Where did the "snow in Dallas" come from. I live in Dallas and we had almost NO snow, maybe 1/10 of an inch. We did have about 2 inches of freezing rain and sleet. The ground was very cold and when the rain hits it.......it freezes instantly. People are ice skating and playing hockey in the streets. DFW airport now has 3 runways in operation out of the normal 7. We expect about 7 hours today above freezing, so a lot of this mess should disappear today. To show you how cold the ground was.....my driveway is on a hill and it has about an inch of ice on it. It was so cold the rain didn't have time to run down the hill. We did get a Lufthanza jet stuck on a taxiway.....the pilot cut a corner a little short in the whiteout conditions and got some wheels stuck off the concrete.

The plane being used for a flight from Houston might have been stranded in Dallas because of the icing conditions. The flight number for that plane out of Dallas can be different from the flight number out of Houston. So with all the problematic weather issues across the country, there would have been a domino effect with flights because the plans weren't able to be in the right place at the right time, and it could take days for the airlines to get all their planes positioned in the right places for resuming a fully normal flight schedule.

Certainly in these big weather events, planes do get scattered. Dallas only has one arrival and one departure a day from Houston on United Airlines. Flight Stats shows the 6 am departure from Dallas to Houston on Dec 6 to have been cancelled. Most domestic airlines, except American, got all their planes out of DFW on Dec 5 to avoid the ice.

With the exception of Hawaii and Alaska (and not for a while), Race does not schedule flights to the finale that connect through the US, mainly to keep sightings of the final three to a minimum. Second to last leg was in England not Paris. They flew from LHR direct to LV. Probably on Virgin, but there are plenty of other options.
