JOSEPH & GRACE, Sydney siblings

JOSEPH, 22, is a banking analyst who takes a pragmatic approach to life, whereas student Grace, 21 likes to be less rigid with her decision making.

“With Grace, it’s like throwing a tennis ball at a wall – you’re not sure exactly which way it’s going to bounce off. She’s pretty erratic,” Joseph said.

“I’m the driver and decision maker and she’s the information feeder, slash secretary,” Joseph said.

“I pay attention to details and he’s probably a bit ignorant in that area,” Grace said.

Sydney siblings Joseph and Grace still live together under the same roof, but these days they rarely spend much time together.

“She has her friends and I have my friends,” says 22-year-old Joseph.

“Joey is embarrassed by me,” insists Grace, 21. “He doesn’t want me to talk to his friends because he thinks I might say something to embarrass him.”

Joseph adds, “With Grace it’s like throwing a tennis ball at a wall – you’re never sure exactly which way it’s going to bounce off. She’s pretty erratic.”

Growing up in a single-parent household Joseph assumed the “man-of-the-house” role – much to Grace’s annoyance.

“He’s a Mister Know-it-all,” says Grace.

Banking analyst Joseph has a very pragmatic approach to life, whereas student Grace likes to be a little less rigid with her decision-making.

“We need to meet half way because I’ll be like just go with the flow and he’ll want to analyse everything,”says Grace.

“My strengths are I can concentrate pretty well,” says Joseph. “I’m clear-headed and obviously look into the future, not just what’s happening now. That comes with my work.”

But what they do share is a passion for travelling the globe and both list a recent family holiday to their mother’s birth country of Lebanon as the ultimate adventure.

“When we were in Lebanon we stayed in the villages up north,” explains Grace. “Every time we went down to the city it was just the two of us and we had to catch the bus with no windows, it was hot, the driver was smoking his lungs out. So maybe we’ve put our toe into the water with that trip.”

Expecting some potential tension between them when it comes to making decisions, Joseph says he’ll be taking control.

“I’m the driver and decision maker and she’s the information feeder slash secretary,” says Joseph.

“I pay attention to details and he’s probably a bit ignorant in that area,” says Grace. “But maybe he’s right. Sometimes I do talk too much and I need to learn to shut my mouth and let him make the decisions.”
