Welcome back Cocoa.

We have 11 teams and there will be 8 eliminations and the final. There are usually 3 NEL which makes 12 episodes. A TBC counts as an NEL as far as I know so the first episode would count as an NEL. There will then be remaining the final, 8 eliminations, and 2 more NEL's. I see that as being 12 total episodes.
The only way to make 13 is another NEL, have there ever been 4 ?

Pretty much every race pre-TAR 11 has had 4 NELs. It looks likely that there may be a 13th leg thrown in here (I count TBCs as 2 for consistency); I mean, why else would the producers film a 24-day race?

That's b/c they stopped doing TBC's as much. (TAR6 thru TAR10 all had TBC's) Still, there are always 12 episodes.

Just remember that with a TBC, there can be more episodes than legs.

Thus, if I'm reading Peach right, it's 13 episodes, 12 legs.

There is no certainty yet that the CMA thing is going to pre-empt TAR this spring. After all they used to have the Victoria's Secret thingy pre-empting TAR, and they they moved both TAR and that to different nights.

As to Sundays in May, there are five Sundays in 2011, right? The last Sunday is Memorial Day weekend, so May ratings sweep period will end before then. CBS will be wanting to give TAR, Undercover Boss and Survivor separate finale Sundays, if possible. Depending on whether CBS has a special that they plan to air on the 22nd, the TAR finale would be either the 8th or the 15th. The NCAA tournament format is changing this year (2011) and I believe the deal with CBS has been modified because the early rounds of the NCAA tournament will be working a little differently.
The only way at the moment to get a better guess is to pin down the number of episodes (I agree that given the format since TAR 14 it's 12 legs) we just have to see whether the TBC leg boosts the episode order up to 13.
Given how CBS promoted the heck out of Survivor's HD switch, I would think they're going to be using both the format ("Unfinished Business") and the conversion to HD for promotion the entire season.  And I'm betting we'll be seeing some glorious looking locales in every episode.

12 legs/episodes. TWELVE.

Not 13. Not 11. TWELVE.
