Just because someone is a sports figure doesn't necessarily mean they are "sporting heroes." Some are, but that's a rare designation we give them. BUT many are ALSO well known for the volunteer work they do - they are heroes in their community.

They could just be Jet fans! They are probably from Winnipeg. If the guy said they are athletes, then maybe they are related to a sport, at an amateure level (like little league or something, and they could be heroes for their community)

Finding the girls from team #2, the Cheerleaders, should not be too difficult, once we have better pictures:

I doubt they would be on the 2018 team, because the season starts June 1, and I'm sure they have practice before that.

This is a cap from the eTalk vid, with the best sideview of team 1 guy. IMO, this confirms it.

Here are the remaining caps I could grab from the eTalk video. There are just so many butts and feet. BUT notice the front of Team8's green shirts. What does that logo say? "State" or "Hate" (could "hate" be an anti-hate group?)
