Sean Lowe Blogs: I Could Fall in Love with AshLee

Last week could not have gone better. My dates on The Bachelor with Sarah and Desiree were fantastic. I was hoping to make the same progress this week. I knew I had a fun one-on-one date planned first, but that it might also be very awkward if I didn't choose the right girl. That's why I decided to ask Lesley M. if she would join me on my Guinness Record date.

She was the perfect choice because I felt so comfortable around her from the beginning. Lesley broke the ice on the first night by having me bend over with the football, and I've enjoyed my time with her ever since. Women like Lesley are hard to find. She is not just sexy, smart and funny, but she's also really easy to be around. I felt like I had known Lesley for years and it had only been two weeks. That's why she was the one I wanted to set the record for world's longest on-screen kiss with her. The kiss actually really surprised me! I thought kissing for more than three minutes would be awkward and uncomfortable – especially since it took place on Hollywood Boulevard and in front of a crowd of people. But it wasn't. Time flew by and it was much more passionate than I thought it would be. I think that speaks to the chemistry we share.

We ended the date on the rooftop of the famous Roosevelt Hotel. My feelings for Lesley had definitely been growing throughout the date but they were solidified there. We had so much fun together. She had the ability to open up and speak from the heart and then also be really goofy. I loved that about her. One thing you didn't get to see on TV was at one point, we started feeding each other brownies and making all kinds of inappropriate remarks while doing so. We were laughing hysterically and were left with chocolate all over our faces. And of course the night ended with one of the most romantic kisses I've ever had. It doesn't get much better than kissing a beautiful woman on top of the Roosevelt while overlooking Hollywood as confetti guns are going off. It was a perfect ending to a perfect date.

The Group Date
The group date the next day was one of my favorite of the season. Before we started playing volleyball, we were throwing the football, playing in the ocean, catching the Frisbee and just enjoying the beautiful day. I was never the most outspoken guy on group dates with Emily, so I found it interesting to see who put themselves out there and who didn't. I remember Jackie pulled me aside to talk, which was nice because until that point she had been really quiet and reserved. She made me think there was more to her than the quiet girl I pegged her for.

Group dates always bring an element of awkwardness but I think the laid back atmosphere of the date took some of that away ... until Chris Harrison showed up. Of course I knew we couldn't just play in the sun all day, but I really wasn't prepared to lose half of the girls for the evening portion of the date. The volleyball game was intense and it became apparent pretty early on that both teams wanted to win. It brought me back to the sailing competition my team lost in Bermuda on Emily's season. Time is so precious at this stage of the game and it's a terrible feeling when you lose out on an opportunity for more time. So after a hard-fought battle, half of the women had to make the walk of shame back to the van. I was sad to see those six women leave, but I knew that it would allow for more quality time with the others.

The evening portion of the group date took place back at my bachelor pad. It's located just a couple of miles down the road from the Bachelor mansion and this is where I lived while we were in Los Angeles. I was happy to bring the girls back to my place because it was an intimate setting and I knew it would be the perfect place to have in-depth conversations. The woman who really stood out above the rest that evening was Lindsay. Until now, I viewed her as the fun girl who wore a wedding dress. Well, I think the wedding dress masked the depth that she possesses. When we sat down that night she told me how badly she wants to love and about how her parents have an amazing marriage and how she wants to find someone to share life with. I was blown away! And we ended with a very passionate kiss, which lingered in my mind for a long time after.
The Drama
I had no idea that there was any drama occurring between Amanda and Des, so I was surprised to hear Kacie bring it to my attention. If I seemed frustrated when talking to Kacie, it's because I was! I had a hard time understanding why Kacie decided to involve herself in this drama if she's not directly affected. After all, neither Amanda nor Des felt like they needed to say something, so why did Kacie? I just felt like if anyone in the house should grasp the big picture, it was Kacie – and yet she wasn't. At the end of the night, it only felt right to give the rose to Lindsay.

My final date of the week was a one-on-one date with AshLee. She grabbed my attention on the first night. She was the first out of the limo and she looked gorgeous. Not only that, after talking with her then I realized she had such a big heart. There was something different about her that really made me take notice and I knew I wanted to spend more time with her. AshLee was the perfect person to take on the Six Flags date because I saw her compassion early on, and I was hopeful she would share that compassion with Brianna and Emily, the two girls who both suffer from chronic illnesses. I'm involved with two pediatric cancer foundations back home in Dallas, 1 Million 4 Anna and Micaela's Army, and so the opportunity to share this date with young girls pulled at my heartstrings.

The Frontrunner?
The day with Ashlee and the girls at Six Flags was incredible! We had so much fun together and I took the most joy from watching how happy Emily and Brianna were. Their smiles made my heart melt and I was just happy to play a small part in their day. Both girls have a ton of energy and are even more passionate about amusement parks than I am, so we were all pretty exhausted after a long day. Emily and Brianna went back to their hotel, which allowed AshLee and me the time alone we needed to talk and really connect. She told me the story of her childhood and about the abuse she suffered as a child and the love her father gave her once she was adopted at age six. I don't usually cry, but hearing her describe the day she met her father and how he told her he would love her forever brought me to tears. It was then that I understood where AshLee's compassion comes from and I had a whole new appreciation for the person that she is. We finished the night dancing in front of one of my favorite bands, the Eli Young Band, and ended the evening with a very romantic kiss. AshLee quickly became a frontrunner and I knew if given time I could fall in love with her.

Each cocktail party I found myself more and more relaxed and just happy to be around such incredible ladies, but there was still an element of stress because as my relationships evolved, it became more awkward having all the women in the same house. I never wanted to disrespect any of the women by having them see my chemistry with another girl, so as much as I tried to be in the moment with each conversation. I was also tense wondering if another woman was going to come around the corner. One moment that was entirely stress free and made me so happy was getting to surprise Sarah with her beloved dog. I have two dogs back in Dallas that mean the world to me and that I miss so much, so I knew that Sarah must have been feeling the same way about hers. Seeing the look on her face when he jumped out of the car made my night. And I'd like to send a special thank you to whichever production assistant had to clean the dog poop out of the back of the car. I owe you one, buddy!

"Episode 1704" - A challenging week is ahead for the 13 remaining bachelorettes as Selma learns that what she thought was an opulent date will actually be a rock climbing adventure. Eight women join Sean for a rock'em sock'em roller derby match, which ends with a trip to the hospital. Leslie H. is the stunning bachelorette that Sean surprises with a Rodeo Drive shopping spree ˆ la "Pretty Woman," and an elegant romantic date that ends with the couple being treated to a VIP private concert from folk-rock-pop artist Ben Taylor. But the controversy continues to swirl around one disruptive woman even as the others try to deepen their connection with Sean, on "The Bachelor," MONDAY, JANUARY 28 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Selma is enthralled with her one-on-one date with Sean as the day begins with a limousine ride and a private jet. But then she discovers that the Bachelor has something entirely different on his mind. Their destination is the desert landscape of the Joshua Tree National Park in Twenty-nine Palms, California. Sean decides to put Selma to the test with a daring rock climbing escapade. Later the couple has dinner under the stars at a hipster-chic trailer park where the table is set for romance. But his beautiful date is having reservations about getting intimate with Sean. How will that affect her chances of capturing a rose?

A gritty warehouse is the location for a topsy-turvy roller derby with Sean and eight of the bachelorettes. Sarah faces another physical challenge that causes her to have emotional breakdown, but Sean proves to be supportive and helps her to try and overcome her fears. All of the women push themselves past their limits until one woman falls hard and is rushed to the hospital. At the after party that night, fireworks erupt as Robyn and Tierra clash, leading one of them to storm off, threaten to leave and then dissolve in tears. It's up to Sean again to comfort the distraught woman and to figure out if the tears are genuine or crocodile, meant to manipulate him into giving her a rose.

Leslie H. is the lucky recipient of the luxury date - complete with exquisite diamond earrings and a dream-come-true shopping excursion on famed Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Along with an elegant designer dress, Leslie H. is treated to the perfect accessory - a necklace worth $500,000. The "movie star" couple arrives at the majestic Bradbury Building where the scene is set for an elegant dinner. But there is one more surprise to end this very romantic date: a private concert by folk-pop-rock artist Ben Taylor. Will the date have a fairy tale ending complete with a rose?

Sean does his best to develop his connections with the women at the cocktail party, but all the while the drama is reaching a feverish level when it comes to one woman. The bachelorette tries to apologize to the other ladies, but will it work? Meanwhile, another gorgeous woman tries to keep Sean's mind on romance and away from the commotion. Is she going to be able to move from being friends to taking the next step in her relationship with Sean?

A tension-filled rose ceremony leaves 11 bachelorettes remaining to join Sean on a journey around the world to find love.

So, like many blogs before this one, I’m writing this at approximately thirty thousand feet. I give you this disclaimer because as I look back on my blogs I find that something about writing these at cruising altitude makes them decidedly different. Not sure if it’s the lack of oxygen getting to my brain or the fact that I always listen to music as I write that gives these high altitude blogs a little edge. Right now I’m feeling a little sentimental because Gloriana’s “Kiss You” is on, so let’s roll with that.

Selma, who we really haven’t gotten to see that much of yet, got the first date. Emotions are running incredibly high this season, honestly a little higher than usual. Because of this, who gets dates really impacts the dynamic in the house. The date with Selma started out super sexy but then turned incredibly rugged. I credit Selma for delivering the money line of the season so far when she said Sean “took the Iraqi to the desert.” Selma, who’s apparently not the outdoorsy type, started out a little rough, and in her words, puffy, but boy did she rally. Joshua Tree National park was an incredible backdrop for this date, and Sean was truly impressed with how Selma dove right in and got dirty with him. It’s important that these girls can show him how they can step out of their comfort zones and embrace what life has to offer beyond six-inch heels. 

There was a lot of sexual chemistry between the Selma and Sean and as a result, she had to explain that due to her beliefs and her background she couldn’t kiss him. This brings up an incredibly interesting social discussion. Selma wanted to kiss Sean and she really doesn’t necessarily seem to believe that dating out loud is wrong, nor is kissing. But she felt compelled, out of respect for her parents and their beliefs, to refrain from kissing Sean. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Is living like this going to be something that Selma ultimately regrets? Only the individual can make that judgment calls for herself, and this is the path Selma’s chosen for right now. Sean, to his credit, very much respected her decision and completely understood. Ironically it probably only made her more attractive, but at some point, will that change? Like his other dates, Selma really seems like she could be the one for Sean, but then again, that’s how almost every date feels with this guy.

The group date was interesting, to say the least. I put the roller derby idea right up there with the Muay Thai boxing date during Ashley’s season in Chiang Mai. Sure, it seems like a good idea, but once you realize everyone’s just getting hurt, it becomes less sexy. One good thing about these dates is you get to really see what people are made of and how they handle stressful situations. You also get to see how tough their jaws are. Everybody took some big spills but Amanda really came crashing down. Fortunately her jaw broke her fall. She was banged up pretty good and had to go make sure she didn’t actually fracture her jaw. Luckily she returned later in the date, but sadly, she’ll never play the harmonica the same again.

One thing that no one expected was how hard skating would be for Sarah. Everyone, especially Sean, was really sensitive to her and wanted to make sure she didn’t feel excluded for any reason, but also felt comfortable with the activity. It was nice to see her get so much support from the other girls and Sarah once again proved herself to be a very, very strong woman.

Sean quickly took the temperature in the room and realized at this point it was best to cut his losses and restructure this date. He did so by cranking up a little power ballad and turned the whole thing into one big couples skate. Well played, my friend. There’s no problem that can’t be solved by good baby-making music and a couples skate. As the date progressed to the evening cocktail party, things got a little intense. I’m not sure how Sean and Lindsay didn’t freak out when they walked out of that door to find Tierra crouched in the dark corner like a scary hobo goblin ready to pounce on them. I’m not really sure there is such a thing as a hobo goblin but again you gotta give me some leeway here. I’m not getting a lot of oxygen and I’m now listening to some Miike Snow, so this could get weird… or weirder. Now, this move by Tierra could’ve gone one of two ways. Sean could’ve been annoyed and sent her packing, or do what he did and talk her off the cliff. Whether this was the right thing for him to do is debatable. Whether or not he got played is not debatable. Bottom line, Sean likes this girl and we all know that when we like someone we see past a lot and we tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. I imagine there will be much talk surrounding Tierra this week by all of you.

Okay, now musically mellowing things out — Citizen Cope “Sideways” just came on (one of my favorite songs), much better.

As much as Selma’s date turned out not to be a Pretty Woman date, Leslie H.’s was all that and then some. If you didn’t catch it they actually pulled up in front of the Regency Beverly Wilshire hotel, or as Kit says in the movie, “Reg Bev Wil,” where Pretty Woman was shot. Leslie delivered the second best line of this episode when she said she felt like she was really just “a tan Julia Roberts.” It was really cute how uncomfortable and nervous Leslie was with all of this. You could tell she truly appreciated it.

Perfect timing for Bob Marley “Is This Love” to come on my headphones, because that was the big question on Sean’s mind this entire date. He probably summed it up best when he said somebody can look perfect on paper but when it’s not there there’s just no way to fix that. They had incredible conversations and got along so well but that spark has to be there and it just wasn’t. As Mr. Marley just sang to me “I wanna love ya, every day and every night.” That just wasn’t happening here.

This season overall is different than any other I’ve ever been a part of, and that’s because of Sean. He has such an amazing way of making each woman feel like she’s the only one in his life and that is making things increasingly difficult. The other interesting thing about Sean is he has very different relationships with each woman. They all seem to bring out different sides in him. This is going to continue in the weeks to come and if you think emotions are running high now, well, just wait until next week.

If you take anything from this blog this week I hope it’s not the fact that when you combine an eclectic music mix and lack of oxygen I get a little loose. I hope it’s that we have a huge, special two-day Bachelor event next week! Next Monday and Tuesday we will air all new back-to-back episodes. We’ve never done this before but we think these two episodes are so good and so explosive a special two-night extravaganza was in order. So stock up on the boxed wine and let’s do this. "Episode 1705" - A two-night Bachelor special event begins with Sean whisking the remaining 11 bachelorettes away to picturesque Whitefish, Montana, to explore his romantic connections. But the outspoken Tierra and sweet natured Jackie face off in the dramatic two-on-one date, and one of them will be sent home immediately. The Bachelor attempts to escalate his relationship with Lindsay to new heights when the couple takes an astounding helicopter ride over the gorgeous mountains of Montana's Glacier National Park. Eight women get to compete in a Montana relay race, including milking goats, with the winning team getting to spend more time with Sean. And one controversial bachelorette continues to cause a firestorm in the house, leaving Sean to worry if he will ever find his wife here, on "The Bachelor," MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. The second part of "The Bachelor" special event, Episode "1706," will air on a special night and time, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET).

Sean and Lindsay take in the spectacular scenery at Glacier National Park, and Lindsay's heart soars during a romantic dinner. Is this the same playful woman who arrived in a wedding dress a few weeks ago? She finally opens up to Sean about the difficulties growing up as an Army brat. As the romance heats up, Sean surprises her with a special concert by Country star Sarah Darling on the streets of downtown Whitefish -- but will Lindsay get a rose?

Eight of the bachelorettes discover canoes, hay, a wood chopping station and goats at a local lake - uh-oh! They are once again split into two teams for a Montana relay race. The final part of the challenge will be milking a goat and chugging its milk! The winning team will be rewarded with extra time with Sean that night, while the losing team will head back to the hotel. One team finally squeaks by to win. But Sean makes a surprising decision when it comes to the losing team that is bound to upset the winners. And to make things more interesting, Tierra, upset that she will be on the two-on-one date, shows up at the after party. Will her secret rendezvous hurt or help her get the rose the next night?

It's a blistering competition between Tierra and Jackie during the two-on-one date. Sean takes both women on a horseback ride through the Montana outback, only to have the normally charming Jackie take the Bachelor aside and stab Tierra in the back. Will he listen to her? Tierra, in an attempt to save herself, reveals a shocking detail about her personal life. Meanwhile, Sean is left to sort out his feelings and make a very difficult choice which leaves one bachelorette in tears.

The final cocktail party is a boiling cauldron of outrage. It's one woman against the rest of the bachelorettes. Frustrated by all the drama, Sean tries to get to the bottom of the situation, but just feels more confused than ever. He confides in Chris Harrison that he's beginning to doubt he will ever find his soul mate among these women. At the rose ceremony, everyone is stunned by whom Sean chooses to send home. Nine women will join him as they set off for their next destination, the Colorado Rockies.

The Bachelor's Sean Lowe Blogs: Why I Sent Home Leslie

They say opposites attract. That certainly holds true on The Bachelor when thinking about Selma. From the first night I couldn't keep my eyes off of the 5' 1" dark-haired, olive-skinned, Iraqi beauty. Selma was incredibly beautiful, smart and fun, too!

I was waiting for the perfect date for Selma, and rock climbing could not have been better because she told me she often gets judged as a prissy girl. This was my chance to see if she could rough it for a day.

From the moment I picked Selma up, everything seemed so natural. It amazed me how comfortable I was with her. And on the flight to Joshua Tree, she fell asleep with her head on my chest, which led me to believe she was just as comfortable.

The date itself was incredible. Joshua Tree was such a beautiful place and I was happy to be sharing the experience with Selma.

I had my doubts as to whether she could handle the rock climbing, but she proved she can rough it. She climbed the rock faster than I did! And I think she really had a fun time doing it. At the top we got to watch a beautiful sunset together as our reward. We had so much fun but I was looking forward to what I had in store for her next.

The trailer park was so cool. I'm not sure TV does it justice. Between the retro trailers, lights, AstroTurf and the starry night, it was one of the most romantic places I visited all season. My time with Selma that night was so great. She opened up about past relationships, what she wants out of life and what she wants in a man. Then she dropped the no-kissing bomb on me.

It surprised me because she is so affectionate. After hearing about her mom's beliefs, I completely understood. She was in a tough spot and wanted to kiss me but she had too much respect for her mom. The no-kissing thing made our relationship more exciting because I had something to look forward to. Plus, Selma's heart and personality were more than enough. Selma left with a rose and with a piece of my heart. Once again, I was starting to fall for another woman.
On a Roll
The group date started out as a fun idea. I wanted to see who would compete and embrace the physicality of roller derby. But as soon as the girls put on their skates, I knew it was not the most practical date.

Asking the women to skate on an embanked track while hitting each other seemed like a bit much. They were all having a tough time during practice, and then I really had doubts after Amanda fell and busted her chin. That's when I decided to do an old-school free skate instead. Besides, I was there to spend time with the women and not to watch them kill each other.

The rest of the afternoon was a blast. But I was glad to be off skates and on top of the downtown Roosevelt Lofts for the evening part of the date. I remember having such a nice night before running into Tierra. I knew she was having a tough time with the other women and needed more reassurance than anyone else.

What I didn't know was how much the other women disliked her. For the most part, Tierra was all smiles around me so I didn't know she was showing the women another side. When I found her crying on the steps, I knew she doubted whether or not she should be there.

I don't know what it was about Tierra, but I definitely felt a connection with her that goes back to the first night and I didn't like seeing her upset. Once again, I did my best to reassure her of my feelings.

I'll admit my decision to give her the rose was a symbolic Band-Aid. I wanted Tierra to be happy and I wanted to fix whatever was wrong with her. Isn't that what boyfriends are supposed to do? It was obviously a rash decision that was not received well by the other women. But please keep in mind I had not seen the Tierra they had.

Spark or Sparkle?
You usually know if a spark exists with someone within seconds of meeting that person. In rare cases, a spark can develop into a relationship. I was hoping that would happen with Leslie H. on the Pretty Woman date. She was so friendly, kind and down-to-earth. I think she said, "Holy moly" at least a dozen times because of the extravagance of the date and she was grateful to be on it with me.

I really enjoyed my day and had fun shopping with her. The conversation was effortless and she made me laugh a lot, but I never found the spark I was looking for. Sending her home was one of the more difficult things I had to do all season because I knew she didn't see it coming. I admired and respected Leslie for so many reasons, but I knew she wasn't the one for me.

The cocktail party was eventful to say the least! There was more drama with Tierra and the girls, which I did not know about at the time, and a big turning point for Catherine and me. She always stood out in my mind as someone very unique and different. She tapped into my inner nerd, which I loved, but I was afraid that she was putting me in the "friend zone" because every time I tried to show her affection, it didn't feel like she would reciprocate. And yes, that's right everyone – I'm a nerd. Deal with it.
Aggressive Friend Zone
Anyway, I was surprised when Catherine gave me the card with a kiss of lipstick on it. I'd call that "aggressive friend zone." She told me she wanted to kiss me but couldn't while the other girls were in sight. She was so nervous that she buried her head in my chest and wouldn't look up. After a few seconds I told her, "It's okay to look up," and then we had our first kiss.

What you didn't see was her excitement after. She was giddy and suggested that we frolic – definitely the first time I received that request, so I obliged. We skipped around the driveway ... and then played Dungeons and Dragons (not really).

At the rose ceremony I was left with another tough decision but one I was confident in making. I sent Amanda home because I just didn't feel a lasting connection with her. Until the show aired, I had no idea that she was a source of drama in the house. Amanda was always very sweet around me and I wish her all the best in the future.
