TAR 24 EP 5 "Can't Make Fish Bite" Colombo, Sri Lanka
kiki:
So fishing is definitely in Galle.
georgiapeach:
Not so sure kiki.
I had found this when I was looking earlier:
--- Quote ---Sri Lanka's Famous Stilt Fishermen of Koggala
Sri Lanka is unique for
its Stilt Fishermen of its west coast - fishermen who sit on small benches on
poles stuck into the water a few meters offshore and fish for small reef fish
called ‘Bollu’ and ‘Koramburuwo’
Before the tsunami of 2004, these
fishermen could be found off shore south of Galle, and most tour books and
photographers show that they are from Walligama - however, currently they can
only be seen north of Walligama along the beaches of Koggala - and the few who
still fish make more from tourists for photos than they do from fishing.
In case you want to know more, please check out the following article by
By Nizla Naizer in the Bottom Line, which is the only good writeup I have seen
at http://www.thebottomline.lk/2009/01/28/index 10.htm

So I was thinking Koggala.... Maybe they do just take the train to Galle and go from there?
georgiapeach:
Article by Nizla Naizer is here too as that link is dead.
But much of what I read suggests this is mostly done now for tourists.
