He was told that the word starts with an "F" there are four letters remaining right, another 4 possible combinations and there are like 16 words possible.
It would have taken 20 minutes to figure out.

Should he have been able to solve the task? Most definitely.
Does that make him a complete idiot? Doubt it, I still believe he psyched himself out.

Actually, more people would want to join the race just because they want to overcome their fear! And if you have the fear, why will it barricade you from joining? The race is not all swimming! It doesn't make sense.
And you've got to remember that they are on olympic-size swimming pool. This is just an educated guess: I think you can't walk on it because it's deep. I don't know in the case of the tall Jen, but I really think it's hard.
You really can't gauge a team's placement if you would place it to other seasons! Who knows, maybe Steve and Linda might have won S15 if they were there (as much as I think it's impossible, well, haha). :lol:

I'm reasonably certain that they would not be able to stand up in an olympic pool.
At 6 foot 4 and (roughly) the same height as the two, I cannot stand up in a full size olympic pool.
