I believe they got help from a local that said that they could arrive earlier in Puerto Varas if they did a transfer in Temuco, Chile instead of that early-morning direct shot.

They weren't the only teams that took a transfer via Temuco. There were other teams - this lead to quite a bit of drama in that episode. The other teams' bus at Temuco was at a different terminal and they ended up missing their bus, and then tried to get on but missed the cowboys' bus.

Maybe not the greatest, but Joe (of Joe & Heidi S16) did very well with his injured knee - it looked painful. If not for the UTurn, who knows how long they would have lasted.
