China pecking order but it would be large looked at from the U.S. perspective.
Hm...
Is it for sure that Mark&Michael will have to do their Speedbump in the salon? Usually the Speedbumped team goes somewhere else, right?
You know, if either teams Kisha&Jen and Luke&Margie are not last, shouldn't it be okay for them? I mean, there might be a conflict if they got to pitstop 1st/2nd, but L&M got a few prizes already, and if they're not 1st and last, they'd leave at almost the same time? It was there at the preview where Jen first called Luke a bit... You know what. lol Um...Can Luke hear that? Maybe he could read her lips, or maybe Margie told him, I dunno. :duno: My last theory is that basically Luke knew what Jen called him, and then maybe at pitstop that topic somehow came in and started the argument.

Last season, Dandrew performed their speed bump at the exact park where they spent having the shetland pony and detour. And with the lead of all other teams with Mark and Michael, I even feel that were going to have our first unused/unaired speed bump! :funny:
Most of the time teams do travel by taxi to the Speed Bump. However, in AR13 the critical second Moscow episode Dan/Andrew did their ROADBLOCK right in Sokolniky Park very close to the Shetland pony lady giving out DETOUR clues. So there is precedence for a Speed bump being at the same place. The key is that the task itself will be designed to take longer when there is no transportaiton needed.
and yet another echo of Season 6: "Someone I'm gonna break in half!"
lol, maybe Luke has such big reaction :snicker:to force Phil to give penalty to sisters, in order to help cheerleaders :-*to stay in the game :-[
Margie & Luke has lots of issue between Female teams this season. And yet . . . no mention of the Flight Attendants?
They are protecting and helping Cheerleaders a lots. :kuss:
They are being bad to the sisters, lied to teams that they will use U-turn, giving wrong direction for their taxi driver, and next week fight with them. :meow: I guess if sisters is not ahead of them in leg 4, I guess they might U-turn Sisters instead of Amanda Kris.Luke is not being fair to the girls

I don't think there's a U-Turn. 'Cause if there was, it'll be hard for Margie & Luke and Kisha & Jen to be at the same spot at the same time 3 times. (I doubt any of them will wait for the other to check in.)

Unless Luke committed first degree murder, Margie's going to defend him to the end.
Puddin, I realize you are probably waiting for a longer commerical but can you post a video of the short commerical. Thanks! ;D
Unless Luke committed first degree murder, Margie's going to defend him to the end.
I'm not that surprised. Luke's her son, so it's natural that Margie will defend him.
As for the U-Turn, I think that if Cara & Jamie use theirs, it'll be on Tammy & Victor and not on LaKisha & Jen. Cara & Jamie have more reason to dislike the siblings than the sisters, and Tammy & Victor are stronger. I also think that LaKisha & Jen will use their U-Turn on Margie & Luke and ignore Cara & Jamie. After all, Cara & Jamie never did anything to the sisters and Margie & Luke are stronger.

I agree with Belle Book about IF there is a U-turn. Unless of course Tammy and Victor get ahead of them so they can't.
Unless Luke committed first degree murder, Margie's going to defend him to the end.
That's what Moms are for.Damn straight. :jam: :jam: :jam:
Luke is a punk and a momma's boy. He threw an elbow and later pushes Jen. Plain and simple!
Luke will have his mommy do his fighting for sure!
That's a nice layout of caps. Do you have a collage/photostitch program? No its just the thumbnail option at photobucket which sure saves a lot of room.
QuoteLuke is a punk and a momma's boy. He threw an elbow and later pushes Jen. Plain and simple!

Being that Luke can't speak and vocalize anything. How could he argue? He can only sign his frustration and make gutteral sounds so of course his mother is going to fight for him. She's his voice in the race! Can you imagine how frustating that must be to want to verbally express yourself and you can't? All you can do is make a few sounds, show the frustation in your expressions and only use your hands to talk and the other person may not even understand what you are saying! Nor may you be able to understand what they are saying! (unless you read lips of course) I'm not saying Luke is right for pushing but come on, he has limits in verbal arguements so of course he can't argue like you and I would with another person. Your comment is pretty darn childish.
Having said that, I originally didn't think Margie was going to be a part of the arguement but now with the new footage it looks like she is and she is upset too. I originally thought it was all Luke. It looks like J/K's snickering for whatever reason they are doing it, sparks a fire under Margie. They may not be laughing at Luke for the reasons she thinks but I could see how she may misconstrue that and get upset and step up to defend him. This should be an interesting episode to see how it all plays out.
What's Margie holding? Almost looks like a decorated journal or something?Kisha and Jen are holding them as well peach. It's all Chinese to me.
Also, does anyone remember that TK/Rachel, were three hours behind, and they overtook Nate and Jen in Amazing Race 12? I think M/M are not out yet...

Well, considering that TK/Rachel left at 10-something and the other three teams had to wait for their first clue to open at 10, it isn't the same case.
MY OPINIONS..
1. There is a task that lead to the pitstop.... maybe a Detour that involves the item held by Margie and Jen... and maybe Tammy and Vic chose another choice because they didn't seem to have the item. OR Its a RB... the person not doing the roadblock waits for its partner to the pitstop,,, Jen and Margie could arrive at the same time. AND the mat meltdown began when they both check-in with T/V because if Kisha did the RB then the fight would start when they arrive if the task is a RB.
2. If the task is a Detour, then there is NO U-TURN. It would not make any logical sense if the U-turn was at the pitstop.

i don't like kisha and jen,,,
i prefer mark and michael more,,, just wondering if they just proceed to the detour and to the pitstop without going back to their backpacks, will phil let them get their things after checking them in the mat?
uycocoa,
i will be more than willing to join the TAR:TV Stars game in the TAR Fantasy Thread.

I watched the current "coming attractions" on my HD DVR in slow motion several times. Now, it is hard to tell, but it seems to me that Jen starts it by pushing Luke at the first box. Luke is already at the box, trying to open it. Jen is approaching at a run several steps behind. She then appears to push him as she arrives, you can see her hands on his back just as he gets the cluebox open or charitably she might be trying to prevent him from backing into her. Then she goes around to his left, at which time he brings his elbox, shoulder, and hand up with the CLUE in his hand. He probably hit her, not sure whether it was intentional or not. After all he can't hear her running up behind him or he may have known she was behind him and was "defending" his space. After all he can't yell "stop it". I think Luke's feeling was that he arrived first and should be able to get out of the way by himself not be PUSHED out of the way. You can then see Jen fuming in the taxi and saying "game on".
The second box was an all out, body blocking run by both Jen and Luke with no stopping on either part until Jen hit the clue box. Both parties seem to be using everything they had to make it to the box first. Jen did touch the box first. The remainder is hard to interpret. Either both were running so hard they couldn't stop or Luke attempted to reach over Jen - I think, from the brief clip that they showed, they were both running so hard they couldn't stop. Luke did appear to back up when Jen hit the box, but that my have been him trying not to fall over. Neither was holding back in the pushing and blocking department.

redskinskevin88:
It is not a high probabilty, but yes I think another fast forward is a possiblity and Tammy/Victor taking it could explain some of the observed timing.
I doubt there's a Fast Forward. I'm pretty sure that the Phuket, Thailand, leg had the only Fast Forward in it.Thats what we hear. Only 1 FF was available this season and thats that. As far as the U-Turn I have no idea when and where it might be and I think they are pre-planned FLFan. TPTB don't just stick them where they want just like the NEL legs. And when the next NEL is one could only guess so I'll guess its leg 10 but really have no idea at this point.
has there had been any instance where both a speedbump and u-turn were on a same leg....Yes. Kynt & Vyxsin's final leg in India had both a Speed Bump and a U-Turn. They had to do yoga for a while, just before Kynt made the stupid decision of ignoring Vyxsin's very good argument and U-Turning the already-in-front-of-them Nicolas & Donald.
i really don't think so....

If you follow Phils blog he states that the Sisters and Marge/Luke come in mere seconds of each other. What the placings are I don't know but for sure not last.
I'll go with the Mark and Michael being eliminated with the evidence posted through out this topic.
Or what if Jaime and Cara took the FF? They didn't seem to be around either at last or second to the last......No, the Web clues say they do a Detour, so I doubt there's a Fast Forward on this leg.
You need to take that taser from your boyfriend. :lol:Thats not a bad idea

When peach & I write that we heard there was only 1 Fast Forward and it was not used then why are we still talking about a possible Fast Forward?
Like I said, I am expecting an exciting EP9 with 3 teams arriving within a very short time. My DVR is set and ready with extra time allowed in case my Sunday evening runs late and I don't get home as expected. You don't have to worry about an overrun this week. In fact we're done with overruns for the rest of the season.

Yeah, there's the remote possibility of breaking news on a Sunday night, but a Presidential announcement usually is saved for a weeknight. I agree, you never know, but I'm willing to throw the dice on Sunday. :tup:You don't have to worry about an overrun this week. In fact we're done with overruns for the rest of the season.
No more "scheduled" overruns. (I saw that in a previous post.) However, there is always the chance of major breaking news, presidential announcement, or something else completely unexpected to cause a delay. I have a DVR, so I might as well use its functions. One of my co-workers missed everything in the second half of last week because she forgot to set hers!
Sorry for the "hope-there-is-a-fast-forward"....I guess I'm sick of reading it over and over and over ....... same goes with the U-Turn :badhorse:
Okay.. I now quit talking about that..... but i don't recall a violation TALKING about that.....
As a children of God, we must not take matters at hand by using punishment.

My second theory is that J/C are indeed the 1st team to check in, and are already away from the mat area when the melt down occurs. M/L & J/L are 2nd & 3rd, and Tammy & Victor are 4th because they are the team having problems with the dance. This explains their departure next elimination. Also the title "Our parents..." because they couldn't understand or learn a dance that is part of their heritage.
It's like "mushpants" was still posting.... .. OH! that now banned person
They haven't shown a fast-forward all season...That's because there was one, the season's only one, and it wasn't taken. It was on the Phuket, Thailand, leg.

After 2 pages of really, really long and repeated arguments of speculations about U-turns, Fast Forwards and the like... :ascared :groan:
For those people who would like to know whether there are fast forwards, u-turns, etc. Let's just wait and see how this episode ends... It's weekend already anyway Let's all be peaceful! :hearts: :ghug: :hearts:

BACK TO SPECULATING...
I actually agree with littlewop's first theory/speculation that K/J and M/L are running for first place. Based on the preview(which I really, really got addicted to...), while Margie was expressing her sentiments about Luke's signing and they laughing about it, no part of the screen had Tammy or Victor's shirt color, hand or any body part for that matter. I just don't know if it was shot after Tammy/Victor had left the mat (If I were them, why would I stay so long there anyway, I might get in the middle of things making it harder for me to run the race...)
Tammy/Victor can be seen in the clip, but there came one point when Margie was so infuriated, there seems to be no one at the side or back of her, if their proximities are very close, shouldn't a small portion of Tammy be seen in the picture? If indeed they are there, Kudos to the camera crew who shot that!

I think the portion of the clip that you are talking about is shown around/after the running, blocking, and colliding at the second clue box? (I am not at home so I can't review it. Work - lunch - checking in, no access to video!) They show Margie, infuriated! and possibly horrified? If you look back when that portion starts, you can see Margie (at least I think it is Margie, the pinkish color shirt is correct) just starting to come down the steps as Jen and Luke run body blocking each other as they leave from the step area. I think the cut they are showing of Margie's expression is her reaction to the race and it's results at the clue box. As far as I can tell, it was not at the mat. It was "on the beach", at least I think it is a beach....
My question is: Don't both team members have to be present, NEXT to each other, to open the clue? Margie is still coming down the steps trailing Luke by 20 feet or more. Kisha doesn't seem to be in sight, still paying off the taxi or far enough behind Margie on the steps that I can't see her.... So WHY all the pushing and shoving. Unless maybe they are battling it out for first or at least think they are. They can be fairly sure they are not going to be last since they should know that M/M didn't make their plane.
Well, obviously either Cara & Jamie already checked in before the mat meltdown, or they arrive afterwards. As I'm hoping the NFL cheerleaders win a leg, I'm going with option #1.

Well I just watch a clip and it showed Jamie and Cara dancing and Luke getting bit by a duck.Haven't seen that clip yet, do you have a link, or any more info from it?
Well I just watch a clip and it showed Jamie and Cara dancing and Luke getting bit by a duck.Where? or are you joking?
Nope, it was just on TV during my local noon news. I'd say around 12.15.My local news has dropped their news altogether, sadly, and have opted for info commercials so I didn't get this but am recording now. Thanks for the heads up NoLuck :)
Jamie and Cara are dancing with locals. They were in good spirits.
Luke and Marge were in a canoe and a duck bite Luke on the hand. This followed by a shot of them signing at the pit spot " Luke says he will never like birds again. His hand had some blood on it.
Then there were the same shots of the "battle between Luke, Marge, Lakisha and Jenn.
I noticed in the pictures of the teams at the mat, that one of the sisters has something on her hand...I don't know if it is blood, ink, grease or what. Does anybody have any ideas and what this might mean? :duno:It's most likely coal, from a task at the mines as noted by kaad a few pages back.
puddin is running that DVR every day. It's no wonder why her taser-carrying boyfriend is puzzled why the DVR is so full. :lol:haha .. actually its a DVR Recorder that records to a disc and then I have my PC hardware that lets me record right on my pc which is way cool! We might have to wait until the Ghost whisperer to see that extended promo .. sigh
1.27 at the end of the young and restless. just saw it.This just cracks me up. The lengths that this group goes to. And all for a most excellent show.

Not be a smart a**, but DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. If it isn't recording to a Hard Drive (or some other memory media), it isn't a DVR. It's just a cable box or converter or whatever.
Unfortunately, my HD DVR is a bit primitive in function and I can't transfer from it directly to my pc. Hoping that the new model scheduled for release later this year will allow me that function.
GH is a rerun tonight, but I left it scheduled on my DVR, hoping to record a new promo!
To hell with the eliminated team, I'm watching for Eliza!!!! :yess: :yess: :yess:Of course Ken its alll yours! Too bad the full screen promo was up after Bonnie Hunt and I'm feeling too lazy for a re-do right now :P
I'm stealing that promo for the blog if you don't mind. :waves: :waves:
Anticipating the new promo!
I don't think RFF was built on blind speculation; random musings may be fun, we've always been more keen on the analyzing than the guessing... (What FLFan said!) That said, here's a more mathematical approach to the possible arrival orders of the trio...
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0055.jpg) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR14/ep9/rff-0061.jpg)
Margie's standing at the left edge of the oval pattern, which places her around one-fifth from the left side of the plaque rectangle (http://img.blog.163.com/photo/k4LJ8-YAonyFot6p1hBe0Q==/5368572230802467325.jpg). We see her talking to Phil to the right of the cameraman, and directly behind her is the tip of the Moon Tower. From that we construct the below diagram.
There's only one approach onto the platform pier. Given the way the teams and Phil are arranged, doesn't it suggest the order our three teams arrived? (Remember: teams are unlikely to scramble onto the raised plaque, run three-quarters of 360° around Phil and the greeter, or cut between Phil and earlier teams.)

My take is that Luke and Marge are not happy that Kisha and Jen beat them to the pitstop. Where Tammy/Vic and Cara/Jamie place is ones guess.

Actually my take is that K/J and M/L were neck'n'neck until the fishing/duck thing. The fishing thing being after the 2 clue box smackdowns! Then Luke got bit and it put M/L behind K/J, since the bite had to be examined and filmed!! Margie may not be happy with K/J beating them, but her outrage is directed at K/J for their treatment of Luke. Their dismissiveness and snickering are only making her madder.
The newest promo shows C/J dancing together so it is clearly not a RB. I am speculating that dancing is one of the detour options and T/V opted to do that also. In the picture where the dance lady is giggling behind her hand, the jacket appears to belong to Victor, unless I got my colors mixed up. T/V thereby missed the smackdowns, but got caught in the mat meltdown! Probably M/L decided to forego the dancing option as possibly did K/J, which is why we only saw those 2 teams in action in the previous promos.
Irregardless of language barriers and Jaime's reported Ugly American problem with the dance judge, I am still firmly of the opinion that C/J smoke their detour. Speculating that C/J are 1st and long gone before the mat meltdown. T/V have problems with learning the routine, hence the giggling, so are delayed a bit behind C/J.
To keep M/L's 1st or 4th string going, I speculate: C/J, K/J, T/V and M/L at the mat. M/M arrive in Guilin after the fat lady has sang and are met at the first clue box by Phil.
Of course, once I get home and step thru the promo, I may change my mind.
FLFan
I dont remember if it is one of Phil's blogs or a CBS promo, but it said that two teams yell at one another for 45 minutes at/after the mat.
The web clue tells us that the dancing is a detour. The lady laughing with the jacket that we see might be Luke or Marge?
FLFan,
I believe you mean Margie/Luke's 1st/4th streak. They have not placed 2nd or 3rd.
I'm not sure where this originated ........but if the teams have 45 minutes to kill and then we get that Luke and Marge conf in what is still daylight well then again, this does not bode well for the Brothers sighting at 11pm Guangzhou to Guilin.
For me, I feel the Fast Forward will come into play when Jaime/Cara .... just joking!
Video:Going off-topic for just a moment, I have to ask, puddin. Do you actually watch the shows the promos you snag come at the end of? Last week, it was ATWT, and this week, it's Y&R. I thought I was the only one on the board who watched them!
<< HQ option
You guys! .. please don't make me go kung fooey on you :knuckles:For me, I feel the Fast Forward will come into play when Jaime/Cara .... just joking!
Judging by their reactions, I'd say that Margie and Luke were U-Turned by Kisha/Jen! Then to make it to the mat at the same time as the sisters they'd have to also get the Fast Forward... :taze
The only thing I don't watch are the CBS soaps and other than Lost (ABC) or DOOLS (NBC) I rarely switch off CBS for fear of missing a commercial earning the title *needs a life* :jumpy: :jumpy:

When peach & I write that we heard there was only 1 Fast Forward and it was not used then why are we still talking about a possible Fast Forward?
With the new commerical, I kinda understand why Margie feels that way, imagine hearing a lot of mean things about your child. I just hope that this episode turns out a-okay...I actually am looking forward to the golf tomorrow  :yess:
Puddin, I admire your sacrifices and perseverance to show everyone here all the videos and the screencaps. Thanks! :yess: :jumpy: :hearts: :hearts:
People are speculating that T/V arrived between L/M & J/K, the only problem with that is Phil has said that L/M & J/K arrive within moments of each other. So I think whatever the arrival order is, Luke & Margie & Jen & Kisha arrive back to back in some order. With Tammy & Victor right behind both of their teams. Yep. Makes sense to me.

Looking at the screencaps of the jackets, it looks more like Margie to me than Victor or Tammy...but I'm just a newbie at all this detective stuff. But if it is a detour, we have pictures of Luke on the boat (comodore?) is that also a detour, or is that the roadblock...then what the heck is the coal from? Or do Margie & Luke have a hard time at one of the detours so they switch to another? Okay, I give up, maybe it is Tammy or Victors jacket...LOL
:duno: :duno: :duno: :duno: :duno: :duno: :duno:
Bonnie Hunt is now spoiling the show :lol:Guess that's that, then. Mark & Michael are toast tomorrow night.
I can't believe the editors gave it away? It seems unlikely that the Brothers were randomly shown ... twice.
Mark/Michael doing tasks in daylight? How can that be?No idea! but
 EVIL, EVIL Bonnie Hunt! (:;) How dare she spoil our show.... :meow: oh wait... this is a spoilers thread.... :groan: Oh, nevermind... she's evil anyway.... :knuckles: how dare she outspoil us... :neener:haha this thread is not dead yet ....... drones onnnnnnnnnn
Is it Sunday yet.... seems this thread has been droning on forever.... can't wait till this is over already! :funny:
Mark/Michael doing tasks in daylight? How can that be?
Mark/Michael doing tasks in daylight? How can that be?They may arrive in daylight, but then the sun starts going down...and CBS is trying to make it look less hopeless for Mark and Michael...(Just speculation)
The description holds up .. the poster might have got the time wrong though? So it would seem ......Mark/Michael doing tasks in daylight? How can that be?
They "obviously" were not in Guangzhou at 11 pm. Misidentified I suspect. A lot of American businessmen fly in and out of that place.
So, if the Fishing thing is a Detour (as I suspect), then LaKisha & Jen and Margie & Luke do the Fishing Detour while Cara & Jamie and Tammy & Victor do the Dancing one. Cara & Jamie do great but Tammy & Victor struggle while the dancing instructor laughs at Tammy. So Tammy & Victor most likely comment that their parents will cry themselves to death when they see the siblings dancing so badly -- in the eyes of the dancing instructor, at least. Cara & Jamie come in first, LaKisha & Jen and Margie & Luke arrive about the same time (not exactly sure who arrives first), Tammy & Victor arrive while the arguing goes on, and Phil has to find Mark & Michael and tell them they've been Philiminated.
Belle Book
Welcome to the forum Viv :welcome:
I have been reading y'all for a couple years now and never posted because you people say it all. You all are so amazing. One thing that is bugging me is the fishing with cormorants called as a detour. When I look at the screen caps of Luke, Mark or Michael (still can't tell them apart) and Tammy, I only see one of them *on* the little boat thing. Kisha and Jen are there too but they don't show either of them on the little boat.
Is it possible this is really the roadblock? :duno:
Vivianne
Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if the cormorant thing was actually the Roadblock. It's possible.
Belle Book
I guess Kisha and Jen were just really angry Luke pushed them, and when they reached the next clue box, Luke went head on even though Jen was still the first at the cluebox. I could understand Margie's protect for her son.. but this doesn't mean Kisha/Jen are totally wrong for laughing at Luke. I am sure when we're pissed off for certain times in our life, we do things that are not very nice as well.. this just happens to be one of those "bad" moments for Kisha/Jen.. but I still believe they are very nice people in real life in fact, same goes for Margie and Luke.
Could the coal & the dancing be the Detour instead? (although I would be sick of another Labor/Leisure Detour in China).
I just wanna know if it's Mark & Michael who are, indeed, toast or not. Now knowing they actually do get to do the tasks has me worried.
I think the "his" is just being used in a general sense. Victor can speak and understand Chinese, so he'll be able to understand. I do think the one who won't be able to understand will be Jaime.

Tammy/Victor - both of them could actually generally understand Chinese - quite a spoiler? (Haha... Chinese people of their age - especially with their ranks in their respective jobs should quite master the language with the most number of speakers in the world - as they, specifically Victor actually had lawyer jobs in Asia and China as well, based on his resume online in the OMM site i viewed months ago...)
It seems so improbable that they would have a hard time understanding tasks.
But then again, The Chinese dialect is extremely phonetic. a change in tone could change the whole meaning and essence of the sentence (I'm Chinese and I don't even know how to speak, listen or write Mandarin - but as I'm hearing it from my sisters and other students - uhmmm, I actually don't want to learn it anymore - heck  :groan:) So I won't be surprised either if they have those few interactions that they'll have a hard time with.
Excited for the episode tomorrow(GMT+8)/later(EST)! Hope that spoilers are true UNTIL THIS EPISODE ONLY. Haha
The clues from CBS affiliate WHLT clearly state that someone becomes frustrated when a dancing judge doesn't understand "his" questions. The use of the word "his" seems to indicate to me that a male racer is the one that gets frustrated, not Jamie or Cara. My bet is on Victor.Maybe it's Luke, if indeed, they do perform this task, although it appears that they might not. As someone said, it might be a General Task. I can understand a judge not understanding Luke. :duno:

If "his" does refer to Victor, then maybe he speaks Chinese to the Dancing judge, and she does not understand him. This frustrates Victor and he (or Tammy) utter, "Our parents will cry themselves to death".
In short:
We have three more episodes before the Finale. (just wanted to put this in too  )

I do think the one who won't be able to understand will be Jaime.Just like here, China has a bunch of accents that are difficult to understand. If the woman speaks Chinese and has a heavy accent, Victor may not understand it. Not everyone who speaks Chinese can speak clearly.
:waves: No overtime sports anything! The race will start on time here 8:00pm ET. We ask those that might watch on channel 5? and don't get commercials to please not get ahead of us with the show updates. We like to watch it together

Herc’s Seen Things Get Nasty
On Tonight’s AMAZING RACE!!
I am – Hercules!!
CBS is billing tonight’s edition of “The Amazing Race” as boasting “the most memorable pit stop ever.”
Two twentysomething contestants – deaf college grad Luke Adams and Amazonian marketing assistant Jennifer Hoffman – get into physical confrontations, and Jen’s language turns mean.
“I called him a bitch because it was a bitch move,” says Jen. That’s just the start of the unsportsmanlike behavior that continues well after Phil Keogan informs the contestants of their weekly rankings.
Tame stuff compared to the blows we’ve seen traded recently on cable’s “The Bad Girls Club” and “The Road Rules/Real World Challenge,” to be sure, but unusually uncivilized for “Race.”
The pit stop becomes memorable when Jen, Luke and their teammates arrive at the episode’s finish line almost simultaneously, and host Keogan adds fuel to the fire with uncharacteristically Probstian episode-ending inquiries.
The big destination this week is Guilin, China, where absurdly fabulous Chinese-American Tammy Jih and bossy big bro Victor come to regret not paying closer attention in Chinese school when they discover which tasks will soon be assigned them. The good news is Tammy & Victor both speak Mandarin, and Tammy visited Guilin earlier for spring break.
It’s an especially tricky week for dwarf stuntmen brothers Mark & Michael, penalized with an extra cosmotological task and forced to start in last place for rule-breaking.
There’s also a vicious bird attack, the teams have to choose between choreography and calligraphy, and the redheaded cheerleaders run into trouble when they, rather predictably, choose choreography.
I remind everyone that the people who complain most about reality shows are always the ones most often caught by their moms masturbating to “American Gladiators.”
8 p.m. Sunday. CBS.
I bet that is ink from the Caligraphy detour, not coal on Kisha's hand!
It looks like Hercules from AICN has already watched it:QuotePublished on Sunday, April 19, 2009 - 12:31am

Thanks to Joab's excellent find:QuoteOn the 24th morning, she reached the hotel at 7.30am in the morning and started working. Because filming will begin on the next day, they have to finish all the preparation by today and ensure that nothing goes wrong. She talks about how the foreigners (production team) does not have the habit of taking an afternoon nap and some of them didn't even take their lunch. She worked for the entire day and only ate a few biscuits and felt awful. We were able to make contact but she was unable to tell us more:
kept ourselves busy with making the props. J.R told us that the props must be done by 9.30pm and transported up Die Cai Shan to be prepared and put into place. Then the four of us (Seth, J.R and Nora), together with another 2 masters at making props from Guilin, had to give up the idea of eating a proper meal to rush out the props. At around 8pm, the props were still not done but they had to move them up to the mountain already.QuoteHello,
Looks like you guys are big fans of the show!
I'm not very good with dates; usually just remember which day of the week it is. Thinking back, I'm not very sure with the dates, sorry!
... we couldn't know exactly what the activities are.
My guess is that she added a week to the dates, perhaps just looked at a calendar in error?
Anyway, we can tie this in with Neobie's excellent detective work, hopefully he will add his nice summary here! :hearts:
what are the boards for? learn Chinese?Lucky guess! ,, I'm still not sure where the "coal" idea came from though?
Okay...no mountain yet? So wonder if maybe they do something there before they leave Guilin after the PitStop??Neobie has brought up that theory in the timeline thread ;)
Or did I miss it? I was late to the party...
OK so I'm calmed down enough to rewatch (Damn Raymond! (:;))I can't believe people don't read the warnings.

He gave away the end and even said he was sorry if he spoiled us. I wouldn't expect it from someone thats been here for quite sometime. Hes lucky I did not ban him forever! No kidding and no breaks this time.OK so I'm calmed down enough to rewatch (Damn Raymond! (:;))I can't believe people don't read the warnings.
They do read them. It is just that they are watching on the other side of the world and think they are in synch with us, when they are not. Usually, anyway....I didn't see what happened this time.

Or a was it a Fran/Barry? Or Gretchen? On that bridge? That was hysterical!! :funny:
Beautiful pics , puddin!

There was mention of a steel factory in some of the possible sites for Guilin. Since coal is used in the production of steel, the leap was taken that the black marks on Kisha's hands was coal dust.
Drums of Life
The Folded Brocade Mountains are also known as the Longevity Mountains. The saying goes,
"Having passed the cavern shrine,
Your years will last past ninety-nine,
The summit is a guarantee,
You'll live to see five score and three."
Drum sticks available for Y2 a person.
Oh God. The "fighting" third team?dum dum dum dummmmmmmmmmm
William Shakespeare - "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" should really be rewritten for Guilin. World Race Productions pulled some shady deals in this episode.
First is the 22 hour pit stop.
Second is not showing some kind of hours of operation. The first 4 teams would all have arrived in Guilin airport by midnight, with the delay on CZ3303 not putting Jaime/Cara and Victor/Tammy and Margie/Luke in much after Kisha/Jen on Shenzhen 9637. OK, so they have at least until after sunrise at 656am to do something. Since nothing is shown, they has to have been an unshown hours of operation halt. If not, then all teams would have arrived at the first clue box at the beauty salon at its opening and they clearly did not.
Third, the editors pulled their ususal stunts in attempting to make it look competitive for Mark/Michael. After being stradned overnight in Guanzhou airport they would not have left Guilin airport before 11am. I look to Chateau to provide some confirmation if possible, but I see no way(except really strange hours of operation) that Jaime/Cara would not have completed their ROADBLOCK and DETOURS before that.
I see TARA in the lurker tray below! Don't think we forgot about you and the spoilers that you brought us! Thank you TARA! You truly rock! All the spoilers were good! :jumpy: :jumpy:hi pudding
Oh God. The "fighting" third team?
What are you talking about? It's clear, now that Mark & Michael are officially decoys, that Jaime & Cara are Margie & Luke are in the F3 together. The "fighting" third team is clearly either Tammy & Victor regressing, or Kisha & Jen going back to fighting again.Oh God. The "fighting" third team?
Is it in Jaime and Cara's insider videos?? :yess: if so... else :'(...
Oh yeah, the stress of the race de-beutifies Cara and Jaime though... :'(
I'm just asking if that "fighting" third team was mentioned in Jaime/Cara's insider videos posted above ^_^ :lol:What are you talking about? Cross-cultural studies have shown that smiling is used as a means of communicating emotions throughout the world.[1] Among animals, the exposure of teeth, which may bear a resemblance to a smile, is often used as a threat or warning display - known as a snarl - or a sign of submission. In chimpanzees, it can also be a sign of fear.:monkey
Reality TV World: Based on the fact it was already daylight out when your flight arrived in Guilen, it looked like you had to say overnight in Guangzhou and arrived in Guilen quite a bit behind everyone else, is that correct?
Mark: Yeah, well what happened was we missed our earlier flight so we ended up having to spend the night at the airport. So that definitely delayed us, we got in later that morning. The only way we actually picked up time was there was an obstacle... where [the contestants] had to wait for the park to open up. They actually didn't show that on the episode, they cut out a whole sequence of climbing 500 stairs to this temple in China.

BTW, I would've done the Choreography Detour as well -- I'm not a great writer.
I signed a contract, can't reveal too much!
Just a little bit: the teams' first destination out of the airport was actually the Folded Brocade Mountains; they spent a night camping on the hill, but it was cut!
The ladies and fishermen were paid for their appearance. The background crew work really hard for any show, especially this kind of reality show where nothing must go wrong! The production assistants arrived in Guilin a week beforehand to prepare. It's not easy. Of course the crew here in China must be credited too!
I can see that everyone here is dedicated to the show. I'm moved and have since fallen in love with the show as well! Although the show has been aired, I can't reveal too much because of the contract. I seek your forgiveness.
First of all, the entire crew consists of no less than ten people. I didn't count, but I'm guessing around twenty. Preparations were done by both the American and Chinese crews: the Chinese side was a film company from Beijing - I can't remember the name. The Guilin leg was organized by the Taoyuan Travel Agency. Planning and preparation took a week, with the Beijing crew arriving first to pave the way. Route planning and the recces were run by CBS the day before. Actually, every task and every location has been tested the day before by the crew. I followed my Boss around the entire circuit in one day.
I received the teams the day the planes arrived. Each team is followed by two crew members: one for lighting, one for filming. When the teams run out of the airport - that's the time they change their equipment. They've got huge packs, I'm thinking that's the equipment, that they threw at the crew, and they tossed out all the old stuff. The (main) crew followed onto the vehicles and trailed the taxis the whole way - that's how they get a lot of the footage.
The process was really interesting! Hoho!
They actually cut out a lot of the fight between the mother/son and the blacks. I was watching while they were fighting. Because the son had trouble communicating, he eventually cried :groan:. His mum kept trying to console him, saying "Let it go, forget it...", but he couldn't calm down. In the end two members of the crew, including my Boss [name], tried to resolve the issue, and it took them a long time.
I thinking now that it's over it's OK if I speak. Those old folks (at the tasks) don't know much; the crew wouldn't tell them much, and they'd simply do as they're told. Sometimes they'd be confused over why everyone was in such a hurry, and sometimes they'd just crowd around to see what was going on. Some of the crew got upset over this. The crew and the production assistants were really worked hard, some had to work overnight without going home. It was so bad it could take your life. (This is a similar expression to Victor's quote).
We're not allowed to help the contestants, not even be seen by them. Otherwise there'd be no point to the race!
MM, I know who you are. I am Z, haha!
Don't forget the contract is three years!
Victor and Tammy should let their next driver call dispatch, and tell them that if any foreigners get onto a cab with a camera, and constantly scream "Go go go!", they should first drive those teams to Shijiazhuang. They should call the other companies as well, so no matter what taxi the other teams get on they'd be headed for Hubei Province.
The mother had been telling Luke not to dwell upon it, but seeing how upset her son was she had to say a few words. They cut a lot out of that, she kept saying "Let it go, forget it..." But Luke felt very wronged; he couldn't calm himself down and ran off. His mother did say "Enough, it's pointless to continue arguing like this".
When they were filming this, I was standing by the side. Both sides were in the wrong, the blacks were indeed jeering.
[...]how Victor still sounds sissy when he speaks Chinese...
Someone got fired last season after his photos were posted online.
I know no Chinese, but I have heard that there are 4 different endings for words. Some of them involve an upward pitch and some a downward pitch. Those upward pitches could sound "girlish" to observers who know nothing about the Chinese language, but that is built into the Chinese language and should be accepted as the way it is for about 700 million chinese males. If you pay close attention, in spite of all the tones, Victor keeps this nerve-wrecking accent he uses when he yells something in an über-chipper way. I lol'd a lot from this
If I am wrong on this, those who speak Mandarin should feel free to correct me.

As a native mandarin speaker (and with a Tiawaneese accent), his speech still sounds sissy.
I think Victor has children, or maybe they're Tammy's? Found it on their facebook page
Why are we even discussing if Victor is gay/sissy or not? Does it matter? :duno:
I thought this was an amazing episode, because Kisha and Jen came in first.. (not Margie/Luke or Tammy/Victor anymore)
And throughout the episode, we don't really know who will get first.. until the pitstop results came.. unless you love looking at spoilers.
And Tammy and Victor are so supportive of each other now, same with Kisha and Jen.. remembered how Kisha's attitude towards Jen was on episode 2?
And Margie's love for her son!! Amazing!!
As well as how Cara continued to be supportive of Jaime, who... is not very nice.
A good final 4, i say! :yess:

A better one when Mel and Mike was there... :'( :'(
Here's something I've been wondering about. Unless Margie/Luke & Kisha/Jen's supposed 45-minute meltdown happened off the mat, how oh how did Jaime/Cara fall behind the other 3 teams by 45 minutes or more?
After all these weeks of telling you about the "Most Memorable Mat Meltdown" of all time, we finally got to see it last night. What an episode. The throwdown between Luke and Margie and LaKisha and Jen was so intense. All of us in production knew that both teams were really going head-to-head throughout the entire leg, but no one could have predicted it would come down to a foot race to the mat and one of the most emotionally charged Pit Stops I have ever been a part of. It was downright uncomfortable.
Safe to say, Luke is not afraid of confrontation. I was surprised at the intensity level at which he ran this leg. Never backing down, never letting LaKisha or Jen get in his way. Last week I thought Margie was the driving force behind their Team, but this week Luke stepped up and took the lead. On the flip side, I always knew that Jen had that tenacity in her; you don't play Division I collegiate sports and not know how to compete. That’s part of her DNA.
It was one of the longest times we've ever spent on a mat after the teams arrived. We were there for easily half an hour discussing who was to blame for the pushing and shoving at the cluebox, who behaved poorly, etc., etc. No matter how many times LaKisha said that she wasn't making fun of Luke when she laughed, Margie never bought it. I don’t think LaKisha was making fun of Luke. I think she just has a nervous laugh and that's what she does in those situations.
By that point in the day, Margie was so fed up with the way the two Teams fought throughout the entire leg that anything was going to set her off...and it did. I have to say, though, even with all the yelling and arguing at the mat, one of the most comical parts of the entire scene was watching Victor and Tammy, who had no idea what was about to erupt when they landed at the Pit Stop.
Still that begs the question: Why did Jaime/Cara fall 30 minutes behind?
Ya, but I don't think it would've been that long.
From what I understand Jamie & Cara were almost 2 hours ahead of Mark & Michael arriving at the pitstop and why Mark & Michael were told 30 minutes I have no idea but it is false and we might not know until the show is over per interviews/Tarcon.Do we know if they made M&M do the unaired mountain/drum task - or were they so far behind they didn't bother?
Cara & Jamie were no where near being eliminated! I also hear that the Brothers knew they were going to be eliminated and decided to shop before hitting the pitstop and even had they not stop to shop the closest they would have been behind Jamie & Cara would be 45 minutes
