Ryan Seacrest Dishes On New ‘American Idol’ Judges
January 6, 2011

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Simon Cowell is gone, but mean critiques from the “American Idol” judges’ table will continue thanks to Jennifer Lopez!

“Jennifer [is the mean one],” “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest told Access Hollywood at the 2011 E! TCA party on Tuesday. “She expects a lot… she’s tough, but she gives tough love.”

J.Lo might be the stern judge, but according to Ryan, Steven Tyler is the sensitive one who will be shedding some tears.

“Steven is probably our most emotional judge. We will probably see tears from Steven as well as laughs and he’s a prankster too, but they got along very well on the road,” Ryan continued.

In addition to “Idol,” Ryan is busy at work producing and slew of shows for E! and in the future is hoping to possibly launch is own network, like Oprah’s OWN.

“The idea is to try and come up with as many different shows as possible so that there would be an opportunity to have a network… that would be wonderful,” Ryan, whose credits include “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated,” explained.

Cocoa:
It's surprising that J.Lo is the harsh one on the block! Or maybe I'm stereotyping.

TexasLady:
No, I don't think it's stereotyping, she might be tougher, good cop, bad cop for the singers.  ;)

TexasLady:
Or maybe good cop, good cop!

Less nasty, more nice in revamped "American Idol"

LOS ANGELES | Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:20pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "American Idol" returns to television next week not only with two new celebrity judges, but a whole new attitude -- less of the cutting put-downs and more support and coaching for aspiring new pop stars, producers said on Tuesday.

The exit of caustic British judge Simon Cowell, and the addition of singer Jennifer Lopez and rock star Steven Tyler has shaken up the dynamics of the top-rated TV singing contest, and placed the emphasis squarely on encouraging original talent, they said.

Gone are the old "nasty and nice" roles once seen from judges, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TV journalists.
