TARaus2 Episode 1 LIVE show Discussion!!
starrynight:
Well from what we were shown most of the other teams didn't say they were thinking of giving up, though those who had to go back and do it again may have. Taking a penalty in anticipation of others not being able to do it might even have worked had there not been some local help around.
Taxi drivers in these poorer countries will probably take whatever they can get, even if it's through misunderstanding. There have certainly certainly been some bad taxi drivers in the American version. It must be a tricky situation for a racer to be in sometimes, you want to settle with the taxi driver (probably still have to in the rules) but you don't want to be exploited by them either as it could hurt you in the race. Certainly it pays to play it smarter than they were in revealing that they were about to pay that much. As I think someone in a previous race said, don't show how much money you have.

A very good advice.

damn! I couldn't find a torrent on the 1st episode of TARAus 2 to watch it. Maybe there's an Australian law that forbids illegal distribution of "licensed" TV shows through bittorrent? :gaah:

Someone from the Philippines on You Tube mentioned that the yellow 'airport taxi's' are much more expensive than the 'regular' white ones, i.e. they overcharge in general. Still clearly the Sticky team paid way too much even if the yellow taxi's tend to overcharge, whether that was due to misunderstanding or not, I think. :) You're right, taxi's overcharge and rip off tourists especially worldwide. I think I can somewhat understand it in these situations, even if it's still wrong obviously.
On the other hand it was clearly quite naive of Sticky & friend to just wave the money in his face in a way. I mean it's like being in your own country and taking a taxi in an unknown place or city, waving your wallet in front of the taxidriver's nose and then say: ok take as much as you need. Sure that person doesn't need to abuse your trust but on the other hand, there is such a thing as 'common sense' too.
Either way, I hope they have learned from this mistake and go about things in a smarter way from now on - eg asking a ballpark price or negotiating the price in advance, or at the very least not jumping to conclusions and waving money in someone's face.
Even if they made it to the next leg it could still hurt them because financially they don't have any cushion. Hopefully their starter money stretches far enough for them not to have more problems like this. :)
