What a mess. I think under normal circumstances, production would have swapped these two legs out for another destination BUT they were obligated to proceed with their sponsor. As for the Mother & Son team: wouldn't casting have filed for visas for backup teams before the final cut? Did they want this team THAT bad or did they proceed to cast them knowing they'd be an early-out?
I wonder how this fiasco will affect next season's route.

It sounds like this is partially a case of bad timing.

Not to be political, but they had it planned in advance, and filming unfortunately happened to come at a time when Trump was agitating them and N Korea. So security was up.
