I think the producers have got it wrong here, and it never used to be like that.

They started doing that in Season 14, and I think it's pretty much anonymous unanimous from viewers that "eat, sleep, and mingle" is much better.

I believe they still allow the teams to "eat, sleep, and mingle" on rare occasions (like the first Pit Stop in Tanzania this season, when teams had to set up their own camp), but for the most part, it has been eliminated.

I'm sure there was -- that was when Art & JJ got suspicious of Nary & Jamie not actually being teachers -- but that wasn't a Pit Stop. I think Dave was explicitly referring to Pit Stops.
