Who Do You Think Will Win TAR 17?

<< < (21/38) > >>

Ruth:
Yep, I agree on the part that the team with the best racing skills should win, not because they're female. But for this season, we can't deny that Nat and Kat and Brook and Claire are competent teams that deserve the win.

The one thing Nat and Kat have that many racers don't is their ability to stay calm during stress levels. Look at their performance in Ghana. Despite nearly being eliminated, they did not let that get to their heads and start freaking out and yelling at each other. Instead, they did what they had to, stayed positive, and finished the leg. We all know that panic does no good for the racers, neither does rushing through. Nat and Kat are always meticulous and cool, that's why they don't make mistakes. Also, Nat overcoming her fear of heights and Kat eating the meat at the FF despite being a vegetarian for 22 years speaks volume of their determination to win. They're smart to boot. During the previous Detour where almost every team was struggling, they did it systematically, showing that sometimes you might not have special talents (in this case musical), but you can use your brains. Of course, they're encouraging towards one another as well (have we ever seen them get frustrated with each other?).

As for Brook and Claire, from the very first episode where Claire got hit by the watermelon during the Roadblock and was in pain yet she persevered and their team still did so well in the end... I've been truly impressed by this team. They're competitive, fast, and never give up. (Recall Claire doing the bridge Detour in Norway in leg 5). Yes, they did make mistakes in mis-reading the clue which should not be condoned. But the fact that they realised their mistake, rectified it, caught up to the teams and still finish in second place, that was a feat in itself and I give them loads of credit for that.

Of course, I'm not saying that Jill and Thomas aren't deserving. I believe that they're a very strong and competitive team as well. Look at how fast they are, always coming from the back and still finishing well. But in terms of team dynamics, I don't think they have it. Thomas is always the one making decisions. He feels that he's the brains behind the team (from his constant mention about him having gone to a good college). This is a team race, not an individual race. And... They just bicker too much! Had they kept their attitudes in the first leg, I'd have loved them and wouldn't mind them winning as well.

Indeed, the team with great racing skills should win. And I believe that all three teams have them. But on racing skills being equal ground, things like personality and chemistry come into play. Nat and Kat might be boring but they're always nice to each other, and other teams. Brook and Claire might bicker a little sometimes, but they bring so much positive energy to the race. Jill and Thomas, if they're not bickering, they just fade away. So in comparison, I'd still want Nat and Kat or Brook and Claire to take it all.

As for wanting an all-female team to win, that is just a bonus, since we've never had that before. You know, if Connor and Jonathan had made it to the final three, I'd have rooted for them as well.

That's my take!

--- Quote from: mswood on November 10, 2010, 11:15:51 PM ---Personally I would love to find out that Jill & Thomas won.  That they were actually on that flight (or an earlier one though that is highly doubtful with the type of planning done on the last half dozen final legs).

I have no problem with any of the final three teams winning as all have had strong legs, all have had poor legs, and all seem to be actually racing...through this season.

But I have never really wanted a female team to win if their was a feeling like casting was trying to help enable it, by either casting softer competition, or by casting more.  Just like season four seemed to just hand over the race to one of the many male teams cast.

As for casting soft the productions type of male casting has changed dramatically over the years, even going so far in all stars as not considering them for spots (I still get upset about that).  Seasons 11, 12, 13, and 14 featured no fit athletic young male teams.  Though with season 15 you had Sam and Dan and while Flight Time is over 30 they certainly were physically strong so lets count them as well and 16 had Jet & Cord (again I think one was in their 30's or 30) but they were physically fit so I would count them.  And of course 17 back to no fit young athletic male teams.

Of course with the race a good chuck is luck and teams that on paper should do well can do terrible.

I would rather have just seen a female team win against strong male teams, as well as fit young couple teams.  Thats probably my only real complaint.

Your little complaint could be reversed to say that a FF team has never had a chance before because of all the athletic MM teams.

I'm biased and i don't care. I just want an all-female team to win. And it's not about alpha male teams or what. The last time we had all-female teams in the final 3, (TAR 14 and Allstars except TAR 10).. they all lost against a co-ed team. In fact in all-stars, both Charla and Mirna and BQs lost against Eric and Danielle, who're weaker than them.

And no to Jill and Thomas winning. It will kill my TAR appetite, i'm serious.

Won't entirely kill my TAR appetite, but it will spoil the whole season for me.

I'm about more where you are, Belle Book, than Joab.  Wouldn't make me give up the show, but it'd be a very sour ending to what's turning out to be an otherwise great season so far.

I remembered BJ and Tyler winning and killed my appetite for TAR 10. Then TAR 10 was too awesome and my TAR appetite came back. Nothing can make me lose interest in TAR, unless the show gets cancelled or what.

Or maybe a BJ and Tyler-like team wins 10 seasons in a row. Which will NOT HAPPEN. :hearts:

Who do I think will win?  Nat and Kat

Who do I want to win? I don't care, all the final three teams would deserve it and I would be happy if any of them won.

But I don't only watch this show to see who wins. The winner has basically no effect on whether I think a season was any good. I judge it on the locations, the tasks, the planning of speedbumps, u-turns and fast forwards and the relationship/balance of teams. The winner is only revealed during the last 10-20 mins of the finale. Does that really determine whether you liked a season or not? I feel that while a winner does somewhat affect the vibe and feel of a season, I feel it is only minimal and it does not solely determine whether the season was a flop or a success.

I hope I didn't offend any of you guys, I'm just posting my opinion.

I agree, I am mostly interested in the tasks and the fun of analyzing the race. Letting a disliked winner spoil the entire fun of the season is silly.
