TAR 27 Ep 4 LIVE SHOW Updates & Commentary!
Belle Book:
I can see why a lot of people are annoyed by the constant focus on the Green Team and Team Texas. That's probably why the editing is viewed as being awful. But there was one very good thing about the rivalry: Team Texas burning their Express Pass on the Roadblock instead of at the Detour and then finding out the Hours of Operation! That was funny to me!
I think Team Texas suffered a case of not being able to see the forest for the trees. They were so focused on getting rid of the Green Team that they didn't stop to think about when the best time would be to use the Express Pass! They looked too far ahead and paid the price for it.
Dånooky:
I feel people are whining because the design wasn't "perfect". So I'll just give my two cents on every element of the leg:
1. RB. First and foremost, TAR has always been about showcasing how the world is wonderful. Scenery porn has been present since the first episode. Even if it's a competition, the show is also an opportunity for the racers to take in the view.
2. The HoO. For people who don't cross borders frequently, you should know that it can get pretty messy. If you have luck you can cross in the first 15 minutes, but sometimes you can get stuck for 2+ hours, so the whole scheduling could have been ruined and teams would have been impossibly spread out without the bunching at shoestrings. Plus, it was a curve ball thrown at the teams, who frankly probably deserved some rest after their extremely long trip from South America. Also, think about having to have kids at the orphanage wait up until late at night.
3. The Detour. While I agree the cultural relevance should receive more of a spotlight, I feel the choice offered was a difficult one. Think about it, teams who went for co-op tended to be teams who had no idea what croquet is.
4. The U-Turn placement. After giving teams a treat at the RB and a chance to relax, a way to keep them on their toes is not knowing if they're U-Turned right before the Pit Stop. At the same time, if teams don't know it's KOR, being with the kids at the orphanage would help us see teams' true colors (will the compassion inspired by the charity overcome the teams' competitiveness or vindictiveness). Or if they learn it's a KOR they could add some padding to the next leg.
To me , the theme for this leg was emotional manipulation, making choices and dealing with the unexpected. Specially at the end: team Texas had made a pact with all other teams over who would get the EP, but the deal didn't come through. No they're at the point of gaining 5 more enemies depending on their choice.

TAR20, even though the rivalry was there, at least the other teams were still there rather than the constant focus on them.

Well on TAR20, the other teams got involved too and took sides. Here, it seems no one else really cares lol
Tanner & Josh's plan was okay. But it was thwarted by the equalizer and Leg design which was mainly done for the TBC Leg. Otherwise, the least it could've done if it worked was get Justin & Diana toward the bottom of the pack. Or even eliminated since the giraffe side of the Detour was tedious and time consuming.
