For me it is a 50/50 split chance. There is more than enough space for another country between Sri Lanka and Italy at the same time there are marvelous places inside Sri Lanka (my sister just came back from Colombo) like Sigiriya where the true and original The Lion King story took place.
If they did 2 legs in Sri Lanka, then I'm surprised they were not spotted again inside the island or at the Colombo airport. If they did another country I may suppose it is a less traveled place just like what happened with Botswana when they also disappeared for a few days.
Also, if there was another country, I'd say that it is not a hub, because of how easily they can be spotted. This leaves India, Ethiopia, UAE and others out for me.

There is something possibly race related going on at the Piazza de Spagna webcam in Rome.
I see someone go up the steps followed by a camera. Later I see someone at the bottom of the steps holding a white sign, but down low. I have seen what looked to be a camera and a sound guy at one time. I also keep seeing a guy in a camoflauge coat. http://www.skylinewebcams.com/de/webcam/italia/lazio/roma/piazza-di-spagna.html
