Title: Comments and Questions for the Racers
Post by: georgiapeach on February 12, 2009, 11:10:26 PM
This is the spot to post any questions or comments for the racers, as they come to discuss the current race, and perhaps how it compared to their own.

Please give them a big RFF :welcome3:!!

We hope they will read through your questions here, and then reply to them in the Racers Speak Out  (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,18392.msg375525.html#msg375525)thread as they can.

Please remember to post here , and not in the Racers thread itself, thanks!

Hi Joe and Bill

Welcome to the Forum. I have a question for you guys. I know you had a long wait for the train connection from Bangkok in Season One. Was there some reason why you didnt fly down to Phuket or where ever you were headed? Were you restricted to train, bus or cabs?

:bigwelcome Joe and Bill, we are thrilled you are here!

Hey Great to be here!   The bus/plane thing in season one Thailand leg was a mandatory 'no fly' leg.  We had to take some form of ground transport.

The next question;   We loved pissing off Eric and Danielle during All Stars.  It wasn't really that difficult and it was entertaining.  Although the way it was edited it looked like he was pissing us off.    We didn't really care what he called us on the show. :neener:

Hi All.  Toni (Mom) checking in.  I'll do my best to keep up with you, just remember I'm a bit slower than most of you computer literates.  I'll just state for the record that all my guesses as to winners, locations, etc. throughout our race were wrong and that's while I was in the midst of running it!

Thanks for all the fan support.

Hello everyone!

I really enjoyed watching TAR14 last night!

Man, i'm the kind of guy who gets misty eyed, and when they were at the start line, I could feel the excitement welling up in me too. That's such an amazing moment, and yeah, I teared up a little. ;) I'm also often accused by my fellow TAR13 racers as being Switzerland, and liking everyone. So it pains me to say that right now, yeah, I like everyone in TAR 14. I'll brace myself now, i'm sure I'll hear about it.

Luke won me over in a heartbeat. What an incredible guy. You could see the excitement on his face in the car to the airport, and that's the kind of racer I personally always love. Not the most competitive, or smartest, but the one who's the happiest to be there, and never gives up.

I'm so damn jealous of that bungee jump! OMFG! When Bill and I were chosen, he agreed to skydive and bungee jump if the challenge called for it. He DID do the one in Acapulco at Elimination Station, but that was tiny and lame compared to the incredible one the TAR14 people did! Wow! Bill, you got off light. I'm going on record as saying I want to go do that. Mark my words, I will.

Glad to see i'm in such good company here! Look forward to the dialog!

Love to Peach, Pudding and the other RFF folks.

Mark

To Team Guido: How epic was the Rob and Amber elimination? What do you think of them as fellow racers? (No offence to Romber fans!)

We were just outside the post office being hidden by production so we would not interfere with the shot.  We were sitting with the beauty queens who finished after we did that day.  We could hear all of the shouting going on between Rob and Mirna but we could not tell who was ahead in the mail sort.  According to production, Rob did find an envelope (There was more than one) but he pushed it onto the floor.   All of the early finishers that day were gathered in the restaurant at the hotel having lunch when Uchenna and Joyce came in with the good news.  Rob and Amber were eliminated!  The room erupted into laughter AND applause.
To answer your other question, Rob was quite nice when not on the race.  He and I sat up all night the second night at the ranch in the Andes keeping the fire going so we would all stay warm.  He is a good guy, just doing his best to stay relevant on Reality TV, if you know what I mean.  Joe and I met Amber after season one of Race.   She was always nice to us when we went to benefits around the country.

Thanks for sharing and being so active Guidos! Appreciate it! Anyways I probably have 1 more question.

What do you guys think of Dustin and Kandice? Were they unfairly targeted by some because simply they were blonde and "fake". Did you guys feels they were "fake"? What do you think of their competitiveness?

Anyways, just refreshing the memory, nice quote in episode 1, Joe: “It seems that maybe the people from Race 10 aren’t tired yet. The Gutsy Grannies here.”

Unfairly targeted!  We liked Dustin and Kandice.  Kandice was particularly kind to us during All Stars.  We don't think they were fake....they were very strong competitors...Dustin and Kandice wanted to team up with us at the intersection, but Mirna and Charla beat us to intersection box!  If only......sigh~

Thanks Tina! :hearts:

I was thinking your season may be jealous of the self navigation we are hoping to see this race, I know you and Ken would have ROCKED that given the opportunity!

I was wondering about the bungy, I would have died of fright , but wouldn't it be wise to have the weakest team member do this? Since it didn't require any strength or anything??

What do you think of the lack of airport footage?

That appearance on Daytime was great, but those hosts were boring and they rushed Tina off as she was talking about how she and Ken got back together.

Tina: Ken drove his belongings 43 straight hours to make it at 5 a.m. on my birthday!
Host: Uh that's great. Gotta go. Goodbye.

What is that? I'm going to drive to the studios and scold the producers for cutting off a great comeback story.  :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles: :knuckles:

That's funny - I actually never saw us in that shot, but I did hear we were in it. Yep, that's us, dressed alike and all! It was hilarious watching them dance.

SOO.....the sports bra....well, I actually believe Starr when she says she didn't push it off the ledge, since she's been so adamant about it and we're friends now. I think she'd tell me the truth. I guess it hurled itself off of the ledge! ;-)

When I met Anita & Arthur at Rockefeller Center in NYC, I was amazed at how many people flocked to them. They certainly made an impression on TAR fans. People hugged them :hugs:, had their picture taken with them and as we were walking to the middle of the Rock (why did we do so much walking, Peach?), fans were behind us, whispering, "That's Anita & Arthur!" or "I'm right behind Anita & Arthur!" or "who's this Asian guy walking with Anita & Arthur?" Ok, maybe that last statement wasn't said, but for a team that was unfortunately eliminated after one leg, Anita & Arthur were very loved.

One of the truly good people I've had the opportunity to meet.

Holy [bleep], I agree with Dandrew. I feel like the world's going to implode or something.

(Kidding! I didn't hate you as much as some people, but I did wind up calling you guys Dandruff after a while just because you were so damn hard to get rid of. Then we got "marching" and "dancing". Thank you!)
Title: Re: Comments and Questions for the Racers

1. We beat Kelly/Chrsity by about 30 minutes we would estimate. We were on the mat with phil for a while then stood on the side for about 15 minutes waiting for them to come in.

2. We think the root of why people generally give us a hard time is because we were so successful on the race. Obviously we did it in a rather unorthodox fashion but thats ok because we think we were involved in some great moments that makes our season of the most memorable in the shows history. So we have no problems with that. The race is one of those show's that just about most people would do so when they see people on the race not doing something the "right"  way then they are the targets of criticism and that was the case with us we think.

I told you this before TARCon and I'll say it again, that march in Russia was the funniest I've ever seen. I could not stop laughing. You definitely have one of the best moments on TAR and probably on reality TV every.

Losing stuff happens and as a parent you get used to lost sweatshirts, basketball shoes, drivers licenses.  You've dealt with it so many times that it actually isn't earth shattering news to have your child tell you they lost something.   Truth is I was more concerned about how disappointed Dallas was.  When I saw the look in his eyes I knew he was so upset there was no way I could get mad or upset.  I really just wanted to hold it together for him.  I kept telling him not to worry we'd figure something out.

When we were eliminated I just knew we were going to spend the next day doing another roadblock (trying to get a new passport, etc) so we were headed on another adventure together.

I think we both cried that night, but it was more about not getting to be in the final leg and see everyone.

Toni you were so great on the race and a great mom! Sad you couldnt make the F3! It would have been so great!!

QUESTION:

Do you know what time did you depart from the 10th pitstart? We didnt get time for anyone as you know which was really strange!  Do you know?

Okay, I've got one for everybody:

Did you think there was anybody in your season who got a really bad edit? Like they were completely different to what we saw on TV?

First remember they can only show what you give them.  So if you saw it then the person said it or did it.  It might not be in the full context, but it really did happen.

Having said that - I think the Terrence and Sarah from our season that everyone saw aren't the people we know.  They are both incredible gracious, kind, humble, generous, warm people.  While we had heard other teams talking about  the two of them we had never seen any of the negative interation between them.  While I'm sure it makes for good TV I'd just go on the record as saying if you ever are blessed with the opportunity to meet either of them I promise you'd love them.

I don't remember anything exact (and my handy dandy notebook of all those details was lost with our pack), but I think we were about 30 to 45 minutes ahead of Kenny and Tina.  The 4 of us had to hang out waiting for the submarine to open.  We knew we had a few hours on Nick and Starr so we actually went walking around looking for food and could only find one little store open and they wouldn't take american dollars.  Between our two teams we scrouged up enough rubles for 2 snickers bars and split them for breakfast.

I'll have to look back at the episode and see if we can see the time the gate opened to let us in.  I remember we sat outside for around 3 hours and the ride to get there took about 30 mins or so.  It was definitely just getting light out.

(Wow, my poor old brain just can't remember things the way it used to).

Thanks Toni! You confirmed my POV that Terence and Sarah are really a nice team and got a relatively bad edit! :)

Toni, here's a rather personal question. Did you felt even abit of disapproval when Dallas was getting along with Starr while on the race. Like maybe you might be thinking that Dallas should focus more on the race.

:)

All questions are fair game so no problem.

I love Nick & Starr and I'd race against them any day.  Dallas is very competitive so I never worried that anything would get in the way of the race.  We had a great time with them and all the teams at the pitstops, BUT when they said go, it was game on and no way did Dallas want to get beat by a girl.  Check out the monastery in Moscow.  The crew told us they couldn't believe the foot race getting in and out of there.  At one point we just pushed our way past them - we were really tired of them winning every leg at that point.

Thank you Toni!! Love your comments about the race, I wondered if y'all would be a little bit jealous of the tasks and especially of the self navigation!

I too can tell you all that Terence and Sarah are wonderful caring people who can NOT do enough for anyone they meet. They were incredibly kind and exceedingly generous with their time to me and to the fans at TARcon. Sarah came out sick and nearly voiceless to a breakfast with some of the fans because she wanted to be sure not to disappoint anyone. Lovelovelove them both!! Terence made sure that everyone was looked after and that everyone had fun in NYC. In no way did he even slightly resemble his edit. They  both could not have been more warm and welcoming to us all.

I will echo what peach said about Terence and Sarah. Both are very nice, especially Terence who I had a chance to talk with during our lunch. I learned that Terence and Kynt have become good friends. You could not have seen any more of a difference from what you saw on TV to what you see in person with Terence. Super person.

We completely agree with Toni can say that Terence and Sarah are wonderful people. They were both here in Eugene for the Olympic Trials and we stayed with Terence for a week in NYC for TARcon. They are both totally generous and went to extraordinary measures to make us welcome in NYC. We thouroughly enjoyed our time with them and hope to spend more in the future. The "LOVEMORE" shirts they wore on TAR truly reflect who they are.

I've gotta say, I didn't hate John and Vic per se. I just think he was a little too intense about the competition (I can sympathize here, I'm hyper competetive myself.) Sure Johnathan was arguably the most abusive racer ever, but competition does things to people, and if you see him outside that environment, its pretty obvious that he really loves Victoria.

I have one question for Arthur:

we have asked ourselves the same question, but we have no idea, as they were off the mat when we got there

perhaps if we had taken the stairs we would have got to the mat before them, but I made an emotional decision not to do the stairs, and TAR has little room for emotional decisions. if I had known that they had secularized the stair crawl with the drums, we might have gone that way. Anita read the detour and was yelling "I know the answer. I know the answer!" realizing that they would ask the number of stairs, which was given in the instructions.

I know the Roadblock in India where you were eliminated was horrible. After how many minutes did you realize that you don't need to grab a clue and then open it?

Title: Re: Comments and Questions for the Racers

Hi guys! Mooyou here! First, Is there still space for me to ask questions to racers here? :-[ ZOMG, I'm so stupid not to look at this section of the site that much, I never expected that so much racers were already here posting!

I have some questions that hopefully amazing racers could answer, I wish that I could actually attend TARCon!!  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(, but plane tickets are waayy too expensive, and applying US visas here in the Philippines are also expensive, grueling and hard, lines are long and almost takes forever to finish. Moreso, if you don't have enough reasons to go, I'd be denied. If I say, "I just wanna go to TARCon! - even just for one night!" would be ridiculous as well  :funny: But I hope that one day, I could really attend the TARCon in the US... anyway, here are the questions!

First, I'll ask Team Guido from TAR 11! :waves:

Hi guys! I've been fan of yours in All Stars! (sorry I wasn't able to appreciate the first race, I was still a child then... :() I must say, had you guys not been delayed to the Poland flight, you would have kicked ass in the race! I was sad that you were eliminated earlier in the game than what I have expected. Anyway, my question is that, Considering how strict airports are with people being late from their boarding time, how were you able to run to the tarmac on your flight to Warsaw? Did you just run there, neglecting the security? And how hard was it to catch flights from Mozambique to Tanzania? How come there has been huge time differences? Is there or do you think there was a lapse by production or unfortunate events that occured there? I rather turned off by that one part, The race absolutely depended on the flights and airport itself than you guys racing.

Thanks and cheers! :jumpy:

Next up, with Jen from TAR 12! :waves:

Hey Jen! I honestly am saddened that you and Nate were the last team eliminated. First question, How did you feel being so close to the finish line, and getting eliminated in the penultimate leg of the race, considering that you both performed well. Second, Have you seen the U-turn first in India, would you have used it against Kynt and Vyxsin? Lastly, we all have seen your troubles with the donkey in Ireland and the boats detour in Croatia, just how long did you finish those tasks?

Hope that you and Nate are doing fine after the race! Thanks! :hearts:

Next up with the cast from TAR 13...

Hi Christy!  :waves: you really earned my support as you progressed through the race! I had hoped that both you and Kelly run the race all throughout, here's my question... After your elimination, we saw a glimpse of you in the 10th leg, (picture at the pages before) why were the both of you separated from other teams? We saw in elimination station that the both of you reunited with the other teams at the finish line. What exactly did you do there? Did production consider you as decoys? Just how long did you find out that your taxi was just in the parking lot at the first roadblock in the second leg and how long did you find the "treasure" after you have done the detour?

Thanks a lot and more power! :hearts:

Hi Mom Toni!  :waves:

It was shocking that both you and Dallas were eliminated on the penultimate leg because of the passports. First question, we saw Phil coming from somewhere and eliminating the both of you, did the production say how long and how far were you away from the rest of the teams? And how struggling was it to beg in Russia? And what was your first reaction when you knew that your passports and all the money you have saved and collected were gone? Wasn't the production allowed to lend you some, at least to finish the leg?

Thanks! :hearts:

Hi Tina! :waves:

At first, you were edited as rather in an "unlikeable" fashion, but towards the end, being loved by many alongside Ken, my questions for you are, Just how pressuring is the Speedbump? We could see that if there had just been so many Sikh Indians come and go the water station, you could have been there for quite a long time. And did you find it rude that the Indian tailor in the detour later in that leg pushed you? and lastly, we see you as a person who helped a lot of those teams in the race, do you regret having helped those teams?

Thanks, and I hope that you win the Best Job in the World!  :hearts:

I'll follow up with some more questions later with the other teams...

Thanks guys! and thank you for making the Amazing Race memorable!

Thank you for asking. I"ll talk bes anytime.

Our free range bees are doing quite well this year. Over winter we only lost 1 hive of 9 (a 20 to 30% loss is not unexpected) and the surviving 8 are very strong. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) hasn't significantly affected backyard beekeepers like us, it is more of a problem with migratory hives, constantly moved around for pollination. April is a crucial month here as there is very little nectar flow and if a hive is too strong it may eat up all it stores, so we may need to feed any light hives. Our local Farmer's Market raised their fees for this year so "Bees Here Now", honey hand made by hip bees, most likely won't be there.

WoW!  Great questions!  We would have kicked someone's ass had we made some of the flights we missed.  The airports in South Africa and Mozambique were crowded with pilgrims going to the Haj.  We didn't have to run on the tarmac in Warsaw, we were on the tarmac in Kilimanjaro.  There wasn't much security there, it is a one room airport!  The flight situation from Mozambique through Johannesburg to Tanzania was what I mentioned above, the Haj....it was a long nightmare of a wait.  I think production did not realize how bad that was going to be!  They were able to bunch us all up on Zanzibar, but then the flight to Poland was delayed for the two teams in last place and that left us stranded in Kilimanjaro....another missed flight.  HOWEVER...Eric and Danielle were there with us and they won the race.  Like Bertram says, "anyone can win this race".  We don't balme production for anything that happened, it is what it is!  I would say we hated the intersection in Krakow more.  Joe was the first contestant finished with his sausage, had we not been tied to Eric and Danielle through the Intersection.....who knows....xxoo Guido

Race Love to all and sorry to be away for so long.....MooYou had some great questions and Thank you for the wonderful support!!!! ;)
I don't regret helping anyone or getting help from anyone on the Race......it is part of the game.  Yes we wanted to win the $1 million but I have always believed that you do not get ahead in life by stepping on or trampling anyone....you see people going up to the top and back down in the Race and in life.  Kenny and I were most proud of not being derogatory to any of the teams in our interviews etc throughout the entire Race...does that mean we never got mad or angry if someone tricked us...No...but we chose to focus our energy on the tasks and the Race and more importantly our marriage.  The Reader in India pushing me back was only because he was afraid I would see his numbers...but we had ours right anyway...I though he was cute and quite the actor. Our Speedbump day in India was tough and much was not shown....we had to backtrack as we got the bird clue and were on our way to do the Speed Bump when we had to take the bird clue back....so our feet were washed in the antiseptic basins multiple times - tee hee - not to mention taking our shoes off and on so many times.....I did feel we should be reverent and kind when serving the holy water and that spirit really calmed us down....after having cleared the masses of cars and Tuk Tuks from the streets.....we really gained ground when we realized that other teams were struggling with the numbers....so all in all we lucked out and stayed to Race another day!  Gotta give Bertram credit for designing such intriguing, frustrating and challenging tasks - I still think Season 13 had the most diverse cast...and the most Awesome of course ;)  XOXO, T

One for the Guido's

Your attempt to hold up the other teams so they would miss their flight in season one is regarded as the first truly evil action of TAR (although it is quite tame in comparison to later seasons). What was your motivation for it, and at what point did you realize that the situation had gotten WAY out of hand?
Title: Re: Comments and Questions for the Racers

This goes for any of the racers. I noticed from the insider videos from this week that Christie & Jodi decided to forego their rolling luggage and go with the regular backpacks to lighten their load.

I've also noticed in other seasons that teams will start to chuck things. Did any of our friends decide to do the same thing along the race and did you have to get rid of an item you thought you would never part with? Did you have to get rid of what you thought was a valuable along the way?

Also, when you left the Starting Line, how much adrenaline did you have when Phil said, "Go!"

And for Team Guido, when you were stuck in Africa with Eric & Danielle, Bill went out and tried to get the pilot's attention with his small bell and whistle. Did he think he could actually get the plane to stop and what was Joe thinking when this was all happening?

Well it all went down like this, contrary to what you have seen and heard through the years...we wanted to mix it all up and delay the teams a few minutes, not really thinking they would ever miss their flights because the teams were being led by a representative fromt the airlines to take them to their waiting flight.  The gate where we all lined up was a security check station that led to all airline gates.  They checked your passport and then you went through to your flight.  If you watch the footage from the episode, Joe and I let a family go ahead of us, to be polite and to make the line longer for the approaching teams.  When Kevin and Drew reached us we were the very next people in this security line to show our passports.  We had not taken our passports out of our pockets yet when Drew shoved Emily passed Joe saying it was their turn to get to the waiting flight they were in a hurry.  Emily never had her passport checked in all the commotion!  Kevin and Drew started screaming that we started the whole thing and Nancy got bumped by Joe's backpack in the scuffle.  Now while I admit we got in line ahead of all these teams to slow them down, we did not push and shove as is believed by most of you!  We were there first, and we felt we had the right to stay in line.  If Kevin and Drew had waited about one more minute, we would have been through security and none of the above would have unfolded.  Because Kevin and Drew were the 'good guys' and Joe and Bill were the 'bad guys', that is how the whole thing unfolded!  When we got to India, production had a meeting and everyone was reminded not to get physical.  We had been threatened on the steps of the Victor Emmanuel monument that something bad was going to happen to us by another team.  Of course, we regret the way the whole thing unfolded in Tunis, but there was blame all around, not just to Team Guido.  We suppose that if 'Tunis' had not happened, the rest of that season would probably have been very boring!  The buzz that the Tunis airport incident created, kept the TAR ratings going, especially after 9/11 had been such a bad time for television in general.
The best thing that came from that whole episode came from Margaretta.  She told me before we appeared on the Rosie show the first time to just "say your sorry" and the whole thing will go away!  She was right, I was set to explain the whole incident the way I have just done, and it sounds like sour grapes.  Although it was the way it really happened.  We miss Margaretta!

And for Team Guido, when you were stuck in Africa with Eric & Danielle, Bill went out and tried to get the pilot's attention with his small bell and whistle. Did he think he could actually get the plane to stop and what was Joe thinking when this was all happening?

It was Joe.   He wanted to go all the way up to the plane's door before it was closed.  He opted not to do this when Danielle refused to go with him.  She was, by then, crying!  The plane sat there for about 30 minutes!  Frustrated, Joe decided he needed to do something, ring some bells. OY!  I was laughing, but also hoping he would not get into trouble.  This was the infamous airport where Colin was almost arrested for not paying his cab fare!
We later found out there was bad blood between Air Tanzania and KLM.  Apparently Air Tanzania had been delayed before and did not notify KLM, so they decided to teach the airline a lesson and not allow us on the flight.   We all had carry-on backpacks, but the Captain was afraid we would delay the flight by loading luggage?  Who knows what might have been if we had been able to make that flight.

Love everyone who has come!
For team Guido:

How surprised were you when you were last, but then found that Nancy and Emily made a terrible mistake?

When we arrived at Krabi it was very early morning.  When we got to the Temple we walked past about 12 pairs of shoes that were obviously from other teams and camera crews!  We knew then that we were about to go home!  What happened instead shocked and saddened us!  Nancy and Emily had become very close to us by this time.  We had spoken to them about the Tunis incident and helped them with a quick way across the river in Bangkok after we won the FF.

Phil came over to us to talk before he greeted us to check us in to the pit stop and said we would have to wait a few minutes....very unusual!  While we waited in this very quiet Bhuddist temple,  Nancy and Emily came into the area where we were seated.....now we know something really bad is going to happen.

Phil joined us at a special area they had arranged to give us the following information ON CAMERA!
Emily and Nancy had made an error in using the wrong type of transportation in the last leg of the race.   Our mistake was taking a bus instead of private car to the pit stop once we had the fast forward.   It turns out that Nancy and Emily were penalized 24 hours thereby eliminating them instead of Team Guido....we genuinely felt terrible!  We knew for sure we were now the villains of this race.  We wanted to win on our own merits, or lose because of our own mistakes, now we were getting a free pass because Nancy and Emily were being eliminated!

When we went down to the pit stop area of the Temple where the other teams were, you could hear a pin drop.  All of the remaining teams now were aware that Emily and Nancy had been eliminated and Team Guido would live to see another leg!  Well, you could tell they were not happy!  Nancy and Emily were very nice racers to race with, and certainly better competition if you are trying to win a race!  The course was getting tougher and I am sure the other teams, who hated us anyway, but felt we were the stronger of the two competitors.....I know Nancy and Emily would disagree with me!  It was not a good time for us.  We did feel bad for being the reason Emily and Nancy were eliminated, and we could feel the genuine disdain the other teams were directing at us.

That time in the Temple was good for us.  That was when we decided we would eliminate Kevin and Drew next, we would most likely be fighting for third place.  And at that time, maybe we still had a chance at the million, we weren't going to give up.

The full explanation of the Tunis airport thing.  Is that also the story you told Karyn?  Because whatever you seemed to be telling her, the editing certainly seemed to make it look like you were lying.

That said, what did you think of the first three teams gone?  Did you like Matt & Ana, Kim & Leslie, and Pat & Brenda?

Question for Team Guido...

When you were in Krakow, during the intersection where you ate a 25-inch sausage! That was one of my favorite tasks in all-stars!  ;D Was it really hard to eat, because we saw Dustin puked after she finished her sausage... What are the things happened there that were not shown??

Eragon,

You have the essence of it, but the detail is wrong. I recall the intersected team of 4 eating 24 inches total, which is 6 inches each or 12 inches for each normal team. This means Joe/Bill had 12 inches and their partners Eric/Danielle had 12 inches. It also meant that Dustin/Kandice had 12 inches and the ir partners Charla/Mirna had 12 inches.

Thank you Bill for sharing all those memories!!

I never thought that you guys were "villains" though, you were just the race's first strategic players!! But why would you think that it was y'alls fault that Momily went out? It was their decision to not keep looking for the car, in no way were you all responsible that I could see. Just a sad time for both of you because I know you were friends. :ghug:

I still laugh about the plane though! :funny: And didn't the language get a little  (:;) (:;) ??

I will have to look at the DVD to see what was said to Karyn,  I know I wasn't telling the whole truth because Karyn asked a direct question about us delaying the teams, but about pushing Nancy & Emily, that never happened by our will to be mean...Nancy and Emily were pushed into us by someone behind them....remembering, we were the first in this security line, it is hard to shove someone forward past you, when those people are behind you to begin with, isn't it?  It is possible Nancy was bumped by Joe's back pack.  It got very nasty for a few minutes between Drew & Kevin screaming for us to get out of the way, then production stepped in and stopped the chaos, we were allowed to pass in an orderly manner as we had tried to do before Kevin and Drew arrived.

Matt and Ana were very nice people, we were only allowed a few minutes to say hello to them before they were off to sequester.  Because we were always at the front of the pack we did not see much of them except at Songwe Village after they were eliminated.  They were crushed to be the first to go, really nice people.   Kim and Leslie we saw more after the race was over.  We had a blast with them in Las Vegas before the first episode was aired.  Pat and Brenda we called Thelma and Louise, this was a good team, and had they not made the error in NY would have given some very good TV!  Pat and Brenda are very sweet, and competitive!

That sausage was very tasty....but very long! It had to be at least two feet long.   It was not 6 inches as someone earlier said.  We all had to eat the two feet individually.  Joe was the first contestant finished, we had to wait while Eric played the game and farted around pretending to barf.  I probably would have done the same if I knew the team I was paired with would be eliminated.  They showed the most important parts of the task, it was miserable because on the bus trip to Krakow they had given us sack lunches to make sure we were all very full!  We should have known better!
There was much more throwing up than was shown, everyone eventually did throw up, except for Joe.

I have a question for the Guidos!

First of all before the question, I love you guys!! you are most likely my favorite team out of all 14 seasons!

ok the question.

(I'm not sure if this was already asked in this forum, or an interview on TV...I dont keep track :-[)

BUT! ok, seeing how you guys were on season one, the baby of all seasons, everything was so undeveloped. but, how did you feel when you got to be on season 11 when you got to experience the imporved all extra deveolped race course.
Like, the clue box being an indivudal box made for the show. Not a wooden box. and the mat being a picture of the world and not a yellow plastix slippery square that you fell on in France :P?

lol I'm sorry if my question dosent make grammical sence or even sounds logical but I think you should be able to get what I'm talking about. :P

Everyone is doing great thanks for asking.  Bill still travels a lot overseas for work and is in India right now.  The kids are getting big. It is so funny to look back on how small they were during the race.  Billy has changed the most and is as tall as Bill now and Carissa is only about a 1/2 inch shorter than me. I will try and post a recent picture of both of them.

Wasn't the production allowed to lend you some, at least to finish the leg?:

I think I got lost for awhile - sorry to take so long to log back in!

We heard we were about an hour behind the last team at that point.  The people of Russia were very helpful for the most part.  The hardest part was when we had to walk all the way back from the park because we hadn't taken a taxi.  We couldn't get enough money to take the taxi one way let alone back and forth so we walked for more than a couple hours.  The production teams are not allowed to help you in any way and it was up to us to figure out how to finish out the leg.   The poor camera and sound crew had to walk the whole way with us carrying all their equipment.  It was getting really cold out and we just kept apologizing the whole time for making them walk so much.

My first reaction was just "okay, how can we do this and get our way to the embassy to deal with the passport along the way".  I just wanted to get the leg done and I didn't really care about following the rules because I was worried about Dallas being out on the street and begging without a passport.  In reality production was watching out all along the way to keep us safe so we just decided to do whatever we had to.

It really was wonderful to have had the opportunity to see how wonderful the people on the street were.

Glad you think I'm hilarious - Dallas considers me embarassing!  We actually didn't give them much to work with during the race - we got really focused while we were racing.  But boy were the pit stops and rest periods lots of fun!!!  Someday I'll tell you about the Moscow airport.  I do have to say I think we had more fun in our down times than it appears the teams this season may have had.  We thoroughly enjoyed spending time together with the other teams.  For me it was as much a part of the race experience as the actual race.  They should do a second reality show - "backstage on a reality show".

I was recently informed that Dan had been posting here. As someone who has been blogging about sports on a daily basis on the internet for the past few years, I figured I would give this a shot as well.

Yes, I am Andrew from "Andrew and Dan" on TAR 13. Dan's username is Dandrew and he has already posted a few times. About a year ago, the TAR 13 cast returned to our homes across the country after our journey and during the summer months, I was informed about RFF. My mom who heard about RFF from Dan's mom eventually showed me the chat, spoilers and gossip regarding our upcoming season. I was amazed at first when I visited this website. I had no idea how many people try to speculate The Amazing Race. When we arrived at the hotel in Portland after our 3rd place finish, I immediately called my parents after not being able to speak to them for nearly a month. My plan was to keep everything a secret from them and that included the locations of each leg. I wanted to give them dose by dose each week of my adventures when the show premiered. Unfortunately, my parents knew where we were traveling the whole time. When I first spoke to them in Portland and without explaining RFF to me, they told me how they tracked me down in Brazil, New Zealand, Cambodia, India, etc. I was so disappointed at first because I wanted everything to be ultimately a surprise! On the bright side, it apparently kept my mom less worrisome because she was able to see where Dan and I were.

I was told of RFF back in May 2008 and to be honest, it left a poor taste in my mouth. As I browsed through some of the threads, I came across a speculation thread that was mainly focused on the TAR 13 racers. As I kept scrolling through the thread, I noticed an abundant amount of posts about me. Like I said, it left this bitter, stale taste in my mouth and an uncomfortable feeling all together to see that I was being stalked. I never visited this website after that day.

After hearing about Dan's weekend in NYC for TAR 14, I decided to relive some old memories and take a gander at RFF to see if anyone was talking about this past weekend. It turns out there is an entire section of RFF dedicated to TAR alumni so I thought I would give it a shot. I'm a really chill guy and I don't mind some blogging in my spare time so if you have any questions for me, I'm all ears.

Love Dandrew or hate Dandrew, you know we could put a smile up on your face.

Andrew

Hi Andrew - welcome to RFF!

Its unfortunate that your first exposure to RFF left you feeling bitter about us. Hopefully you'll give us another chance - I know lots of the detectives here would love the opportunity to ask you questions! Most of us are really fun - please don't be discouraged by a few people who think that just because you are a public figure it gives them license to be rude and invade your privacy.

When you put yourself in the public spotlight I think you should expect some scrutiny, criticism and misguided ridicule. In your case I believe your detractors are  jealous of your achievement and luck at being on The Amazing Race. You and Dan provided entertainment for millions of people and your antics still provide water cooler discussion to this day!

Just so you know - I think there are two distinct groups  of people here at RFF. Some - and I include myself in this group - enjoy using our internet detective skills to track the race and racers as they travel around the world. We get to vicariously live the adventure that you are privileged to be part of. This enhances our enjoyment of The Amazing Race and hopefully our enthusiasm is contagious and helps to increase the ratings of the show. I like to think we are something along the lines of being investigative reporters mixed with a smidgen of paparazzi.

The other group of members at RFF are people that like to use the forums as a way of being heard, broadcasting their opinions to an audience that they'll never have a relationship with. They bandy about terms like love, hate, retard, freak without understanding the power of their language and the effect they may have on the reader. Unfortunately the  internet and the lack of consideration of consequences inherent in the me generation has given rise to this type of cowardly pseudo  journalism. Please understand that in an open forum such as this there is little that can be done by the moderators to censure this type of behavior and I hope you can tune out the misguided posts.

Where is your sports blog - I'd love to read it!

I'm trying to retain that day in my memory, especially since I was still drunk from the night before. Did we talk at that sandwich shop that we all went to? And what is your name? That might help me out a bit.

[/quote]

walkingpneumonia,

My first encounter with RFF left me uncomfortable but only because it was the first I ever experienced people who were following me or stalking me. I could care less about remarks and opinions made towards me and my appearance and such. It was simply that first feeling I got where I thought to myself, "Wow people really do this kind of stuff? Why would anyone ever want to follow me like this?"

After a while it sunk in and once the season was released back in August, I became fully adjusted to the mentality that people were going to be talking about me often for the next few months.

You can post in ANY thread you choose and we hope you choose a lot of them. The other thread is just for racers.

I have a question for Dandrew.

In the Russian marching task, were the soldiers actually laughing at you, as the edit would have us believe, or was that some stock footage in action?

No matter what anybody says, you guys were great on the show, and will probably be remembered for all time by Amazing Race fans.

The army task was very frusturating all around. At first I struggled to wrap cloth around my feet which was required before we put the boots on. The cloth acted as a sock for the boots. Apparently Ken and Nick struggled with the cloth as well and I think the problem was that the cloth was simply too small for my feet (I am a size 12, larger than average). After switching tasks and realizing that the outfit was required for both detour tasks, I finally successfully wrapped the cloth around my foot however, the second time I grabbed a different piece of cloth and it happened to fit. Another frusturating thing I should note, my outfit was WAYYYYY too small for my body. I couldnt even zip up the pants and buttom them. Luckily, the jacket portion covered the waist as well as the large belt we were wearing. I could not understand how it was so undersized because production took every measurment of me that was possible. And if anything, I had lost weight since the measurements were taken. Dan's marching might have been the talk of the town that day but I wasn't off to a great start either.

The soldiers were most certainly laughing at Dan, there was no edit there. I could hear them laughing and see them laughing. The one trombone player that couldn't even stand at attention definitely helped make it hysterical.

Here's a question that I'm asking on behalf of the next crop of TAR racers.

Is there one thing that you wish you had carried with you on the race?

Has to be something that would pass WRP's inspection.
Granola bars?
Extra batteries for your flashlight?
An "I Love RFF" t-shirt?

Hey is Luke Adams here?? Can I ask you a few questions about the race?

1) What was in like when Phil told you you won Leg 1?
2) Were you tempted to give up in Russia with the Chekov roadblock?
3) Were you scared when your mom collapsed in Phuket?
4) What happened when Kisha/Jen pushed you in Guilin? Did you apologize afterward...?

Thanks

PS: I'm your biggest biggest fan... congratulations  :jumpy:

The dancing took about 10 minutes. I really enjoyed it, I knew it would be great TV. After the race I'd say most of the racers were friendly with me. Last summer after the race took place, I visited Terence, Sarah and Nick while I was in NYC. Dan and I very always pretty close with Nick, Starr, Ken, and Tina. I have also met up with Mark on a few occasions since we aren't too far apart geographically.

We worked on the wire detour in Delhi for about 90 minutes. We finished just ahead of K and C and we beat them to the mat by about 20 minutes. Tina saved our asses by telling us what to do because honestly, we just didn't see the small tags. It sure is frusturating to look back on it and realize that we couldn't see them after so many times pacing up and down that street.

Sort of. There was supposed to be a U-Turn in Ep 9 after the detour. It was there when we were there, but they removed it from the episode because nobody was U-Turned, not even us! The other teams could have undoubtedly and easily put us out of misery and U-Turned us. The remaining teams decided to pass on U-Turning us because, well, they liked us. We were never a threat to the other teams and we were more than friendly with them on and off the show. Sometimes being good guys became strategic as other teams just simply liked having us around.

To the racers:

Thank you so much for being willing to share your experiences with fans of the show.

Do the clues tell you that you can leave your stuff sometimes and production will pick it up for you? This has been a point that has confused me through many seasons.  For example, DanDrew left their shoes and had to buy new ones, but then, like in Amsterdam this season, the racers left their stuff at the bike/golf thing and checked in without their bags.

I'm not a racer... but I know in AR12, the Croatia leg their bags were confiscated by production and in most cases, running to the pit stop, they could leave their bags near the pit stop, and then make a run for it. I don't know about the Holland leg though...

A question for TAR 15 racers: Was Leg 7 ever supposed to be a non-elimination leg?

Or whether the first leg was ever meant to be a NEL to save the only all-female team in the race, Maria and Tiffany.

I think they were, because on all of the NEL legs there was a luck task directly before getting to the Pit Stop.

Leg 1: Wasabi Roulette
Leg 8: Giant Haybales of Doom
Leg 10: Find the tiny violin.

I'm sure that one was meant to be a non-elimination (because it was ridiculously short), but Leg 7 was kind of sketchy, so that's why I ask.

But if I ever find out that they have placed arbitrary non-elims to save certain teams, I will be furious! A big no-no. :cmas12

What i didn't understand was, if there was meant to be a first leg NEL, why did they even surprisingly eliminate a team at the starting line. It was evil and i didn't like it, although it added loads of drama to the show!!! :cmas15

Count me in on really disliking that Leg 1 twist.  It wasn't a big deal since I really didn't adore Eric & Lisa.  However, as far as the NEL at the end of that first leg, no thanks!  That's probably another reason why I got over the early elimination: at least someone left at that first leg.  Of course, it was a "special" 2-hour episode, with Garrett & Jessica leaving.  However, as it wasn't like seasons 6-9, it was a 2-in-1 evening.  Back to that first leg: you have to have someone leaving.  You really want to make the contestants race like they want to be there, race like they want to win $1 Million.  Having someone go at the end helps scare the teams into racing the best that they can.  Of course you don't want to overdue it (which is why I dislike the RBs showing up in the first leg as of late), but there's the cost factor as well.  Ditto for Leg 2.  Later on is when the NEL become relevant (as no one is as fit as they were earlier).

Anyway, I'll have to save the rest for a more appropriate thread.  As for the following:

I forgot to ask this.  Rather, I didn't get a chance to; while in New York they were doing their own thing.  Most of them (including Tiffany) showed up for TARcon, but I was doing my own thing.  Given how easy Gary & Matt's speed bump was, I think that may have been a NEL, with two straight boots to follow.  However, given how much was left in the race, added to having Phil come out during the detour, I think it was.  Not that anyone can easily recover from a 24-hour penalty, but there was a team early in the series that fell a day behind everyone else, so anything is possible.

The Speed Bump on Leg 9 did seem like a last-minute thing. It was really simple. But then again, all Speed Bumps lately have been.

Phil already answered this...they wanted to shake things up.

I HATED it.

Me too. No team should be eliminated that early. But even without the surprise elim, there still should have been a non-elim on Leg 1!
Maybe that why Eric & Lisa din join them to sequesterville.. Poor Eric & Lisa.. I dun have chance to see u all at finish line.. :(

In response to the whether legs can be changed to NELs or not, the one word, two sentence answer is this:
No. Like other game shows produced in the US, TAR has to have to have game rules that cannot be changed during filming in compliance with regulations of the US Federal Communications Commission. These rules date back to the 1950s, when one such show was found to have been fixed.
(This was the basis for the movie Quiz Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiz_Show_%281994_film%29) (1994).

Although I do understand that there are different rules for "reality" shows than "game" shows, I remember reading discussions about this somewhere after airplanegate.  I think this may be a grey area that we may never know the exact answer to, thank goodness.

I do think the NEL is fixed but changed due to some situation and not change to save the team.. I dun think the producer is so Biased towards the team and make it NEL... People will complain..

Whatever is it.. We are just the audience and so we respect what the producer doing.. There is nothing we can do about it.. Ok is a bit Off.. Let get back to the normal schedule, and give this thread for the racer to answer the question.. :)

Not all reality shows are subject to the FCC game show rules, just those that offer winners (of a leg, or a race) a prize with monetary value.

The way I understand the rules' application, the designation of a leg as "non-elimination" is done before filming even begins, and cannot be changed. The location of a whole leg or of the tasks can be changed to meet unexpected circumstances; i.e., several hurricanes affected filming of TAR Family Edition (2005, which had 28 named storms in the Atlantic basin which includes the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico); a task in Rio in TAR 2 had to be moved when the original location became generally known and a new location had to be set up in short notice (it was the task that directed teams to a nightclub to retrieve a clue from one of the dancers), as well as the sandstorm that disrupted the Sahara pitstop during the Tunisia leg of TAR 1.) But none of those involved a change in which legs were NEL.

After the Harris Commission took up the quiz show scandals, the laws that were passed addressed a "bona fide contest of intellectual knowledge or intellectual skill" (see here (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/47/usc_sec_47_00000509----000-.html)); reality tv as we know it wasn't even on the horizon. The law hasn't changed much over the years. This document (http://www.governmentattic.org/docs/FCC_Complaints_GameShowCheating_DrugUse_2003-07.pdf), an FOIA request about game show cheating, includes an interesting reply:
Quote
Section 73.1216 of the Commission's rules governs the broadcast of licensee-conducted contests, Le.,  a contest conducted by an
FCC-licensed station in  which a prize is offered 'to members of the public.'  Since the show 'Big Brother' is  conducted by a network
programmer (vs. an  FCC-licensed station) and does not offer a prize to members of the public, it is not regulated  by the FCC.
A "game show" in which 'selected contestants' (vs. 'members of the public') participate is governed by Section 509 of Title 47 of the
United States Code (USC), and  regulated  by the Department of Justice.  However 'Big Brother' does not appear to  meet the
definition of a "game show."  Rather,  it is  a 'for entertainment only' program, somewhat similar to professional wrestling in that it is a
pseudo-contest in which the outcome is fully, or in some measure, predetermined.
And in fact, when it was discovered that the show Manhunt was rigged (RNO has some articles (http://www.realitynewsonline.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl?mode=1&article=article1339.art&page=1) about it), the producers and Paramount suffered only embarrassment.
To keep it on-topic, ask a racer at the next tarcon if they ever saw any Fed overseers.

a & a from TAR 13 here

TAR is pretty much "what you see in what you get". Yes, production mistakes are made but by and large it is an incredibly straight show. No one is going to say "Run by here again, I didn't get that shot" or something else just as silly. It is just to complex logistically to change a leg in favor of a team. I think the industry knows this and that is why TAR has every Emmy for best reality competition. It is a real competition. We didn't see, and talking with other racers they didn't witness, anything that would have changed the leg results. That is our story and we are sticking to it.  ;)

so now go back to what RFF is so good at: Who is Where, and When did they get there.

Question For any of the racers out there...

What did you have in your bags?

Do you get a suggested list from producers? ie Head Torch

Did you find you took stuff you did not use?

Would it make it easier to pack very light?

How did you manage to fit those bags in the overhead
lockers? I struggle with cabin luggage :)

What happens with snow/winter gear surely you don't
have to lug that from the start

In my pack I tried to carry as little as possible. I knew I could bring 4 different types of bottoms for both hot and cold weather and a some tank tops. I mostly wanted to makes sure we had stuff in layers and snacks that we could eat if we only had a chance to eat on a cab ride. There are things like a head lamp, compass, goggles, watches even all the way down to the type of back pack that we thoroughly researched to carefully put everything together.

We do not get a specific list from the producers. We get a vague list from them and the rest is up to you. I am not joking when I say this but the race starts as soon as you pick your partner.

I have learned this about being on the race. When you travel even in general there are a lot of things you pack that you don't even touch. So, I definitely learned that most of the time while traveling you wear the same thing A LOT! I don't know if that answers your question but I hope it helps

Welcome Kaylani!!

Just a quick question, what was the emotion when u have lost the passport and finally get it from the kind gentleman?

And what you personally think of the Hazard?

If you have not eliminated in the gorgeous world site in Indonesia, which leg do you think ur team will survived up to?

Last question are you still friends with the rest of the cast of season 19?

Thanks and good day!! :)

I have a question about what you are allowed to pack.

I know in some early seasons, CBS posted teams music playlists, meaning they were allowed iPods or mp3 players. Are these still allowed with the technology these things have today?

Also, what about logos and brands of shirts and hats? Do they prohibit certain brands or logos?

I've noticed this as well. I think they do prevent clothes with branded/copyrighted logos because they don't want to give free advertisement to random companies.

You think they'd let a racer wear a shirt that said "A prophet once told me to goto Georgia for the peaches"?  I'd get one made if I ever got on there ;)

Not a racer, but I wanna comment on this.
This season, the Chippendales wear shirts that say that they're affiliated with the company (not sure if those are shirts you can get from their store, if they have one).
Trey/Lexi are wearing Longhorns apparel, and production doesn't blur out the almighty longhorn emblem. :jam:
The Beekman boys sport shirts that say the name of their farm/company.

So I would say if the racers are directly affiliated with the logo/brand, then TPTB doesn't blur those things out?

Same could be said with the globetrotters in Season 15/18.

Logos have to be approved, and no large corporate logos are permitted. Affilitiated schools etc seem okay, dont know if TPTB get approval for those or not.

I see Chips with the red ERKE brand singlets and blue nike brand shirts? I was thinking wow... that was obvious. It's like, they got a secret agreement with these companies to don on their tees and race!! Obviously not, but.. I thought they wouldn't be allowed?

Just like how every racer in season 14 had the same brand of coat when they were in Russia. It was either Columbia or North Face...I don't remember which.

I am going to speculate that World Race Productions provides all needed cold weather gear for all teams left in the race just for the duration of the cold weather part of their race. That type of clothing is bulky and would slow down every team if they had to carry it themselves.
