PREVIOUSLY .. ON THE AMAZING RACE:

Scene: Lake Powell.

Phil voice: Four families set out from Arizona, raced to Utah. Teams took a ride to a tower of rock, then rapelled down a canyon. Teams encountered a Grizzly. The Linzes targeted the Weavers ("gonna drop a house on her head") and Yielded them. After a wild splashdown, they arrived at the mat in 1st. The Weavers came in last, but were not eliminated.

Four families remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Credits roll.

Phil: Salt Lake City, founded in 1847. An elevation of 4,000 feet. The ninth pitstop.

The Weavers arrived last, but it was the third of "several" pre-determined non-eliminations. Stripped of cash, will start with no money.

Linz, 12:46 am, CLUE: Drive to Park City High School for the next clue.
Megan: No running! I'm feeling a little sick.
Eww. She's gonna throw up!

Bransen, 1:23 am.
$87 for this leg of the race.
Conf: It's to our advantage that the other teams have conflicts. We stay on task.

Godlewski, 1:30 am.
Christine: I thought we would get along better because of the race. But I don't think it's polite for my sisters to diss on me and give me a hard time. It upsets me.

High School ... Linz take the #1.
CLUE: Work as a team, help a crew put up a hot air balloon.
Phil: Upon landing after a flight, teams receive a clue.
One team per shuttle, starting 10 minute intervals at 6:00 am.

Into the luxurious camper they go for nighty-night.

SEMI-EQUALIZER .. considering the distance between first and third was 44 minutes, and teams will balloon 10 minutes apart.

Weaver, 5:02 am.
CLUE: One team has zero.
Sis: Wonder who that is!?
Conf, Mom: We've never really been treated like this.
Conf, Sis: We knew it would be down and dirty.

Alarm goes off, 5:30. Linzes make ready.
Megan got some Pepto.
She's in the Pink now.
Dawn.

At the high school ...
Weavers arrive.
YOUR YIELD DIDN'T WORK FOR US, SUCKER!
CLUE: Every 10 minutes.
Mom: We might be back in it!
Older Sis and Mom, yelling at Linzes: You sorry you wasted your YIELD?
Godlewski: She's a psycho.
Bransen and Weaver share pleasantries.

Megan Linz: She doesn't act like a Mom.
Hot air balloons taking off.
Linzes first.
Bransens next.
Big smileys on the balloons.
Godlewskis having problems moving the huge basket.
Last balloon, Weavers.
Conf: That's (Godlewski) the team we've gotta beat. They're full of ___ and implants!

Rolly is being pulled along the ground by a balloon, to the delight of the Godlewskis.
Finally the Weavers are aloft.
All four teams headed across the prairie.
Linzes snark about the Bransen's DAAAAD!

Two balloons approach, and their tops nearly collide.
They brush.
Linzes and Bransens in a balloon race!
Michele Godlewski "not really wild about heights, but the Amazing Race has cured me!"

Setting down first, the Linzes.
Pilot: I'mma put it down here, you guys.
CLUE: Drive yourselves to Heber Valley Railway.
Phil: Search the grounds for the next clue.

Bransens land 2nd, get CLUE.
Godlewskis leave in 3rd.
Weavers' pilot sets down on a rock pile.
... and the Gods of foreshadowing have spoken.

Every time the Weavers try to exit the balloon, it moves. Then they try again, and it tries to take off.
EEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!

Ed. note: Hey, look. It's about all the thrills we're gonna get this season.

Finally the Weavers exit, one at a time, get CLUE and drive off.
Conf: The crash landing was wonderful!

Linzes find the Railroad.
DETOUR.
Spike it, or Steam it?
Phil: Spike, use old time materials to complete a 20 foot section of railway track. Teams with an eye for detail could finish quickly.
Steam, fill this tender of the locomotive with 400 pounds of coal. Could take a long time.
In both tasks, a railway engineer must approve work before next CLUE.
Linzes, spiking.
Bransens, decide to spike.
Linzes arguing about how to properly align track.
Bransens realize "we're all gonna have to lift together."
Duh!

Godlewskis, choose spike.
Wally: Is it lined up to go in?
Wally hammers away.
They tighten bolts.
Megan: Whale on it! Nice! Nice!

Godlewskis rank on Christine, again.
(And the Paolos are still arguing ...)

Weavers, steaming it.

One of the Godlewski sisters clonged one of the others.
Not hard enough to do anything constructive, though ...

Wally conf: This is my chance to shine, as opposed to dragging.

Scooping coal, Weavers.
Rolly atop the train, loading into the tender.
The Weavers run, run, load, load ...
... as the Godlewskis argue about how to lay rails.

Linzes get DISAPPROVED 'cause they have poor spiking ...
They have to fix a few.
Weavers madly loading coal.
Linzes respiking ... Get CLUE.
Linz, CLUE: Drive in the direction of the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Phil: They'll find the 87-foot Tree of Utah. Teams need to scan the surrounding area for the next clue (scene: clue box).

In the SUV, Linzes shown having fun at Meg's expense.

Bransen, finish railing in 2nd.
Daughter: We would have been SCKA-REWWED without Dad!

Weavers rushing ...
Voice: We can beat the Desperate Housewives!
STEAM!
The Weavers made steam, and may leave in 3rd.
Man: Excellent!
Mom: Thanks! It's fun!
Godlewskis still arguing over rail placement.

Railboss makes Godlewskis re-tighten bolts.
They do, and get CLUE, leave in 4th.
No peace in the Godlewskis' SUV ...
Somebody's crying!
Somebody's snarking!
Finally: LEAVE ME ALONE!

Conf, Christine: I don't get the kudos I deserve. I kicked butt. It's my sisters' loss if they don't wee it.

Linz, CLUE: Make your way to Garden City and make your way to (badly mispronounced) Rendesvous Beach.

Bransen, conf: What is that? The tree of hemorhhoids?

Weavers arrive at the Salt Flats.
Voice: It's the Weavers!
Voice: DARN IT!

Weavers, CLUE, 3rd.
Godlewskis, 4th.

Phil: They'll travel nearly 400 miles, to camp here at the Park for the night. Departures 15 minutes apart in the morning, in order of arrival, starting 8:00 am.

Bransens, 1st to the Park.
They'll depart 8 am.

Weavers, 2nd.
Peg: My brain is fried, like I was in Math class all day.
Rolly: You failed math!

Weavers get out and beg for money.

Linzes, 4th.
Phil: Due to a production error, their battery was drained, and they slipped to 4th  (:;)

First to depart ...

8:30, Bransen, CLUE, 1st: Drive to Dunham Ranch, Big Piney, WY.
Oops! Somebody cut the cheese in the Bransen SUV!

Weavers, leave 8:45.

Godlewskis, 9:00.
Stomachache .. no sympathy ...

Linz, 9:15.
Conf: Doesn't matter who we get in front of, as long as we get in front of somebody!

Bransens see Dunham, 1st to arrive.

Horses!

CLUE: ROADBLOCK.
Who's ready to cowboy up?
Phil: Two members must mount horses, take 6 cattle from a herding pen, herd them into a corral 1/4 mile away for the next clue.

Lauren, Beth will ride for the Bransens.
And the band plays a very poor imitation of an Aaron Copland melody.
Quickly they get 6 cows.
Quickly they herd several, almost no problem.

Arriving to Dunham in Second, Weavers.

Bransens finish, get CLUE: I'm Old and Faithful.
Phil: This geyser goes off 90 minute intervals. After watching an eruption, a fireman will give them the next clue.

Rebecca and Rachel Weaver will ride.
Mom: They're in their element. We've got 3 horses at home.

Godlewskis don't see any trailers in the rear view.
Voice: Sorry, Linzes.
While gloating, they pass their turn.
They have to u-turn in a very narrow space.
Oops ...
Careful ...

Linzes appear to drive up to the scene as the Godlewskis do their 3-point-u-turning VERY BADLY ...
Driver: Guys! This is impossible!

I should learn to read between the lines. Just a couple of days ago Puddin found a newspaper article in which Phil talked about his wish to drive on the Bonneville flats.

Chris: Sharon! We're almost there!
Car comes ...
Man will "help us back it up."
He drives their vehicle for them, turning it about in a flash.

Bransen ride the rough road out of the ranch.
Bransen and Godlewski pass on the road.

Weavers have some initial trouble herding, but quickly right the group and get CLUE.

Godlewskis see "Florida" in 2nd.
They drive the horses into the boma.

Weavers snark at Linzes on the main road.
Linz: Okay. I'm sorry.
Linzes and Weavers quietly snark at each other after the encounter.
No love lost, but there was none to lose.

Godlewskis leave ranch in 3rd, as Linzes arrive.
Godlewskis ... hardly alliancemates anymore.
Voice: Just stay ahead of the Linzes!
Voice: Game on!

Linzes make short work of cattle herding, and head toward Yellowstone.

Arriving Yellowstone, 1st, Bransen.
The fireman stands next to them.
It was 50 minutes since the last eruption.
(Realizing it's another 30+ minutes ...)
Wally: Hopefully not too many people will show up.

Weavers arrive 2nd and find the fireman.
Dude: It's right there.
Bransens sit.
Wally: It's just a few minutes.
Weavers: Oh! You're kidding!
Mom: Oh, dear lord!

Driving up, Godlewskis ...
Man: Every 92 minutes.
Linzes are hot on their tails.

ERUPTION!
Bransens and Weavers are with the firefighter.
Godlewski: Is that bad timing, or what?

CLUE, Bransen/Weaver: Drive south on 287 and find the ranch at 15200.

Seeing Weavers tied for 1st, Godlewski: Sonofabitch!

Megan: The Bransens and Weavers (driving in the opposite direction)
Tommy: Not a good sign.

The Godlewskis have to wait until 6:02, so they'll be there another 90 minutes.

Linzes arrive, find the firefighter, realize they just missed it.

Tommy: As far as I'm concerned, somebody's getting eliminated.

ERUPTION, and both Godlewski and Linz depart.

Linzes: It'll be a footrace!!

Bransen, with Weavers in the rear-view.
Lauren: Stupid sk---, driving right on our ass! Dad! You just need to haul butt!
Rolly: I'll take out Wally. You haul! Okay?
Lauren: Keep your eye open for Phil!

Goth teams pull up, get out.
There's Phil, on a split rail!

RUN!
RUN!
RUN!

The Bransens outrun the Weavers by 2 seconds.

On the mat:
Phil: Weavers, come on in. Bransen family, Weaver family, you're the 1st and 2nd teams to arrive. However, you're not finished with this leg of the race. I have your next clue.

TO BE CONTINUED.

Good job, Puddin.  Thanks.  I am not crazy about these TBCs.

But it was good to see that next episode will involve American Indians.  It wouldn't have been right for the race to visit the American west without involving an Indian tribe.

Maybe the task is the same as the missing Teepee task in Canada from TAR 5.
