BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A federal judge has temporarily barred a producer from selling songs recorded by “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks when he was still just a gray-haired bar crooner from Alabama.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins issued the ruling Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by Hicks against William Smith of Nashville, Tenn., after two songs written and sung by Hicks showed up for sale on the iTunes Web site.
Smith, in an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, said the songs were no longer for sale. The judge scheduled a hearing for Aug. 30 on whether to make her order permanent.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Reigning “American Idol” Taylor Hicks has settled a lawsuit he brought against a Nashville producer over the rights to three songs he wrote and recorded before becoming a TV phenom.
Hicks gained possession of the master recordings of the songs under the deal, revealed Tuesday in documents filed in federal court in Hicks’ hometown of Birmingham. In exchange, Hicks agreed not to pursue further court action against producer William Smith, who recorded Hicks several years ago and recently placed some of the songs on the iTunes Web site for sale.
No money will change hands under the agreement, which an attorney for Hicks, Joe Leak, described as “amicable.”

Idol's Elliott Yamin Has Surgery
Monday Oct 02, 2006 8:00am EST
By Arnesa Howell
This season's American Idol third runner-up Elliott Yamin is recovering from an hour's worth of surgery last week after breaking his pinky finger on his left hand in a freak accident, PEOPLE has learned.
Yamin, 28, was picking up rocks and throwing them at a sign after visiting a nightspot in his hometown of Richmond, Va. when "his finger got caught on a rod holding down a rock," says someone close to the situation.
"My finger snapped back and broke. I had to get a plate and two screws and I'm wearing a cast," Yamin tells PEOPLE. "I'm doing okay. It's not hampering me."
The pinky will be on the mend for the next five to six weeks. Given the fact that he's right-handed, this should not get in the way of giving autographs.
"Everything is scheduled as planned. I'm good," says Yamin, who on Monday is due in Birmingham, Ala., to perform with the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra.

Well thank goodness it wasn't worse and he can continue his performance agenda! :jumpy:
