Batu Caves are a series of limestone caves, the limestone forming the caves is estimated to be 400 million years old.
--- Quote ---The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

Outside the caves stands a 140 foot tall statue of Murugan, the worlds tallest, which cost 24 million Rupees.
The caves serve as the site for the annual Thaipusam festival, held around January/February. In 2007, the festival attracted 1.5 million people, making it one of the largest gatherings in history.
