The "costumed person beside Phil" is only a "greeter" when they are actively greeting the teams. At other times, as when they are doing standups etc with Phil they are "posers" or "ancillary costumed talent". B:)

I agree with WP. Semantically, that person is only a greeter while greeting, and in that case is always shown on Phil's right side (In this episode. Thanks, Joab, for pointing that out).

Actually, for the first two episodes this season (in fact last leg too?) i think, the greeter has been on Phil's left side.

They probably decide which side of Phil the greeter stands, by the particular background they want in the angle shot. In Sydney, it was the long stretch of beach, in Broken Hill it was the mine apparatus.
