Pedaler:
Another reason why the other racers would be jealous of Rob and Amber.  No other teams were mentioned by name.

Rob and Amber Moriano, past contestants on the television shows "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race," had praise for the Anderson area Saturday evening as they marked the culmination of an event that caused them to visit.

"They are some of the nicest people in the whole country," Mr. Moriano said when asked about his impressions of the Upstate. "They took care of us and gave new meaning to the word hospitality."

The couple is one of eight teams from the sixth and seventh seasons of Amazing Race who visited Anderson for the Raising Race, a two-day event that ended Saturday and will benefit the Calvary Home for Children.

Ms. Moriano said people around the Anderson community were very gracious to open their homes and prepare meals for the visiting Amazing Race graduates.

The couple did multiple interviews with media Friday and helped kick off the Raising Race. They visited several of the race stopping points around Anderson County Saturday, including the Pendleton District Agricultural Museum and Mcauley’s Unique Boutique in Anderson.

While the Morianos were at Mcauley’s, Raising Race participants arrived. Racers had to sell items as one of their challenges, and Ms. Moriano bought a skirt.

Six winners of an Anderson Independent-Mail contest each got to bring a guest to a lunch Saturday where they met Amazing Race contestants.

Catherine Gay, 10, went to the lunch as a guest of her father, Reggie. Both had watched the Morianos on "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race." Ms. Gay said she event stayed up as late as she was allowed to watch as much as she could of the Morianos wedding when it was televised.

When she met the couple Saturday she asked how the two reality shows differed. The Morianos said the shows were very different, so they couldn’t really be compared.

Another contest winner, Greeta Peden of Pendleton, got autographs from the Morianos for her sister, who could not attend the luncheon but is a big fan of the couple.

Betty Sizemore, who got autographs from the Morianos on Friday, said she also had watched the couple on television and had wanted to meet them.

One fan asked the couple Friday what the future held for them.

"Stay tuned," Ms. Moriano said.

Her husband said in the future he would like to see the Anderson race have some teams in which past Amazing Race contestants were paired up with people who had not been on the show.

"Next year I want to race," he said.

Both the Morianos said as they attended the Raising Race finale Saturday evening that they were pleased the event had gone very well. The couple was not surprised, they said, knowing the abilities of Kelly McCorkle, the former "Amazing Race" competitor who founded the Raising Race.

"I was highly impressed," Ms. Moriano said.
