I haven't read this whole thread, so not sure if that is part of the detour, but if it is (and judging by checkin times) it would seem to me that Gary/Mallory and Jaime/Kara are the teams who get u-turned, with Gallory using express pass to nullify it. This would explain why they check in so much after the next closest team, while the rest are fairly bunched.

Ironic if JaCa are able to almost catch up after a UTURN only to be defeated by a puzzle....their pic there is about 45 minutes behind the Cowboys.

Well, as one can see, everyone else is further along than the Redheads on their puzzles. Justin, Kent, and Christina had theirs completely assembled except for one tiny piece. Also, based on the Redheads' completely stressed attitudes, something bad definitely happened to them.

Instead of saying Kent and Christina had theirs completely assembled, i think the more accurate way to say it is that they finally figured out what is wrong with their model, as we do see them disassembling their model completely apart to correct that one piece.
Cara and Jaime probably made the same mistake and didn't figure it out.. so they fell too far behind.

Include Zev and Justin on the list. They are there too.
