Maanca:
Now THIS is how Amazing Race should be. Loved it!!

Bookworm:
Bangkok looked stunning as always, and I love the way teams' backstories were edited in throughout the episode.
My only disappointment was the linearity of the Leg design, especially with the Spa Day Detour having 5 stations; the design could've been fixed with 3 or 4 spots to really hone in on the dilemma. That being said, I LOVED the risk aspect of the Detour- a blanket 30 minutes (45 if you're Todd & Ashlie) versus learning a variable routine.

Further, any balancing issues with the Detour were mollified by the fact that we even got a premiere Detour, plus the decision by production to dedicate airtime instead to traveling by longboat and tuk tuk through Bangkok made complete sense. I'd much rather sacrifice some competitiveness to showcase the travel aspect of the show, which has been sorely missed the past few years.

I haven't been this excited for TAR in a long time, and this premiere easily outclassed Survivor's.

cbacbacba1:
Happy to have TAR back  :cheer:  However this leg turned out to be a disappointment to me  :groan:

1. TAR producers claimed they learnt answer-sharing kills suspense, yet right out of the gate the 1st task has answer sharing  :groan:
2. The locations in Bangkok were too similar to each other. Every single location visited other than the message shop was park or temple  :groan:  Can't we have something else for Bangkok?
3. The detour appeared to be a little bit loop-sided, which the spa side seems to be far easier than the other choice.

Yet, I am glad we have the extra 30 minutes of airtime such that we can hear teams more in depth. Even if for the 1st boot team, we heard them go into detail of their relationship, and how they deserved to be eliminated first  :funny:

I don't know I personally found this to be one of the most hilarious (and somewhat sad) race things I've ever witnessed and their editing was perfect on it. You had everyone overtly working together to talk it out and not even making an attempt to include Rob and Rob got it well before all of them.

RaceUntilWeDie:
On paper, this premiere LEG had a lot going for it: good physical/mental RB, self driving in LA, no more charter!, gross eating challenge, Detour on Leg 1 (last time there was a RB and Detour on Leg 1 was TAR 28 I believe?), TAXIS!, Tuk tuk, boats

Unfortunately, the EPISODE itself was okay as far as editing goes. They still have trouble explaining why certain teams fall behind, why certain teams jump ahead — too often they just cut to the next location. No suspense whatsoever. Way too many confessionals, it seriously takes you out of the episode
