Amazing Race Canada Season 8, Episode 10, "Is that wild peacock?"
Film dates: unknown

The last leg ended on a beach near Pokeshaw Rock. Team are leaving from Harbourview Blvd in Bathhurst in the following order:
1.Catherine & Craig 13:182.Franca & Nella    ??:??+?:??3.Beverly & Veronica??:??+?:??4.Jesse & Marika    ??:??+?:??5.Brendan & Connor  ??:??+?:??
The first clue tells teams to fly to Bowmanville, Ontario.
All teams are on the same flight from Bathurst to Toronto via Montreal.
Once they land in Toronto they find their sponsor cars as well as their next clue at the parking lot. This clue tells them to drive to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (103km).
It is dark when teams pick up their cars and the task at the Motorsport park starts the next day so there seems to have been an hours of operation point there. This was not shown in the episode

We rejoin the racers next morning at the Motorsport park when they get their next clue. This is a road block: Who likes to be precise?

In this road block racers will get behind the wheel of a Corvette Stingray. They must drive a 3km track, including a slalom part and must finish by stopping inside a box. They must complete the course in under 2:30. The clue also states that Marika, Brendan, Franca, Craig and Veronica must do this task.

Teams complete this road block in the following order (* denotes team member doing the road block):
1.Brendan* & Connor  (6-6)In 2:04 on his first attempt2.Jesse & Marika*    (6-6)In 2:26 on her first attempt3.Catherine & Craig* (4-4)In 2:18 on his first attempt4.Beverly & Veronica*(6-6)In 2:17 on her first attempt5.Franca* & Nella    (6-6)In 2:29 on her second attempt
Their next clue includes a phone and tells teams to fly by seaplane to Tobermory, ON.
They must use an app on the phone to navigate themselves to Oshawa executive airport (34km) where they can sign up for one of three flights to Tobermory. The flights will land 10 minutes apart.

On their drive to the airport Brendan & Connor encounter a Peacock.
"Is that a wild Peacock?", Brendan gets the title

Teams end up on the flights like this:
Flight #1:
  Brendan & Connor
Flight #2:
  Jesse & Marika
  Catherine & Craig
Flight #3:
  Beverly & Veronica
  Franca & Nella

Once they land teams must search the town for Divers Den where they will find their next clue.

Route info: The Numbers don't lie.

Team must make their way to the Tugs harbor (700m). Here one racer must dive into the cold water and use four buoys to guide them to four famous shipwrecks. Below each buoy they can find five different color coded numbers. Each team has their own color and they need to relay their numbers back to their team mates on shore. The numbers, in some order, can be used to open the combination lock keeping a treasure chest shut. Each team has their own chest and combination so they can not work together.

In most teams both contestants change into wet suits but only one team member may be in the water at any given time. They are also given  snorkel and fins to make the task a bit easier.

"This water is so cold", Craig
"I'm just dressed like this for moral support", Veronica lets us know that Beverly is a certified diver
"Water and Franella don't mix", Franca

This task gets harder when there are multiple teams in the water and you need to figure out who is shouting what. Franca & Nella are the ones struggling the most. Franca hears five numbers so eventually Nella has to go back into the water.

Teams complete this task in the following order:
 1. Brendan & Connor
 2. Jesse & Marika
 3. Catherine & Craig
 4. Beverly & Veronica
 5. Franca & Nella

Inside the treasure chest they find a set of keys to a sponsor car. They will find their next clue inside the car.

This clue is a Face Off. Teams must first drive themselves to Lloyd's Smoke Shop and Pool Hall in Wiarton (77km). Here they must play a game of Amazing Race Canada snooker against each other. They get the point value of each ball they sink. They can keep hitting the cue ball as long as they down the numbered balls. The team with the most points at the end wins. If you down the cue ball the other team may place it wherever they want on the table and take a shot.

"I go to the pool hall with my boyfriend, so pretty much, the game is ours", Beverly

Teams leave the face off in the following order:
1(+0) Brendan & Connor, win against Jesse & Marika
2(+1) Catherine & Craig, win against Jesse & Marika
3(+1) Beverly & Veronica, win against Jesse & Marika
4(+1) Franca & Nella, win against Jesse & Marika
5(-3) Jesse & Marika, have to wait out a penalty

Route marker: Don't lose your train of thought

Teams must now drive themselves to CFB Meaford (61km). Here teams must put on protective equipment and a tactical west before running through a physically demanding obstacle course. While they are running the course officer will yell the seven military values at the teams. The different trainers seem to say them slightly differently but there are sentences like "A soldier needs integrity" and "A soldier has integrity". In the end the only important part are the keywords integrity, loyalty, courage, excellence, responsibility, honesty and fairness.

Teams are only told that they need to answer a question at the end. He asks them to recite the seven values in the correct order.

Teams complete this task in the following order:
1(+0) Brendan & Connor, on their 2nd try
2(+0) Catherine & Craig, on their 1st try
3(+1) Franca & Nella, on their 1st try
4(+1) Jesse & Marika, on their 1st try
5(-2) Beverly & Veronica, on their 3rd try, apparently around 20 minutes behind

Teams must now make their way to the Inn at Cobble Beach and find the lighthouse on the 17th hole (44km). Here they will find Jon and the next pit stop.

Teams know that this is the penultimate leg and they all fight as hard as they can to be among the first three teams which usually go to the final. They do not yet know that this year there will be four teams in the final.

We get a rare glimpse of the additional information the racers got with this clue:

    Additional information
* The Inn at Cobble Beach is located at 221 Mcleese Dr in Kemble.
* Park in the marked parking area.
* Leave your keys in the vehicle.

Teams reach Jon in the following order:
1(+0) Brendan & Connor, win a trip to Auckland, NZ and a $3,500 gift card at Marshalls
 2(+0) Catherine & Craig
 3(+1) Jesse & Marika, just after #2
4(-1) Franca & Nella, are extremely happy when they get a spot in the finale
5(+0) Beverly & Veronica, are eliminated

"Our friendship has just surpassed anything we thought possible", Veronica

Amazing Race Canada Season 8, Episode 11, "Where is Gurmail?"
Film dates: 2022-05-21

The last leg ended at the Inn at Cobble Beach. Teams leave for the final leg in the following order:
1.Brendan & Connor  05:062.Catherine & Craig 06:02+0:563.Jesse & Marika    06:04+0:584.Franca & Nella    06:17+1:11
Route info: This is it, the final leg of The Race. Fly to Vancouver, BC.

On their way to the airport Brendan & Connor talk about the mustaches they have been growing since the start of the race.
And Jesse & Marika wear orange shirts to bring support to all families being impacted by residential schools.

All teams are on the same flight from Toronto to Vancouver. Once they land they must travel by taxi to Cardero Park.

Teams reach the clue box in Cardero park (16km) in the following order:
 1. Catherine & Craig
 2. Jesse & Marika
 3. Franca & Nella
 4. Brendan & Connor

Road block: Who should just drop it?

In this road block the participating racers must get into a wet suit and they are then taken, two teams at a time, on a helicopter ride to Calufield Cove in West Vancouver. Here they must drop 20ft into the ocean below, then swim more than 100ft to a buoy where they can pick up their next clue.
The show is silent on how they then get to the shore. They could either swim or get a ride on the wave runner we see in the background. Meanwhile their partner has traveled here by the same taxi and are waiting for their team mates.

But before they can do all that they must get themselves to the Vancouver Harbor Heliport. And that turns out to be not only tricky but also the only part of this task where teams can pass each other. The actual helicopter ride and drop are completely linear. Jesse & Marika decide to go by foot(2.1km) while the others jump back into their taxis (2.4km).

Catherine & Craig get dropped off at the wrong location. They can see the heliport but not how to get there, eventually they jump into another taxi which takes them there.

Teams reach the heliport (455 West Waterfront road) in the following order:
 1(+2) Franca & Nella
 2(+2) Brendan & Connor
 3(-2) Catherine & Craig
 4(-2) Jesse & Marika

"I need to check my shorts after this", Nella as excited for her first ever helicopter ride

Teams complete this road block in the following order (* denotes team member doing the road block):
1(+0)Franca & Nella*    (6-7)2(+0)Brendan & Connor*  (6-7)3(+0)Catherine* & Craig (5-4)4(+0)Jesse* & Marika    (7-6)
Road block: Who should just roll with it?
The clue also states that the racer who did not do the previous road block must do this one.

Teams must first travel by taxi to Wallace Shipyards (18km) here they must complete a roller skate course in 75 seconds or less. The course includes riding under two horizontal bars, riding backwards, a slalom section, stepping through hoops laid out on the ground and finally riding on one foot.

Teams complete this road block in the following order (* denotes team member doing the road block):
1(+1)Brendan* & Connor  (7-7)In 35s2(-1)Franca* & Nella    (7-7)In 60s3(+0)Catherine & Craig* (5-5)In 51s4(+0)Jesse & Marika*    (7-7)In 50s
"Where is Gurmel", Nella gets the title as they leave the roller skating and look for their taxi driver
Franca & Nella have a hard time finding him. Eventually the loan a cellphone and call him.

"There wasn't a single team there", Marika is frustrated when they leave the roller skating challenge very last

Route info: All the world's a stage.

Teams must now travel to the Old Auditorium of the University of British Columbia (6344 Memorial road, 22km). Here they must choose an instruction which will teach them the melody and Italian lyrics to a song from La Traviata (The first verse of the drinking song). They must then perform this.

Jon ends his presentation of this task with a small chuckle and a "Good luck".

"This isn't my cup of tea", Connor as he gets into costume

For those of you wanting to practice at home, here is the text sheet one of the racers get (Alfredos part):Libiamo, libiamo ne' lieti calici   | Lib-BYAH-moh, Lib-BYAH-moh, nay LYAY-tee KAH...
Che la bellezza infiora,            | Kay lah bel-Let-zah in FYOH-rah
E la , fuggevolfuggevol ora         | Ay LAH fooj-LAY-vohl fooj-JAY-vohl Oh-rah
S'inebri a voluttà                  | see-NAY-bree ah VOH-loot-tah.
Libiam ne' dolci fremiti            | Lib-BYAHM nay dohl-CHEE FREH-mee-tee
Che suscita l'amore,                | Kay SOO-shee-tah lah-MOH-ray
Poiché quell'occhio al core         | Poy-KAY kwehl-LOHK-kee-oh ahl KOH-ray
onnipotente va.                     | Ohn-nee-POH-tehn-TAY vah
Libiamo, amore, amor fra i calici   | Lih-BYAH-moh, ah-MOHR, ah-MOHR,fra...
più caldi baci avrà.                | Pyoo CAHL-dee BAH-chee ah-VRAH

Teams are not holding their text sheets while performing but given the way some of them stare at a fixed point I get a feeling there was a board with the text which they could see.

"We sing professionally, this might be our chance to move up", Catherine

Teams get their singing approved in the following order:
1(+2) Catherine & Craig, on their 2nd attempt
2(+0) Franca & Nella, on their 3rd attempt
3(-2) Brendan & Connor, on their 6th attempt
4(+0) Jesse & Marika, on their 4th attempt

Route info: It's a buyers market

Teams must make their way to the Richmond Night Market (16km). Here they must find the RNM CITY OF LIFE sign and select one of the tables. The patrons at that table will then give the team a list of items they need to get. The list consists of ten lines with product and the name of the stall they need to get it from. Once they have delivered all their items to the table they will get their next clue.

Some product and stall names are in Chinese which does not make the task any easier.

"It's going to be hard for me to not eat everything in sight right now", Craig

While Catherine & Craig wait for some ice cream they have ordered they spot Franca & Nella. The latter have a different strategy where they first go round to all the stalls and order the food before coming back and picking it up.

Teams complete this challenge in the following order:
 1(+1) Franca & Nella
 2(-1) Catherine & Craig
 3(+0) Brendan & Connor
 4(+0) Jesse & Marika

The next clue sends teams to the Vancouver public library.

Franca & Nella had their taxi park very close to the market and now they have to pay for that as there is a traffic jam which makes getting out a nightmarishly slow process. Meanwhile Catherine & Craig have a longer run to their taxi but once they get there it is plain sailing.

"Slow is steady, steady is fast", Franca & Nella repeat their motto

At the library (12km) teams encounter a memory challenge. They will get 27 riddles based on the nine legs they all raced in (the ones where Catherine & Craig were in isolation due to Covid are ignored). They are also given a board with nine leg locations on it. They must place all the riddles in the correct order under each location where they took place. There are three riddles for each location.

For example one riddle reads:You might have thought you were losing your mind,
But to pass, all you had to do was unwind.
This refers to the meditation task in London, ON.

This task is hard and after a while we have all four teams here doing it. They all trip up on the same riddle:You've takes your licks throughout the Race
It's a very good think you kept your eyes on the case
One might think this refers to the murder mystery but actually refers to the stamp task (both from the Ottawa - Gatineau leg).

Teams are really feeling the pressure here. They all assume that whoever gets this first is going to win. Once the first team gets it the other teams hear that and they realize that they just lost the race.

Teams complete this task in the following order:
 1(+1) Catherine & Craig
 2(+2) Jesse & Marika
 3(-2) Franca & Nella
 4(+0) Brendan & Connor

Route info: At last, the end of the race. Make your way to BC Place...

Teams must now make their way on foot to gate A at BC Place, a big indoor arena nearby (300m). Here they will find Jon and the finish line.

Teams reach the finish line in the following order:
1(+0) Catherine & Craig, win the sponsor cars, a trip around the world, $250,000 and the title
 2(+0) Jesse & Marika
 3(+0) Franca & Nella
 4(+0) Brendan & Connor

"5 provinces, 24 cities and over 20,000km from coast to coast", Jon sums up the race
"We wouldn't be here right now it if wasn't for each and every one of you", Craig

Jon also asks Craig & Catherine if they have a message for all Canadians. They do and talk about things like reconnecting with your loved ones and to live your life to the fullest.
