Their irregular hole spacings suggest vegetable matter to me. The device in the background suggests a "hand press" of some kind. Think maybe they have to squeeze the "things" to extract juice, or something. Maybe Neobie can enlighten us on Asian food.

The only thing that I can think of that's a vegetable, this thick and has so many holes is the banana stalk...
