It's a twist that they are calling a "world first exclusive" (dispute the fact that it's been used in other versions).
Basically, two teams will face off in a challenge. The first to succeed in the challenge will continue in the race and the looser has to wait for the next team. The team who looses the last round will face a penalty (other versions will use a 15 minute penalty)

Hamilton & Michaelia would have lost more time going back for the passport than editing suggests.
It looks like Halifax's airport is a quick trip down the street, it's actually 30 km out of the city. So they may have been nowhere close to Nic & Sabrina.

Yes, at least an hour round trip by taxi.
But, how do you leave a passport on the plane? Did they actually put it in the pocket in the back of the seat ahead of them? Who does that?

I don't think they left it on the plane but might be some where during security check?

Definitely sad to see them go so soon especially because they had potential to do so well! Even in this leg if it weren't for that they could have easily came in the top 3. But yeah they must have been at least an hour behind at the end.
