Why are they allowed to go to the Pitstop without completing the Detour?? That is a huge penalty!

Mel and Mike didn't complete the Detour for sure... it wasn't shown. It sucks that they got eliminated by a luck detour.. but it isn't really that hard.. they just didn't keep searching. :(
I'm okay with them getting eliminated by their own efforts, not by luck based detour.
