James started to work out, but then came out to scare Ivette, but said he could not do it because she was walking down the stairs carrying bowls.

They are talking about working out on a empty stomach and how you burn more calories.

James and Ivette are in the kitchen talking about music.  James likes to listen to Metallica to get motivated. He used to listen to it before football games and drag racing.
