I'm not too surprised of a double elimination, in fact I was expecting one like this sooner. I don't understand why anyone would be upset by a non-elimination followed by a double elimination. Wouldn't it pretty much be the same thing as an elimination on the first and second leg?

There was one on season 10.

I meant at the same pit stop. But thinking of season 10, I'm a little surprised that there aren't twelve teams. I don't think there will be four non-elimination legs, so maybe a TBC/double length leg?

A Double Elimination is not exciting. Think about the "suspense" of having three people vie for one last spot (and if one or two of the teams are behind, :lol:) :lol:

It is beginning to look as though a second leg outside of Yogyakarta MIGHT be possible...which would mean a chance for Borobudur!!! :hearts:

What about the beach thing? I thought that would indicate another country. Or maybe Bali.

Nothing to prevent a beach leg after...

Just speculating!

Funny to do a U Turn so soon though. At this point many racers  may not even have met each other really... makes the UTurn a difficult choice.

Amanda and Kris were U-turned in the first five minutes of the race last season, and it don't get sooner than that!

Maybe just as the Express Pass is now becoming a regular race twist, so too might the automatic u-turn penalty...?

That was not a Uturn by a team so what she is saying doesn't really apply.

There are beaches in Yogyakarta too, so they might show up later in this leg.

I'm also speculating. I'm surprised that the production staff or crew would talk about what might be coming up to the public or where teams could hear it, so I'm a bit skeptical. I hope it's true. Perhaps I didn't fully understand what was overheard or who it was said to.

Production staff talking about future legs to outsiders has happened before. I recall we had that spoiler during TAR 16 in Bariloche where the local newspaper reported in Spanish the fact that the Race was headed to Germany.

Since it's all safe, can the mods release and unlock the Taiwan spoilers thread that was made up before? :hearts:

Strange how we've heard virtually nothing between the hours of operation holdup and only the last few minutes (midday their time).. Is it a long distance to travel between the hotel and Malioboro?

I went and took a look at Wiki's article on Malioboro, and I have a feeling this would be a great place for some sort of task involving businesses or products along the street. This is total speculation on my part, but being a major commercial thoroughfare it would be reasonable. I'm also intrigued by the reference to the street being the dividing line between the train station and the volcano....

Just out of curiosity, was there a 24hr pitstop in Taiwan; or did teams did an overnight departure task and continued the first leg on the 20th?   :duno:

So if the race began on Saturday the 18th and they left Taiwan on the 21st, was there an overnight stay somewhere in Taiwan on the 19th?

You are on the right track. Malioboro is actually a long street full of stores. I also imagine them selling something, maybe an art item or finding something mentioned in the clue as a detour.

As for the beaches, the other choice than Bali, would be Bunaken beach in Manado (North Sulawesi). The beach is as popular as Bali with many tourists heading there.

If they're going to Manado, then it's going to be the most surprising destination they're going to, because I was born in there.  :-[

I will be happy to help you when they're going to Manado!  :)

So it sounds like the first detour of the race occurred within Malioboro, one side of which had to do with valeting cars in a nearby mall car park. Seems like we may have lost them for now though..

Leg 1 - California -> Taiwan
Leg 2 - Taiwan -> Jakarta
Leg 3 - Jakarta -> Makioboro

my guess is maybe 5 or 6 new countries? maybe? right?
I really wish we could stay longer in the countries we visit, but I've been lucky to have visited most of them before, because I've done a tremendous amount of travel. - Phil Keoghan

Actually I think we are still on Leg 2. The only thing teams had to do in Jakarta was catch a train to Yogyakarta. They left yesterday and were held up for half a day by the long journey and hours of operation.
